I live in Huntingdon County and my friend from Jersey truly believes she saw Ray last summer while swimming at one of the islands below Hawns overlook. I told her it was probably a goose, haha. She said she was swimming from the island to the henderson hollow peninsula with her kids and she saw what looked like a dinosaur head (head approximately the size of a large dogs head) swimming towards them. She screamed for everyone to get out of the water. I've been swimming in this lake for over 30 years and have yet to encounter Ray. Although, Ive seen huge musky!
Those musky are GINORMOUS. Could easily take out a medium dog or small deer.
Probably a river otter or beaver
@@kathyodato8322😂
I can't wait! I live on the other side of the mountain, haven't heard this story. Honestly I have yet to visit Raystown, hopefully this summer! Keep doing what you do, Scott 😊
If you visit the lake, I recommend going with someone with a boat. Shy Beaver boat launch in the southern annex of the lake is a great place to put in
So much better than world news with the morning coffee...
Great ride.
Glad you enjoyed it Adam. It was a fun one. And what a perfect day it was out at the lake.
Although i’ve been to the Raystown area a handful of times i’d never heard of Raystown. This is all very interesting!
The Jersey Devil also vacations in PA.
LOL... when I was a younger teen we use to drive over into Jersey to go looking for the Devil up in the Pine Barrens. We stopped when we learned the story of the real life feral girl found in the Barrens because is scared the crap out of us.
I'm pretty sure it started in Bensalem, or Bristol. Hoove prints in the snow on a roof.
@@kevinoneill7904 maybe even Croydon!
We all know it's you Scott out there swimming around in a Nessie costume.
Is that a fat joke? Skinny at top, wide in middle, skinny at bottom? LOL... I mean, there is no deny my 30 foot snake, but...
@@ODDySEEy No I would never make fun of anyone for their weight..
Well only Rosie O'donnell
Catfish get big in them parts, feeding on baby lakemonsters?
I was pleasantly surprised of your historiacl knowledge of circus train wrecks. I am a retired American Character Clown that toured with Ringling Bros. Circus from 87 to 93 and lived on the train. I subscribed!
I’ve lived 25 minutes from Raystown Lake my entire life and I’ve never heard of Raystown Ray.
What’s that tell you? 😂😂😂
You are blessed and lucky or don't get out much. ;)
That you're complelty uninformed and out of touch with actual reality. It's OK. Most people are like you. They don't have a clue what's actually going on in the world, right under their noses. 😉
I'm glad you finally put this together. Interesting information and great location for a video.
And in a week of heavy overcast followed by another week of heavy overcast and wind, I just got lucky on the particular day I chose to go out.
I'm sure there are things on this earth we haven't encountered yet!
Absolutely. 30 new species found in Antarctica this past year alone.
didnt get a chance to watch this video yet but was looking forward to it. Everytime I take the boat out I tell the kids about ray lol
Keep them kids on their toes. There are far scarier things in that water than Ray...
In the late 1970’s I worked with RK from Bellwood.,who was a member of a local sportsman association. RK claimed to have talked to a diver who was doing some sort of inspection at the Raystown dam. The diver told RK “ if you saw what I saw you wouldn’t want to swim there” . The diver said there is something really big in there that actually scared him.
He told me the diver came up and refused to go back in the water.
Sadly RK has since passed away so no further information is available but I hope this helps
I have heard that story a few times and from a small handful of people. Never knowing if it was something big or just a trick of light, shadows, and the kookiness caused by a Trimix.
same thing in the mckeys rocks on the mon.
Every lake in America has a story about about a diver, going down at the base of the dam and seeing a big fish or something that scared him and he refused to ever go back in. Seriously Lake has this same silly story. Sometimes it’s a giant catfish the size of a Volkswagen and for some reason, they always say the size of a Volkswagen. Sometimes it’s a giant musky or pike that was seven or 8 feet long. It’s just stories. The Juniata river, which they damned to create raystown lake was not a big enough river to hold a creature 30to 50 feet long without literally hundreds of people having photos and actual credible eyewitness accounts
Same urban legend that has been told for years from every lake or river in America.
