  • Justin Hayward: The Harmony Tour 2023, Carnegie of Homestead Music Hall, Munhall, PA. "Nights in White Satin" from the 1967 Moody Blues Album "Days of Future Passed". Accompanying Justin was his amazing touring band, consisting of Guitarist Mike Dawes, Flutist Karmen Gould (also Backing Vocals) and Julie Ragins (Keyboards / Backing Vocals), who was unfortunately obscured from my view by a tower of speakers during the entire show.

Last time I saw them all in concert was in Cincinatti, in the late 90's, before Ray retired. I treasure each and every concert, I could see them all together.

Had to Get my Ticket stubs out... Last Time I saw the Moodies was at the Coca Cola Star Lake Amphitheatre on June 19, 1994, with the "Pittsburgh Festival Orchestra" . I'm guessing that they put together a "Festival Orchestra" at each city that they played during that tour. 🎵
I see that on June 9th, 1994, they played the Riverbend Music Center in Cincinnati, OH, so maybe You were at that Tour as well!

Spellbinding!! U.S. Copyright Act of 1976, sec. 304(c) can restore his copyrights to this song beginning next year (2024). It’s been 56 years since he wrote this tune, which is when “clawback” rights kick in. This is how Sir Paul finally got the rights back to “Love Me Do” et. al, a few years back. Legal fees may be high. Fans could help with Kickstarter.
Great video, Thx! We saw his show in Manhattan on his birthday. Sublime!

Thank you for the “copyright” history re: these and other songs… I knew about the well-publicized Paul McCartney battle to regain ownership of his own songs; I also knew that many, many other artists, especially from the 50’s & 60’s, were “swindled” out of royalties for songs they had written, but I did not know that Justin fell into that category as well…Thanks for enlightening me on the subject!

@@pops_place Justin Hayward’s story is the worst. At around 17, broke, looking for a gig, and not wanting to go back to living with his parents after his stint with The Wilde Three ended, he accepted £50 from Lonnie Donegan, to sign a publishing deal. Unwittingly, he signed away his copyrights to whatever he wrote for the next 8 years. 2 years later he wrote “Nights in White Satin”, and the following string of hits. Lonnie Donegan made £1 million from “Nights…”. I believe 7th Sojourn was the first album where his compositions aren’t credited to Tyler Publishing, Donegan’s company. “The Actor”, “Watching and Waiting”, “Question”, are not owned by JH. I think they’re now owned by Sony/ATV, which gobbles up artists’ catalogues. They’re the same group that owned McCartney’s copyrights. There is only a 5-year window to petition the court to get those copyrights back. This would cover all royalties from all of the songs sold, reproduced or broadcast in the U.S., which is the Moody Blues largest market. “Nights…” is so beautiful, it’s a lover’s anthem, and will be covered by other artists for decades to come. JH and his heirs should benefit from that. Not some corporate slobs.

Wow… 😢…. Thanks for sharing Justin ‘s “backstory” with me… I love music, but I’m so glad I’m not in that business… I’m so happy that he was able to share his 77th Birthday with his fans…. Especially after what he went through… so many “Behind the Music” stories of musicians who were screwed by their managers, publishers, record companies, etc… that didn’t make it past their 20’s or 30’s, or died in poverty…. (I’m not including the ones who lived “excessive” lifestyles)…. Groups like “Badfinger” come to mind….
Anyway, I’m happy that each of us were able to enjoy a great performance from a Man whose timeless words and music will be a part of our lives forever, and live on for generations to come ☀️
