1985 was the last year that the transmission dictated central fuel injection vs carb. 1986 was universally sequential EFI across the board and rated at 200HP. 1987 got a bump to 225HP.
Dont know about way faster...those 5.0s had tall fwy gears and a very tight converter. Put 3.73 or 4.11 and a 2600 stall they came alive. Only women were seen driving auto 5.0s then . Youd get an earful anywhere you went if a car guy saw you driving an automatic musclecar
Those are fake Allen screws in the dash. It was designed to mimic fighter plane gauge panels. Mustangs are named after WWII aircraft ...the P51 to be exact
This video certainly brings back some memories for me! My dad had an 85 GT convertible with the manual, custom ordered, basically every option except leather seats. He eventually souped it up quite a bit, he put a different rear end in it, underdrive pulley, and headers and Flowmasters, and I'm surely forgetting some other stuff he had done. That thing was seriously QUICK for a late 80s American car. He always says the only cars that beat him off the line were Grand Nationals and Vettes. (he just happened to know that two bridges over a street near where we were living at the time were just about exactly a quarter mile apart...for some reason he found that knowledge useful, I can't imagine why, lol)
I had an 86 silver 5spd with a gray interior ,Was the first new car I bought at 21 years old… boy do I miss it only had it a few years before I panicked and traded it in after I moved into my first apartment
It's so funny the things we bitch about these days. Back when this car came out you would be happy just to have power windows. OMG can you believe that they would just slap a switch on the door!?!
Let me correct you Zak. The 1986 mustang GT was the first year for fuel injection on both the automatic and the manual. How do I know this? I bought a 86 GT manual with multiport fuel injection from the dealer. 1985 was the last year for carbureted mustangs.
Did the explorer motor have the Windsor firing order or was it non HO firing order. I remember 2 maybe 3 firing orders for those 302 engines. I never did know why people wanted the explorer motor.
Btw mine is pretty much stock and is 350 hp and my dad the same 302 in his Torino and it was also stock and was pushing around 400-500 hp naturally aspirated so you can get more then 100 hp out of a stock ish 302
My black86GTWithred interior is beautiful i have never seen a foxbody i liked more. It also has a cooler steering wheel without cruise control a simple basic car that road and trac said would do 135 mph i got in alot trouble with her and never regerted it once only thing's quicker were a corvette (could have bought 3 mustang for that money)or a grand national (2 mustangs)86camaros and most common gen2s(350with th350)would just look the other way at the green light drag strip. 3120lbs of tire spinning fun.if you buy a brand new car do yourself a favor and buy exactly the one you want
Lol! Ya! Don't think so , there was a drag strip down the road and I watched these 85 86s walk all over Camero's Trans ams corvettes, stalk of the same year almost all of the foxes won I'm talking nothing done to them.
Back then NObody wanted an auto 5.0 except chicks whose parents bought them one. Seriously, most any performance car with an auto back then youd get chit, even at stoplights. lol Adding a better converter and gears made them come alive. Last yr I lived at home I was 16?Neighbor bought a brand new Silver 5.0 Gt. That exhaust note was incredible I thought. The carbd ones would pop a bit through the exh had to own one. did a couple yrs later with a 86 just under a yr old. The 87-up were noticeably faster. Only 25hp but the power was noticeable. 1st gear I would be door to door, once in 2nd they would walk away
I had a red 86 red 5 speed very similar. Super fun car.
All stock.
14.2 ET all day long.
I had the regatta blue 5 speed hatch 5.0 LX, the only options where a cruise control and rear window defroster. Won a ton of stoplight races
And it was fuel injected!
1985 was the last year that the transmission dictated central fuel injection vs carb. 1986 was universally sequential EFI across the board and rated at 200HP. 1987 got a bump to 225HP.
Love it. So many people don't get it
Not gonna lie, the manual is waaaaaay faster lol.
It’s the same
@@86mustang no it isn’t unless the automatic is modified
Dont know about way faster...those 5.0s had tall fwy gears and a very tight converter.

Of all the shortcomings of the Fox-body Mustangs, looks was never one of them.
Those are fake Allen screws in the dash. It was designed to mimic fighter plane gauge panels. Mustangs are named after WWII aircraft ...the P51 to be exact
Nice review, I also have a Red '86 GT, mine is a manual though.

Looking for a clean , stock 86. Hard to find. Congrats.

Good video but the “bolted in” gauges are fake. The bolt heads are just for show. The entire gauge bezel comes out in one piece.
Foxbody is the best mustang
Huzzah a man of quality I see
Love this car! Glad you addressed the difference between the automatic and manual! It's huge!
He was incorrect about the automatic vs manual
I had an 86 silver 5spd with a gray interior ,Was the first new car I bought at 21 years old… boy do I miss it

2:43 love the reaction
I love how you review the most random stuff!
My mom has a 86 mustang 5.0 with t-top. Said she had to order it. Cause she wanted the t-top
I would love to have an 86.
It's so funny the things we bitch about these days. Back when this car came out you would be happy just to have power windows. OMG can you believe that they would just slap a switch on the door!?!
Loved my 86 gt!
i have an 86 GT 5 speed
Nothing like the sound of the old Foxbody Mustang. My favorite is 1987.
Cool to see a millennial enjoying a GenX car👍
you should try to get your hands on a manual 87-93 fox to review

Great videos. Keep up the good work.
I know this one was wrecked recently. Can you tell me who owned it?
Thanks.I just got 1 last may.5speed
What are the size of the wheels?
Josue David Lorenzana wheels are 15x10 tire is 275/55/15 rear front are are 15x9 195/55/15
Car would have had 15 inch "10 hole" rims...
Good point on the rant, I concur.
you got that car from jose! it’s an arizona car he wanted to trade me for my manual mustang lol. clean car tho
Out of basic ( im going to talk to a recruiter soon) I want to buy a mint condition so I would meet people with class.
That looks like a explorer 5.0 engine to me. Mass air too, not speed density.

I read the 86 Bible and Cataclysm books, cover to cover.
1980s mustangs sucked camaro definitely dominated the decade
Whatever you wanna say
Gotcha not wonder the Camaro disappeared, and our beloved Mustang still here .
