On "My Car Story" we're in the West Suburbs of Chicago on 6-19-22.
We're looking at a 1986 Ford Mustang GT Convertible in Jalapeno Red Paint with the Factory 5.0 Liter V8 engine, and a 5 speed manual transmission.
The car's Owner is Chris Oros. Chris’s had this car since 2020. Chris shares that this is his third “Fox Body” Mustang, a 1984, a 1991, and this which he shares he was looking for many years to find.
ENJOY! Авто/Мото

Everyone wanted one of these back in high school.
Agreed.
My first car was a 67 fastback, it was a 6 but hey we gotta start somewhere.
I liked this series at the time because the windows were large enough that one didn't feel like one was sitting in a bathtub. I like this clean styling better than today's.
Hi LoveIsAll, Happy to read you appreciate this styling, Lou
I bought the 1985 Red with the White Conv. top and Red interior manual stick. 5.0 High Output. Had 40K original miles in 1990 I paid $5,500. Power everything and A/C Cassette player. Perfect Condition. I always got offers lot more than I paid. After losing storage I let it go for $9,500 in 1995. I put 15K on it and loved every mile. Thanks for the memories. I have lots of photos but no videos.
Hi gene978, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
That was Ford's first World Car type Mustang series. That European touch made it the most sober Mustang ever. That instrument panel is absolutely cool
Hi Al Dente, Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Back in the mid 80s these were as good as any & w/ a manual transmission just a fun car to drive. Ya still see em on the road today!
Hi Richard, "Back in the mid 80s these were as good as any & w/ a manual transmission just a fun car to drive" Agreed. Lou
Chris's beauty along with all the other 5.0s were street terrors back in the '80s. Especially the 5.0 LX notch back. Ford hit a homerun with this engine. Thanks Lou!
Hi Brian SD, Happy to read this car brings back memories of the Mustangs you remember :-) Thank you for viewing, sharing, and you're welcome. Lou
My dad got the same car charcoal grey black convertible top grey leather all original but the battery and the mufflers got 16000 original miles on it plugs never been change brakes never been changes car still smell brand new my dad had since 1986 I was born in 85 iam 37 now you guys need to do a story on it I bet you it's one of the cleanest in the world!!
And by the way my day still got the original gator back vr good year tires wrap in plastic!
My exfather in law has this same car, he bought it new. It has been garage kept for many years. I enjoyed driving it when I got the chance.
Hi Tim S, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
This one definitely rips! I love the fox bodies, and the "4 eyed foxes" are always a crowd pleaser. Thanks for finding and sharing Mr. Oros and his '86 with us!
Hi TheGunfighter45acp, Happy to read "I love the fox bodies" :-) My pleasure sharing this car. You're welcome, Lou
This one brought back memories for me. My first new car, special ordered from the dealer was a 1986 Mustang GT 5.0 Liter Convertible in Maroon with white leather interior and top. It too, had the 5 speed manual transmission, but I had ordered it with graphics delete so it didn't have the flat black on the hood. It had every available factory option, but I traded it after 45,000 miles and four years as it just wasn't reliable.
Hi Kevin, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your 1st car special ordered :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
I love my 89 GT convertible! Just plain fun to drive.
NICE !
Nice to see another one of these good looking examples still on the road! I’ve owned four fox bodies, two of which were 86’s, and have had two convertibles (the 86 was one of them.) The 86s were my favorite!
Hi Matt, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your four cars :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
@@loucostabile it does. My first three cars were fox body mustangs. Took about 15 years off before going back for the fourth! Always loved these and am glad to see they are finally being recognized and respected in the collector car community
Thanks so much Lou for doing this video for me and my dad much appreciated ✌️
Hi James, You're welcome. The pleasure was all mine and I had so much fun! Thank you, Lou
Quite a fun and nostalgic memory trip. I grew up in and around many of these. 🐎🐎🐎
Hi AMCmachine, Happy to read this car brings back memories of cars you grew up around :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Thank you Lou for the work you do
This car is really interesting to watch, but i gotta say the most beautiful thing about it is the exhaust system.
