If I was a new buyer on Poshmark and I saw all those fees added to my purchase. I would run for the hills and never purchase from them again. Not good.
@@angelabrainard4234 that’s 100% fair. I just wonder if everyone is as good at you as looking at fine details-I bet some buyers won’t even notice these changes.
Hello, I bought something a few days ago and INSTANTLY noticed the higher fee and clicked on that icon because I knew my taxes weren’t that high. I was outraged. I probably buy something in Poshmark 2-4 times a month but I will NO LONGER be casually buying things. That fee doesn’t make it worth it. PS..thank you for this video.
Right. Was just offered something for $20 with $8 shipping that I was willing to do then saw tax and fees was another $8. So it turned me off and I didn't buy. I didn't send a lower offer but messaged them saying the shipping and fees was a bit too much for me.
Right. I just went to purchase an item for $40. The “Buyer Protection Fee” was $8. With tax, shipping and buyer protection, the item came to $62. I canceled. Didn’t order. I order items weekly, hundreds of purchases. I will never purchase again. I am deleting my account, after this post.
I watched other RUclipsrs/Poshmark Sellers attempt to explain the new fee structure (making mistakes, transposing numbers, not mentioning Ambassador discounted shipping, etc.) You were by far the most comprehensive, inclusive, correct and easy to understand.

AND NOW to get hit w an instant buyer turnoff/bad taste on top of all of THAT? I WISH they would think of the LITTLE GUYS/GIRLS who want to commit to PM & perhaps need a little help vs "worst of the worst" costs automatically out of the gate. I just purchased a handbag for $300 with $61.15 added on from shipping, taxes, and buyer protection. The math is not mathing for me and I can tell you, I will be very hesitant to purchase anything else in or above the price range. I think this will result in lowballs to sellers in anticipation of these buyer protection fees.
Yep all you gonna see is people lowballing? If you have a $300 item they’re gonna offer you 100 bucks. It’s already starting and it’s disgusting and I’m just blocking everybody that does that to me.
@@AA-ih6kt Low-balling may seem like an insult, but it may actually be a negotiating tactic. The person may pay a price you are comfortable with in the end if they really want the item.
Personally, I think charging more to a buyer is a really bad idea. I know taxes are expected but it does take a huge toll on whether I'm going to purchase something especially when shipping is added. We're already experience inflation & adding this fee isn't going to help us make more sales. That $2-$3 increase doesn't sound like much but it will add up quickly. People love to shop while getting good deals & this is going to prevent them from buying big or multiple purchases 😕 This is just going to lower our buyers budgets instead of increasing our sales ☹ This is honestly the worst time for poshmark to add this change.
@@-HazexD that’s fair! I think some shoppers won’t notice because they’re not super detail oriented, but you’re right-I’m sure there are some who will see the change instantly and go somewhere else because of it. We won’t really know the lasting effects of this without time.
@@beckyparkco I dont know...maybe for those who impluse buy, but the total amount is lump summed when you click on to buy something. I was planning on buying a $15 item & when I clicked buy now the total was $29.11 😰 thats almost doubled the price! Completely turned me off 😅 there's a lot of psychology when it comes to buying & when you're facing a total thats doubled the price amount that isn't going to entice me to buy lol 😂 I would be down to pay all the fees if its a really special item. I think its time to start shopping at the mall again 🤣
@@beckyparkcoI actually think you’re wrong about this. I tend to want to buy more expensive items on PM so I can get a deal. With the new fees, several items I would’ve felt like I would’ve gotten a deal on are now closer to what I would’ve spent on the item brand new. In that case, I rather buy new. That total is a shock to the buyer. You don’t feel good about your purchase because you no longer feel like you got a deal.
@@beckyparkco you really think buyers - who are currently hyper aware of prices - won't notice how much higher the final price is vs. the listing price? It sounds like you are hoping that people have so much extra money to spend that while shopping on a (discount) clothing site they'll ignore the higher price. People are shopping on Poshmark because they want to SAVE money - NOT because they have extra money to throw around. Delusional much?
Why didn't they mention this at POSHFEST???? They knew it was coming down the pipeline. Thank you for making this video. Your explanation was thorough and easy to understand
I was at Poshfest and they mentioned that there were going to be changes to the fee structure and then left it at that and didn't elaborate. Like it was an afterthought. So they definitely avoided the topic in person knowing that it wasn't going to make people happy.
I sell ft on 4 platforms, and posh is about 1/2 my sales. Luckily most of my items are higher ticket. However, as I buyer, idk if I would want to pay an additional fee to buy a $10-15 item. IMO I think it’s a bad idea. Also, don’t put all your eggs in one basket! Learn eBay if you are not already on it. Way bigger buyer audience.
