Becky, my name is Rich. WOW !! I did not expect that nice comment. Thank you so much. I am glad I was able to help you. I did not expect I would almost bring tears to your eyes. I have learned a lot from you over the years. I love to help others. I am changing a few things too. One important thing I learned about teaching others is. The teacher is always a student, and the student is always a teacher. If I can help you out with anything, I am just a phone call, text message & email away. You have been an inspiration to me also. I am still learning too. Happy New Year, I am sure you will be surpass your selling goals this year, especially with your own website. I am a safety & security professional, If you need any advice on that too, please reach out.

@@beckyparkco Becky you are very welcome. You have been a brighter light in this community. When I had my doubts in the past, you usually had a video similar to my situations in reselling. You kept me motivated and encouraged, helping me understand that other resellers face similar feelings and doubts at times. It would be nice to meet in person and have a chat. Perhaps we can do a video chat one day soon.

Ohhh Becky how about a tutorial series on how to get a Shopify store...from set up to listing to shipping. I think a lot of us are headed in the Shopify direction because of all the games with fees, algorhyth changes, etc. This would be so helpful and definitely have us waiting on baited breath for each new episode. I remember to THIS DAY New York Thrifters series on starting an eBay store with $20 was the most life changing series that got me INTO reselling.

I started selling on ebay in 2001 and made a ton of money selling luxury brands such as Gucci. Back then it was easier to get the items and ebay was not as crazy. I made enough while holding down a full time job to buy a house. I stopped in 2005 because life took over with three small boys. Fast forward to 2020 and taking an early retirement from my finance job, I have time on my hands and got back into reselling. This time I did not want to tap into my savings and wanted to build a two story office she-shed in my back yard. My goal was to make the money through selling on ebay and poshmark. I put the same principals I always used in other other aspects of my life, which are super organization. I became so organized and focused that I was able to list 20-50 items each day and non-stop. I am an early riser and start my day at 5 am. I put in 8 hours each day with breaks and structure it in a way where everything gets done and I still have time for myself. I sell clothing and I do not waste time and gas money hitting up the local thrift stores. They are fine if I happen to be in the area but to spend hours thrifting and coming up with a few items is not spending my time wisely. I order on-line and am super fast at getting everything listed. I average $10 in profits on each item sold. I hire my teenage son and pay him a salary which he then puts into a Roth IRA. I sell an average 20 items a day. Yes some items I make a $4 profit, but I average it all out. The key is to have a system that works and being extremely efficient. I sell brands that others would turn their nose up to and would deem them not worth their time. I made $90,000 in profits last year after COG, taxes and fees. I am now ready to build by two story she-shed. The point is, anyone can do it and the number one factor is organization. Spend your time wisely. If you have children, you can hire them and pay them, even at a young age of 8 years old. There is always something they can do with your re-selling business. You will claim their salary as a business expense and then set up a custodial Roth IRA and put their earningsin a retirement account. This is all legal. I worked in finance for over 30 years.

I don’t comment on videos. But this one made me tear up. Everything you are saying hits home for me! We have really similar tastes in the pieces that “speak” to us (yet wouldn’t necessarily wear). I started to create my own website a couple of months ago to sell vintage &/or creative pieces but talked myself out of it and scrapped the whole thing. After watching this I think I’m going to give it another go. 2022 was the worst sales year that I’ve had since I began reselling 5 years ago & it’s my fault. I spent so much time thinking that reselling is not a real job & I need to get an “adult” job. But I just cannot let go because I NEED the creative outlet & the freedom is just too good! So I’m determined to have my best year ever. Love your videos & how real you are! ❤ Good luck with your new website - I can’t wait to check it out!

My goal is to be deathpile free by the end of this year!! I just moved and tired of seeing so much unorganized stuff in my garage. In Dec I started to put systems In place that will helps me streamline my full first yr (2023) of being a full time reseller on posh mercari n ebay. I keeps telling myself I will not let being overwhelmed gets the best of me n run to get a job this year. I will makes this business works by cleaning my mess…I bought 30 stackable plastic bins locally and full them with unlisted clothes for the month. I plan to have listing goes up daily, I set up a designated photo setup area, in a process to Chris inventory system. I want to be free from deathpile so bad without liquidating my good items that I called my “mortgage” money lol. I had to step away from lives shows to not be sourcing much. There will be many no buys days and I’m ok with that…sourcing can be very addicted but I wants to achieve this more..
Good luck to everyone with their goals and let’s make 2023 counts.

Great video, Becky! I started reselling part-time in February of 2022 and I have learned so much from content creators like yourself. I appreciate all the time and effort y'all put into sharing your wisdom and struggles. I have only been selling on Poshmark, but I am expanding to DePop and Mercari this year. I would like to see my sales increase to 100 or more per month (December was abysmal). I have had a few days off from my full-time job for the New Year observance, and have been working on reorganizing my inventory, and donating items that I don't really think are going to sell. I don't want to hold onto things in my precious little storage space now that I know better the type of things people are interested in. I've already made my initial investment back, so there's no loss here for me in doing that, and a lot of it was my old stuff anyway. It feels good to see that stuff going away, making room for items that will sell for more, and move more quickly. I also want to list a lot more this year to help make that growth happen. Best of luck to you in achieving your goals!

    • @beckyparkco
      @beckyparkco  Год назад +1

Yes - to some degree, I think a smaller storage space can be a blessing in disguise. It forces you to be much pickier about the items you pick up versus taking everything like I've done in the past haha. I'm excited for your growth in 2023!!!