@@Scumfrog74 I’ve talked to technical divers on the Greers Ferry dam in Arkansas who have all agreed that there are giant catfish here. It’s almost like the stories from so many places are referencing a real phenomenon…
I love your stories, keep them coming
Fully intend on it. I love these stories from history and how the unfold.
Great video and detective work Scott!!!!! I actually side with you. It all adds up, and lines up with many of your past videos. I commented on a previous video, about my Dad telling me years ago about divers seeing huge pike/musky in the dam. They said supposedly 10 feet long. The water isn't always clear, who knows, maybe a snake. Keep up the Great Work, I appreciate all your hard work. By the way, my wife was on the edge of the sofa almost the whole time. She also said that you're a very intelligent man!!!
It feels good when all those past stories click together to give you a feasibility into what something considered cryptid could have actually been in a normal, non-conspiracy monster world. Let your wife know that her comment and reaction are greatly appreciated and I hope to continue to bring her more.
The piinacle over looking the Susquehanna. Awesome
I will be out there eventually.
Bring it on brother, I'm eating meatballs sandwiches, potatoe chips, and my wife and I cant wait
I think I read the April first newspaper article in the Broadtop Bulletin in 2006. With a retraction and apology in the next week's paper. But for me a legend was born!
I did not check the Broadtop Bulletin. I did check the Tyrone and Altoona Mirror which only reflected the article (word for word). I did not find retraction from those papers either (but they wouldn't have had to because it wasn't their story, just an echo).
Joshua Longhi from Elk County PA..Didnt finish your video yet but I love PA so i am sure I will enjoy your video!
Awesome! Thank you!
Ive lived in PA my entire life, and never heard of any of these cryptids. I WILL be watching your other videos! I love history, learning new things, and what's better than learning about your home?
Very interesting ! Thanks, I never knew this
Glad you enjoyed it
There was a circus train crash in Riddlesburg also. It's what we called red cut. I lived there most of my life and walked those tracks many times. It's now rails to trails. That's where the broad top snake came from. I have newspaper clippings that i got when my great great aunt passed. I do believe that it said 1909.
Pulled a 35 inch striper out of raystown that looked like a seal grabbed it and left the most wicked scar. Maybe it was a bear. Idk. But the bite was massive. Ray was what i thought of
There was a “sea creature” taken off the jetty at Biddeford Pool,Maine in August of 1968 by the Gagne brothers , but with a mouth like a carp, no teeth and two flippers, not four, a bulbous body, about 12-15’ long. I still have the photo.
We have found 30 new species of never before seen fish and fish types under Antarctica in the past year. There are still so many things we have not seen in the waters.
@@ODDySEEy I’m not surprised to hear it. They want us to think “coelacanth.” However, Biddy was no fish. No scales, flippers, not fins, and no gills. The Gagne bros were experienced fishermen and called a a “creature,” to be on the safe side.
@@stevewhite7426 like when a Pilot doesn't say "UFO" but says ufo. LOL
Verne Gagne?
@@bathory5026 On the back it does indeed have the signature of Richard John Gagne and the date August 8, 1967 on the back!
And “ Paul Bailey Gates, ‘Photography with a Difference’” I guess when he came up with that motto, he had no idea how prophetic he was.