I’m ending my relationship with Poshmark! This new fee structure is confusing and counterproductive! Buyers are already lowballing and now with them being charged a fee will make it even worse. The buyer’s protection fee is a joke bc it’s supposed to be covering what we already had. The platform has been plummeting for a couple of years and the addition of live shows/ share shows has just cheapened the experience!
@@jennifergilbertson1144 I am already cross listing on eBay and so I will just pretty much focus on my eBay store and I have quite a few vintage pieces I plan to put on Etsy. The goal is to eventually have my own consignment website.
@@sakinahb.1278 it’s definitely a different Poshmark from a few years ago. That being said, yes-the buyer protection fee covers what we already had, but we have to remember-it’s not an addition-we were paying that before in the 20% fee. We are now often paying less than the 20% fee we would have paid. It FEELS extra because it has a new name, but like you said, it’s the same thing we used to pay more for.
@@beckyparkco you replied to me!! You’re so right but I’m so annoyed with Poshmark now. I wish they would just get it right for everyone (buyers and sellers) Ive been following you for years and using your tips! I’m so honored 😊😊
This was noticeably more expensive for me as a buyer. I just went on Poshmark and made an offer and was shocked at how much more expensive it seemed. I had no clue about this until I tried to buy an item and was like, “wait a minute… why does it cost that much?” With what era are trying to get for items and these fees, I would rather just buy the item new now. Not worth it.
Unfortunately I bought two items one for $14 and one for $55 from two different sellers before I even realise this change happened and I bought them because I wanted them but then I look at them now and it’s like what that stupid fee just kicked in like yesterday when I bought them so I didn’t even think about it But once bitten twice shy, I think I’m done buying on Poshmark
I’m so glad someone is talking about this specifically. Poshmark is supposed to be a way for me to buy second hand clothing or items that got away. I’d rather just wait now for a good sale from the brand itself rather than go to Poshmark.
Why can't the buyer opt out of the protection? I thought that the live shows were a massive change towards the negative. But the buyer paying almost 6%, taxes and 1 to 3 dollars is RIDICULOUS. Buyers, in general, DO NOT want to pay shipping. So many carts are abandoned because of the shipping costs. I doubt those additional protection fees will be received positively. The original vision and direction of the company is unrecognizable. This new fee structure is a NO for me.
My shipping on other platforms for my small items is 5.00 or less. They are already overcharging by forcing outdated "faster" flat rate priority shipping - even the post office admits that priority shipping is no longer prioritized for faster processing. Charging BUYERS for higher than needed shipping, and then making them pay a % fee on that, is gouging.
I hate it! When Mercari changed there fees to no fees, my sales went way, way down. Now, Poshmark has to be difficult, too. Ugh! And sales slowed down since they changed it! Double UGH!
As buyer fees go up, the cost of the items will inevitably go down. I can't list something for $40 if all the fees, etc are going to bring the buyer's final cost over $50. The buyer will offer a price that will keep her payment at or under $50. So profits will not necessarily increase significantly.
I am a seller, and if I were a buyer, I would go somewhere else. Paying to use a platform, because that's what it is, and that's sad. 20% was high, but it was simple for both parties
I agree. I have bought a few things on Poshmark and I find myself going to eBay now because I don’t want to pay extra fees on top of shipping and taxes.
@@Mon-Alisa I used to buy from Poshmark because some sellers offered the cheaper shipping, and because they always shipped USPS Priority. But I won't buy from Poshmark with their new fee. I will keep buying from eBay.
I love that the fee includes 24/7 customer service and yet when a user submits a question to Poshmark it says the team will respond in 1-3 business days.
Thanks, great video. There is so much to consider beyond these fee changes. Buyers dont want to pay a fee just to buy an item. I expect to see more lowball offers and sellers lowering prices to compensate for higher fees at checkout. I'm already paying for a cross listing service. Now PM wants me to pay to Promote my closet... AND then come Jan 1, probably pay for Posh Pass... it's too much. If PM sales go down in Q4, I can see people leaving PM and focusing on ebay instead. Hard to say right now what will happen. But my gut reaction is that these changes aren't good. 😢
@@drlynnmarie for sure. Like I said, this does all feel like a step 1 to a bigger rollout-I’m ok waiting it out and squeezing out as many sales as I can before things change even more. But I think my plan of attack for now is going to be not to change too much.
I have been a frequent buyer from Poshmark for the last three years, and have really enjoyed supporting small business resellers and receiving quality merchandise. ( never shop Amazon). However, with this additional buyers fee with each purchase - including bundles! - it's a deal breaker in terms of bread and butter items.
My honest opinion & I could be wrong. I think that Promoted Closet didn’t work out for them. Live selling is spotty at best. I think that if promoted closets had worked out the fee schedule would not have changed. If they would have done promoted closets like eBay that would have been better. I’m just gonna keep listing. I sold 2 items both low cost items. I’m just gonna wait it out but doing this in Q4 is crazy 🤦🏽♀️ Also posh is now making more than 20 % on both sides.