Hi Nuri , Appreciate your kind words on the work I do. Glad to read you enjoy watching this video. and happy to read you enjoy the exhaust system :-) Lou
@@loucostabile keep the good work Lou 🤍
It was so easy to install a supercharger on these things and absolutely rule the road. So much fun to drive, I loved my 89.
Happy to read you enjoy your cool car :-)
Nice 80's mustang. Oddly, I really dug this era Mustang hardtop and the Benz 560 drop top. Chris is livin the dream & taking his son along for the ride, sweet. (my son didn't catch the car bug)
Hi Pat, Happy to read "I really dug this era Mustang" :-) Thanks for viewing and sharing, Lou
Very nice Fox body - it’s an impressive survivor considering how most were used all those years ago.
Often used and abused. This one is great!
Thanks Lou!
Hi Jeff, You're right the condition of this car made this one a fine car for the Channel :-) My pleasure sharing with you. You're welcome, Lou
beautiful clean car 86 Mustang .. nice wheels and convertible top .. these cars were rockets on the road with a lite body frame .. scary fast -- you can see the changes a more compact version automobile compared to 60's and 70's style but very sporty fast .. a true fun car back then in the 80's ... very popular on the road .. thanks Lou, great video
Hi Noel, Thanks for viewing and sharing you enjoy the looks of this car :-) You're welcome, and appreciate the kind words on the video, Lou
Gorgeous!
I want to go back to the 80's.
Hi Kenan, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Lou
Hey big bro Lou! Oh boy! This is one sweet Ponycar, man. Chris is definitely another of my big bros from another Mother with this one., too! Love the cleanness and 80's muscle car simplicity of this Mustang. It may be a red-headed step child, as Chris said, but it is a super cool one, no doubt! Super sweet with those pipes, man. I was literally on the JV baseball team at Clarkstown South HS when this one came out and couldn't yet drive (lol legally;) but I would be in this ride in a nano second, my sneakers kicked off and in the middel of the backseat, sandwhiched between 2 buddies (I was always one of the smaller guys).....OR if my buddies were out and a chick was present, my stocking feet and calves up and twitiching. Lol but true! Thanks for bringing up this great car and bit of American nostalgia this pre-Halloweenie time, big bro! :) JV Johnny
Hey JV Johnny, Happy to read "This is one sweet Ponycar" :-) Ahhh this one brings back memories from Clarkstown South HS...NICE! My pleasure sharing this one with you. You're welcome, Lou
Great look back at old fox body
Hi acts2210, Happy to read you enjoy this "look back" :-) Lou
I had an '84 Capri RS 5.0 5 speed 3.08:1 with that SVO steering wheel. Early Escort GTs used it too. My favorite is the '82-'83 four-spoke steering wheel, without cruise control. I'm surprised to see the four manual windows on that '86.
I've also had an '82 GT, a '92 GT, an '81 Capri Black Magic with the 200 I6, and the '88 GT convertible which I still have. I know these cars well, and have done pretty much every mechanical job on them - and they're not particularly easy to work on. My '88 is has the Explorer intakes and GT40P heads, along with all of the other supporting mods, and it runs real strong.
Hi Dan, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your cars :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Didn't do anything for me then, does less now. Couldn't see a thing on his phone in the sun. Glad he found one, glad he likes it. You carried the story, for which I liked. 👍🏻
Hi 20alphabet, Clearly this one is not for you :-( Hope you see many more cars on this RUclips Channel you'll enjoy :-) Lou
Well Lou you have done it again i just watched that video on that Grand Sport that looked like my High school car 74 cutlass and now your dragging me down memory lane again .My first brand new car was a 85 Silver GT Mustang with T Tops my 85 had a 302 V8 5 speed .but 85 's with 5 speeds was the last of the Holley 4 barrel carb cars if you bought a Auto you got the new fuel injection 302 in 85 and all auto and manuals in 86.
