Life dont get better than this, a beautiful lab licking my toes for attention, a cat purring in my ear for attention, and watching Scott's videos; while relaxing in bed😊
Ok... toes, ears, and being in bed may have been a little too much info. But I am glad I was a part of it for your viewing (and only the viewing), Brian. LOL
That was so awesome seeing all those old trolleys and buses and trains.
Little secrets found in the woods. LOL
Sadly, most of these cars were scrap metal when they were brought to this location. Few had any chance of being parted out or ever renovated or restored. People who pine for the "Good old Days" must also remember that nothing lasts forever and All things must Pass!
Isn't there any company that can rebuild, restore and reconditioned these dead PCCS such as Bombardier, Kawasaki, and Siemens and Alstom?
@@CarlosVazquez-p4c Why would you even want to? I'm sure theres companies that could, but why? There's so much better stuff out now! Just buy state of the art cars that don't need all this work and $$!
I still like that there was a site that had remnants of the times of yore that continued to be rampaged by the cycle of years just sitting. Made for interesting apocalyptic and dystopian concepts.
@@CarlosVazquez-p4c Brookville usually does it...
Great video as always Scott!! Ive seen pictures of this over the years, but I never knew the story or location. I grew up in Hollidaysburg, around a lot of trains and family and friends who worked for the railroad. In fact, my Father worked for Berwind White as a stenciler. It is very sad to see another piece of history being taken away. Thanks again for all your hard work!!!
WOW... you were unaware of Windber Trolley Graveyard? Yeah, less than 5 mins south of Johnstown. So not too far away. We have little nuggets like this all around us. I am still trying to get into a few other sites before they too are gone.
Always a great trip! Thanks Scott!
6:54 Boston is rebuilding their PCC’s for another “mid-life” overhaul. Boston never actually retired their PCC’s they’ve just never been replaced on the Mattapan line
Real bummer that it was sold to a scrapper.... Thanks for another great video !
Real bummer that nothing is there for those of us who UrbEx History anymore. But probably for the better because of all those people that decided to go out and desecrate from 2019 until now.
Great photography! Beautiful footage and wonderful to have now that it's gone. Where I grew up (northern NJ) the trains were electric but the "antenna" didn't spark.
Sad when we lose these... but it is always bound to happen over time.
Another great video Scott! Sorry we missed the premier, it was so hot, we took a ride to Trough Creek and stuck our feet in the water.
All Good, all the time! :D
I'm a big fan of PCCs and always wished for a rich uncle so I could save them! I also liked the two Elgin 'Pelican' street sweepers. I always thought they were neat!
The bus company here in Johnstown, CamTran, should've bought some of those trolleys and restored them. They should've had the old Moxham Sheds as a Trolley museum. They could've had other trolleys from other lines brought in for display.
But CamTran doesn't care about history.
A pantograph is the whole frame on an electric train that connects to catenary. What trolleys have is far more basic and is referred ro as a "trolley pole" connecting to "trolley wire". Both serve essentially the same purpose, but the design of the two systems are very different.
Thank you for that information.
Always love your choices of music to accompany the video.
I try to find that spot between classic 70s-2000s rock in order to keep enough people interested in the music. Although most of my viewers are in GenX, there are a TON of Boomers and only a handful of Mills and Zs... so I try to find that "balance".
I so enjoy Scott's videos and history.
Thank You!
Those Septa cars at the 5 minute marker NEVER saw the Market Frankford line. They were cars from the CTA that Septa bought to use to on the Norristown High Speed Line, or rather Rt 100. NOT, the MFL.
Thank you Scott another great video. I also enjoyed the music.
Awesome, thank you!
I lived in Johnstown and I visited the trolley graveyard only once before
It was quite beautiful before 2019 when things got out of hand.
Weren't ANY of them saved?
Thanks for the video!! This was a place I really wanted to photograph….. superb!!
Yeah... it really is sad that it is empty now. That is why we are supposed to hit them as soon as possible. Never know what might happen... fires, clean ups, accidents... and sometimes nothing for 100 years. LOL
@@ODDySEEy I totally understand what you are saying!!!!
It's the same story with alot of old folks. They build up a collection over the years. People offer to buy some of it and they refuse to sell. Then get to old to do anything with their collection. It rots and rusts appart till their is nothing left and it goes to the place they tried to keep it away from, the scrap yard. Or the wife and kids sell it and get the money the old man didn't want. Or throw it all away as junk. Maybe when I get old I'll understand the psychology.