@@monicapwilson I’m gonna keep listing too! And yeah-they sure are trying so many new things, and you’re right that it stinks they’re doing something like this 4th quarter.
I totally agree 100% I cannot believe they did this in Q4. That was SOOO low of them. They did it sneakily in hopes that well people are going to buy anyways and didn't think once that it might not go as they hoped. Idk but I cant say much on my sales yet, but I will say I noticed the amount of likes I have been getting has drastically decreased.
Love your videos 💜 This is the first October in 6 years of reselling where my sales came to a complete stop. Even the years where sales were slow I still made decent profit. The majority of my sales were low to mid tier brand bundles that would sell for $50 to $100. Id have multiple bundle sales a month. At what point is too much for mostly pre owned clothing? Buyers have requested to cancel orders and are confused and pissed off. This is (was) my income because of my health. The last week or so I’ve been putting my energy into eBay. Let’s hope they reverse this before they lose buyers on the platform.
Hi Becky, Rich here. Within the next year or two, Resellers who do high volume sales will have their own website( Like we both have now). It's time to start listing on and promoting your own website. As you remember me telling you this last year and the year before that. You have to admit I saw this coming. WHO WANTS TO PAY TO SHOP & BUY? Buyers will be turned off. Will the big box retailers charge us a buyers fee for shopping online? will big box retailers charge us an entry fee to enter the brick & mortar? I did a video on this yesterday. P.S. My videos are not great like yours but I get the point across.
@@grabzndealz8213 thanks for your insights, rich! There have been some crazy changes in the retail space as well, like charging return fees and hiring third parties to track the return behavior of customers, sometimes even preventing them from returning an item at all. It’s getting weird out there!
Thank you for sharing this! I have a website for my handcrafted soap/skincare and was considering cross listing my hippie thrifting finds to a "boutique" page on that site! I also have a farm boutique where local people who order online can choose "farm pickup" . Definitely going to tackle this!! Thanks! ~jc
Thank you for this video! I am a frequent Poshmark buyer and casual seller. When I went to buy a pair of shoes this weekend (maybe $30 or so) I noticed a total of $12 added on to the cost of the item and balked… I think there will be other buyers will be in the same position as me. Shipping and tax - it is what it is, but for whatever reason an extra fee just to buy something really put me over the edge and prevented me from completing the sale.
I think the biggest issue is that your item has a vaule and the buyer is only going to pay what they perceive it is worth. I believe sellers will need to reduce their price to equal what the actual value is to the buyer. Your item's total fees to the buyer matter. While i continue to move items well on ebay - posh has all but dried up. Im going to have to cancel Posher VA - at this point as a small seller.... im spending way more than im making on posh. Im hoping our buyers will meet us over on Ebay.
@@ChristineJohnsonTx I think everything you said makes sense. For now, I’m not going to drop my prices, but if I get a low offer on something, I might accept knowing that with the change in fee structure, I can actually come out ahead. It’s weird; while eBay occasionally does better for me, usually Poshmark is my clear winner. But we’ll see with these changes if that remains the case.
This was helpful! I am worried because it does seem better for us sellers, but I feel bad for the customers. I also feel for people who only sell under $10-15 items. it doesn't seem to me that poshmark is very transparent and words things strangely or cryptically.
Great explanation and coverage of this! It seems like these changes could benefit large PM sellers but hurt those that sell a small amount of lower value items and are not PM ambassadors. It also will drive buyers away. There were two items I stopped buying because of the $4+ buyer protection fee that made a $20 item an out-the-door cost of $32 (with $5.95 shipping). This fee structure reminds me of rental cars where your daily rate of $50 turns into $80 a day with all the taxes and fees they want you not to think about. To your point about future changes, I see them making a one-time yearly fee (like Amazon Prime) for people to get into the discounted shipping program, which is really just revenue for them for allowing people not to pay the inflated shipping costs.
I had a buyer yesterday who messaged me on PM asking when this extra fee was instituted and before I could respond they purchased the same item off me, but on Ebay. Fine by me!
Great video, Becky! I’m a fellow Poshmark Ambassador and laughed out loud at the 24/7 customer support. 😂😂 As a seller, I email them and it takes 1-2 days for them to reply. Guess we will have to see how these changes affects our sales. 🤔 And I did not receive the email, I found out when another RUclipsr posted a link to the Poshmark blog post and discussed it in their video. I wish they would focus their energy on bringing more customers to the platform. Anyway, love all your videos! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The 20 pecent sucked bad but at least i was making sales. Now there go my sales because no one is gonna wanna pay a bunch of fees on top of the item price and 7.99 shipping. I found out about the change last night when i went to buy a pair of shorts id been eyeing that the seller offered me 24.00 on and when i went to check out suddenly they were 38 and some change 🙄🤦♀️ just like mercari they are killing the platform and thats why im going over to marketplace and selling to people directly.
