I hollered !!! I was coming down to write this lol 😂 … when she said Breastfeeding is the best I was like yea that’s what you say now lol 😂 I was floored when she switched up to formula lol 😂
This is a great example of subverting expectations through casting. Justin Long usually plays likable guys, often protagonists, and most of the audience knows Bill Skarsgård best as Pennywise. It would be easy to cast Justin as Keith and Bill as AJ, but Barbarian gets so much mileage out of the reverse.
Keith is a guy that was put in an extremely awkward situation and he tried to make the best of it but it kept coming off as weird. It’s hilarious in hindsight because you can see he was trying his best to make Tess feel comfortable lmao
FANTASTIC REACTION!! Also, I'm always surprised when no one notices that the dress in papa's room is from the woman that he followed home from the store that day and that she was the original mama. 🤑
Was she definitely the original though? Cuz when he got home from that trip you could hear screaming from a woman who was already there. The woman who he was buying the home birth stuff for, I think. I think he had a few women, hence the cages. Either way, I definitely didn’t notice that dress. Good catch!
@@andsoitshelby1924 I know your comment was 4 months ago but just wanted to add... if Momma was a child from multiple generations of incest, his daughter's daughters... How many women would he have to kidnap & r*pe to get lots of daughters (and what happened to any sons)? Suppose he kidnapped his first victim when he was 20 and the victim was 20 (though probably younger) and she had a daughter at 21, then he waits for that one to reach an age where he can do the same (say as young as 14 if this was maybe 1960s). That is the only way he could still be alive and possibly in his 80s for Momma to be in her 40s and to be the daughter of one of his daughters... UNLESS there was more than one disfigured Momma that went out at night through the years, though that other man knew her by sight and he lived nearby for 15 years). It is possible for incest to cause a child with major developmental issues but multiple generations of inbreeding would be more likely to cause her to be that way (as well as living underground for many years, and apparently coming out only at night). If he had some women before but the one they showed him following & going to her home was actually the mom of Momma, and she had major problems with no generational incest, then he had to have had other women around as she grew up, for her to see more than just that video & want a baby. Either way, he had so many tapes of different women, and if he wasn't keeping each and inpregnating them all over & over, then he was going out and grabbing new ones through the years which would be more risky to him & being caught than to just have his own majorly inbred family. He had to be killing any boys though and also disposing of different bodies at night probably, and if the neighborhood was the disaster it was now, then why did that guy move in & stay there? Was he just homeless & had no choice & stayed even after seeing Momma & bad things happening?? Later, my guess is the dad had some illness or injury and has been in that bed with Momma taking care of him, which could have been a recent thing (or maybe from before the other man came there 15 years ago and never saw him out). Maybe Momma wanted a baby & has enough intelligence to continue what he was doing (I assume he had to have taken some people that came there when it became an AirBnB). He could have bought the cages 5 years before or 40... back when he was younger & must have dug the tunnels & made it the dungeon that it was. Maybe it was only the one room & he continued after the first victim & extended everything through the years, maybe with help from some of his daughters (definitely forced help if he was r*ping each of them over the years & then their daughters). And once he couldn't help himself or possibly couldn't abuse and control Momma, he wanted to end his life. Though it seems weird if he had the gun at hand. Maybe he used it to protect himself from her sometimes or just there at the end. Was she afraid to go near him? How was he getting food & surviving without her help? Or maybe he had it for if anyone escaped & got to him... but now he just wanted to die). Sorry for the long necro post!! This movie is just too trippy!!!
I like this movie had the balls to introduce a new protagonist so suddenly in the middle of the movie. Justin Long's character is the kind of guy the audience assumes Keith is at first.
@@joey.thanes they intentionally wrote him to raise as many red flags as possible. Tess would've been safe if she just left at the beginning when he was being "just a bit awkward"
Great Reaction 😂 I love the stark differences in the monsters we’re shown. Especially how they demonstrated you do not need to drag people to a basement forcibly to SA them. Monsters come in all forms.
Nikki, I feel you. I saw this movie by myself. None of my friends would go with me to see this. I had the movie theater to myself. I have to admit, i cussed several times.