Scott, I thoroughly enjoyed your breakdown of the Raystown Ray story. I have another PA local legend for you. It would be cool if you looked into the "Cat Man" of "Cat Man's Lane." I believe the setting starts in the 60s - 70s timeframe in the LaFayette Hill, Miquon and Andorra area, just outside Philly city limits, near the Schuylkill River. There was a sort of lover's lane just off of Manor Rd. Other notable towns that the story emanates from are Conshohocken, Plymouth Meeting and Whitemarsh. While it is sort of a local legend, I believe it has some basis in reality...like a real, disturbed, semi-feral human being. Picture teenagers getting frisky on a pitch black lane while interrupted / assaulted by a being lurking in the dark who leaves their signature claw marks upon their victims. As teenagers, we talked about it, we would drive down Manor Rd slowly and act like our cars would stall to scare our occupants...lol. I even remember one of my highschool teachers discussing how they went out incognito with the police to try to lure the lurker out.
Ok... so when I lived in Juniata (neighborhood in Philly) there was a story of the Catman going around. I knew there was a story about Catman of Conshohocken, and the Frankford Catman, and just so you know it IS in my list because further research took it back to the story of the Appalachian Catman in the Susquehanna Valley. That led me to the early 1800's Frankford Delaware Catman, not Frankford Philly, as some man who had cat features and was the caretaker of the Long Cemetery in Sussex County. I will move it up the list a bit so I can get to the root of that story and share it out.
@ODDySEEy cool, thanks. It's interesting to hear there were more Catmans. The reason I mention Conshy and the other towns, (I am originally from Plymouth Mtg) is because I figured it might be better referenced to one of those towns. I'm pretty sure the precise spot of the attacks was a crappy lane cutting through the woods in a little no-mans land in the hills of the Schuylkill valley, off of Manor Rd, in an area I consider between the boundaries of Miquon and Andorra. It was chained off in my teens, but I managed to get my car under the chain one night and plowed through the overgrowth and vines. I ended up getting it stuck in a drop-off on the side of the road. My friends and I had to make the creepy trek out to a pay phone by light of a Zippo. I paid a pretty penny for the recovery...lol.
I lived in mapleton for 18 years which is about 5 miles or so away.. and we heard of small dogs that was swimming in the lake go missing never to be found again!! So it makes since..
I agree... BUT... them Musky get huge too.
Saw it happen in about 81-82 at Snyders run boat launch a small poodle turn into lunch for some fish.
The Raystown hydroelectric dam is obviously TARTARIAN.
I so cannot wait until my Conspiracy channel posts my theories on the Tartars.
Do you have another channel?
@@sheria3571 soon, Darkside of ROM will be up and running.
Dont forget Scott.... There ARE elephants in PA! Somerset Elephant House which is run by the Pittsburgh Zoo
I didn't even think about any of the ICC's... we have them EVERYWHERE in PA... even out here.
Yep I got 3. Firstly I was told about 16 years ago about an incident that happened years before of a "rich" couple on a pontoon or houseboat where their poodle jumped or fell off the boat and as they were swinging around to retrieve it it just BLOOP disappeared, gone no trace. Not surprising tho cuz a BIG striper or catfish would defiantly swallow that whole. Second was divers inspecting or repairing the relief gates at the dam itself reported seeing...some kind of fish...at a length of around 8 feet. For the record I personally believe BOTH of these. Third I heard about either a shark or an aligator/crocodile idk some predator like that that an irresponsible owner couldn't take care of and so released into raystown but that it either only survived until the first winter or made it 2 or 3 years b4 it was never seen again. The whole loch Ness stuff is stupid though, this is an artificial lake, not a fjord or something connected to a sea that's been around for thousands or hundreds of thousands of years.
It is a plausible theory. Good work.
I wanted to discount everything... but then the stories of the snakes from the past all the way up until the 60's made me think a bit harder than I normally do.
Thank you for doing the serious research needed to get some actual answers about this particular aquatic mystery. It's always a shame when a potentially spectacular undiscovered animal turns out to be nothing more than lies spewed by smirking creeps who enjoy defrauding and disrespecting the public. (I personally hope there's an especially bad corner of hell set aside just for hoaxers.)