Why don't they FIX the search function! Or any of the other things that regular users have been voicing for YEARS?? They're focused on the stupidest stuff. It's infuriating.
As a seller, my initial thought was "wow this is awesome, less fees!" But knowing that as a buyer, I would NOT pay a protection fee, what am I even doing selling on this platform anymore? Totally bogus.
I’m a bargain shopper, so if I see an added fee just to purchase an item I would probably not buy a higher priced item. I do feel like this is going to impact my sales and drive buyers to other platforms like Whatnot. Great video Becky. You made everything very clear. Thank you.
Me and a customer (that I love!) were talking about the changes on Posh last week. While talking about it we realized we both watched THIS video to understand the breakdown. By now though Posh put their original structure back faster then I could understand the changes!!!! lol. LOVE you BECKY
My concern more than fees is whether sales will decrease even more. It has been rough. I have items in my closet that a year ago would have sold in a couple of months and are just sitting.
GREAT VIEDO - I have watched a ton of videos on this update. Yours was the first one that made me actually understand it. No wonder you’re a teacher. All those little humans sure are blessed to have you!!
Great video. I have consistently sold 3k per month on poshmark, for the past 2 years. My sales stopped after thy implemented this. I am so sad they did this q4.
Thanks Becky. This is the best explanation I have seen. I accepted a $15 offer and ended up paying $3.45 in fee rather than the prior 3.00 flat fee. I hate this change and have no respect for Poshmark. Time to start listing on ebay!
@@mindystahl7701 thank you for your kind words. And yikes-that stinks! Thanks for sharing your real numbers as well. Definitely looks like they’re trying to discourage smaller dollar sales.
Yeah it’s crazy you actually make more off a $14 sale than a $15 sale in this new structure. So weird. Now that I know that I will no longer send out $15 offers.
it's ridiculous that they are charging us 6% on the taxes and shipping too! my bread and butter items are making LESS or maybe 10¢ more than when it was 20% or $2.95 under $15. I'm only keeping my account open to see it they come to their senses
You are awesome for making this video! I just have been too busy to click on all of the links they had to answer questions. I felt they should have just been in the email. Much easier to listen to you while multitasking. There is one question I have that I'm hoping you can answer: So the posh ambassador $5.95 shipping discount on our closets.... since they do not show me when I have a sale how much my buyer paid in tax & shipping I can't tell if when someone sends me an offer & i counter and then they accept if they got the discount or paid full shipping, same when someone hearts something &I send an offer out..if I offer a shipping discount at that point do I now pay for the shipping discount myself...and if I don't send it with that discounted shipping do they still get that shipping discount(there is no place I can see to check on this.)? Hopefully you get the idea. It bothers me the way they keep their descriptions so lacking details..details that make the new feature/s a perk and not a pain in the ass. Not understanding fees or new features makes it hard to list or make offers with understanding .
This is similar to the new fee structure on Mercari, which I dont care for now either. In my opinion, the new fee structure makes it harder for sellers to sell their items, especially for higher priced items. Yes, initially I thought that I would make more money, but that's not necessarily the case. Even before the fee changes, buyers wanted you to lower prices. Buyers will still want lower prices to compensate for the new buyer fees, which again makes it harder for sellers when they're selling higher priced items. I've been selling on these selling platforms for over 10 years, and I've gotten used to paying sellers fees. It was easy and simple and I could price my items accordingly. Now I have to take into consideration the new fees buyers are paying when pricing my items. Before the changes, some selling platforms had higher fees than others, but it worked. I really wish Poshmark and Mercari would have just the fee structure the way it was.
I'm a Posh Ambassador II, sales came to a halt a few weeks ago when then rolled out- last few days made a few sales, HOWEVER I had to drop my price over 50%- also had someone cancel because of the new fees. This is not good-losing customers - we lose in so many ways with low ballers, and no sales-
Something does not sit well with all this. I would advise anyone who is selling only on Poshmark to start reselling on at least one other platform. Start to diversify and dabble in selling on other platforms.
Becky thank you so much for this video! I had not yet taken the time to figure out the new structure. This was SO HELPFUL! You broke it down like a champ, no stone unturned! Poshmark makes my head spin these days. I appreciate you taking the time to do this deep dive!! oxoxo
Posh Ambassador here, online reselling is my full-time job and Poshmark is my main platform. Sadly, my sales have tanked since the new fee schedule has rolled out. I'm now offering free shipping on orders totaling $100 or more to see if that gets some traction. I will say that I have seen a major uptick in sales on eBay.
While sellers make more from higher items, buyers also have to pay a lot more which is going to make higher price sales harder. I know I wouldn't pay that extra fee.
Why are TAXES being incorporated into the fee we pay? Ridiculous. The fact that we even pay taxes after buying/selling USED CLOTHING is just flat wrong. Many states don't even charge taxes on clothing (up to a certain amount), yet we pay taxes for used clothing ???
