This classic never gets old..and whew Matthew McConaughey looked like a dream even back then..alright alright alright..
Oh WOW never even saw this video. And Matthew is so fine..
I grew up with this song. Been listening since the 90s, never knew it was Matthew in the video 😂❤ thank you for enlightening me I usually just listen .
I remember a time before we could have any song at our finger tips, listening for hours, sometimes days to hear this song
"Destined to deceive her, he's the wrong kinda paradise"...how those words hit deeply! Lyrics are just too beautiful!
It was a good thing she [the child in the song] got out just in time, before she turned 18, otherwise she mighta got caught up in all of his ridiculous thieving cratp... Love can't fix everything. Lucky 4 her she realized that.
OH YES❤❤
Wow, Matthew McConaughey and Don Henley. Two gorgeous and talented men from Texas in one video!
And the incompatible Tricia Yearwood. Have loved this song for years, how have I not seen this video?
I thought that was Mathew too! Are we right?
To EVERYONE listening to this, take every word in, chances are your going to go through this.
Us 55 year olds were pretty lucky to have such high quality country music in our teens and twenties playing on the radio.
Yes we had some great music to grow up too, 56.
Trisha and Don Henley are so good together. Don has done several duets and is always amazing.
For the most part, he lays back and simply accompanies her for the song. I hate Henley as a person, but David Geffen is right. Golden Throat is a great nickname for him. He's a fine singer, songwriter and musician. One of the best.
Sadly, so many of us had a Walkaway Joe in so many ways. Trisha's voice with Henley, is beautifully haunting.
Mine was a runaway Jane, it has been 35 years now and there is not a day I don't remember what she did to me.
@@Redbirds1100 29 years for me, I sadly have to say that it affected me even years later, two that might have been great relationships I purposely never allowed myself to let it get to that point for fear that it would happen again.
I totally agree. You expressed it so accurately.
I once had a walk away Joe way before I moved from home.
@@Redbirds1100 I'm so sorry about that.
"The cold hard truth revealed what it had known." Deep powerful lyric. Brilliant. It's describes the exact moment you feel the 'hook' you never knew was there. It knocks the breath out of you. Some never recover.
.
Absolutely- reminds me of both going through my own learning curve and paying my dues to the odds with inevitable heartaches. That very line was among the inspiration for me to learn to say no and let go. And indeed it was another lesson in life . On the flip side of “ fate’s got cards that it don’t want to show “ - after leaving my children’s mother in 16’ after 18 years of an abusive marriage- and my son and I a against the world .. I’d reconnected with old classmates- including my HS crush. Seems she’d been dealt a lot of these types much as I’d chosen poorly before too. We married in late 20 and couldn’t be happier .
"The hook" like a caught fish. A very apt metaphor
The line "She only wanted love, didn't bargain for this, she can't help but love him for the way he is" may be one of the most beautiful lines ever recorded. The way Trisha and Don's voices blend in the harmony is just perfection.
Sorry so long down the road
Beautiful lines hit me and stay with me too, it was lovely to see your comment about the line. And to understand how you felt about it!
He's the wrong kind of paradise
When I first heard it, I thought exactly the same thing. Just masterful how the voices become one. This is something that Don has spent a lifetime doing with the Eagles, and further examples of this are his duets with Stevie Nicks and Patty Smyth - "No Mistakes" is beautiful in this regard to.
I agree 100%
I wonder how old Matthew McConaughey was when he made this video
My first love was 1996 and was Identical to this song!💔💔💔 took years to get over
Mine was 1966 and I was pregnant when he walked away..beautiful daughter from it. He died last year and his wife and I are friends now. No, I don't think you ever get over your first love.
I always loved how her mom took her back into her arms. I thought I knew better when I was young and all I got was condemnation. That only left me vulnerable to more walk away Joe's.
Parents, love and forgive your children while they learn through their mistakes.
THIS!!!
I ended up marrying my walkaway Joe. I spent nearly six years being abused by him until I found the courage to leave him. My family also condemned me for my mistake. I ended up in the arms of an Air Force Sergeant 30 days after the divorce was finalized and that Air Force Sergeant and I have been married for almost 9 years.
@@megangoldstein7743 I'm glad you found your happy ending
VERY true. So very true.
I am grateful for my parents.
The thing I always liked about Don Henley was that he simply loved music
He sang back up for so many great female vocalists and he truly enjoyed it
Starting with the greatest; Linda Ronstadt.
You make it sound like he's dead.
Yeah he’s not dead Eric
yes I love sometimes love ain't enough. Pretty much if he is on a song you know it is going to be awesome!
A class act…
Trisha and Don's voices work really well together.
Yesss!
@@staceychutskoff1232Henley is such a great duet singer
Nailed this pairing...whoever wrote this is one helluva songwriter......
Greg Barnhill from Slidell, Louisiana!
Someone was really heartbroken and telling a truth that the world needs to hear before they feel it.
This is what real country music sounds like. I miss it.
BTW anyone notices Mathew McConaughey in this video?
I know I came here to see him in the video! He was a cutie! I mean, still is, but he was a good looking young man.
not till now!!!
I know, right? When I first saw this video, i thought it looked like him, and then I googled it and found out it's him! 😆
I’d never known that he was until I was told because he’s so young! But back then when I used to watch this video I bet I still said to myself the guy in this video is very goodlooking lol not knowing how well known he would be one day
By the way *
15 years after singing lead on "Hotel California," and Don Henley still has that perfect "sandpaper" voice. Perfect Harmony.
This is what I love about older country music. It tells a story.
True. Classic country ballads tell many different stories.
Exactly!!!
When credibility was still important and hypocrisy wasn’t the platform for Democrats
@@dhlake This song involves abduction of a minor and statutory rape because the girl is only 17. I can think of far better stories to be telling than that. Speaking of statutory rape, I believe Matt Gaetz is still being investigated for just that...
LOL! Older country music.. I'm 68 years old and every morning my dad was up at 4:30 am, making his breakfast with an AM country station on the radio. This is NOT "old" country music. It's really good music, don't get me wrong. It's not old though.. :)
My grandpa always told me that boy is a wrong kind of paradise
Matthew McConaughey! I've loved this song for years and just today realized he was in the video.
@honestj820lol, matt mcconaughey, not matt Leblanc
The legendary Don Henley on backup vocals, ladies and gentlemen!!
classic country at its best 80s and 90s are the way to go
Justin Jarrell cxxdm

