P5R is my first experience with a blind playthrough. So when I noticed there's a bunch of unique character models sprinkled here and there I was a bit surprised. When I saw Haru in the story I thought "hey, you've been in the background a lot"
It's a really small change that I personally like. I don't remember if the original P3 did this, but P3R has a lot of social link characters hanging about in town during the Prologue, almost like the game is teasing you on the colorful people you'll meet.

I had this in my notes but didn't mention it since it happens quite a bit in Royal in different areas and different examples of this concept can even be seen in the footage. Since there's bigger examples of foreshadowing (Like the Kasumi death one) I figured that'd be better to encompass the concept, but maybe I should've made that more clear

You're probably referring to the fact you get to keep the gun in Royal, and it happens before you start Iwai's confidant. I didn't mention it only because its more of a confidant change than story change. Though, the guts requirement and way the confidant starts is still the same. In both cases its still asking about the bag, more accurately, why there was a heavily modified gun in it, since at that point you're used to Iwai only having non-modified airsoft guns. Obviously you go on to show interest in modifying weapons when and Iwai's confidant starts.

(havent secured the route to the treasure, havent sent the calling card, and the stress of being uncertain the change of heart will occur in time [after successful palace destruction]). The level of variance changes, but there is often a pretty large gap between the ones in which the palace is still standing and the uncertainty after the palace crumbles. The train platform scenes in particular often act as reminders and ways to commit to palace infiltration (or more accurately, going straight to the hideout when the day free-time block starts) before the palace falls, and are basically just space fillers if the palace has fallen. Between deadlines are a bit more unique, but the occasional mementos ask functions the same way as "lets infiltrate the palace" scenes. Seeing party members about the town before they are unlocked also tend to have interesting gossip, and haru's during the kamoshida arc/prologue might be some of the most important as it is an easy to miss part of her character arc; for a confidant who's perks center around gardening, gardening itself is a new hobby she enters with trepidation as the semester you transfer into the school starts. Equally, it explains why the roof is unlocked despite being off limits to the general student body, which is a surprisingly important detail for the phantom thieves' call to action.

You comment on the scenes existing, but overlook the "why" that is answered by the fact each scene has multiple forms since you only experience the time filling variants. they dont have to be addressed directly if they lack any changes between versions, but there were plenty of ways to acknowledge the existence of the variants so that such confusion at the sentiment of their uselessness did not occur. "since we already cleared the palace, we have a meaningless train platform conversation." instead of "and on this day, we start with a meaningless train conversation". The difference is subtle, but it is enough to tell whether the variants are being acknowledged. Haru is the more interesting point in my book, as it is her gossip that stands out to me on replays more than any other party preview rumors. I cant personally speak on its "differences", beyond seeing others mention that the conversations are exclusive to royal, but the context it gives to the first act and haru as a character stand out far more than "oooh look: castle windows are sparkly and sound as such in base game". Ive only heard tales of the base game complaints, but the 2 big ones are bedtime warden morgana and haru not really having time to become a character outside of confidant ranks and extended media (like strikers or the animation). Well, haru's first arc gossip is one way to address the latter complaint. Guess i'll just have to wait for the confidant changes video that could also fit that change in nicely.
You missed something on the day where Shiho jumps. When Ryuji is telling you to go and see what's going on, his dialogue is now voiced, as is the smaller dialogue of him trying to go through people.
Shout out to RUclips ads and their comedic timing in this video. Every time you said something along the lines of “take a listen” or indicated there was some footage following to listen/watch, RUclips threw in an add. It was kinda hilarious.
I might be misremembering, but didn't Kawakami in Royal accidentally almost show the maid service pamphlet to Joker when she gives you your student ID? I don't remember it being in Vanilla.
Fuckk That's a good detail but its so subtle that I must've missed it (The dialogue isn't even different, it's just shown under the ID and there's an extra animation of Kawakami quickly swiping it back). I'll try to mention it at the beginning of the next video in the series

I wonder if Takemi's original voice was a Trauma Center reference? Trauma Center is another Atlus series about doctors, and a reoccuring main character shares Takemi's voice actor- it's easy to hear if you look up Naomi's gameplay/story from Trauma Team. This isn't the only Trauma Center, or specifically Trauma Team, reference in the game either. Music from Trauma Team and Trauma Center: New Blood is used during some of the doctor movies Joker can watch at home. And the specific chest scan on Takemi's wall is from a Diagnosis section in Trauma Team. (The other scans on her wall might be too but it's hard to say.) So I wouldn't be surprised if Takemi's original English VA was chosen based on the fact that VA had already voiced a female doctor before.