Originally I had speculated that Ray might be one of the (seemingly) many large aquatic reptiles (or mammals possibly?) that appear to swim the waters of the world, waiting to be acknowledged by science. I had imagined that a population could have found their way into that particular body of water through any number of routes, following the construction of the dam, and that there was no reason to assume such a thing to be an impossibility. Out on the west coast, where I live, we almost certainly have at least one species of huge aquatic reptile which is seen frequently in our rivers, lakes, and coastal waters, so why mightn't a similar animal have found it's way to Raystown?
Sadly, if your research is as thorough and accurate as It seems to be, (and I have no reason to doubt that it is,) it would appear that Ray is not an undiscovered species at all. I am disappointed, but it it's good to know the truth. If you aren't looking for the truth in life you are wasting your time, I believe.
All the best to you, and thanks again for the great work that you are doing!

I enjoyed this video, i live close to Raystown. Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it.
Watching now.. sorry missed the premier
What's that long white thing in the water behind you? Raystown Rayleana!
Rayleana, I like it.
Awesome video as always..keep the hat on..
With all these things out there i think I'll just stay out of the woods
99.99% of all these things are not to be feared. They are typically much more afraid of US and tend to make a loud noise then run away. The ones to fear are the bugs. LOL
I never heard about raystown ray before, and I dont think there is any kind of monster in the lake. Having been a diver for years after my Navy days and never seen anything. I do however know for a fact there are cat fish big enough to stand on their lower lip!
Yeah, I am not on board with something that falls out of nature and science when it comes to what is in the lake. And yes, catfish, muskie, and the potential of some sort of an invasive are always my first go-to's.
I think you nailed it!
Maybe not perfect, but kinda fits with all the other histories that have been documented accurately.
Yup ... probably LARGE Musky and Pike. Fished this lake 40; years ago. Cought massive pike.
It would be soooo coool to pull out a 8-10 foot Musky or Pike. I would call it Ray all day long.
Tanks? I look forward to hearing more about that 🍿
Yup. The Tank Corps was there to "target practice" within mountain areas.
Very good video as always.
I have been waiting to make this one for a while but had to get the other ones in place first.
I love that you provided the whole truth, and that the whole truth still provides room for all perspectives!
I enjoy a good conspiracy. If it's not true, it's still an interesting story.
Agreed. Keep an eye out for when the Conspiracy channel DOES spin up (hopefully sooner than later). This particular one is still only a working theory, which is the closest thing to not being 100% Fact that I have ever posted on the channel.
Great stuff, subd.
Welcome aboard!
Imagine swimming in a lake in PA and you run into an Anaconda. You'd need new undies after that!
Who wears undies when swimming? LOL (but yeah, I would probably take a lung full of water)
Scott how about doing a video on the susquehanna seal.
It is on the list along with a few other Susquehanna trips I have setup.
Awesome video!
Thanks Jack, and thanks for permit on your WONDERFUL song. Still keep singing it because of how it is accurate.
Been saying for years the broadtop snake went for a swim!
It just makes sense.
Broad top snake was anaconda from a circus wreck in Hopewell. It could have holed up in mines and right over the hill is water for after hibernation and that's what I always thought But, Ray was simply an April fools joke and they came clean Long ago.
Hahahaha i spent years here with mostly my dad but both my parents i loved this place❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Used to go swimming near the current Entriken bridge at night at least once a week. We'd all don life jackets and jump off the boat with a floating cooler. We'd drink some beer and goof off. The last time we went a large let's say "fish" swam between my legs and I ended up kicking it with both legs while treading water. The fish immediately shot off and smacked into my friend Joe. He was, um well, quite under the effect of the bottle of JD he was enjoying. He screamed like a girl and to us it looked like he jumped out of the water and ran to the boat like a "Jesus lizard" I laughed and said it was a big carp looking for the snacks we were dropping in the lake. It felt like a carp, large scales, thin but it did feel rough maybe a sturgeon, but I doubt it . On the short boat ride to Shy Beaver Joe, mad at the harassment he was receiving for the shriek, attempted to jump off the boat to get his revenge on that "shit talking carp". So to this day we laugh about Raystown's shit talking carp and Joe has never again swam in deep water.
