- The Zaku III Custom is essentially the basic, modular AMX-011 Zaku III fitted with various optional parts to enhance its performance. Danton's unit features an all-red color scheme reminiscent of Char Aznable's MS. In addition, it retained the original Zaku III's backpack and knee armor, and was equipped with a Beam Machine Gun originally used by the AMS-119 Geara Doga. In U.C. 0096, after the Laplace Conflict, a Zaku III Custom appeared during the events as depicted in Mobile Suit Gundam Twilight Axis. This unit was built by Arlette Almage, and was meant for Char Aznable's use, although he opted for the Sazabi instead. The unit was later stored for research purposes in a mobile suit hangar located underneath a residential area in Axis. The prototype unit was later abandoned following the end of Char's Rebellion. Later, when Mastema was attacked by Birnam forces, the unit was hastily reactivated by Arlette for veteran test pilot Danton Hyleg's use. During its fight with the RX-78AN-01 Gundam AN-01 "Tristan", the unit managed to damage the Tristan and destroy its Beam Rifle. After the battle the unit's OS was formatted and the unit permanently disabled, as it was too large to bring with them.

If you are wondering why such a gundam like the Tristan felt so weak:
The Tristan is an Alex Gundam that's been repaired with parts from various generations of mobile suits, effectively making it a Frankenstein's monster of a mobile suit.
Despite being especially modern for its time, the Alex is now an outdated frame.
The Zaku III is a predecessor to the Geara Doga, designed in the first Neo Zeon War. It was a pretty beefy MS for its time. Plus, this particular Zaku III was intended for Char, an improvement on its own.
Two Years Update: Hi, I was reminded of this fight and wanted to explain the differences between these suits further.
The Tristan is a Late OYW-era MS refurbished with junk parts and some Gundam parts. Overall, it does seem to have improved in performance slightly, but the age and way of thinking within the original frame persist. An OYW Gundam now might be considered a light or medium-lightweight MS with below-average armor, average speed, and decent precision.
The Zaku III Custom is a First Neo-Zeon era MS with above-average performance at best. It was built after the revelation of movable frame tech and likely has an inherent advantage in maneuverability, precision, and speed.
The UC universe is interesting in how an MS built one year can be completely obsolete in the next year. Now, make that MS obsolete by 8 years. Even if it was cutting-edge back then, it would likely get curb-stomped by an average-value MS now.
This is funny, too, because both Zaku III Custom and Tristan would be considered super weak suits in the era that they are fighting in, Late UC0096, a whole 8 years after the Zaku III was made and 16 years after the Alex was made. The unicorns were recently stomping around, stopping colony lasers and traversing time. The Jegan and Geara Zulu were average performance suits that dwarfed the OG RX-78-2 in ALL specifications.
problem with that while yes the base unit the alex is outdated most of it parts have bend replace with new ones from other newer suits are out right new stuff thus putting it on a more even footed with a suit that had no prop maintence for years. like we now tristan uses parts from the nu gundam with the beam rifle being a sign of it so its more likely that it due to the pilot danton who was a veterain pilot with a skills that can match char

Twilight Axis looked like it had alot of potential, especially with the part where they find Sazabi. But I feel they kind of blew it by making it short and not expanding enough on the story. Kind of a waste cause I really do like these types of side stories. Now, I only wish we got the Zaku 3, Tristan and Byarlant in Master Grade 😭

In the movie twilight axis it is an zaku 3 which was built by neo zeon after the one year war
0:30 Man could have landed a clean headshot right there and shifted the saber slightly downwards to disable the Tristans right arm. 0:40 Here he had an opportunity to use the saber to take out any of the Tristans limbs without killing the pilot . But if I’m remembering things correctly this was the Zaku pilots first real fight so its understandable that he might not have his head set on the the details of non lethal ms combat techniques.
The problem with Danton, the pilot, is that he is unwilling to kill people. He never got deployed to real combat because he refused to kill.