So many people at this point were introduced to the game via Royal, including people I know, so I'll for sure be sharing this. Honestly I got to a point where I felt a little insane, with Royal being the common experience now I was starting to doubt my memory on what all was changed. While there's little things I prefer and would enjoy experiencing again, such as the plot feeling tighter to me without Kasumi and Maruki, it's hard to justify playing the version without all the QOL tweaks, especially with Morgana making sure you can't do anything most nights. A video like this lets me revisit and reminisce without the annoyances, so I really appreciate it
It's Pretty admirable that Atlus could have been like most devs nowadays! Doing the activision special of the copy and paste method, and add a small amount of stuff like the dlc clothing and ship the game off! But they went far and beyond that concept, and that alone deserves them so much respect!

hoo boy alot to say, first off, thank you for making this video, I'm a player that could only start playing after persona 5 went multiplatform so i never had the chance to even see the original so i was always wondering the amount that's actually enhanced and this is pretty much the most fun way and at least largely comprehensive now for the content i am delighted to know that royal has added so many more voiced scenes because p3 reload was so chock full of voice acting i felt spoiled so it's interesting to know that it didn't come out of nowhere but is a pattern of increased efforts. truly it feels like the games are getting higher and higher in quality both gameplay and presentation-wise, something that's a benefit of having a long running series. so for showing me all of that i thank you, even in gaming quality has been going up and down so its always nice to see when its more of a rising trend then another valley

For the change for Takemi’s Clinic logo being changed in Royal, I can’t confirm but a likely theory is that the logo in Vanilla looks very similar to the logo of the Red Cross and was changed for legal reasons to avoid affiliation. This has been done before in video games where the Japanese version of EarthBound has a Red Cross logo on hospitals, but was changed in localized versions to avoid affiliation. My best guess is that they changed the logo to distinct itself further from the Red Cross.
I just saw you forgot to mention the early Maid Kawakami foreshadowing during the first school visit which was added in Royal! A few of the newly added scenes in Royal first appeared in the anime including the Maid Kawakami foreshadowing.
7:29 gonna point this out WAY too early, but just in case. UIM, when you get to this moment later, if you change the battle music, this scene will also have it(mass destruction, lone prayer, groovy, etc)
The kaleidoscope effect in Royal not only changes as you move, but you can also actually see the things around you in the kaleidoscope image.(ex: if you walk by Ryuji in P5R, you can actually see him in the kaleidoscope)
So the EX Kamoshida reminds me of the EX bosses in the Mario and Luigi games where you can refight stronger alt colour versions of bosses so the theory that bosses would appear in challenge battle holds water imo as other games have done similar things, maybe it would also depend on having the will seeds?
I never realized just how much added voice acting is in Royal. would’ve been cool if social links were fully voiced but that probably would’ve taken a lot of time.
Great video! Although I think there's something you've missed near the end of the Arc. It's not really a key story event, but when you're choosing the name of the group in the restaurant, in Royal, there's an easter egg that's absent in the Vanilla game where if you follow Ann's suggestion to name the group "The Diamonds" then she has special dialogue to reflect that. You also repeated the thing about the crossword puzzle differences at 1:02:45 and 1:19:31.
45:00 i think for most vents it was definitely hand holding but there were some that were really hard to find and i either had to stumble around a bit or look it up. This didnt help in really large areas of palaces where i didnt know what to do next and almost had to search an entire chunk of it for a tiny hole on in the top corner of some random room
I never played Vanilla P5, but I believe Atlus could've and should've included the original's opening with *Wake Up, Get Up, Get Out There* in Royal to go alongside Royal's opening with *Colors Flying High* .
It'd be nice if they included the opening that goes along with it as well. The original is really gorgeous and shows off the characters better imo (Royal's opening reminds me of P4 Golden, where it feels slightly compromised in the name of advertising new features). It'd be cool if the original opening could occasionally play after sitting on the title screen
Tbh this is one of the things I really am enjoying about royal. I love replaying these palaces I'm familiar with and encountering all these small little new things everywhere
I have a few things I noticed, but one of them is a difference that both P5 and Royal from PS4 has from Royal anywhere else: The button layout. The cuttout in the PS4 version is round, while it's kind of... exagonal in the new release? Also, I dunno if you mentioned but P5 has auto-scroll for dialog BUT only in the options. P5R has it as a quick option during any dialog. Another change I noticed is that in the battles, you have to press X three times in Vanilla to go through all items won, while Royal display all of them at once. Finally one thing that I HATE they removed from Royal AND eventually from P3R is the fact that you don't have an in-game menu for writting your name. You have to use the system keyboard or on PC, the actuall keyboard instead. I like how P5 and P5R on PS4 have the menus in-game and they removed for no reason.
Had to do a double take at around 1:19:50 you re-go over how crossword puzzles are different in persona 5 royal when it was covered previous at around 1:02:00
Vanilla crosswords piss me off so much I had to mention the change twice lol. In reality, I probably did this by accident but at least the second time it's a little more in depth so it is what it is 🙃
One detail i noticed is that in royal your party members are staying behind while in vanilla 2 of your party members are in running in front at both left and right sides