Damn. I saw it alone in the comfort of my own home, and the part where Tess gets locked in the basement until the switch to AJ had me completely on the edge of my seat. Seeing it in an empty theatre must have been intense.
@@DerMoerpler I had to apologize to the staff, because I had popcorn everywhere. It seemed like every time I tried to eat it, I screamed and threw popcorn lol
"I'm hoping the booby monster gets him" is the number one, absolute best line that's ever been said in any reaction video. Thanks guys, needed that laugh today, fantastic reactions as always 💖👍
The first half of this film is absolutely amazing, a masterclass in terms of suspense and buildup. When Keith was screaming for help down the stairs I actually had to pause because I was watching it alone and it was too scary. Reminded of the Blair Witch Project when one of the guys goes missing and the others are in their tents and he starts screaming for help in the midde of the night and they can't find him. Second half of the film was okay but all the suspense just went out the window.
OMG.....the reaction to this movie is quite possibly the funniest thing ive seen in a long time. The look on Nikki and Steven face at the end was priceless.
The song at the end "Be My Baby" by the Ronnettes also has meaning - the lead singer was married to the notorious Phil Spector, and was kept a virtual prisoner by him in their home.
The movie is definitely a commentary on views of masculinity, generally through the lens of a woman. Keith is a genuinely good guy from what we saw, but he comes off as creepy partially because he's awkward, and also because the situation raises Tess' anxiety levels enough to cast him in a suspicious light the entire time. I'm sure most ladies have dated or at least met a similar type of guy that seems weird to the point that you could kind of picture him being someone that would lure someone into a remote house just to lock them in a sex dungeon or something. Then you have AJ and the accusations against him for rape while he tries desperately to downplay his actions to his friends and family while also shaming the victim to make her look bad. Given his actions against Tess near the end of the film, it's very obvious that he's guilty of everything he's being charged with. He had no instinct for how weird a basement full of cages and a videotape sex dungeon would be weird. It was all about him him him. There's even the homeless guy that comes shouting and running. Anyone would get choked with panic seeing some stranger running at you calling you "little girl." We have the original tenant and his perversions for tricking women into letting him into their houses so he can kidnap them, then recording them and pulling a Craster's Keep by mating his own daughter's daughters. Even the police officers are dismissive of a potential kidnapping situation because Tess is a black woman in the slums, so she must necessarily be a crackhead or a hooker, and they treat her with just about as much respect. Each man seems worse than the last, and toxic in some kind of way. In opposition, you have Tess representing a woman's view of being somewhat trapped by circumstance with a man that raises her red flags, and you have Momma in the basement that must have suffered incredible mistreatment and only wants to care for a baby and nurture someone else. She's resorted to savagery to survive, but she was willing to jump off a building to save "her baby," which does speak to the character beneath the horror. There's also the nameless starlet that was coerced into sex with AJ and managed to find the courage to speak about it publicly. Even the lady Tess interviews with has the common sense to just want Tess to be safe and shows concern for her situation rather than the dismissal that the men continually show.
Love your reaction! The perfect thing was that the trailer did not give away what this movie was really about. You basically thought that Keith was going to be the creepy barbarian. But this had two M. Night Shyamalan twists to it. I loved it. This one and Smile were great horror movies this year. Edit: Steven, I never noticed the 4:3 aspect ratio change for the 80s flashback. That was a brilliant choice. Thanks for pointing that out.
The look on Steven’s face when Keith-Travis gets his head smashed to mush is why this movie is one of the best movies to do a first time reaction to. I just love how people go from being super suspicious of Keith to immediately feeling bad for him. Same thing with AJ, at the beginning, you’re questioning if the allegations are true and as soon as he admits to his friend he did in fact assault that actress, everyone is immediately ready for him to be killed by the Mother. Ps. The music add on to the Mother’s dive from the water tower was the chef’s kiss. Lol
I've watched you two hundreds of times and I couldn't recall a time I was more excited to see your reaction. Did not disappoint! Loved every moment of this!!! You should book an Airbnb for your next anniversary, Steven :D
Saw this in theatres with zero context or idea what the movie was about. Great ride and theatre experience with the audience all laughing at the absurdity one moment and then shrieking the next lol
I didn't realize until watching your reaction that the street address for the house is "476 Barbary", which would make anyone who lives there (or who's from there) a Barbarian. Lots of movies have things you don't really get 'til the second watch, but I think this is the first time I can say that of the title.
