    Part 1:
    rumble.com/v2kgu3a-firefox-mover-ruins-movies-part-one.html
This is part 2 of 2. Where is part 1, you ask? Well, RUclips Copyright botched the counter notification process on the erroneous content ID claim. They rejected the counter notification on Part 1 but forwarded Part 2 (this video). Part 2 was released. Part 1 is blocked and cannot be reinstated. They refuse to reconsider, despite this video now being approved. Their only advice now is to wait out the copyright strike. Time to start looking for alternative platforms for Mover Ruins Movies.

“Coup de grace” popular fighter pilot trope of the 70’s and 80’s. “ you have been a worthy adversary, I shall now finish you” Post Vietnam US movies were pretty anti military or at least cynical. This trope elevated air to air fighter pilots to status of chivalrous knights of the sky, again harkening back to the ‘honorable’ air to air fighter combat days of WW1 & 2.

He's saluting Gant's abilities as an equal warrior. There was no warrior's honour or accomplishment in killing Gant when he was vulnerable either. So whilst he had a moment, he slipped in beside him and gave him a honorary salute for the fight he put up before he goes in for the kill.

A week or two after 9/11, all the airports had military guards -- Army, mostly likely reservists -- posted all throughout the passener spaces in airports. I had to fly one ot those weekends and I recalled the scene in this movie where he's on the subway in Moscow when he looks to his right and is watching the Russian guy with the machine gun guarding the subway platform. I got REAL mad at the American military posting guards in airports because, 1) I knew it was just a stunt of "security theater", designed to make Amercians think they're being protected. And 2) America doens't do that; Russia DOES do that but not America. We're not Russia! So like you I had a Firefox moment.

I have this weird memory about this movie, I _think_ it's true? Back in the 80s, a couple guys who worked on the special effects for Firefox came to speak at the Apple computer club that I belonged to. I think they worked on the computer controlled camera rigs. They showed us pictures of a radio-controlled Firefox airplane that actually flew. It was about 6-8 feet long I think (based on a picture of the plane standing on its tail next to a person), and they were trying to use it for some of the flying sequences. Unfortunately the operator of the plane got confused by all the snowy terrain wherever they were, and he flew it into the side of a mountain, destroying the plane before they got any usable footage. So it never appeared in the movie.

This was sometime mid 70s and there was a competition between him and Burt Reynolds as to who was the number one movie star . Anyway down in the lower 48 he needed bodyguards because of his popularity . He came up to do some fishing . And a bunch of bodyguards were with him in an undisclosed small Alaskan town . They stopped at the town's shopping mall in the middle of a busy weekday . They got out of the trucks and all the locals IGNORED Clint Eastwood . That's why he has that cabin up here .

The Russian pilot didn’t want to kill someone who couldn’t fight back, so we made sure that Clint was awake before resuming the fight.

At the time, this was such a cool film. The 1st time it was on UK TV back in the 80s, I was still at school and the following day we were all drawing aeroplanes. No matter the class, we just brushed English/maths/science/history to one side and drew planes lol.

It was a good movie for the 80s. Cold war intrigue, Clint Eastwood beating commies, a fun video game to play, what's not to like? Also who knew Cliff Clavin was in the Navy before he went to the postal service in Boston?

Hey man I work with a pilot who has served with Gonky and thought that was pretty cool, such a small world. The pilot I work with, flew the F/A-18. I got to pick his brain about it as I want to enlist as a pilot in either air force or navy. I currently work in Huey though.

Down the canyon, if the lead plane can get the shockwave going it might succeed in putting the trailing plane in whiteout conditions so he'll fly into the wall. Nope, that didn't work. The sequence looks really cool, though.
Gant (Eastwood's character) had a PTSD event and lost control of the plane. The Russian pilot saw he was out of control, disengaged, waited until Gant got it back under control and ... you good dude? Ok ... re-engaging.
Utterly ridiculous, of course. Gotta love 80s flicks.
The flying scenes rock. No one remembers anything else.

I watched a documentry about Clint Eastwood. He is discussing this film at one point, and talking to a man about how they lost control of one of the RC models they were testing in Southern California, and it caused a minor accident as it crashed into the freeway.
Also, Clint Eastwood had one of his first roals, as the Squadren fighter pilot lead in the movie, "Tarantula"

What "that" was was Gant having a PTSD flashback. Then he dropped his wheels in a surrender gesture, which the pursuing pilot acknowledged with a salute. Gant snapped out of it at the last moment and evaded.
Ah, and this film was pre-CG. Practical models rotoscoped int background plates.

The flight helmets created for the film were modified Gentex HGU-20P “clamshells”.
You’d be correct that failed all kinds of flight and shorty runs. They were considered too heavy in neg g rolls and the was a blind spot in the peripheral vision.
I say “created for the film” because there were some post-test runs made and Clint’s costuming/art dept. had two configured with the mics and tubing.
Eventually, the last of these skid lids were reconfigured yet again with dual mics and a red, white and blue color scheme for use on some of the early crew missions on the space shuttle.
Those helmets sell for thousands of dollars to collectors- I don’t think anyone has come across these two used in the movie though.

I loved this film as a kid. They actually had a laser disk video arcade game that I dumped endless quarters into. Now I spend all of my money on DCS! Ha! This is actually based on a really, really good book by Craig Thomas and even has a sequel "Firefox Down" Both are full of espionage and cool fighter pilot stuff, but mostly very heavy on Russian KGB, GRU intrigue. There's even a book in which Mitchell Gant I think ends up stealing a Russian helicopter called "Winter Hawk". All really great reads! Thanks for doing this. I really enjoyed the video!

Given the date this was made and probably not even with the Top Gun budget (even that used a LOT of movie trickery as well) this is pretty cool.
It's quite difficult after decades of cgi to get back in that mindset. In a probably not intended way, the Top Gun Maverick comment was a compliment.

When I watched "Firefox" I was a kid who was used to Clint Eastwood playing "Dirty Harry" and various cowboy types, so I thought it was cool to see him play a pilot that's also a spy. And now here we are, 41 years later, and can't help but point out that, even with my limited understanding of aviation, there were quite a few... creative liberties that were taken with this movie! This is a Cold War era movie based on the fear of the Soviet Union leaping ahead of the USA and I find it interesting to note that certain aspects, such as the neuralink control, still haven't become reality... that the public knows of!