It's honestly a huge disservice to the localization team to not mention that there are like a million rewrites in Royal to make sentences actually sound like real English instead of the original which has a LOT of grammatical errors. There are like twenty fixes in the first hour of the game alone.
Crazy how that new character was given so much screen time from the jump, compared to a certain other 'main cast member' introduced verrrryy late in the vanilla version

For the change for Takemi’s Clinic logo being changed in Royal, I can’t confirm but a likely theory is that the logo in Vanilla looks very similar to the logo of the Red Cross and was changed for legal reasons to avoid affiliation. This has been done before in video games where the Japanese version of EarthBound has a Red Cross logo on hospitals, but was changed in localized versions to avoid affiliation. My best guess is that they changed the logo to distinct itself further from the Red Cross.
I just saw you forgot to mention the early Maid Kawakami foreshadowing during the first school visit which was added in Royal! A few of the newly added scenes in Royal first appeared in the anime including the Maid Kawakami foreshadowing.
7:29 gonna point this out WAY too early, but just in case. UIM, when you get to this moment later, if you change the battle music, this scene will also have it(mass destruction, lone prayer, groovy, etc)

The kaleidoscope effect in Royal not only changes as you move, but you can also actually see the things around you in the kaleidoscope image.(ex: if you walk by Ryuji in P5R, you can actually see him in the kaleidoscope)

So the EX Kamoshida reminds me of the EX bosses in the Mario and Luigi games where you can refight stronger alt colour versions of bosses so the theory that bosses would appear in challenge battle holds water imo as other games have done similar things, maybe it would also depend on having the will seeds?
I never realized just how much added voice acting is in Royal. would’ve been cool if social links were fully voiced but that probably would’ve taken a lot of time.
Great video! Although I think there's something you've missed near the end of the Arc.
It's not really a key story event, but when you're choosing the name of the group in the restaurant, in Royal, there's an easter egg that's absent in the Vanilla game where if you follow Ann's suggestion to name the group "The Diamonds" then she has special dialogue to reflect that.
You also repeated the thing about the crossword puzzle differences at 1:02:45 and 1:19:31.

45:00 i think for most vents it was definitely hand holding but there were some that were really hard to find and i either had to stumble around a bit or look it up. This didnt help in really large areas of palaces where i didnt know what to do next and almost had to search an entire chunk of it for a tiny hole on in the top corner of some random room

I never played Vanilla P5, but I believe Atlus could've and should've included the original's opening with *Wake Up, Get Up, Get Out There* in Royal to go alongside Royal's opening with *Colors Flying High* .

It'd be nice if they included the opening that goes along with it as well. The original is really gorgeous and shows off the characters better imo (Royal's opening reminds me of P4 Golden, where it feels slightly compromised in the name of advertising new features).
It'd be cool if the original opening could occasionally play after sitting on the title screen

I have a few things I noticed, but one of them is a difference that both P5 and Royal from PS4 has from Royal anywhere else: The button layout. The cuttout in the PS4 version is round, while it's kind of... exagonal in the new release?
Also, I dunno if you mentioned but P5 has auto-scroll for dialog BUT only in the options. P5R has it as a quick option during any dialog.
Another change I noticed is that in the battles, you have to press X three times in Vanilla to go through all items won, while Royal display all of them at once.
Finally one thing that I HATE they removed from Royal AND eventually from P3R is the fact that you don't have an in-game menu for writting your name.
You have to use the system keyboard or on PC, the actuall keyboard instead. I like how P5 and P5R on PS4 have the menus in-game and they removed for no reason.

When I played Royal for the first time I thought Maruki was in the original. I was like WTF when a whole ass palace and 30 hours of gameplay came from how social link
It's honestly a huge disservice to the localization team to not mention that there are like a million rewrites in Royal to make sentences actually sound like real English instead of the original which has a LOT of grammatical errors. There are like twenty fixes in the first hour of the game alone.
The retranslation is mentioned in the first video, but some examples are given in this one
