You know, as an engineer and aftermarket OEM, I designed and manufactured several innovative parts in the off-road market. Business was decent, I stood behind our products, phone support, you name it. Then an idiot sent our parts to China. They were then trying to pedal parts cheaper, then China started selling direct on EGAY. Now you can find every one of my designs on there. What is sad is I am sitting on novel, ground breaking ideas for that sector that I will NEVER release because I know how this goes. I shut down our off-road division and still get calls to this day. Fact is only 25% really want our name and quality, and 75% want something that looks the same for cheaper. Now we stick with stuff that requires FAA red tape. FU scammers and CHINA!
This sounds like my story. At considerable expense, I reproduced several parts for classic cars. These were items that are fairly complicated. The repo's were made is the USA - just like the originals - should be important to classic car guys, they are among the most vocal about how everything was better when it was made here. Within months of introducing our products, cheap imitations showed up in the marketplace. Didn't fit right, didn't look right, and oh - 1/2 the price we were charging. Only catch was - total market wasn't that big, so after several months with slow sales - all the remaining product got dumped. Now, neither of us makes the parts! People often talk one game, but shop another. Same as you - I have / had more products in the pipeline that I most likely won't release now. Nothing more frustrating that watching your hard work get copied and ripped off by people that have no real understanding of things and will simply move onto the next shiny thing next week.
Whether you send it to them or not, it doesn't matter. If China sees an item selling well, they will buy one from you and copy it; nothing stops them. There are thousands of oil seal kits on Ebay, there is one model Honda ATV/ATC that had one special seal, within the whole set, and I had thought about selling a complete set for a couple years. I finally did it this past winter and I think I sold about a dozen sets, before suddenly 5 different CHINA sellers sold the same kit, and all cheaper of course. I probably broke even, but they saw me sell a dozen kits fast, in a couple weeks, and they jumped all over it. NAFTA has destroyed manufacturing in the USA.

Hello there Jay, I just stumbled onto your video of the valve body BS somebody is trying to pull over onto you. I've been into the automotive repair business for almost 40 years and I completely understand your frustration."work with me,not against me" will go really far with so many situations. I don't want to be nosey or anything but what the hell is epoxy doing inside the valve body cavity. I understand that sometimes you need to modify the transmission fluid passage and direction or whatnot for better shift qualities and such. Using epoxy sure does shine the light on the person or company you are dealing with.
I'm guessing the epoxy was to make sure the pin stayed tight. Which is ok but it this case the main surface should have been lapped down to where it is flat and not on the surface.
Still shaking my head that JEGS doubled down on supporting SpeedMaster . They had their trailer in front of the retail store during GoodGuys show. insulting to all manufacturers
It sucks that this keeps happening to you. The first video of yours I watched was the first video about Speedmaster but I keep watching because I’ve picked up some things from the other videos.
Speed master, when I looked them up, some page said " we have 4 new factories in shanghai China" ii thought great so Ill never buy from you ever again and will not. Plus tons of reviews on whole engines not even working so bad company.
If a different company name is machined into the valve body why is the guy insisting it’s your valve body? Irregardless of it being a copy of your work.
I had a stainless steel exhaust company here in France and we had the same problems with copiers. Sure it sucks, but sooner or later their bussines calaps. Sadly in between time they eat a part of the cake. Stay strong mate😎
As I said after the last problem, do you serialize the products you manufacture? How do you verify the part is yours, especially if you made it for a company that does not want your name on it.
Serial numbers, trademarks and patents. Is not the total answer but it really does help. Contracting with sellers to make parts for them to sell under their name can work. Jeg's or Summit brand valve bodies but actually made by someone else. Walmart and Target do this all the time.
Wow man hats off to you for staying so professional. This has to be absolutely infuriating. Pour your blood, swear and tears into products then some asshats steal it. Then some other asshats buy the knockoff then call you to complain! Lololol! Insanity.

A little bit off topic, but I have a 1979 Ford F100 with a 302 and C4 transmission. I use the truck as a daily driver and sometimes will haul a small load of dirt in it. What would make a good automatic transmission swap with minimal modifications?
I use to have an independent Porsche shop. Someone stole a bunch of my shop invoices. “They” were doing back yard rebuilding and using my invoices. I done my homework a few years back and got me a trans brake valve body for my c4 directly from broader performance. .. sadly to say ive not even hot to use it yet but its in the car and it has pulled off the lift into the garage … i need to get the car back out and Finnish it . I have faith the valvebody is gonna be great !!!!
