Can someone please explain Falcon vs Viper. I know it was Viper when it was in testing, but as a kid the F-16 was always a Fighting Falcon. I know that the V variant is called Viper, but did pilots always call them Vipers? CW let us know!
Pilots have called it the Viper since its inception. Now only nerds and Eagle Drivers call it the Fighting Falcon. Later, LockMart created a new variant and called it the Viper officially. #TheMoreYouKnow
Was called viper after the Viper starfighter in the 1978 TV series Battlestar Galactica due to the resemblance.
@@CWLemoine >:(
Another roy, holy crap thought I was the only one. All these years I've been calling them the fighting falcon, nerd.
D Models and B Models “two seaters” are not easy to find, Evan back then. They found two. Cool.
I love that two jeeps wouldn't make it through the 'Hades Wall-of-Fire', so they send a motorcycle with a sidecar next.
Faster acceleration through the flames as opposed to an armored keep.
They sent a sidecar cos it’s impervious to Hades😂😂😂
Lol... I love observations like this.
It's possible the motorcycle was supposed to go 1st. The editing in this movie is awful.
They just didnt see what happened to the jeeps that side of the firewall.
Back in the days of VCRs and no Internet this was a gem to young aviation enthusiasts.
Agree
Yes!
Still is a gem to young aviation enthusiasts.
I’m a university biologist. Watching you review these movies is soothing for me. Because I feel the same way watching the news about corona. 👊
Strike Eagle? Man, this has more bombs then a freaking B-1!
You crack me up. Being a retired SERE Instructor in the US Navy this is why my lady can not watch military movies with me.
My father went into the USAF as an Aircraft Mechanic, and he's always commenting "How much fuel do these planes have?!?" lol
I can't take him to the movies because he talks through the whole thing, tearing it apart. I keep telling him I don't mind ripping it apart... just do it *AFTER* the movie. lol
@Will Kelly salty Seaman already did that. It's good video as well
my wife is the same way between deployment and lanes, we can not watch a military movie or police movie without me yelling out oh just died, oh dead, oops dead when clearing a building lol
Doug- "Im taking her to Mach 1"
CW- "No not with 800lbs your not!"
LOL DIED LAUGHING!
No joke, at full afterburner at low altitude, 800 pounds would be gone in about 45 seconds. Even if he was only flying at full military power, you're looking at 6-10 minutes depending on altitude (and 10 minutes might be stretching it). Having said that, the F-16 *is* capable of supercruise (barely!) with a clean loadout, and at this point he's got to be pretty close to that. So he *might* be able to take her to Mach 1 without afterburners, but he wouldn't be able to stay there long.
Can it even use all 800lbs? E.g. Like the -14 has 300lbs that can't be pumped from the tanks.
@@keencolios591 He's got a catch can bro, catches out unburnt fuel and sends it back around. 😂
Anything is possible with the power of Rock n Roll!
@@SpearM3064 Right, is his dad gonna get out with a gas can? I don't think it would last even 45 seconds at his altitude. It would probably flare out seconds after he put the smash down and you'd see that nifty "Turbine Failure" LOL
Man I watched this movie at least 100 times as a kid and I owned the soundtrack cassette. I could recite the whole movie by memory. Thanks for doing this one.
"we'll fight em in the air"... "that's usually how it works"... lol
"you'd think Dad would take over at some point"
Only one of them has been shot down, just saying 😂
Plus dad has a sucking chest wound and/or perforated axillary artery. Not to mention the whole "in shock" issue he'd be experiencing.
Jonathan Farrow It can't be easy to fly with a bullet in you. Granted I'll have to admit, I've never tried.
@@immikeurnot sgt Sixta don't care bout no sucking chest wooooooound, just as long as the moooostash hairs are within the corners of yer mouth areas according to the grooooooooming standards and yer shirt tails aren't hanging out when traipsing around on the deck.
Yeah Dad was shot down, so why would we give him control over the Eagle ?
His dad was a crappy Pilot
Lmao I love the actual mig-23 silhouette on the X-wing scanner.
My brother was number one in his class at Vance during the Viet Nam war and after that was an instructor. His dad was killed when he was two at the Army Ammunition Plant in an explosion when he was two so I'm 15 years older. He would take me out and sit me in the seat of a T-38 at eight years old and I was in heaven. Back then he would buzz our town (McAlester, OK) all the time when that was legal (or actually the Air Force didn't find out about it). It's pretty cool to be in the second grade in a small town with your brother buzzing it and doing afterburner climbs and aileron rolls over your town about once a month. Back then, it was painted white and called the "white rocket".
So, I love your videos.
As a retired 462/2W1 (Weapons) I can say we also hold this movie in high honors. The visionary in flight reloading, reconfigs, that scrolling info panel, and of course a kid with long hair casually walking around the flightline. Its all timeless classic.
"if you're listenin to this, we suck" lmfao I thought the same thing watching this movie
Tom Cruise wanted to fly an F-18 himself for Top Gun, and the Navy told him "HELL NO" Also, quit ruining my movies, Mover!!! lol
I heard he specifically wanted the tomcat for the original top gun, before he agreed to do the movie, was in a making of doc...
I wouldn't be surprised the insurance companies would be the ones to veto that. Because Tom's ego writes checks his body can't cash, and someone's got to remind him of this fact :P
@@reiviloonk3849 Insurance companies? The military would probably veto it first before it would get to the insurance.
@@iad77 Tom Cruise was just a beginning actor back when the original TopGun was made. It was only his 7th movie and Top Gun was his first lead role in a Blockbuster.
He wasn't in any position to make any demands.
It was the producers that wanted to do Top Gun , because they heard of the actual Topgun.. and the Navy was on board. So what other plane then the F14 could there have been in that era?? There were no bugs at Topgun back then
@@stijnvandamme76 I think Gamebreaker was talking about the upcoming TopGun sequel movie. The trailers show Maverick in a Hornet for that one. Or he got the two movies confused somehow...
Dammit Mover, and here in all my 42 years I believed in this movie. Actually thought a punk teenager could steal an 50+ million dollar aircraft and fly into enemy territory and go save my father. Let alone flying in a fighter jet with my father.... sigh. Now seriously, I forgot all about this movie, thank you for bringing it back! Your comments and insights were the best! Love your books too!
My dad actually built one of the kfir models for this movie. Despite all the 80ness..i love this movie lol
LOL Doug has so many bombs it's like he is playing Ace Combat.
Megalodon64 Amount of bombs they were dropping he should have taken a B1
Completely realistic !!! Don’t mess with Doug dude. Them is fighting words. 🤨😝
Console commands are awesome 😀
In fact, Doug is in the back seat and Chuck Norris is flying. When Doug landed Chuck jumped from the plane and is flying RC while running home...
About that onetime he Fired a missile whilst taxing though..