Do we still have this excellence in what the radio plays today?
I wish real country would come back. I miss ole Hank, Gene, and The Sons of the Pioneers.
I couldn't agree more
@@hadmatter9240 that kind of country is so monotone and boring. Most of them couldn't actually sing and their voices just drone on. Haha. The 80s and 90s is when music started becoming real where people showed off their vocal abilities and ranges and didn't all sound the same and so untalented. Today's "music is too much pop and rap mixed in where it isn't real country anymore. The 90s was perfect for music of all kinds. Unfortunately I don't think country music will ever be country again like that, but at least it won't be boring, monotone and dull like the era of Hank Williams Sr, Jr, Willie Nelson, etc. So dull and boring ughhh
Mathew McConaughey at only 23 years old looks so handsome in this video
Gorgeous ❤
I'm obsessed with their harmony. I can't stop listening. ❤
Dynamic harmony
It goes without saying how great Miss Yearwood is but we can't ignore the brilliance of Henley.
not to mention it is Matthew McConaughey as he bf
Don Henley's voice just adds a rich dimension to hers that's fabulous. Love both of their voices.
I've never been a big Henley solo fan, but in this song, their voices are superb together.
I'm a huge Henley fan. Everything he's done has been remarkable and he adds nicely to this song.
@@pbhoidale I never heard a song he recorded I didn't like. And when he's backing another artist, oh lawd!
Agreed....another North Texas treasure
Amen. Here for it still,
August 2021. It just never gets old. I keep it on my 90s country playlist. I miss ALOT of 90s music.
But this??? This was a collaboration that was totally underrated for its time. It deserved much more recognition than it ever received. Such a shame.
These two angelic voices brought the lyrics to life.
Love them both, my parents raised me right so I grew up listening to the Eagles. And then nearly what? Approx 15-20yrs later Trisha comes out? Then this duet happened, and we fell in love with her (And Don!] even more. At least I did. And this will always be my 2nd favorite song of hers....but my #1 favorite will ALWAYS be-- "The Song Remembers When". The lyrics of that ballad, sang by her, again, angelic voice, just melts my heart. Think all of us have had a Walkaway Joe in our lives, and also a special moment in time where the song remembers the time in our life..... Can't imagine anyone but Trisha singing it either..... she makes those memories come to life and they reach out and touch your soul.
Sorry Garth, but I'd take seeing your wife in concert any day over seeing you! Haha! 😉✌
Pure poetry. What happened to country music in the 2000’s?
Trying to be "all inclusive"...
This song is 30 years old today and just as beautiful 🌺
That long ago already. I thought I was older then that... lol
It made a special appearance in Touched By An Angel.
An underrated song ❤!!
So many of have gone through this, if only we could protect our sons and daughters.....wonderful song and I love Trisha
Hi Kathleen hope you're okay?
I love the shot at the very end. There's nothing like a hug from your mother to make things all right again, no matter how old you are.