4:40 I zoomed in over on the right side, and it looked like there was a broken chunk in the casting in the fluid paths. It didn't really look like it was machined that way
I zoomed in and looked a little closer, it actually is machined that way. Darn I hate getting old, I'm trying to avoid getting glasses because that means I'm getting old. I thought maybe it was some damage from being dropped on the floor or something😂
Just order from the manufacturer of the parts to make sure you are getting the originals. I think ordering directly from Broader Performance is the best solution. This is just like all the Milwaukee cordless tools being duplicated. You never know what you are buying from China direct aka Amazon.
This here. Just deal directly with the OEM. Yes you might have to call a phone number and speak to a human vs click n ship. But the person on the phone will generally be able to answer questions
Customer more than likely bought it not even knowing that it wasn’t your valve body I’m sure you can fix it for the guy charge him time materials make him a good customer
This is more like the regular Chinese IP theft douchebagginess. The fact that the 'customer' tried to get support from you just makes my head hurt. Yellow tape, lol. Good one.
Another theft example, from real life. A guy brings his car to a repair shop to have its clutch changed. The mechanic does so, and when he finished the job few days later, he parks the car outside. The owner comes at night with the spare key, gets in and drives away without paying.
People will learn that cheaper isn't always better . That small business has to work harder to get a dollar that a large company would dismiss. Small businesses value thier customers were in large businesses the customer is just a statistic.
The aftermarket performance parts industry has become nothing more than a bunch of copycats. I don’t know how many cylinder head companies are copying the Dart Pro 1 design. I lost count of how many aluminum intake manifold manufacturers are copying Edelbrock. Heck, Edelbrock is now copying the Holley carburetor design! Doesn’t anyone patent or copyright their designs any more? Or is it not possible?
Patents have limited protection. You need truly unique products for a patent to work as well as the money to defend it. Most of us are just reinventing the wheel.
Incredible decency of nerves seen so far trying to fix wid emails which parts r not even broader performance made r from some third party 9out of10 don't work vry wonderful advise to part dealers dat try to bekums a team to help customers fix deir problems is still a decent thing to move forward
Wow do you design that or is it a copy of the OEM? then do you make that whole casting and finish it? that's amazing I cant imagine how that is profitable. I wouldn't even start to know how an automatic works I cant get past the complexity of all those channels.
My idea was stolen and myself and 2 others were fired because of it. My supervisor didn't want me taking credit for the changes; he told them it was his idea.
I have a friend who bought one of your kits but it was a fake he chose to buy from a "dealer " instead of buying directly from you needless to say he got screwed. We still have it if you want i will send it to you its no use to him. He bought one from you after all was said and done
The c6 has a servo problems the groove for the snapring is thin an the metal not long enough they should put a cotterpin under the snapring so it does not come apart it's just like the 727 tork flight sprag on the tail or vender Makeing clutch drum over size
Customers can be a challenge that's for sure. Often they don't know who they bought something from and go after the wrong person. I've had people screaming at me for a refund because they didn't get their order just to find out they never ordered it with us it was another company. This has happened several times over the years.
Hey +1 for this guy. He's not afraid to show us him, the situation and offer solutions w/out vulgarities or anger..... Extraordinary.

Let me know if this is Ok or if you worked this out and got payed, ill try to remove, I went to better business bureau for speedmaster, its out of Rialto CA. seems to be purchased in early 2000s by some foreigners, found info. that says " we have 4 new factories in shanghai china" yeah so copying all the good American parts and sell them as now worthless crap and cheaper. I left a review ( not a complaint) about your situation. They have complaints saying whole heads and engines dont work and people lost serious money.
Speedmaster has done anything for us. We have not forgotten about them either.
Absolutely right !
I’m really wondering how much cheaper these thieves are selling this garbage for that they need to buy from them instead of going right to you and knowing it’s going to work.
Also any updates on the leave in 2nd c6 trans brake valve body?
In this case I don't think it would have been cheaper. Just in house savings. C4 2nd gear brake going in production very soon.
@@BroaderPerformance Good news. I think the answer is to make products that others are not making so you can stand out from the competition. Stay one step ahead.
I only ever buy direct from Jay. About to order some more C4 kits . Hopefully those other kits mentioned few weeks ago are up soon I'll get some them to so can recycle the odd C5 valvebodies .
Would love a C6 "kit" like the C4 .. Wink Wink :)
We appreciate the business and support. I do have the C5 kits available I just havent finished the instructions yet. C6 could happen as those cores dry up as well.
@@BroaderPerformance Thank You Jay , I'm keen for both. I'm on my last C4 kit as well just doing a reverse manual today so will get few more them also on next order :)
you believe a " company " made this.....but that is not the case.....it pops out of the aether........prove me wrong... Jay .....peace and love - great vid !
God only knows what goes on. I try to stay in my bubble as much as possible.
