My one worry going into P3R was if they’d be able to properly recapture the ending. Not only did they do that, but they somehow made it more emotionally impactful than the PS2 original. I cried during the PS2 credits but man, I was bawling by the time Reload ended, and I’m not ashamed to say that.
As someone who played P3 as my first persona game, I am overjoyed to see this game seeing the appreciation it deserves by the newer persona players that didn't have the chance to play this game when it was relevant
I'm very happy about the game…like VERY lol. I was someone who started FES but never got to finish it or get far enough to remember anything. After experiencing this with P4G & P5R under my belt, this games story is by far my favorite. Incredible stuff!
I love that they make Death personable. Like, they humanizes Death. He is remorseful, but it is his duty. Death is calm and very friendly, loving individual, who is also ruthless and can't avoid what's to be done. That is so sad, and yet so...Idk beautiful. I think it makes Persona 3 very memorable. Death won't leave us, Death will be with us, it doesn't mean that we can't enjoy our life and be happy!
Now that I think about it, Thanatos (in myth) is the god of peaceful death! I love how persona 3 kind of has a different spin on the idea of death, making it peaceful and not violent (which shockingly enough not a lot of pieces of media do)
waited to watch until i finished the game.. just finished it a couple hours ago. it was my first experience with persona 3 and i will never, EVER regret the 120+ hours i put into this game
P3 Reload is my first Persona game and holy shi I have been MISSING out. I have never in my life teared up at a game before but this one did it. That ending got me. And so did the entire Chidori arc. Such a beautiful game
The Persona games are top tier for sure. This was my first time REALLY playing P3 and it was phenomenonal. Persona 4 & 5 arerally good as well with 4 still being my favorite currently.
I've unfortunately had a couple of pets die in the last month and a half, as I was playing through P3R. I don't think this story would have impacted me the way it did had that not happened. As the credits were rolling, I was crying and feeling genuine guilt for making these characters love me, just to leave them right before they had a chance to see me one last time. That being said, I also write a backstory for my characters in any rpg, so that didn't help my chances lol
And the portable version hits harder cuz, on the final scene if you have a romance with someone of the cast be on your play as male protag or female protag (female being non canon but still) that person will be the last one to see you awake along with aigis and giving you a last voiced line.
A lot of players of this game (both new and old) have seemingly understood only ONE HALF of Persona 3's message. And it all harkens back to the original opening wherein the whole scene slaps you right in the face with the phrase MEMENTO MORI, or "Remember to die." Acceptance of one's own mortality is only half the story being told because there's the other half of this adage. The full quote is "Memento Mori, Memento Vivere." MEMENTO VIVERE means "Remember to live." And that's what makes Persona 3's story a timeless classic. It's a simple, yet poignant message. We're all Makoto Yuki, we all feel that dread of having to experience a lifetime that is finite. But, like with Makoto, we also share that experience with others. And being able to share that... just makes life that much more worth living.
To appreciate Persona 3, you might have to experience something cruel in life first. I noticed most of the people who love the game have been through a lot. Sometimes we experience the same thing as Makoto. We progress at the same time. It is amazing. At the end of the game, we realized something at the same time as Makoto too. It is...Idk I love him
I am glad more people getbto experience P3 in all it's ambivalent, dreadful and hopeful, glory. The rabbit hole is deep and I encourage everyone who has played the game to look into all the little details the game has, because there is a lot and you won't regret it. Although maybe wait until the Answer DLC comes out.
3:55 this is the theme of most of the early personnas. Sounds like you haven't yet played 2. There's a huge lesson there (particuparly in innocent sin)
It's been quite a while since i played 4 or 5 but I think 3 has perhaps the best story and characters, but the weakest implementation of them. if that makes sense.
I’m def the opposite opinion to both. P3 had the best story, characters, and gameplay (if we count FES’s difficulty as I’m not fond of how P5 tanked it). And best execution. I personally can’t see how P5 especially handles its content well.
@@ma.2089 I would write my long tirade here that you are both wrong and would speak out on the facts, but I am not sure about my translator. English is not my native language. There is my post in steam discussions where I explain all this, but it is in russian language
It's in the contract he signed at the very start of the game. "One must take full responsibility for their actions". The MC and company were the ones who brought about the Fall. They were clearly duped into it, but it was brought about by the MC's own hands regardless. If BlazBlue is Greek Tragedy in fighting game form, P3 is Greek Tragedy in JRPG form. It's why Greek mythology is so prevalent in the game's theming. Like most protagonists of Greek Tragedy, P3MC is the architect of his own fate. He didn't choose the facilitation allotted to him, but never the less his life affected the world at large. The P3MC dying is akin to Ragna's fate at the end of BlazBlue's narrative. Their fading from the living world meant the fate of humanity was no longer in their conflicted hands. Unofficially passing the torch to the next starry eyed one who may lead humanity to a more fulfilling path, something that they couldn't do in their own journey's. If P4 and especially P5 are anything to consider. The people would indeed find the guides they desperately needed to have a fulfilling outlook on life. And the one who set the stage for them, was the P3 protagonist.