I am there right now with that weird psychology. But, still young enough to try and sell it off (which I am doing with my weird collections)
That is seen over and over again with classic cars. "Gonna fix it up someday." But someday never comes.
MBTA.i might have rode some of those in Boston
So exactly what remains at Windber? It would be tragic to see priceless parts cut up for scrap. Are the few better cars still in the building. There were two or three vintage cars {now vandalized} in that building. Trolley museums don't seem to be interested in them. I thought Ed Metka had passed away, but you said not. You say he's now in his 80's.
Priceless? Really? Looks like a lot of outdated junk!
Jeff... I think he got sick for a while and that is what was slowing him down for 3-5 years. But he is still alive. The scrap, from what I was reading and hearing about, was formal scrap companies specific to trains... not just metal collectors. So a lot of parts will be removed and shipped out and then frames/bodies will be metal scrapped. Right now, nothing is left at the site.
Hi. Like your channel. I grew up in Malvern, very near the spot called Duffy's Cut that you visited. Are you familiar with a murder case dated 1722 near Conestoga, PA? I know that history from a book called "Covered With Night" by Nicole Eustice. I'd love to see the area in a video, nicely narrated by you.
I will look into it. Apparently about Swataeney? Before the 1763 Massacre?
In the '90s, I helped Ed's driver haul some of those trollies in there.
That is awesome that you got to experience such a thing. Must have thought he was crazy. LOL
@@ODDySEEy not really. Ed wasn't crazy.
Up in Titusville, PA ... a dozen trolley's were turned into motel's...
Great place for wedding receptions. Worth checking into.
There's another motel besides the Caboose Motel?
The vintage trolley from 1947 is now running on Route 15.
I am wondering if Philly will just rip up the rails or replace the few trolleys left. My guess is they will just asphalt over everything, like always, and wait until a water pipe bursts. LOL
BTW... I was doing a little leisure sleuthing. Wondering, Parliamentarian?
@@ODDySEEy The rails are still down for the 10 (Lancaster and Media), 11 Woodland, and the 15 (Girard) are still running. The 15 is the only one above ground.
@@ODDySEEy My Gricar stuff use to be on the Centre Daily Times website. You can find my parliamentary stuff in many places. :)
@@ODDySEEy they are going to replace them.
As always, great video and informative content. History being erased
Glad you enjoyed it
Digging the dramatic music… very cool…
Thanks!
I was always told that it was GM's crony capitalism that killed the trolleys.
I did not come across any conspiracies that I could dig up in that direction.
@@ODDySEEy There was no conspiracy. After the 2nd world war, systems were worn out and people were moving to the suburbs that streetcars didn't reach. All GM did was open their bus catalogs.
It is called a trolley pole not an antenna like an old analogue TV set.
It was called a Trolley Pole until 1895 when they were replaced with a Pantograph... just as described in the video.
Welcome to my hometown.
LOL... look out, because now the cops are gonna be bored again and start pulling people over for stupid stuff... again.
Hi scott😊
This video could easily have been reduced by 1/3 to 1/2 its length by cutting out the (allegedly) "dramatic" music and fluff in the last half, since there was nothing of any substance in that portion! Time that was wasted and can never be returned!
Who alleged the music was dramatic? How was there nothing of substance when recieving a full tour of the property? Are you visually impaired or a non visual learner, so hate on those who are? How was your time wasted if you could have clicked away or shuffled through the video at any time? This does not, on any front, sound like an ODDySEEy problem. It sounds like a lack of self control problem. Possibly an attention deficit problem. And by your comment, a total lack of tact. Let it be known that there are 12,000 plus viewers who disagree with your viewpoint here alone. Hopefully this gentle comment response that you and your comment and your feelings do NOT matter here, coming from me, will keep the wolves off of you. Thanks for watching.
Also... please feel free to review the channel guidelines.
What a cool video Scott! As a youngster I lived in Philadelphia. Oxford circle area of the northeast. We lived off of Castor Ave. My grandparents lived a couple miles up on Castor. There was a trolley turn around point right near there house. I personally can't remember seeing trolleys on Castor Ave but I know they ran on it at one time.
I do remember the electric busses that would spark once and a while from overhead. We used to ride the EL alot as well. Would get on at Bridge and Pratt Station and go to the gallery mall with mom. Good memories from the early 80s. Greatly appreciate your work.