Exactly! I personally think charging a fee on top of taxes should be illegal..in my state we pay 10%..that's a lot! & now we're being charged more? Psh..🙄
Tax on Poshmarks website, shows it's actually based on the sellers address, the buyers address and the type of item. So tax is even more confusing then just finding your states tax.
Thank you for breaking down the numbers! I haven't made a poshmark sale since the new fee structure, I'm wondering if buyers are scared away from purchasing? Has anyone else noticed a drop in sales the past few days?
@@katourecloset I made a sale the day of the change (the buyer probably didn’t even notice the fee), and I did have a rather small sale today. We’ll see what happens, I guess!

As a buyer, I will NOT buy from Poshmark ever again. I already left Mercari since they started charging us buyers those two new fees and not charging their sellers any fees. Both these companies fail to recognize that we buyers are their Golden Goose, and they are killing it to their detriment.
@@hollyp4579 Poshmark just reversed the change and went back to the old fee system. Good thing they wised up. Now I may go back to using them. Too bad seller fees are, and have always been, too high.
Poshmark's buyer protection fee is a joke. When I had a problem with a buyer they sided with the buyer even though it was clear that I was in the right. They said I sent an item that wasn't a pampered chef item even though it was in a pampered chef box with the instructions and was clearly imprinted on the item pampered chef. They gave a refund to the buyer even though they didn't return all of the order. Sold 646 items without a problem so that should told Poshmark something! Disappointed!

Of course this change in fee structure benefits Poshmark the company. It would be interesting to know what % of sales fall in the lower 1-2-3 structure, because this is where the seller doesn’t benefit much at all, and the buyer certainly doesn’t benefit now either. I would hypothesize that the higher tier sales are few and far between, given my own closet history, so my own profits from Poshmark sales may not see much of a change at all. Thanks for breaking this down, Becky.
My thoughts exactly. I’m willing to bet that the lower sales are far more common. They are now getting percentage from the seller and the buyer and raking in so much more money.
The shipping "posh protect" isn't anything that poshmark does. That is the insurance from usps that is included with using priority mail. They just claim that it is them doing it
I’m so grateful that you did this video! These fees are somewhat confusing and from watching you all these years since I started selling I knew all I had to do was wait for your video explaining what it all means and it would then make sense. So again, thank you!
eBay is not charging buyers a fee in other countries, eBay UK got rid of SELLER'S fees only for private sellers. That said, is annoying how PM is insulting our intelligence claiming sellers fees will be significantly reduced as if none of us could do basic math, we are paying MORE fees than before on low-priced items, and maybe making an extra $1-$3 on higher priced items, like you said, the earning different is only significant in very high-priced items only, but for the most part, they are getting almost the same fees from sellers, but now they are also getting fees from buyers. My sales, offers, likes & any sort of activity stopped right after this change. The most mind-blowing thing for me, is they decided to make this change right before Q4, like wtf? Regarding the buyer's protection fee, this is only going to open the door for more returns being approved. Lastly, PM is only covering the shipping discount for a couple of months, then they will start charging ambassadors for this.
They are punishing larger purchases. That seems to be against their original model of wanting the ‘posh’ items. They are killing their own business model. Sad. 😢
I suspect the buyer will expect the seller to sell for less … thereby having the seller indirectly absorbing the extra buyer fees. Products appear to be selling for substantially less this year anyway - I expect it will be less again with these new buyer protection fees.
I love the first ever benefit for being a Posh Ambassador!!! However as usual the shipping discount is not at all transparent to the buyer! I tested it out because I wasn’t sure if I could stop sending my offers with the discount or not so I liked something from my main closet on my second closet and I got my offer but it said nothing about the shipping discount like it used to, the only way to see that you are getting a discount is to hit accept which obviously not all buyers are going to do. Why would they not include that information in the offer anymore? So frustrating! Great video btw!!
That was my question too…do you still need to offer the shipping discount in order for the buyer to see it? If you do send the discount does that override the Posh Ambassador discount?
@@annecole371 I don’t send the discount myself but I do send a little message to each liker letting them know that I have sent them an offer with discounted shipping so that they know that the offer does include the discount. I can already see that adding the buyer protection fee on top of the already outrageous price a buyer pays that this will kibosh the entirety of my reselling business
Im a buyer. I quit ordering on mercari when they upped their fees. I moved to poshmark. I canceled both of my orders after i realized the fees were so high. I was not aware they were charging protection fees. Im done with poshmark.
This was a great breakdown, thank you! I'm concerned about this expecially the introduction of it during Q4 when I was expecting to see sales increases after a sluggish summer. Posh seems all over the map with the live shows, the promoted closest and their crappy search function. I'm gonna wait it out but also start seeing how much time/effort/expense it is to have my own website (which may defeat the purpose of this being part time for me.) We'll see.....
