I'm a reasonably talented guitarist (george winters, embryonic journey, for ex.) and came across this as a shortcut to figuring out this tune. Just wanted to say this is probably the most effective guitar lesson I've ever seen on line. Talented player, singer and communicator. Thanks for the inspiration!
Shame Llama I'm now 7 minutes in and it's still excellent. I'm quite a novice and I've found it frustrating with some videos having to squint to see what pattern the right hand is picking. The light in this video makes it easy to see, but more so the verbal and text description of the pattern makes it pretty damn near impossible to not learn this given sufficient practice.
@@carsonnova4193 I don’t know how they learned but i took a guitar class in school that taught me the basics and got me on the right track, but ever since then (last year) its just been me watching tutorials and a bunch of practice, as long as you don’t give up you’ll see yourself progress. Lessons just like this is how i became good
Well as this is youtube it's rather odd that you didn't take the opportunity to upload a video of this virtuoso performance from a 4 month beginner....lol
It’s amazing what beautiful melodic combinations can be unlocked with the 1-5-6-4 chord pattern with the Travis picking pattern layered onto it. Great tutorial for beginner to intermediate level players, as well.
You are an excellent instructor. Explaining the chord progression and fingerpicking elements seperately is missed in so many lessons. Your breakdown of all the individual elements is perfect!
i watch and learned from youtube.( i am a self taught on guitar) and i don't leave comment very often, but this time i must. i learn lot just watching this video. it's like one full packet comes together in a single video. thanks and i'll practice what i got from this video start now
Thanks Rob I'm gonna go for the hammer on as well Excellent *****. All the the little subtleties covered. Very well structured, This has got to be one of the best instructional guitar demos I've seen posted. If your ever in London I'll buy you a pint.
this is so clear. If I can learn it, then you're a great teacher. A thousand thanks, I've always loved this song, and now I almost got it after an hour.
I herd a busker playing this in Liverpool today while I was at work so I waited until he was finished to ask what the song was...I have just found this tutorial and it's the Travis finger picking pattern hahahah I have recently just learned dust in the wind which is the same I'm so happy...I got this... keep it up dude
The best explained travis picking lesson i have ever found , i have all ways wanted to play this song in the correct way ,now with practice i can ,thank you so very much .
Actually learnt this at last! yey! sounds great with hitting the high e-string too. (this is the most comprehensive easy to follow lesson I found - thanks :)
I like your version better. The slower tempo and the way you sing it sounds better than the original in my opinion. Much appreciated for the help on this song
This is a really organized lesson. Its not easy to explain fingerpicking patterns with chord progressions. I have tried to play this song several times and have come up woefully short until now. thanks so much for posting this
Thanks alot for the video! I've read tabs and tried to listen to figure out how to fingerpick this song but never really gotten close to get it to sound good. Thanks to your video it only took me about 1-1,5 hour to get it perfect, very instructive and helpful video. Earned a subscriber!
This was a brilliant lesson. Clear instructions explained perfectly. Possibly the best song tutorial I’ve come across on RUclips. I’ll definitely be looking at what else you have to offer!
more Dylan lessons please! can never figure out how to pick em! if you could play with on screen tab too, that would be excellent! pleeeeease do this - series of Dylan songs. Don't think anyone else is doing it )
Hey, I just put up a new lesson on Bob Dylan's "Blowing in the Wind" at ruclips.net/video/Ly4QVZFijzs/видео.html. Tabs for my recent and future lessons are available at patreon.com/swiftlessons with a small donation. Thanks!
Though a legit solution, your only cheating your developement to do so. Being proficient at alternating fingers in the bass is key to mastery and you won't have the same crispness between notes.
@@furst2b12 also switching to a pinky finger on the high G note opens up many more options. It is hard to do after years of playing with my third finger. First time i've had fun giving myself a headache in ages.
You ARE adorable! 💜 your lessons are of the best I've seen! This is my first EVER RUclips comment and I have to let you know how incredibly helpful, delightful & happier my guitar progress has been cause of your videos. Thank you.
Very welcome Eric Snyder, thanks for watching. Thanks to this tune i've improved my Travis picking quite a bit, and got rid of a few bad habits, so it was my pleasure. Many more to come, keep checking back. -Rob
Nice, helped me a lot. Its also very rare for YT teachers to take the time to reply to comments so diligently. More power to your elbow chum, ,,May your excellent work carry on,,
Hey thanks a ton Anthony Bolton, glad you enjoyed the lesson! Yes, I try to answer every comment that comes in, and I'm having a great time connected with the community. Much more is on the way, keep checking back. I'll look forward to hearing from you again my friend. Be well. -Rob
So glad to hear that Mitch, congrats and thanks for the positive note. I’ll keep the lessons coming, both here and at Patreon.com/Swiftlessons. Have fun! -Rob
Thank you very much for this excellent lesson Rob, as always. And for the chords, on your docs, very well put on the phrasing of the songs: even on the "specialized" sites, it's always shifted. From the 1st level contribution, you give a lot, MERCI !
Ali Bibbo Thanks so much for checking it out! This is a great tune that has opened a lot of doors for me. I'd suggest checking out my lesson on Hang me, Oh, Hang Me which is very similar. Also this is the same pattern used in Dust in the Wind and Helplessly Hoping by CSN. Thanks so much for your positive feedback, much more is on the way. Be well. -Rob

thanks so much! been a dream to learn this song and could never get it from other tutorials. i'm finally on my way...just need a bit more practice. great way to break it down with on screen chords. made all the difference :)

Great video. I recommend playing a full C chord (include the G root) so that you don't have to alternate your third finger on the C picking pattern