Hi Big Daddy, Happy to ride with you down memory lane :-) Lou
The horsepower for the '86 fuel injected 5.0 dropped to 200 from the 210 hp carb version but the torque was higher. The '87 used the truck heads and a few other mods and it rose to 225 hp. Ford wanted to use it's GT40 heads for about 260 hp but they couldn't get the mpgs or emissions to acceptable levels. They put them on the '93 Cobra since the electronics had progressed enough to clean up the exhaust and keep the gas mileage acceptable.
I ordered my '88 LX 5.0 hatch in September of '87. I got one option, the T-Tops. Two weeks later, I received a call from the salesman that the T-Tops were discontinued. I went back, ordered a sunroof, AC, tilt wheel, rear defrost and Lo-Jack and of course... the 5 speed was a must. All of that for $500 less than just the $1700 T-Top option.
Lately, I've been getting that "need" to find another. I hope to find one someday.
Hi Sean, Happy to read your story on your car. Hope you find the right car for you again soon, Lou
I have a Cobra 36,000 original been sitting a long time in a barn might be willing to trade cash
@@chuckb9867 Unfortunately, the funds aren't there at the moment but thanks for the heads up.
They were really sweet towards the end of their run w/ the GT option.
@@chuckb9867 I hope you prepped it fuel wise. After a month or so that gas screws them up bad.
Drove a 4 cylinder version,as a Mother's Pizza car. 🙂 A friend had a 5.0 liter version they were quick.
Hi Tim C, Happy to read this car brings back memories :-) Lou

You're welcome J's Car Channel!
Lou - nice to finally see a
Foxbody Mustang convertible on your channel.
I presently own a red 1990 Mustang 5.0 Lx convertible with 48k original miles.
I also get a lot of enjoyment out of driving this car on a warm summer day with the top down.
Life is good. 😊
Does not get better then that!
Hi Robert, Happy to read you have a cool car too with low miles :-) Lou
Beautiful Mustang 😍😍😍😍😍 Thanks Lou!
Hi motorTranz, Happy to read and see you enjoy the looks of this Mustang :-) You're welcome, Lou
Saludos cordiales Lou!
Hi Jaime, Happy to read the design and details you enjoy with this car :-) Lou
Great content lou
Thank you Frank :-)

Great color great car
Happy to read you enjoy the look of this car :-)
That Mustang sounds like the cam has been changed and I see the valve covers too I've had a quite a few fox bodies they were cheap for what they were in a heck of a lot of fun 86 at the lousy brakes but the great interior mine had close to 400,000 MI when I lost track of it love your videos even though you make me feel old I remember when they were all new and driving the fox bodies out of the Ford dealership loving the first day of ownership
Hi Chuck B, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your 400K+ mile car :-) Thank you for viewing, sharing, and I hope the fun from the video makes you feel a bit younger too, Lou

:-)
beautiful car- what rear end gears? 3.08's?
Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Hmmm, not sure what the rear end gears are. Hoping a Viewer can share knowledge.
Had a bunch in the family - father had an 86 coupe right off the lot brand new....miss those cars!@@loucostabile
A very nice unmolested 86 Mustang.
Agreed.
5.0 V8 yet only 85 mph max on the speedo? A 1986 Ford Sierra RS Cosworth is only 2.0 yet has 170 mph max on the speedo. Being from the UK I have always wondered why such American cars as this have massive engines, yet low numbers on the speedo?
Hi Swane, It's how American Manufacturers sell you "after market" parts :-) Lou
Americas fastest production car in 86
I would think the Buick Grand National was the Winner in 1986.
Ford was trying to go for euro look with it especially those tailights, kinda shame they dropped 3 bar tailights and a mustang horse badge it was iconic. I'd still take it over camaro, it was a rattlebox, Ford was better put together.