Be careful, those carp WILL eat you, just ask Publius Vedius Pollio. But that is a GREAT story. Fortunately the Muskie seem to stay either really deep or sun along the banks. Those boys would tear you apart.
the dark area looks like a school of baitfish. the others are just logs and trees floating in the lake which happens ofen. im on that lake all the time :)
Good commentary
Thanks!
Does Huntingdon have dogman sightings?
Not in the area, no. But they are to the East and West of us.
If that Dam is Tartarian I'm sure were talking about something that's real and has been hidden from the public !!
It is not. The current one was put there in 72, the previous in 1909.
Funny the army corp of engineers buit it in 1972 i guess they put the monster in it.
Raystown Dam was NOT originally built by ACE, but rather the Simpson Family in 1902. Which is stated in the video if you watched it.
My skeptical mind says a large school of fish or the observer ate some mushrooms. lol
Ray walked up to my cabin once n got me high.
I experienced the same thing once.
Yes, you're the latesthere's a lake up in North Jersey that comes in from San Diego Bay. That's the man-made lake supper near with a great white shark, said attack to me. I can't wait to coast back here in 60s or whatever 50s. But I saw a sea serpent that goes into the flu-like by Kingsburg back to N At co lake and I think it's called I personally have seen this sea sepent ...out on a 14 ft dauranaticfishing with a budy of mine. Just between there and Staten Island ..it's A legend u can find on google...
I’m catching up today!!
🤔👍Well done.
Thanks for your painstaking research on this one.

It is neat how everything clicks together over time.
I BELIEVE !! !! 🐍
It would be SPECTACULAR to actually see a GIANT snake swimming around the lake.
Total bunk. I have lived here all my life.
Excellent video, and valid theory.
30 miles??? Thought it was 24 miles???
Please never play that song again.
I don't know, the lyrics are catchy and accurately portray the history of what was recorded about Ray. LOL
Have lived in pa my entire life and have never heard of it so cannot be too big of a story
Right... and you probably believe there are only 4 states of matter, 7 continents, 6 senses, and 3 dimensions.

Sturgeon
Unfortunately, it is highly unlikely to be a Sturgeon. Not only because they are endangered but as far as Pennsylvania is concerned, they are only found in Lake Erie with no direct or indirect route into Raystown.
He isn't real
Thanks for watching.
People make fun of these so caalled fables but quess what soon your going to question yourself for thinking such a thought when a veil of secrecy becomes factual and not fiction at all! I'm sure there's something unusual in that lake that's probably similar to Loch Ness!!
Nope.
Well that's a man-made lake made by the army engineer corp although after visiting raystown several times the lake is massive and there are massive fish down there there's probably stripers and muskie in that lake that are over 6 or 7 ft long but as to some sea monster and wouldn't have been in there very long It was an actual town not too long ago😂😂😂😂
Ummm... yeah. I am the person who has made the videos telling people about the history of this lake area on youtube. And if you actually watch the video instead of commenting on the title and thumbnail, you would realize nobody said anything about a sea monster in the lake.
Raystown is a manmade lake… Hello!
You should watch the video before leaving stupid comment. HELLO
You admit to having no evidence but clickbait the title...and yes, someone in broad top had a skin.
Feel better about yourself?
The only thing I keep seeing for any form of a photo is what looks like a large shoal of schooling fish such as shad or herring. If you have no idea what anything in nature looks like it could look like something big in the water, but it’s just a school of baitfish.
That is one of the things I go back to is the baitfish. April is stock season for the Lake Trout as well. BUT... the images with body OUT of water while IN the water are the compelling photos that lead me to "snake".
Raystown dam is man made ! So how did it get in there?
May I recommend watching the video and not commenting on the Title and Thumbnail to obtain your answer.