One other thing to consider is that Poshmark purchases are NOT insured by USPS. Poshmark uses Endicia to "self insure" each shipped item. There is never a claim filed with USPS on a lost/broken/undelivered item. Look at your label, you will see the Endicia branding on it. It is not described on the label, but you can find the information on Google.
Very complete and well done. I wouldn't buy anything at this point. unless it was such a special item that I couldn't find it anywhere on the entire planet.
Humm I’m concerned because I don’t find Poshmark has enough buyers/or presence in the marketplace. With extra fees shoppers will leave! People don’t want to be charged for shopping. They already pay shipping and tax.
Becky, Sellers will only make more money on items over $50 if the buyer is willing to pay the listing price. It’s entirely likely most buyers will want the item for a discounted price so they can cover their new fees. I had been considering cross listing to PM, now I feel like it’s a wait and see decision.
I absolutely love watching your videos but this one was extremely informative. I don't think that poshmark is helping themselves in the long run. I think that it's possible that sales will be going down for all of us. It's kind of like the thrift stores with raising all of their prices because of the whole reselling thing. So they want to make more profit. In the end we all loose and it's really sad. It basically boils down to greed plain and simple. We all know what happens when people get to greedy! Thanks for another great video!
@@jennifersturges5011 thank you for your kind words. Yeah; I don’t want to pretend (they way they kind of are) that this decision was 100% altruistic-there’s definitely something in it for them too, and most likely more so for them than for the community.
Excellen break down Becky! I think the best math teachers are people who don't think they are good at math. The new fee structure may not be simple and be more to Poshmark's benefit, but personally I love the fact that ambassadors at long last have some kind of tangible benefit. Personally, I have not seen a decrease in my sales on any of the platforms that are now charging buyer fees (Depop, Mercari, and now Poshmark). I did not change my prices, and have not gotten any increase in lowball offers.
@@thriftwithjoy yes! I haven’t seen very many changes either. And thank you for your compliments on my elementary school math skills haha-I am so self conscious of how bad my mathing is lol
Thank you for breaking this down in simple terms! I feel like the buyer fees are going to lose poshmark and it’s sellers sales. If I had to choose I’d keep the 20% seller fee and not scare away potential buyers.
I appreciate this video and the breakdown of both seller and buyer. Frankly, I am not a "re-seller" in the sense that it is my side hustle or full time job. I'm just a person who wants to sell and few pieces from her closet she no longer uses and maybe buy a piece or two with the credits I've earned. It seems people like me are the ones being more impacted by the new structure. The seller fee seems the same but the buyer fee is ridiculous. "for customer service" is a joke. I've dealt with the costume service as a buyer before and its laughable. I buy second-hand to not only do my small part to not buy fast-fashion but also as a cost factor. So the item will now cost me more and you bet your butt I'd be looking at the "tax and fee" section because it's 25% of the cost of the item (not including the shipping cost).
Your explanation was fantastic!! I think it will change the minds of some buyers. I have to say my Mercaris sales are garbage anymore. I am right along with you.
Hi, lovely Becky; your video calmed me down because I am slightly freaked out about these changes! I recently purchased a bunch of stuff from a Posh Show, which cost me an extra $20 in fees, which I was not thrilled about. I am mainly a seller, and I have made only one sale since the change. I also got a lowball offer, which I wasn't too happy about. I am concerned we will be getting lowball offers because buyers are paying this high protection fee. I want to be as hopeful as you! I hope you are right and it will not affect our sales in the long run! The good news is that my buyers are getting the discounted shipping fee at least until the end of this year because I am also a Posh Ambassador.
Thanks for the breakdown Becky!! I sold a coach crewneck for $25that I had originally had listed for $50… I ended up taking a loss… I’m going to have to price up. Most of my inventory is very expensive 😢
@@triciam4798 I’m sorry to hear that 😢 Yeah-when you’re dealing with with high cog, Poshmark makes it difficult to make a profit. You have to be very careful.
I’m still going to sell there but I’ll shop elsewhere.😅 It’s good for Luxury brand Live sellers, the buyers can’t see how much in total will be until the show ends. They will be surprised how expensive it is but can’t cancel it.
I also love the shipping discount. I'm going to enjoy it during Q4, and then we'll see what happens. I sell a lot of low dollar items and always offered a shipping discount, so I should make a bit more on each sale this quarter. Also, the opposite of deficit in that context is surplus...and I think the addition of taxes and shipping in that calculation is resulting in a surplus for Poshmark :)
I’m just going to keep listing as I was doing… not sure if it’s because of the changes or not but I had NO sales on Poshmark!! Nada!!! This has never happened before. I’ve always had at least 1 sale in a week time period 😢
If I was a new buyer on Poshmark and I saw all those fees added to my purchase. I would run for the hills and never purchase from them again. Not good.