Things you learn as an adult: Momma never actually WANTED to be right about all the stuff she warned us. If their hearts break, yours do too!
My daughter is only six and her little heart was " broken" in first grade just about a month ago. And it was because she didnt get to be 1 of the 4 girls to go to this other little girl's bday party. My daughter still brings it up now, and because shes my only i feel everything for the first and only just the way she does! And 27 years after i saw another country legend in concert, i get to see Reba again in a few weeks in Raleigh, with my mom who i went with to that first reba concert as well.. My daughter loves reba, and trisha, but i dont let het listen to this particular type of song....I lived with her father in an abusive relationship and thank god i have my parents and they allowed me to move back home multiple times, including after they threw him out of their house a month after i had my daughter, they never threw me out. I chose to go with him knowing what he was already by that point, but i THOUGHT my daughter would be better with her parents together (mine are married 44 years this year). But after i moved 4 hours away and nothing got better and i left with my daughter just before covid hit (im a chef so i was out of work completely for 2 years). I now have full custody, but he can try and get that revised if i move out. I wish he would be a tru walk away joe. Because my daughter has to see him 2 times a month.
Exactly. It colors the judgment when you've gone through it and you raised your child not to do the things that you did and yet they do it anyway.
Because they think they know better than you do. They don't but they have to learn.
Not always my mom never hurt from my hurt I had a guy that really loved me and I believe to this day 20 years later he was my soul mate but she intentionally drove him away for fear of being an empty nester and her last child leaving home. She told me my only reason for being born was to take care of her for life since she gave me life.
@@reanamarsh Most Americans are too naive to acknowledge some mothers are complete garbage.
the 'Walkaway Joe' notes that Don Henley hits at 3:47 nails me every time - how come I can't hit them notes - pretty song.
Always my favorite part too 😊
Don still smoked cigarettes, back then, too.
Born 1982 I miss these days 😢
I had the honor of being 20 feet away from Trisha when she first came out at a little crappy bar in Oxford, AL when nobody knew who she was. Still have my autographed cassette tape! I knew she was going to be big! Never knew she was going to be iconic, Garth Brook's wife big but I knew it is soon as I heard her voice!
We’re showing our age when we mention cassettes lol. My kids look at me like I’m crazy heaven forbid mentioning an 8-track!

Matthew McConaughey looks and was sooo young in this video. I didn't realize it was even him until tonight..... Trisha still has one of the best voices I've ever heard.

