  • An introduction to kitbashing as well as a reminder of why it so much fun. I kitbash Ydrastra from Age of Sigmar, explaining the concept of kitbashing, the tools needed and some things to have in mind when kitbashing.

I am relatively new to the hobby, and have never kitbashed before. As a woman in this hobby, I often struggle to find miniatures I can connect with, and have been wanting to alter some minis for some time. I found this video useful and inspiring - thank you so much!

Sorry if this is help/advice that you dont want or need but bad squiddo games might be one to look at. They have a lot of female minis and the ceo pushes female representation in the hobby :)

The influx of RPG miniatures also makes it a bit easier to find fitting female models. A lot of sculptors deviate from "overly sexy" female fantasies. There are also all lot of printing services.

I've had the same issue, I'm always trying to buy kits with female heads to collect And I use them to convert male models since... Well... You wouldn't be able to see a pair of boobs under all this padding and armor especially at this scale.
I do have quite the collection of female heads that I've sourced from various kits now though ^^ (Please don't take this out of context)

What a great vid for inspiring GW hobbyists who've so far only built to the instructions, it shouldn't be so off putting to make an expensive kit into your own take.
This was a lovely balance of structural substitution and aesthetic tinkering and such a thoughtful introduction. Genuinely information dense with powerful tricks like mixing milliput and greenstuff but never feeling like it because Alex naturally embodies both earnest and laid back all at the same time.
Another inspiring hobby signpost to a more imaginative game!

Something I do with my leftover sculpting material is make it into a ball and use it to fill big cervices in kitbashes the balls can also be cu in half to make bubbles for your lava, swamp, and toxic waste bases I also place unusable bits in crevices before I ass the filling material just to make myself use less sculpting material this saving some money.

When a miniature company or a 3D artist says that their products are compatible with other miniatures, take that with a very light pinch of salt.
The reason I have ended up with the amount of spare bits that I currently have, is because I tried mixing and matching different parts for different armies/characters, only to find out that the parts don't fit properly.

Hi Alex, looking at you doing kitbash seems so easy, but, may I ask a question? Why sword and spear? It seems strange, and how will you paint the hidden parts, now that you glued the wings on her back? Thanks

    • @52Miniatures

The sword and spear is her standard loadout. The spear is more of a ranged weapon… kind of like the AoS version of a sniper rifle. I’m not sure I follow you about the hard to get at bits?