Agree. the big oversight here is that the app is killing buy side demand. Will be a net negative for sellers.
Sellers beware- The fact that buyers are being charged more means more low ball offers
I am deleting my account, after this post.

grrrr. Math isnt my skillset.
I (finally!) got my future seller game plan for profit vs COG structure to adhere to & use by rote when sourcing and/or deciding future disc offers....
I think I need a spreadsheet for creating sample #/$ p/$10, $15, $20, $35, $50 sales = to know appx net PM income = based on assumed high tax, highest shipping fee (since I'll be a newbie, not a PA)
THAT's MY VENT!
as a newbie who has GREATLY INVESTED time/money/research/training/better sourcing/lower COG ~ now that i am finally (!!!) ready to LAUNCH my closet as a new Biz = Then BAM!!! whammy!!
I (wish) they would offer "brand new sellers" some kind of (even temporary) "Bonus" as enticement to starting up w PM = like offering short term "1st 50 Sales" etc @lower shipping disc options, etc = as NEWBIES get REALLY squeezed = ALREADY AN OBVI UPHILL BATTLE to gain an audience, build up to meaningful sales, earn the right to do Live Shows, earn the right to be a PA, etc... AND NOW to get hit w an instant buyer turnoff/bad taste on top of all of THAT? I WISH they would think of the LITTLE GUYS/GIRLS who want to commit to PM & perhaps need a little help vs "worst of the worst" costs automatically out of the gate.
(ok, NOW I'm done. just venting)
But I've invested too much to not give it a shot, SEE what happens, watch it all, LISTEN TO EXPERTS I CAN TRUST LIKE YOUR AMAZING YT CHANNEL... and keep my fingers crossed... (perhaps diversfying more cross listing to protect myself more than I inititally planned! if PM doesnt value ME, then I need to protect my biz w smart choices)
(and... final... scene!)
(Thanks BP! truly appreciate your insights!) ❤
Yeah gee I wonder why they didn't mention that
I sell ft on 4 platforms, and posh is about 1/2 my sales.

Definitely price gouging
I was buying on poshmark constantly. Now, they've lost a buyer.
An $18 item was gonna cost me $32.11. $7.97 shipping + $6.14 tax/buyer protection fee.
Yeah I just submitted an offer and saw that, I’m like what???
@monicatill4450 if I bought something, it's only beneficial for the seller if it's over $50, which in turn ends up costing me $70.
Live Shows it's gonna be more !!
Yes it will hurt our business because of the extra fees!
Sellers don't take home a lot more money if buyers are put off and don't buy.
That is exactly the point, it’s a run around shady way to raise fees.
Shipping label is printed using my printer, my ink , my paper.
I just had an order cancel because she had to pay the "buyer's protection fee" so now I expect lowballing like crazy, just like Mercari..
And they are all scripted replies
Thanks, great video. There is so much to consider beyond these fee changes. Buyers dont want to pay a fee just to buy an item. I expect to see more lowball offers and sellers lowering prices to compensate for higher fees at checkout. I'm already paying for a cross listing service. Now PM wants me to pay to Promote my closet... AND then come Jan 1, probably pay for Posh Pass... it's too much. If PM sales go down in Q4, I can see people leaving PM and focusing on ebay instead.
I started as a buyer and I absolutely will not be buying anything on the platform in the future!
That discounted shipping is temporary. It seems like eventually we as sellers would have to eventually to pay for that Posh Pass.
It would have to be dirt cheap otherwise you’re just better off offering discounted shipping without any commitment.
Fine by me!

@@mindystahl7701 thank you for your kind words. And yikes-that stinks! Thanks for sharing your real numbers as well. Definitely looks like they’re trying to discourage smaller dollar sales.
@@yvettegarcia6219 thanks for sharing your numbers with us so we can see real life affects of the changes.
Yeah it’s crazy you actually make more off a $14 sale than a $15 sale in this new structure. So weird. Now that I know that I will no longer send out $15 offers.
They not only charged you the $3.45 but the buyer pays that much as well. So NOW they are collecting $6.90 on a $15 sale. So frustrating!
it's ridiculous that they are charging us 6% on the taxes and shipping too! my bread and butter items are making LESS or maybe 10¢ more than when it was 20% or $2.95 under $15.
@@beckyparkco best of luck going forward!
YES!
Yes, no sales & two very low ball offers.
I'm sorry about that. I was an avid buyer. I haven't made any purchases on poshmark since the change. It has deterred me tremendously.
Today 10/7 on Poshmark, I sold a pair of Olukai women's loafers for $40 on a bundle, no shipping discount. They would normally charge me $8. Instead, my seller fee was $4.97. I made $35.03 and not $32. I know it's only $3.03, but it adds up fast. Happy with the new changes! Thanks Becky for explaining everything in a way that makes sense. 🎉❤
As a buyer, I will NOT buy from Poshmark ever again. I already left Mercari since they started charging us buyers those two new fees and not charging their sellers any fees. Both these companies fail to recognize that we buyers are their Golden Goose, and they are killing it to their detriment.