I really want to watch this, but i haven't finished P3R yet and it's been 17 years since i played the original so I dont want to spoil myself anything i forgot Hope i remember to come back after I've finished
I'm truly loving it more than I thought I would, which was a lot. Thanks for hearing my comment, should make ot easy to find the video again when I'm done
Till this day i still believe Persona 3 is the best story in the series. Everything done in Reload convey the theme of Death and Tragedy so well thanks to the Graphical Overhaul as you can see the pain each one in the casts face and it’s absolutely beautiful how sincere and effective they are in telling a simple story about life. I genuinely think tartarus is such a genius device to move the story because the main plot is tied to it so no matter how tedious it was, It was the driving force for its story. In The End Persona 5 Resonated with me the most because the themes fit with what I experienced in my life.
You have a much better grasp on Persona 3's themes then some other people I've seen who just think its about nothing more than accepting death, despite that viewpoint not only being not meshing with Ryoji's choice but the cast's own personas. (Makoto for instance goes from a guy who failed to cheat death to the messiah who rose 3 days later and could bring the dead back to life) If you ever decide to replay the game, I do recommend looking up how to save Chidori, as not only is that also well written but its also the canon outcome. (As in the Arena series he is working up the courage to propose to her and his new cross necklace was a gift from her)
WOW!!! That was such a stellar discussion about its themes! I've beaten P3 Portable dozens upon dozens of times, and almost everything he mentioned, -I already realized-!! SO, SO BEAUTIFULLY PUT!!!!!!!!! 😭😭😭
Absolutely amazing, I haven't played any other persona games before I started P3R. Almost cried at the end, it was fantastic, probably game of the year for me personally. Currently starting P5R, and want to play P4G.
Agreed. That ending is incredible. I hope you have a great time with the other Persona games; they're absolutely amazing! 4 being my personal favorite.
I wish they added more FES gameplay. Gameplay was boring. Not that difficult even in merciless. Disliked how they handled the party stuff with Akihiko becoming so “weak”, etc. At least better than 5. Story wise and presentation, I love the new story content. Amazing stuff, tho the whole episode thing was a bit difficult to work with since I didn’t know what days it would come back and forced me to abandon plans. Presentation of cutscenes were weak in early game. Got better towards the late game. At first wasn’t into the change to Tartarus’s top but I like it now. Inconsistent character model quality with was distracting. Music was hit or miss. Sometimes OG music was better but some were really amazing changes. I like the new VAs. Even Aigis and Akihiko grew on me, but I still wish they let Saab do a more Liam type voice as he initially wanted to. But he did an amazing job regardless.
I've beaten this game three times and the ending still wrecked me. I think if I had to ask for anything, some of the animations before All Out Attack could be a bit better and I wouldn't mind a difficulty above Merciless. Merciless was at least decently challenging unlike in P5 and P5R, but I like the SMT feel of being slapped around a lot. Oh and the Elizabeth boss fight music should have been a remix of Aria of the Soul. It would have been a nice touch. Minor things are I think the OG opening should have been available somewhere as an easter egg and I would probably pay for a pack that would let you use some of the old music just for better comparison. Not having the option for kendo as a sport is a bit sad since in the movie they used the kendo club, but I understand why they went the way they did. Maybe some mod will let you choose kendo instead in the future.
Yes, I wish merciless was more like FES difficulty. I wasn’t really enjoying the gameplay as much. Cus of this I’m not even sure I’ll pick up P6, but I guess only time will tell. and yeah I wish they’d include the old music as a pack. I wanted to do swimming myself since the game has so much water motifs lol. I doubt theyll make a mod since making brand new animations and locations wouldn’t be worth it. And I’m not super fond of them making Akihiko not as great compared to everyone else gameplay wise. They buffed all the party members but him, and it also made the game too much of a cake walk. Didn’t die ONCE to that table, what a disappointment lol
@@ma.2089Akihiko plays a different role than dedicated debuffer, but he's stronger than he was in FES. Buff Amp, Strike Boost, Strike Amp, Apt Pupil and Auto-Rebellion are all things he didn't have before. Buff Amp is especially busted because it boosts all of his damage. It's straight up the strongest modifier in the game. Also from replaying FES, Reload buffed the 12 shadows in exchange for nerfing the Tartarus floor guardians. Almost of them have unique moves they didn't have in FES. For example Priestess doesn't have Ice Storm. Chariot also didn't have physical resist or require you to spend a resource to get them to split or take next to no damage unless split. I do wish they kept the difficulty of the floor guardians but Party Control already made them too easy in P3P.
when you put burn my dread as a background track i got the chills. I think this game has the better story by far, i played p5 and part of 4 (it's too repetitive for me). I dreaded sometimes the repetitiveness of tartarus but i think that was the point. I didn't enjoy myself the most while playing it but i still think it's the best persona game. it's weird isn't it? It’s especially emphasized by death asking to die (kinda like Ken) and with them talking about how great life is at the end.
And If you stay idle on a Tartarus floor for too long, death (or the reaper) will catch up to you 🤯🤯🤯 showing how we have no time to waste
