I owned an 86 Mustang GT Convertible for a very long time, the first answer about the rear end (2 variants, 2.73 or 3.08) is that it is called a traction lock (limited slip), It took me 5 years to find out and learn exactly what the car is capable of doing, now looking at this car, it has the LX seats ( the GT had Recaro style with gray or red piping), and with the window controls, the GT had 4 window switch and lock out on the driver door and 1 on the passenger door and NONE at the rear windows (LX option only), the speedo only has 5 digits, the only exterior differences between the LX and GT conv for that year was the front bumper cover(this car has mounts in the headlight wells for a cover and is slightly off line so I believe it was replaced), black decal on the engine hood, easy to find a red GT hood with decal back then, and the side quarter GT body molding(very easily bought and then switched from the parts dept) in front of the rear wheels, getting to the interior, the fog light switch should be below the headlight switch and it's different than the one I had, that steering wheel was a tilt wheel and don't see the knob for it, no rear defogger, different premium stereo, the AC, for the GT, had a button, not a selection on the slide knob( LX option)the grey areas around the gauges are on both LX and GT, but the back lighting of the gauges are deep orange for the GT and regular for the LX, as he is driving the car, it looks like the car is turning 1250 RPMs at 55 MPH which makes the rear end of the car 2.73 gears, which happens to be the best of both worlds, faster acceleration and better mpg. The only way to make sure that the car is a GT is to run the VIN at a Ford dealership but either way from the surface it seems to be a very nice Mustang.
