This fits our history so well. My husband died two years ago after more than sixty one years...back in the 90's my line dancing group danced to this song, always my favorite. What I wouldn't give to have a few more years with him. Love you, honey!
As a fan of all types of music from all eras (admittedly, mostly rock), it will always be impossible to single out a particular song as my "favorite". With that being said, this song comes pretty damn close to winning the title. Aside from being an unbelievably catchy tune, the verse that begins at 2:53 is simply one of the best verses ever put to tape in the history of recorded music. If anyone needs an example of how to write a well-crafted lyric and deliver a well placed hook, look no further. This is songwriting genius.
I love how the dad keeps criticising Tommy and then the mom turns around and says "Well actually my dad thought you weren't worthy of my love and had s**t for brains but us girls are stubborn, completely ignore our fathers and still prove him wrong!" xx
I had a crush on a young man named Tommy when I was in 2nd grade and my name is Katie. He grew up to be an outstanding person his wife is very lucky to have him. Even back then I knew he was a good person .
My daddy and I both loved this song. This song was our song. My daddy passed away almost 2 years ago. R.I.P. Daddy. I still listen to this song because it reminds me of you.
So much nostalgia with this song. Was just starting kindergarten when the song came out and remember turning the volume up all the way when it would come on CMT in the mornings while getting ready for school. Miss the 90s so much.
It amazed me when I went to the Garth Brooks tour in 2017 and 30,000 people were singing this song and "XXXs and OOOs" at the top of their lungs. Really made you realize the impact Trisha Yearwood had on country music.
I never realized how old this song was, I listened to it a lot and loved it growing up. I was born in 1999, wow! Hey I was raised with some of the best music!
+Ashley Holbrook .....almost ..you dont know the music from the mid 90s..just like i dont remember the music in the mid 80s lol you can almost claim it ;)
One of the most underrated songs ever. After my dad passed away I went to a Kenny Rodgers concert with my mom , and this great artist Tricia Yearwood opened for him and that is the first time I heard this amazing song
Love Trisha’s voice so beautiful I miss this era of Country music. It helped me and my mom go through her cancer together when I was a child. She survived and is in remission since 98.
Michael Miller It really was! We do still have some great artists - Robert Earl, Guy Clark, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Fred Eaglesmith, and on and on - but funny enough, they're all from (or were active during) the same era!! But there is too much mainstream pop music touting itself as country these days.
Country has always reflected the era it's from. Most country songs from the late 1970s and early 1980s sounded more like disco songs to the untrained ear.
i agree, i was born in the early 90's, so i a grew up with the songs that were in circulation in the mid 90's, and early years of the 2000's, and my mind acts like if just found gold nugget, rightfully so i would argue, when i hears songs from that era. though i will also say that johnny cash is pure gold.
After I proposed to my boyfriend a few weeks ago, I had this song in my head. We are getting married in a few days! My parents disapproved of him at first, but they saw how much in love I am!
All the best to you BOTH❤️🤍💙 My fiancé getting married this summer; both of us divorced once already, so this not our 1st rodeo…😅‼️‼️‼️ God Bless you both; may this go-round be y’all’s 1st & last, till death do you part…😘‼️‼️‼️
My Mama said this song was the story of my life! She made sure we played it at our wedding, almost 30 years ago. We'd been together 4 years by then. High school sweethearts to the end! My father finally came around! They are both gone now, but I remember them when I hear this song. Glad you were right and Papa was wrong, Ma! lol Miss y'all so much.
I sure do miss the 70s, 80s and 90s. The music today is not even the same. Sometimes I wish I could find a time machine and go back in time. Life was much easier and everyone enjoyed life! Is this your favorite song?
Didn't grow up in The South, and not a fan of contemporary country, but I gotta admit: this song is pretty amazing. Late 80's and 90's country is way underrated. I always wondered why SiriusXM had a dedicated 80's/90's country station (Prime Country), now I know why. ;) How does this song not have more views?
+Guy Heller Because everyone alive right now are dumbasses. These songs reflect my environment growing up. City people would die for the simple life if they still made the same money. It's fun!
Jimbo Mitchell I envy that. You're probably right, though. The country always makes me wish I lived there. There's more in the countryside to relish than anything a city could ever provide. Darn these Brooks Bros. wingtips...
A younger vision of Trisha, just gorgeous as she brings forward her classic ! After all their trials, so glad to see the Trisha & Garth lasting hookup as soulmates...
In Aug 1991 I saw Trisha open for Garth Brooks during Cheyenne Frontier Days (The World's Largest Outdoor Rodeo and "The Daddy of "em All"). On the flyer that was passed out as we were walking to our seats, her name was misspelled - Trisha Yarwood - so at first, I didn't recognize who she was. While she was singing her first or second song, I leaned over to my wife and said: "Wow, she has a great voice. All she needs is one great song and she's going to be a superstar." Before she sang her next song, someone came to the front of the stage and said Trisha's next song just hit Billboard #1 - and then she sang "She's in Love with the Boy". Pretty sure I told my wife - "I told you she's going to be a superstar!"
Like a young girl would ask, before a date- What should I wear? I know church is a safe place, well , when I think about it- I'm sorry to the families for their loss in the tragedy in that church, & to those who also are missing their fathers today. So what I wear is a worry nothing compared to that. Much Love!!
Alan McConnell :):):), just like other kinds of music, I don't like all songs, just the good ones. LMAO. Sweetie, you can listen to all kinds of music .
This song inspired me to name my baby girl "Katie" Just so I can dedicate it to her when she gets older, all though her daddy is in heaven, she knows he would never approve any boy to take our little girl!!
My first boyfriend used to sing this to me all the time, he would change the line she's inlove with the boy to he's inlove with the boy. He died two years later, I've never forgotten him and I never will.
Last night I had a dream about my first boyfriend ( he was the first one to have my heart and he always will ) he told me in the dream that he's watching over me making sure I'm safe and not getting hurt. I told my mom about it this morning she said it was just a very nice dream. I told her in the dream he called me by his special name for me and when I woke up my bedroom smelled just like him. She and my dad really liked him and it didn't matter to them he was inlove with their son.
Anyone who says the world is just a bunch of particles bouncing around has not heard this song. You have to work very hard to miss the beauty that surrounds you. Thanks Trisha.
I will always love this song brings back memories of when I was younger and my mom was alive me and her loved country music and I'll always play this song in her memory ❤️❤️❤️
90’ County holds a sentimental connection and comfort zone for me … the time my husband and I were dating . The best year and a half ever , Country Concerts , he was dancing with the devil with the Fire Company and working his ass off . We don’t have the “ name “ connection with the song, but we do with a very popular movie of that time … If anybody remembers The Bodyguard, Rachel & Frank - well , that’s us . This song was very popular while we were riding the country roads of York County Pennsylvania…. Heck we’d go anywhere.. the gas was cheaper !
Yeah and notice how she puts him on blast only to him and saves it for the important stuff. Let your husband be the head of the household but also make sure to tell him, and only him, when you think he's wrong.
I sang this at karaoke night at a local gay bar - pretty much everyone was singing along with every chorus. If you've ever loved a boy, you feel this song in your bones. ❤
I'm glad I've had time to reflect on the origins of stuff and how it got to be that way. Even if im wrong it's partly right. This is a good one I'd like to hear from somebody someday but not today. Been fun. Later
I don't think this is the country anyone hates. I feel this is more just stuff that isn't someone's preference. It's the really slow old country or the new country pop that I've heard people actually complain about.
@@BAKER22-l4u wasn't being judgemental. I understand not everyone is gonna like the same type of music I do, hell half the songs I listen to my family either doesn't know or like and that's ok