Your reaction once again did not disappoint. The song at the end, Be My Baby by the Ronettes, was just perfect lol. The scene where Justin Long's eyes are pushed in like grapes the director actually wanted it to look even more bloody but they didn't have enough time to shoot.
Steven, you have the best horror movie watching experience ever! You get to enjoy the actual movie AND enjoy Nikki’s actual reactions to it, which in my opinion are as good as the actual movie itself. What the actual f*ck!!!
They played the start of this so well. Not only because Bill so often plays dangerous inhuman characters and the movie is called "Barbarian," but they also play on real world and movie expectations. In the real world, staying with a stranger is a big no-no, but also in movies, we come in on Tess's POV, so we have the expectation she is our protagonist and now she's meeting and being alone with a stranger when we don't know who the horror villain is. When she found the room with the camera it was like, "Oh shit, is Keith this weirdo who lures people to his abandoned house and pretends to be another person who rented it?" Then momma comes into play--and even she isn't the horror villain. The real villain of the story doesn't even interact with Tess. For all of it's weirdness, it is a well-played movie.
I have been not doing the best mentally at the moment but everytime you guys post and I watch your videos I laugh every single time. No matter what. Thank you
The title ‘Barbarian’ is so good. It’s about the barbarian-like men we see, AJ and the father. AJ looks at the old man with judgment with the tv screen reflecting his own image, not realizing he’s not a whole lot different. And poor ‘Travis with a K’, being feared for being quirky but genuinely nice, while the other two men were rather charming and as a result more socially accepted. For as many wtf moments I had in this movie, it was so good.
Such a great and interesting movie. I still can't believe it was done by the guy who co-directed and starred in that Miss March movie from way back in 2009. He did such a great job.
Oh hellz yeah! I loved this movie. I was expecting something totally different when I watched the trailer! Boy was I surprised! This was wild! This was a great horror movie. This one had me scratching my head a few times! I freaking loved this! Great reaction as always!
Barbarian is such a wild ride! Definitely one of the best films of the year! The way it played out is perfection to keep the audience on their toes. How it was promoted, the trailer, so great to not give it all away as movies tend to do these days. Your reactions to this movie was among your absolute best and so much fun to watch! So glad you enjoyed it! Y’all had me laughing so much, everything from Nikki comment on breastfeeding and later changing her opinion, to Keith with a T, oh my god you two are so much fun to watch lol All the best!
This was one of the best LIVE horror reactions, if not THE BEST! 💯💯💯💯🤪”wtf did I just watch” Definitely most creative film I’ve seen this year! Look forward to seeing what this guy does next!
I was so waiting for you all to do a reaction to this movie. I really love your reactions. When I first saw this in the theaters, I went in not seeing any trailers and it was a good thing I didn't. Going into this blind makes it so much better.
I saw this in theaters and I walked out like, what the fuck!, but in a good way. This movie is awesome, in a weird ass way. Your reactions were everything I could hope for. Love you guys.
This was one of my surprise favorites of the year! ❤ Just finished your reactions and had to comment, so the movie takes place on Barbary Street so the monster is a Barbarian by its very name! Fun little play on the word and everything! I loved your reactions to this and definitely want you both to keep them coming! For another horror recommendation, have you both seen Smile?! Would love to watch your reactions!! Happy Holidays ahead!!
I had the exact same reaction as Nikki when Keith was being murdered. First, OMG KEITH WAS A GOOD GUY WE COULDVE TRUSTED HIM! Secondly, RUN GIRL RUNNN WHAT ARE YOU DOIN STANDING THERE WATCHING HIS HEAD GET BASHED IN???
I recently watched this movie and I enjoyed a lot… the twists and turns that the story took were amazing and made me think on how we just profile people base on looks and fears… that scared me too
Watching you two watch this film was fantastic. I love the individual who was behind the writing process of this movie. Layers upon layers & not longer then 1hr 36mins so no excuse on time to take & see this masterpiece.