This Viper has it all, the gun of an A-10 , A/A MSLs of an Eagle , the alpha of the Hornet , just awsome!!
I haven’t laughed that much in ages Mover. Your sense of humour whilst teaching us about Vipers is incredible.

The footage of the planes and the hud footage was what won me over when I first saw this movie as a kid. Like you said they did some great stuff for the time. The little stuff to help explain and visualize things to folks who might not know are... what they are.

I second that .. motion carried
I third, motion is moved to the group, no objections, motion passed!
And I shall bang said gavel thusly...
I would think the mig 29 would get BRRRTED
Well, if an A-10 could magically get behind a MiG-29 and if you for some reason had the A-10 already configured with a big air to air loadout, it could spam enough AIM-9s to take anything out. The A-10 might lack in speed but it sure does have stores.
Oh, they're doing push-ups. HILARIOUS !!!! Great commentary !!!
i am pretty sure Doug now has more air to air gun kills in a jet aircraft than have ever been recorded in history, he is a true ace lol

You just got a subscriber! I always wanted to be a fighter pilot. This comment section is also hilarious.
Funny quick story. While at the mall a Navy recruiter grabbed me up and started their spiel. He asked what I wanted to do and I said fighter pilot. He asked how were my grades I said Bs (I lied) they set up an appointment at the office. The next day, they picked me up and brought me to the office. Once they found out I had terrible vision the recruiter said that I could be a navigator or fly another type of aircraft. I said no and told him I was actually a C student.
He turned bright red and ended it with "have a good day". I said " so nobidy is gonna drop me back home"? He replied "have a nice day" didn't even look up from the papers on his desk.
Much props to combat pilots and airmen in general. One if my Fraternity brothers just got his own small plane and I couldn't be any prouder.
Doug "Iron Eagle" Masters scorecard all in one single mission.
Shot down 3 enemy aircraft (2 by gun)
Destroyed 1 enemy aircaft on the ground
Shot down 2 enemy attack helicopters by gun
Destroyed 2-5 enemy anti-aircraft guns
Destroyed 2 towed enemy air-to-ground missile launchers
Destroyed 3 enemy vehicles
Destroyed an enemy radio tower
Destroyed an enemy air traffic control tower.
Destroyed an enemy fuel depot.
Successfully rescued 1 American POW
1 felony count grand theft aero :)
and all that with less stores than targets. Talk about recycling.
'Murica :eagle tears up::
and he launches rockets instead of MK82s
So, six kills.
Enough to be an ace.
Enemy aircraft on the ground count as air-to-air kills. . .that's how Chuck Yeager got Ace status in one day, he hit a row of German fighters on the ground.
As a retired CPO, your snark is most appreciated! I chuckled a lot!