@@BroaderPerformance God knows and i know.......Sep 11 2033 is the end ...aka Judgement day ... peace out Jay.
I hope you are able to get out racing soon. I understand how hard it is to get personal projects finished though.
@@BroaderPerformance my problem is i have too many personal projects .. atlast the mustang is in the garage .
Good breakdown of your situation, I understand why your upset
Thank you. We appreciate your support.
There is no honor among thieves!
IM getting there too. Dont feel bad.
Good one
They should really just give up if they can't do it right!
So.me people never give up
Just order from the manufacturer of the parts to make sure you are getting the originals.
I agree. Going direct to the source whenever possible is a safer bet.
Its called private label...
Companies do this all the time
Sell their product labeled for their customer to sell as their own.
I have a c6 and wish it had a trans brake.... I will be buying one from you someday
We appreciate that. Thank you.
Customer more than likely bought it not even knowing that it wasn’t your valve body
I’m sure you can fix it for the guy charge him time materials make him a good customer
The company that sold it to him is taking care of it.
Obviously a great guy and products. Buy from the real deal.
Thank you, we appreciate that.
Well spoken...
This is more like the regular Chinese IP theft douchebagginess. The fact that the 'customer' tried to get support from you just makes my head hurt. Yellow tape, lol. Good one.
Its one of the reasons I wish I was able to retire. Very frustrating.
I'm going to order one right now! Be kind on the shipping to Ak.
We can USPS it very reasonable.
Hopefully it’s on its way soon! I’m way too excited to start breaking axles….
Another theft example, from real life. A guy brings his car to a repair shop to have its clutch changed. The mechanic does so, and when he finished the job few days later, he parks the car outside. The owner comes at night with the spare key, gets in and drives away without paying.
Disable cars you're parking outside. Remove fuel relays and ignition relays. Keeps theft down. Keeps the car there.
That is some low life BS if I ever heard it. Does the customer also come back and raise hell because you let his car get stolen?
Damn! They can put a man out of business
That’s what they trying to do !
I think the country in general has no love for small business. We really appreciate anyone who still supports small business these days.
I try to help as much as I can and still be fair to the company I work for. I still need a paying job.
Wow do you design that or is it a copy of the OEM? then do you make that whole casting and finish it? that's amazing I cant imagine how that is profitable. I wouldn't even start to know how an automatic works I cant get past the complexity of all those channels.
This particular product is a modified OEM part. We will be doing new designs that are all new in the future.
Why isn’t the government going after these people for copy right violations
They are too busy going after Trump for fraudulent something or other.
Government doesn't care about these issues but I'm hoping someday that will change. It has to.
The nerve of some people! How did the customer even know to call you when the other companies name was on it?
I wish I knew. I didn't get a good explanation.
Ya these guys probably aren’t sure what a C6 is anyway!
They saw a mirage that resembled dollar signs.
NO receipt, NO service!
Good policy
that dam internet, screwing all of us.
It can backfire on us for sure.
Sorry you have to go through this. Now the copiers are also costing you by you having to defend your name.
Thank you. Yes in case I didnt have enough to do. Im not alone though.
Enjoy the video I can understand your frustration. I look forward in the future to talk to you about my transmission
We appreciate your support.
I was watching and hoping that you wouldn’t give away the secret of why it didn’t work
Absolutely not.
Me to
Good Man!
I heard Pro-Comp is SpeedMaster now?
That's correct.
gotta be jegs with the yellow tape 😂😂
Haha not jegs I'll say that.
Do you patent your products?
Patents offer limited protection unfortunately.
My idea was stolen and myself and 2 others were fired because of it. My supervisor didn't want me taking credit for the changes; he told them it was his idea.
It's a dog eat dog world unfortunately.
Bro you are definitely NOT a sucker. 🤘🏽
Thank you. I appreciate that.
I have a friend who bought one of your kits but it was a fake he chose to buy from a "dealer " instead of buying directly from you needless to say he got screwed. We still have it if you want i will send it to you its no use to him. He bought one from you after all was said and done
I would like to see it and hear more about this. Please email the shop sales@broaderperformance.com
The c6 has a servo problems the groove for the snapring is thin an the metal not long enough they should put a cotterpin under the snapring so it does not come apart it's just like the 727 tork flight sprag on the tail or vender Makeing clutch drum over size
Im honestly not sure which snap ring your talking about.
Some people are just utter scumbags. (Talking the customer here.) Take that junk back to the guy you bought it off!
Customers can be a challenge that's for sure. Often they don't know who they bought something from and go after the wrong person. I've had people screaming at me for a refund because they didn't get their order just to find out they never ordered it with us it was another company. This has happened several times over the years.
not again. :(