Great reaction also side note i find it quite ironic that justin longs character Aj who also played dairy in jeepers creepers lost his eyes in that movie but were never shown the act in Barbarian he gets his eyes put out again but we see the whole thing up close 😅😅😅
They knew exactly what they were doing when they cast Bill Skarsgård in that movie. They knew everyone would suspect him because he played Pennywise. Such a self-aware movie!
my friend does do odd things like yell in her sleep XD The worst being her yelling "NOOOOO!" and waking me from a dead sleep in fear. She had the gull to just....fall back asleep again and didn't remember XD
@Nikki & Steven React Richard Brake, the guy in the flashback that kidnapped the women, was the original Night King in Game of Thrones. There is no explanation as to why he was recast, but it's speculated that Vladimir Furdik took over because the creators made the Night King more active and Furdik was a stunt performer and stunt coordinator on the show. Furdik was the first White Walker Jon killed and then he was the Night King in the "Hardhome" episode of Season 5.
New subscriber but been watching y’all for awhile now and it’s always funny and entertaining watching movies and shows I already watched and haven’t watch with both of you !
If anyone's seen a little movie called Psycho you might realize that this is a rewriting of Psycho, where on a stormy night a woman stops looking for a place to stay--updated here to a Air BnB, complete with Mother in the basement and a POV switch at the midpoint. In Psycho the POV switch is from Marion to the villain, Norman Bates. Similarly, here the switch is from Tess to the villain, Justin Long's character. The finale is a reworking of the ending of Vertigo where the a nun scares a woman into falling off the top of a bell tower, to her death. Going up the water tower here makes zero story sense here, except in that it's a reference to Vertigo. But what really makes no sense in this movie, beyond the superhuman strength of Mother and the closing doors, is the moment where Tess has finished her job interview and isn't simply driving home. There's never any reason to go back to the house. She's only going back to get her luggage and there's no reason she wouldn't take her luggage with in her vehicle. So the whole of the 2nd and 3rd Acts is built on a horrible logic gap.
This movie, when I first watched it, barely a person watched it yet…..so there were no spoilers, and the utter shock and disbelief of the changing story was insane. What a great movie
P.S.: By the way ... I don't understand the creeped out reaction in the beginning. "He was too nice"? Really? Guess you can never win. If your are not nice, you are creepy. If you are nice, you are creepy too. And if you are understandably awkward in an awkward situation you are creepy square. What's wrong with people? At least he wasn't the one who dug around in her personal stuff and photographed her ID. She did that to him. She was the creep.
actually hated this movie, this movie had the worst character development, didn't care about any of the characters. It was so random and not scary at any point. I wasted money on this movie at the theater and all I see is positive online. maybe people just want to have something that "catches you off gaurd" when it really felt so chaotic.
The song AJ plays in his car is a legit earworm: "Riki Tiki Tavi" by Donovan. Highly recommend listening, if you don't mind going insane when it's still playing in your head a week from now.

Thank you
So glad you guys watched this! One of my favs of the year
Nikki’s face at the end of the reaction was so on point!! 😂😂😂
Lol everything you said was my exact reaction 😂. Was waiting for you guys to watch this one and you didn’t disappoint 😂
You killed me with the Superman theme I could barely breathe. I was laughing so hard.
@RyanJames1995 yeah, he was on the whitest kids you know, the comedy sketch show in the mid 2000's
💯💯💯💯🤪”wtf did I just watch”
Definitely most creative film I’ve seen this year! Look forward to seeing what this guy does next!
Recently watched this too! Expected the scares but the laughs with AJ and the tape measure were totally unexpected!!
Nikki's concern for Justin Long's character flossing too hard was so out of left field, I loved it. It's so much fun to watch her watch horror.
I was so waiting for you all to do a reaction to this movie. I really love your reactions.
When I first saw this in the theaters, I went in not seeing any trailers and it was a good thing I didn't. Going into this blind makes it so much better.
"Now I'm rooting for the boobie monster to get him" 🤣 I spit tea all over myself
Yep, after seeing this I can confirm that you guys have the best reaction channel on YT, love you both !!
I saw this in theaters and I walked out like, what the fuck!, but in a good way. This movie is awesome, in a weird ass way. Your reactions were everything I could hope for. Love you guys.
