Thing is the whole test team is just rookies with no real flight hour in combat, and the shit thing is in the emergency they didn't pass Burning basicly the second best thing they got to the gundam, not that it mattered since he got upgraded with GM custom anyway but its bad practice to pass newer pilots the best stuff available.
@@Errorcutive in many cases, the prototypes are far more powerful than the final design since most features/parts etc. get scaled down to allow mass production of units and parts.

It's a great battle where you can feel the performance difference between Powered GM and Zaku! The expression that it is difficult to aim with a machine gun is also interesting. It's surprising how easily Dom can beat him.
Is a sneak attack, unless the pilot is a new type there is no way anyone can react that fast. I mean in the original novel even Amuro was taken out by a grunt and died a unceremonious death, so if is up to Tomino anyone is fair game.
I wish more of Gundam took place on the ground. The fights have so much more _impact_ under gravity. What's especially galling to me is that later Gundam series (SEED, 00 once the newer MS come in, G-Reco, etc...) that take part largely on Earth just have every MS fly instead, aerodynamics be damned. Just let the giant robots use their legs for something other than takeoff, landing, dramatic poses and Char Kicks for a change... (This is also one reason I loved IBO so much. Things have _weight_ in that timeline.)
Back then i got a 0079 movie and saw how amuro bitchslapped a zaku to death, and tow it by the monoeye. The whole thing is sooo much nicer to watch than Freedom beamspamming back in 2005. The whole slap and tow had more weight to the whole thing. The Sword version of both strike and impulse get the least screen time. because animating a whole body movement of a anti ship sword swing and dodge or parry to react against it cost more than a beam rifle blip and explosion on the other end.
To be fair, almost every weapon in IBO are physical weapon, not a beam saber, that's why it have 'weight' Besides, animating ground movements actually need more effort than just drawing some poses. You have to adjust the size of the Mecha and the background, draw the storyboard, drawing every movement of the limbs, adjust the frame of the Mecha with each other's, etc.
I agree everything except the last sentence.... IBO's animation didn't drew well, even the director admit it's hard to draw walking/running MS, thus they just did the least&lame
