    Will Turbo Tax still give me the free option if I select "Own a home"?, even though it's paid off and won't claim interest? If not, can I select the renting option to avoid having to pay an upgrade fee?

    this works great for simple returns. Wish the import feature worked for my investment forms I trade futures, options and stocks.. Way too many forms

    • @SmartFamilyMoney
      @SmartFamilyMoney  Год назад +1

      Yeah, that's definitely the one drawback. I did try FreeTaxUSA's w-2 import feature and it was not perfect. It imported a few numbers wrong so by the time I fixed it, it probably took me the same amount of time to type it. I have a ton of forms myself, but I don't mind doing a little typing to save $100+.

    why does FT-USA require a phone# and carrier info to register?

  • @AlbertoPerez-tm4tj
    @AlbertoPerez-tm4tj Год назад +2

    Free tax USA says that chosing Pro Support for $49.99 would provide phone support and it was a lie. Also it doesn't allow me to cancel it to a cheaper option. They lie. Now they answer my concern with this: Our phone appointments are full up to the deadline, but we are happy to help here or through our live chat service. And the live chat service is not working properly either. This is tedious.

    I have a home in Florida, can I still use freetax usa and enter my mortgage and tax information to get the best return or is it just for simple returns?

    • @SmartFamilyMoney
      @SmartFamilyMoney  Год назад +1

      FreeTaxUSA can handle that! It can do multi-state returns and partial-year residency returns. I have not run into a situation that FreeTaxUSA can't handle. It's a no-frills interface but it's full-featured when it comes to tax forms, etc.

      No, not necessarily. A lot of us with mortgage interest aren't going to use it anyway (because the standard deduction is a lot better than itemizing for a lot of folks)

    My broker charged me stock hard to borrow fee of $6000 , I spoke to my broker and finally refund the $6000 back to my account. Now received from my broker 1099B that has the $6000 refund money as MISC income of $6000. Actually I do not have any income wort of $6000. How to resolve the issue in Turbo tax and where to enter. My broker said the Tax Pro can offset you MISC income to $0. Please let me know how to offset the MISC income.

    I have not watched your video yet. My struggle has been since I’m an independent contractor and a lot of my gigs I do not get 1099s since I don’t earn at $600 with them so on free tax USA how do you add that income. I can’t seem to get through the steps properly as well as I do have a 1099 and I couldn’t get to the step to claim my mileage any help is greatly appreciated. And yes I paid the extra to have them assist me but well let’s just say I’m not sure their assistance is that great

    • @SmartFamilyMoney
      @SmartFamilyMoney  Год назад +2

      Income that isn't on a 1099 is added when you do the Schedule C. When you get to the self employment section, it'll ask you for 1099s and then the first question will be "Enter any amount of gross receipts or sales for the business that weren't reported to you on Form 1099-NEC or Form 1099-MISC"

    • @SmartFamilyMoney
      @SmartFamilyMoney  Год назад

      Also in that business section, you'll see a part called "vehicle expenses" and that's where you'll enter mileage.

      Turbotax and H&R Block have apps but I don't love them (they're kinda slow and clunky). FreeTaxUSA can be used on a mobile browser (Safari or Chrome, etc) and it's pretty nice to use. I'm also releasing a review today of Cash App Taxes and that's another good mobile option.

      They won't e-file me this year and error out my child tax credit. One screen says I can claim it, the very next screen says I don't not qualify for it. Makes zero sense. I absolutely do qualify so my child. Just filing a SSA-1099, so very simple. Yet it won't file.
      Edit: Tax law change for 2022. We are back to the old way of doing things. No earned income, no tax credit. Stick it to the man any way the can!

      I prefer FreeTaxUSA over Cash App Taxes but it does cost around $15 for state taxes (free for federal). If you have very simple taxes and don't want to pay anything, Cash App Taxes is probably the better choice.