This was one of my surprise favorites of the year! ❤
Just finished your reactions and had to comment, so the movie takes place on Barbary Street so the monster is a Barbarian by its very name!
43:31 OMG the superman music I'm dead, you just killed me :)
I LOVE this movie, I’m so happy you guys are watching this, I just know this reaction is going to be good!!
You guys killed me with the John Williams theme... I'll love you both forever for that ❤❤❤
Great reaction also side note i find it quite ironic that justin longs character Aj who also played dairy in jeepers creepers lost his eyes in that movie but were never shown the act in Barbarian he gets his eyes put out again but we see the whole thing up close 😅😅😅
"is this some fucking jeepers creepers" lmao it's funny because justin longs also the main guy in that
The Superman music when the monster dove for Tess had me dyyiiiiiing 😂
The director Zach Creggor was a member of the comedy troupe The Whitest Kids You Know, and also co directed and was in the comedy Miss March.
Love ur reaction . I remember when this first released on max and i immediately watched it on the morning of my c section 😂 unforgettable
They knew exactly what they were doing when they cast Bill Skarsgård in that movie. They knew everyone would suspect him because he played Pennywise. Such a self-aware movie!
This movie was insane, can't wait to see y'all's reaction.
my friend does do odd things like yell in her sleep XD The worst being her yelling "NOOOOO!" and waking me from a dead sleep in fear. She had the gull to just....fall back asleep again and didn't remember XD
Omg this was the best reaction video 🤣🤣🤣🤣
You guys are so fun to watch!!
Steven, that Mustafar shirt is awesome!!
This movie had me on the edge of might seat low-key. Pretty cool horror movie
Yes! Watched this live with you a couple days ago and watching it again now! Keep up the great content
i'm so glad you guys enjoyed it, its one of the best horror movies that came out in 2022 imo
Finally I couldn't wait for y'all to do this
New subscriber but been watching y’all for awhile now and it’s always funny and entertaining watching movies and shows I already watched and haven’t watch with both of you !
This is the funniest reaction watching Nikki scream through it. Cracked me up. You two are the best.
Been waiting for this one!!! I love when Nikki watches scary things 🤣
30:14. “Oooo that was good. She’s alive, thank God”
This movie should have been called “People Investigating Things They Have No Right To Be Investigating”
i'm glad you guys watched this so i didn't have to. a scary movie filtered through your reaction works just fine for me. 😄
The first half of the movie is amazing, the tension building and mystery about it. The second half...
Yeah the buildup in the beginning was great. But you’re right… the second half kinda lost it for me.
Woot woot! Was waiting for you two to react to this :)
You guys had me laughing so hard when AJ threw her off. Your reaction was priceless lol
I loved Barbarian and how it switched the tone midway through. Kinda reminded me of Malignant, which I found surprisingly fun too!
I was waiting for this reaction! loved it
Keith's duvet trick only works if you're 6'5 Bill Skarsguard.
I’m so glad you guys reacted to this! One of the best horror movies from this year
I loved this movie. This was the reaction I’ve been waiting for!! Y’all are the fukkin best!
I didn’t love this movie but it’s fun rewatching it with you guys.
actually hated this movie, this movie had the worst character development, didn't care about any of the characters. It was so random and not scary at any point. I wasted money on this movie at the theater and all I see is positive online. maybe people just want to have something that "catches you off gaurd" when it really felt so chaotic.
@@Retroooze75I thought the movie SMILE was better. Jmo
This movie was insanely fun and entertaining. I love it so much. This was a great reaction friends. 🤣🤣🤣🥰
I don't think I've heard Nikki said bitch this many times in one reaction before. Loved it.
The fucking superman theme had me creasing up omg 😂😂
This movie makes me to never ever get an Airbnb.
Justin long was easily the best part of this movie. Especially the measuring
I love that I got a VRBO ad while watching this.
The song AJ plays in his car is a legit earworm: "Riki Tiki Tavi" by Donovan. Highly recommend listening, if you don't mind going insane when it's still playing in your head a week from now.
My favorite character in this movie was Travis, never knew if he was good or bad, Travis has those crazy eyes :)
That reaction was far better than the movie itself
The most I’ve heard Nikki talk in any of these reactions lmao 😂😭