Poshmark is charging the sellers the fee too. They are splitting the same fee to BOTH seller and buyers.
@@hollyp4579 Poshmark just reversed the change and went back to the old fee system. Good thing they wised up. Now I may go back to using them. Too bad seller fees are, and have always been, too high.
I love watching your channel, Becky! I totally love the teacher that flows out from you and your always sneaking in vocabulary bombs.❤
@@Dana-vq1tk awww ty!!! I appreciate it!
@@karenwells7044 yeah-I’ve heard lots of stories regarding returns about all the platforms. No matter what, they’re always going to get some things wrong. And it’s even more frustrating when you’re paying them for that haha
It didn’t seem to be horrible for me neither when they announced it, BUT… being 2 weeks into that and I made just 3 sales! Normally I make 2-3 a day! So this new fee structure killed my closet
Poshmark is making money from both the seller and buyer now is the truth of this entire scheme
Looks like a new platform could be beneficial…. I’m ok with waiting this out but it won’t take long to see how this goes… thank you for your videos and also help through this change… Much appreciated!
@@zappazowie6959 I feel like there are always new platforms popping up here and there, but it’s hard to build a loyal audience. But you’re right-time will get soon tell how these changes affect the Poshmark community as a whole.
You did a really good job breaking all this down
eBay is not charging buyers a fee in other countries, eBay UK got rid of SELLER'S fees only for private sellers.
I don’t know what would happen if you sent the discount yourself though because I haven’t wanted to take the chance that I would have to pay it
So annoyed by these changes. Poshmark just can’t seem to get it right. Just yesterday I had someone cancel an order because they didn’t want buyer protection and were annoyed by the new fees. I’ve only had one sale since they changed their fee structure.
@@szashemashburn9288 I’m so sorry to hear that 😢 Mercari was quick to reverse some of the changes they made due to general outrage lol-it’ll be interesting to see what happens with Poshmark.
I agree, the wording is representation that additional changes/fees or some sort of subscription are going to hit in the new year. I'm going to stick to Posh for now and just see what happens. Thank you for the video!
@@Kitty.CastleStore thanks for watching! Yeah…I feel like they were very intentional with their wording to leave room for more changes in the near future…
Nowadays it feels like buying new is cheaper. Most place offer free shipping/returns and no random service fees.
I’m in Canada so this hasn’t gone into effect for us yet but I sure hope it never does! Here in Canada buyers pay $12.50 for shipping and 13% in tax yes you heard me correct 13%!
Same
This was a great breakdown, thank you!
I didn’t notice the fees until I paid something over $120 and that’s when I started investigating. My decision is to no longer purchase from PM.
I did the math and if you make sales for $15,$16,$17 & $18 then you are loosing money compared to the previous fee structure.
So funny when I first got that message from Poshmark, I thought I hope Becky makes a video about it soon 😉
@@sunshinedream7772 awwww thanks for thinking of me!!
Thank you for breaking it down, Becky. So far I have been getting sales and I'm making more. We will see what the future holds.
I wonder if the buyers are even aware of the change yet, probably purchase and don’t check out the total figuring it’s gonna be the same as usual.
@@Mari-hb4cw honestly, I think that’s what’s happening.
@@calidebs950 I’m happy to hear you’re making sales! Personally, I’d recommend to just keep going!
Humm I’m concerned because I don’t find Poshmark has enough buyers/or presence in the marketplace. With extra fees shoppers will leave! People don’t want to be charged for shopping. They already pay shipping and tax.
Awesome explains Becky. If we need to really understand something leave it to an obviously really great teacher.
Bottom line: companies never give away money. They may make you think they are saving you money, but they will absolutely make it up somewhere else.
Thank you so much for making this video and taking the time to break it all down. It was so helpful! =)
Great simple breakdown- THANK YOU! Btw I am a posh ambassador and did not get the memo on this- did it come via email? I am checking my junk folder!
I sold a coach crewneck for $25that I had originally had listed for $50… I ended up taking a loss…
I’m going to have to price up.
I like when you said. “$4.37 and $4.35. I don’t know. It’s close enough”.. I love it! Lol😅
@@MaryM-cb8xt haha in the moment I was like “WHAT IS THE WORD.” I hope your have a great Q4!!!
As a result, buyers don't want to buy at a higher price point :/ as a seller, I still don't see benefits.
I’m just going to keep listing as I was doing… not sure if it’s because of the changes or not but I had NO sales on Poshmark!! Nada!!! This has never happened before. I’ve always had at least 1 sale in a week time period 😢
Thank you so much for breaking it down from the buyer and seller POV and from the before and after Oct 3!!!