DAMN THESE OLD COUNTRY SONGS!!!! Pulling on my heart strings.
I went through a period of absolutely loving country music. There was a time in the early 90s where the songwriting was pristine, pure and truthful ("new country") Love, Love, love this song!
Hi Rose
Yep 🤔
I that really is your name.... I love it... You speak the truth.... This is just stunning
Is anyone in 2025 right now listening to this????
From Fiji here....sitting out at the porch and staring out into the horizon on a sunny Friday afternoon.....
From Wisconsin. Always will be listening to 90s country. What a decade for all music, but especially country.

The pain of someone leaving you when they made you so happy can never be described. But this song comes damn close
God bless you such lovely couple 😁 i wish you all the best in the world
About the same as a loved one dying
I messed up 2 relationships. The first love. Her parents found out my real age.we were 3 years apart. An my mom said maybe y'all should break up an get back together later when y'all get older.
Well I did that. The girl didn't want me back the next week. It broke my heart afterwards cause she didn't want me back. Young love. 18 an 16. She was a dime. I doll baby. I fell into depression for a long time. Found a new girl. Lasted a year. I quit the relationship after a year due to thinking about my first love. I been paying the price going on 10 years now. So it ain't the same game out there. It hurts more on some days. God bless you an your husband. It's hard to start over again when it ain't easy like it use to be. I hope I find someone soon. My heart hurts every day.
Sometimes that's the problem though. You shouldn't let them become your world
This song just has a really special place in my heart ... 26 yrs ago my husband bought me this CD .
Hi Leslie hope you're okay?
This song was my introduction to Trisha (we only had CMT in the UK for a couple of years), and I fell in love with her voice instantly, and the girl can do no wrong. I have all her albums, but this remains my favourite track despite its' unfortunate subject. To my mind this was her defining moment.
I had no idea that Henley ever sang the second part to this song...what harmony!
Thanks for your love and support . It's a huge pleasure to know that I have got real fans.
May God continue to bless you. Kindly send me a direct message 7069932413

"Don Henley" and "Tricia Yearwood" create a classic masterpiece! A country ballad that evokes every sense of sentimentality nostalgia and romance personified and heartfelt. Feel the Love!

I don't know if I'd call it country. It sounds more like an Eagles song (for good reason).
Why did you put quotation marks around their names? Lol
@@apriljefferson43 I was wondering the same thing. I was like wait what? 🤔🤔🤔
I don't listen to much country music, but this song is simply masterful! An incredible blend of vocals, and lyrically, a masterpiece. Wow......
Trisha and Don should have done so many more duets together!
What a great emotional true song and video. Sounds like a dobro in there. Listen to the piano treatment. Don's harmony is perfect for it. What amazing writing, singing, music and production. Trisha did wonderful! Such maturity-wisdom, beauty and richness in her vocals.
Goosebumps... literally....

Beautiful song written by Greg Barnhill. I just had the joy of meeting him in Nashville last week. Such an humble guy.

Oh the innocence of youth highlighted in this song!! So many girls/women get attracted to the "bad boy" and don't understand what this will mean. Love the vocals with the great singer Don Henley. The importance of the song is to learn not to repeat the same mistake by always hooking up with the "walkaway joes" we are attracted to in life.
I'm sure there were just as many Walkaway Janes...I'm curious to hear about those experiences as well.

I definitely agree. Don Henley is freaking hot.
Trisha Yearwood should earn a Lifetime Achievement Award for her music.
Absolutely, Alden, you're so right! She really is a country music, story-telling, smooth voiced angel and country music needs her. Modern country is getting a bit too pop to be called country. And we need more retro country songs! Trisha is a country jewel!

Trust me, I've seen plenty of bad stuff much much worse than what's on social media, also 11 year olds aren't as dumb as ya think. We know there's no Easter Bunny or Santa Claus and stuff. We also know that the world is a really terrible place with people doing drugs and stuff. But yes, I can see where you're coming from
