Your walk through with this particular tax software was easy to follow along with so I decided to try it and it was just as smooth as you demonstrated I gathered my paper work including a 1099 composite investment, which I was not familiar with but in your video help me to easily sail through, long story short my federal and state returns have both just been accepted, so thank you!

Not to late for me. Thanks Logan. I tried it for first time last year. I liked it. I am also self employed. I'll be using it again this year. I don't make a lot and last year my Ssa started. So I'll see how it goes this year.
It does have a pretty good interface. And yes if you're self-employed it's definitely cheaper than having to pay for the TurboTax Self-Employed Edition!!

Hey Logan! I agree that it kind of sucks that they charge for the state return and I understand what you’re saying about how are they trying to capture those folks whose tax situation will become more complicated. But I have found that the advantage is someone who’s tax situation is already more complicated still qualifies for a free return. The only thing I’ve found in free tax USA that couldn’t be done in the free version was a statutory employee. You can do schedule C business returns, schedule a rental property etc. in the free version where in the other software you would have to pay for deluxe or whatever they call it. I’ve been using this software for about 10 years and find it much more user-friendly than some of the others. I don’t mind having to choose additional types of income I may have when they go to that list of income types. I want to say thank you for reviewing the software I really did want to see what you thought of it. I’ve use them all, including H&R Block‘s in office software, and I find tax USA to be pretty intuitive. Thanks again for taking the time to do this!
I must admit, it is much more user-friendly than I thought it would be. When I saw "free" in the title I was preparing for something very difficult to use, but I was actually pleasantly surprised by the tax return preparation process. Yes, having to pay for state is a downside, but I understand it's a business and they need to make money. Interesting to know about the inability to do statutory employee in FreeTaxUSA -- I did not know that.
As a DoorDasher FreeTaxUSA was free plus $14.99 state.
Using Turbo Tax: 1099 $79 Federal + State additional fee. Please compare the facts before trusting any RUclipsr.
My incomplete 1040, paper returns filing put through freetaxusa, so excited and happy was e-file on software.

Turbo tax charged me 90 when i tried to enter my 10099 form while freetaxusa just charged me a flat fee of 15.

I like it does not charge to add self-employment income, whereas Turbotax charges a fee.
Yes that's true! I probably wouldn't use FreeTaxUSA if I had a very simple tax return, but it sure is less expensive than paying for TurboTax Self-Employed Edition!

Great video and thorough. I like Free Smart Tax because I’m self employed and all the other apps charge way more for schedule C so I still save a lot by paying $15 for state filing.

I filed 2 different ppl returns in my family recently. 1 with FreeTax and 1 with HR Block. I did the Freetax 1 day ahead of the HR return and the HR Return came back in 7 days. The FreeTax is still being waited on....Oh yeah and the IRS accepted the FreeTax before I even started the HR return that next day.

When the program says "download" previous year Tax, where does it get that info. I used a tax preparer last year so what do I do??

yes, you do have to pay for state tax.
Hello, Please help me. I have a question, I really hope you can answer me soon, If my son was a dependent last year on my taxes and I received the $1200 Stimulus and the other stimulus, this year my son is 24 so he is going to file taxes separate as a single, should He answer yes to the question: Did you receive an Economic Impact Payment (EIP) in 2020?
If I answer no, since he did not received, his refund increase, Is he entitled to any stimulus from last year, this year? Even though I received it and he was my dependent?
Also he received a Retirement Account Statement 403b plan vanguard Retirement 2060 Inv, is it necessary to put any of that info from the statement in the income tax?

Just did my taxes with FreeTaxUSA and the truth is you are not able to down load the state file pdf!!!
Their website says: just continue and you be able to download it on the end but its not true.
When you not select the charge for the state a window shows later and asks you "you are sure you don't like to prepare and e-file state" or so. And yes, you are not able to download or print the state file until you do so.

Good general overview but not to take a tax return to completion gives one an inaccurate view of FTU; for example I owe money, and the site gives you different ways to take care of payment. im an investor with multiple taxable accounts within Fidelity and filling in cost basis and proceeds and wash sales is streamlined. Yes, having information uploaded from Fidelity would have been nice but there is value in one doing it manually. Thanks for having our imagined filer having stocks! I actually really enjoyed doing my taxes through them, paying taxes..not so much. No more Turbo Tax for me!
I field free tax usa it was free and simple,as I had to file to get my 600 stimulus check,also got an email from irs that my filing was accepted

This show pertains to tax year 2020? I'm trying to use the 2021 version and as far as I can tell it's free, for my State too. Half way through the process they're asking for information regarding 2019 (it's now 2022).
Damn, they sent me to a 2019 tax form !!?? There's no way I logged into another account - was a complete misdirection!
We know we wont have same info as who you are using to fill it in. Talking 14 mins in each section explaining that simple fact made me fast forward thru most of video. But the info is useful thank you for assistance.

I guess it makes sense for more complicated returns where one would have to pay more than $14.95 at the other guys. I was pleasantly surprised by FreeTaxUSA's interface though.

Funny I went to turbo tax like normal and answered all the same questions and was getting 0 back! I tried this free usa and got something couple hun at least God knows we all need something for income.....I mean I'm gonna be 52 been back with mother and father since 2015 but then my dad died outta the blue.So I stayed take care of mother,even though she said the opposite...lol..then lost my pt job driving senior citizen twice a month and get SSI only made 1,655 for the year...Then Biden and COVID ""

I have to pay 34.00 dollars for making 1,655 for the year...but I guess stupid me I electronically signed third party agreement....it has a different acct.# where you put banking info.mine is the only one that I gave for dd?IT LOOKS LEGIT...is this right....IRS has my federal scheduled to be sent....but on freetaxusa worksheet on my taxes...its not my acct.# I did agree to 34.00 dollars to come out of my acct.

Your statement about paying for state on taxfreeusa is NOT 100% true. Its free state and federal if you make under 41k. Taxfreeusa has a much simpler and less spam site than turbotax. They're also more honest on what you be charged. Also, Turbotax isnt free if you doing anything more than a w2.

Pros: works when you file your FIRST years taxes
Cons: Will give you an anxiety attack when trying to fill ANYTHING out after your first year. NO option to file for the year.. instead, you click on a form to submit, then submit it, only to learn it adds to your PREVIOUS year.
WHY didn’t they just put a damn button on the homepage when you sign in that says in huge-ass letters: FILE FOR TAXES FOR 2022????

This dude complaining about the UI like crazy and saying senseless negative things about the Free site - Bias you want people to tax with you conflict of interest. Its a great source to get taxes done on your own. The more you do it the better you'll get at it.