This kind of music really needs to come back to the world

My daddy and I both loved this song. This song was our song. My daddy passed away almost 2 years ago. R.I.P. Daddy. I still listen to this song because it reminds me of you.
I am so sorry for your loss
My parents played a lot of country music when I was a kid. This song really takes me back.
"Katie looks at Tommy like I still look at you" is one of the greatest lines in a country song ever imo.
I like that line too. It’s normal for a father to think that no man is good enough for his daughter, but good men do exist.

An excellent performance from Trisha Yearwood and extraordinary songwriting from Jon Ims. That last verse pulls it together brilliantly.

It amazed me when I went to the Garth Brooks tour in 2017 and 30,000 people were singing this song and "XXXs and OOOs" at the top of their lungs. Really made you realize the impact Trisha Yearwood had on country music.
I’m not a fan of country music, but This is a great song. She really catches the essence of young love in a small country town. Great job, Trish.

One of the last songs, in my opinion, before popular country turned into straight up pop music. This was a good era for country music.
Agreed - the late 80s and early 90s was the last of the good country
Michael Miller It really was! We do still have some great artists - Robert Earl, Guy Clark, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Fred Eaglesmith, and on and on - but funny enough, they're all from (or were active during) the same era!! But there is too much mainstream pop music touting itself as country these days.
Country has always reflected the era it's from. Most country songs from the late 1970s and early 1980s sounded more like disco songs to the untrained ear.
Armin Jorgenson Look up I don't dance by lee brice.
he seems true country
i agree, i was born in the early 90's, so i a grew up with the songs that were in circulation in the mid 90's, and early years of the 2000's, and my mind acts like if just found gold nugget, rightfully so i would argue, when i hears songs from that era. though i will also say that johnny cash is pure gold.
Trisha is probably the most underrated female country vocalist of all time.
I think you got the short end of the stick if you believe she's underrated.
Scott Murphy,
I always rated her pretty highly in my list of favorites.

It's fun!
Jimbo Mitchell
I envy that. You're probably right, though. The country always makes me wish I lived there. There's more in the countryside to relish than anything a city could ever provide. Darn these Brooks Bros. wingtips...

Soulmates who were married to other people. Don't forget that part
Such a sweet, innocent song, with great lines.
Isn't that how Father's become Father's --Happy Fathers Day to all you daddy's out there.
Like a young girl would ask, before a date- What should I wear? I know church is a safe place, well , when I think about it- I'm sorry to the families for their loss in the tragedy in that church, & to those who also are missing their fathers today.
So what I wear is a worry nothing compared to that. Much Love!!

My favorite line from the song, "what's meant to be will always find a way". At 61 years old, I see how true this is.
This song inspired me to name my baby girl "Katie"
Just so I can dedicate it to her when she gets older, all though her daddy is in heaven, she knows he would never approve any boy to take our little girl!!
Hello👋 Dee. How are you doing? Hope you’re fine. I’m Zack Hudson and am from Denver Colorado. Where are you from? You seem like a real country girl
I love good music, Especially this one. My colleague at work recommended this to me today and I'm glad I've found it lol
Wouldn't consider myself a country music fan but this is a favourite of mine.

How can ANYONE hate on this type of country? It's so relaxing and easy to get lost in
I'm glad I've had time to reflect on the origins of stuff and how it got to be that way.