Listen! I just wrote this in a Facebook group. I’m not cleaning items. I’m selling on 2 platforms because the others don’t serve me. I’m not sourcing items to sell for $10/$15 dollars because it takes too many of those items to meet my profit goal. That’s a lot of sourcing, photographing, and listing which is overwhelming to me.

I’m feeling you on the imposter syndrome! That has been huge on my mind the past few weeks!! We are enough!! I just did my 2022 solds and profit totals (not counting consignment) and definitely not sourcing things that are below a certain possible sale amount. Seeing the fees versus cost and sale price was an eye opener!! 😮 I have a goal to be more serious even though I’m part time and be consistent. Shopify is great!! I don’t have a following but you should do great there!! I think about that every time I see and ad…ahhh to keep that revenue instead of the platforms! My other goal business wise is really going to have me lose imposter syndrome: getting back into my home staging and decluttering business-I just helped two people and it felt amazing and they were like why are you not doing this seriously!! Soooo we are all in 2023! Wishing you all the best!

Happy New Year, Becky! Unfortunately, my 4th quarter (Mainly from November on) stunk due to my falling and breaking my sacrum bone. I was in too much pain to source or even list. I am now almost 100% and I go back to my 9-5 job on January 9th. The main thing I started doing differently and will continue to do so in 2023, is niche down more. I watch Ginger Marvin and Dalton and they LOVE to source shoes. I found that by following their lead, I spend less of my valuable time going through every single rack at the thrift store. Was that worth my time? Nope. I get in... check shoes and get out. I have been enjoying a higher ASP and it feels really good. Also, I have been sending out VERY generous offers to get my stale inventory OUT! I set a very lofty goal for myself as well and I just want you to know that you were one of the first resellers I watched on YT and you have taught me so much over the years. THANK YOU.

Becky this is an amazing plan for the year. I'm also using Whatnot in the same way. I buy lots of items and I pick out the good items to list and the rest I put on Whatnot to unload. Live sales are just great for unloading the stuff that isn't worth listing on eBay.

I really agree with you about the live shows, the ones I have seen the sellers have to practically give the items away to get sales. It feels like a race to the bottom and I would only auction off my oldest inventory.

I agree about the posh shows! I REALLY do NOT get the live shows 🤔 It seems like such a waste of time for shoppers. It's like qvc, like infomercials, just like one super long add! I definitely did NOT see them becoming a thing! I get that generally prices are lower during shows, but other than that I see no point in them. Can anyone enlighten me?

I don't really think that many buyers like it. The numbers on most shows are low too. I think many buyers are just watching it for entertainment.

Great Video Becky- this is perfect timing and what i needed to hear. I was just setting my savings goal before watching this video. I myself work Full-time too and we have two little kids 1 and 6! Time is everything these days. I love reselling!! On January 16th. I'm off and organizing my office with the kids are at daycare. It's a scary mess and also talking my items that need listed. Also, next week, I plan on sitting down and really planing my goals. Thank you!! We do a lot the same!!

I am learning the same lesson that buying a $1 item and waiting forever to sell it is not worth my time. During Q4 my hubby encouraged me to buy higher priced items for bigger profits and they sold faster.

Oh boy… my problem is every time I see good quality man blazer in goodwill outlet or just regular goodwill I always buying it because I think it’s gonna sell for good price and it’s just sitting in my closet for a loooong time. And for some reason when I see it in the store I can’t pass by 🙈 so my goal of 2023 just stop picking up these man blazers 😅

Yes!!!! Thred up and Real Real are a big waste of time! I’m extremely upset with RR!! I sold a personal piece of jewelry with them and after agreeing on a sales price(in writing) with the promise of not discounting the item for at least a year, they discounted and sold it 25% off after only a few weeks. I’ve gone back and forth with them and they keep giving me some BS about their “sophisticated pricing structure”. Definitely done with them forever!! I wish you the best of luck with your new ideas and strategies!!

I loved this video So much! I've only been reselling for 1 year, but what you said echoes my intent for my reselling year also, mainly spending January fine-tuning systems for daily records, tracking, and consistency in listing processes. I still have So much to learn in even smoothly navigating and using Ebay especially but am determined! I also Really want a good App for mileage/mailing packages/sourcing receipts to have all that in one online place and in date order(I welcome suggestions). Also, a resource to easily compile expenses and profits from all platforms in 1 place (have only heard of My Reseller Genie so far). Thank you SO MUCH for what you do here! By far my favorite resource and learning tool! Your year will be amazing, I'm so sure!!!

All of this!!! I am really anxious to see how your Shopify endeavor goes - it’s something on my radar for sure. I also have the same exact feelings about live shows - would love it and I did enjoy the ones I did, but I can’t give up that amount of time and end up with no sales. I teach full time also, so time must be utilized fully. And I love the ROI metaphor for everything in life. What is my investment returning to me? ❤ all the luck in the new year!

Honestly, cross listing there would be the same as Depop worst case scenario for me haha nothings selling there either haha.

Great video! All of these companies are in it to make money. Period. It's a balancing act to keep resellers but bottom line is profit. I love thred up for bottom feeding for my own personal stuff that I can't find in thrift stores or reseller sites. Like italian flannel trousers in a brand that just doesn't have appeal. NWT over $400 purchased for 8. But for reselling nope. They resell on ebay cause you know.

I am also a teacher doing reselling on the side and I have recently contemplated going full-time but I am nervous that I won't have the time to put into reselling in order for it to be successful.