"Where'd your dad get the helmet"
I spit my drink
Anonymous Post, well...he was being held in a prison...😳
Doug is clearly flying a TARDIS (it's bigger on the inside than on the outside), because not only does his dad get the helmet, but the fighter magically transforms from an F-16A/C (single seater) to an F-16B/D (two seater). EDIT: I think they deliberately stole two F-16B/D because either Doug or Chappie was going to have to pick up Doug's dad.
Love how the dad is shot in the arm. Sees the rescue plane land. Makes no effort to move towards it. Just sits there with an inconvenienced look on his face while staring at his arm.
I had no idea how much joy these two videos would bring me. Thanks for what you do!
"Not as good as Top Gun"
8-year-old me certainly agreed, but when I got older I came to like Iron Eagle more than Top Gun overall. The characters are easier for me to latch onto and sympathize with than those in Top Gun I guess, and I just find the whole premise of Iron Eagle more enjoyable, despite being massively less believable. Top Gun definitely has better production value all around though... better sound, better original score (though IE had some awesome licensed music in it), better visual effects, better cinematography, etc. Ultimately it's down to personal preference, as with all entertainment media. I certainly don't have anything against someone liking Top Gun more, and I'll always think fondly of both films :)
When you're a kid and you watch this, you believe ANYTHING is possible.
FlyingMercury and also that killing some Egyptians is nothing and no one cares. They are not humans, just a bunch of targets for the army of freedom...
yeah you watch it as a kid and few decades later you drop bombs on Iraqi weddings, cuz anything is possible;)

I’m a firefighter I react the exact same way when there’s fire fighting or first responder scenes in movies. LOL
Random trivia: In the famous scene in The Shining when Jack Nicholson hacks through the door with an axe, the production initially used a lightweight stunt door designed to easily break apart- assuming most actors wouldn't be able to cut through a real door. Jack Nicholson had been a volunteer firefighter and his proper axe technique apparently destroyed the stunt door so quickly that they ended up putting a real door back in its place so the scene would look correct.
Watching you analyze one of my favorite childhood movies was like watching a police show with my father.
Doug: "I'm a better pilot than anyone here because I blew up dozens of targets on the simulator!"
Chappy: And yet you've never done an in-flight refueling?
They made a pretty good movie with the $299.00 budget they had to work with.
Not to mention Iron Eagle had the secret weapon that the enemy didn't have. A Walkman filled with American Rock Music.

Mover, you had me ROFL’ing throughout both parts! I saw the movie when it first came out at the Patrick AFB Base Theater and it was so cheesy back, but it sure make just some hilarious entertainment. I even went back with some buddies to watch it again a few days later. What Memories... Your sarcasm is spot-on! I also noted back then when he fired the Maverick while taxiing on the runway near the end. I guess he must have disabled the WOW switch when he helped his dad into the cockpit. Oh, and I’m guessing that his dad’s helmet was just sitting on the seat along with the boarding ladder too. Also, looking at the ACES-II pitot-like tubes above and behind their heads were just a casted/forged block of aluminum that was supposed to replicate those tubes/structures. Anyway, lots of laughs here - loved it!

I didn't catch those statements, but I did catch where he said they were D's, then corrected to B's. B and D are the 2 seat training versions of the A and C variants.
Okay. I'll go back to my scotch and shut up now.
There are 1 seat and 2 seat variants. For take off and the flight they used single seat config. For the rescue, through Hollywood magic turned it into a 2 seat trainer.

One of my favorite movies from the 80s. Love the action. Love the soundtrack. How can you not? It had Queen.
I watched this movie over and over as a little boy even though I probably shouldn't have. I grew up at Robbins AFB so being a fighter pilot was my dream. I went to see Thunderbirds and blue Angels a number of times, read all the books, had my military fighter planes memorized like my friends had their cars memorized. Life didn't give me the military career I dreamed of. After alcohol, drugs, and being a bad citizen overall took it's toll I had an epiphany 3 months before my 18th birthday that was very humbling. I failed and those dreams were impossible because of bad life choices. But I found Christ, found love, repaired my life the best I could and ended up avoiding 20 yrs of bloody wars in the middle East because I didn't sign up. My grandfather would have loved to see me sign up though. Actually he wanted me to go Marines like him. I wanted to fly planes but he wanted me to be a chopper pilot. I'm grateful for the military and I'm also grateful God didn't allow for me personally to join it may have saved my life.
I remember watching this when I was young and I noticed the same mistakes. Then again I love aviation too.👍🛫👍
The F-16 is 76-1-5. Doug Masters has 5 kills and his dad, “The Colonel” has the 1 loss?
actually ..does the backseater count for the kill? his dad has 2 kills at the start of the movie..and is riding backseat for 3 more.. would that put him as an Ace? Also Doug gets 4 MIGs , 1 more on the ground (does that count too?) and 2 helos.. so he definitily would be an ace