Btw the Tristan had the perfect opportunity to use those vulcans on the eye. But this is Gundam. They rarely use that sort of thing
@@nisshoku1036 Banshee, GP02, OG RX-78-2, MK-II, Silver Bullet, Jegan, GM Ground Type, Gundam Ground Type, Unicorn, Gundam Exia, Gundam Heavyarms, Wing Zero, Deathscythe, Gundam Astray and Strike, Duel Gundam, Gundam EZ8, Gundam F91, Nu Gundam, ReGZ, ReZEL, Hyaku Shiki, Zeta Gundam, and GM-II the list goes on. Theres multiple reasons he didn't use them but the two most obvious is that Zaku III Custom was heavily armored so they would likely only damage the main camera which would do nothing since linear seat cockpit MS and most pre-end of war MS before that had extra cameras with that possibility in mind. The second is that he has never fought someone and has no intention of killing. I don't think he knows where its cockpit is either so its possible that he believed it acted like the Rick Dias and had one in the head. Notnonly that but in the heat of the moment neither did anything that would make sense to someone on the outside looking in, as most pilots would be more focused on what their enemy is doing than what they could do.

The zaku iii was just plain strong for a mass production unit. Should of made more of them in the axis war for cca.
So many weapons in the Zaku III arsenal. If the fights were more realistic people would not want to have a beam sword clash battle with it because it have a waist beam and a face beam.

@@6gredlite907 Beam face isn't on custom, pilot of the custom was a test pilot and couldn't bring himself to shoot a gun, shooting beams could have caused civilian fatalities.

Yeah. Here's kinda wishing that this spin-off was less about romance during war and more about MS-on-MS battles. But hey.
I feel that way about pretty much every main line Gundam series. Like hey, lets focus more on the cool MS battles and less on teenage emotions, romance and the power of friendship. And hell if you're gonna have romance then at least do it like the 8th MS team and have badass fights being the center focus.
This whole series was fanservice who read the novels. This isnt about what you want sadly.

個人的にはそれなりに好きでも嫌いでもない作品だよ
My issue with this... Movie? OVA? Was that it was too short. I felt like the whole thing was super rushed and there was no chance to really know any of the cast or to care about the story. I can't help but think it was intended to be an actual series, and for some reason they refused to do that, and instead crammed it into the short we got.
The Twilight Axis ONA was basically just an ad to buy and read the books. A VERY expensive ad, mind you. And yeah, wouldve love to see a proper adaptation rather than just snippets.
The director said that Twilight AXIS had started at first as a project to make a compilation of short films with a small budget like GUNDAM EVOLVE series. But the staff's passion enabled the project to become larger and larger enough to make a longer film with a larger budget. For such reasons, this film could not be more than mediocre. If this project would have started to make a movie or an OVA from the very first, it could be a better one.

I don't know about the details how it was going behind. I guess the ONA's form to be released shred by shred is probably a trace that they formerly intended to make GUNDAM-EVOLVE-like, one-shot short films. Afterwards, these shreds were merged into a movie called "Twilight AXIS: Red Trace" and hit the theater as a double-feature movie accompanied by "GUNDAM THUNDERBOLT BANDIT FLOWER" but I have no idea whether the theatrical release was previously scheduled or not.
@@vacuumcarexpo Didn't know it was actually released in theaters, in that case I guess it's fixed enough, will try to watch that at some point.
And I feel for who went to watch that double feature, Bandit Flower isn't bad but compared to December Sky it was lackluster and incomplete, despite the masterpiece soundtrack and visuals, watching it for the first time leaves you feeling kinda unfilled.
This Char Zaku 3 actually first appeared in the Ideon crossover as the S-Zaku, alongside the ZZZ.

The Tristan is already in the game and is surprisingly good.
The Byarlant Isolde however may have to wait until a proper analogue; the Byarlant Custom, is added.

if Char pilots the thing during the earlier events of Char's Counterattack would that give him a handicap? say against Amuro's Re-GZ?
Char probably would have died considering the beating that the re-gz gave to both the Jadg Doha and Sazabi
@@Bobert2020 Its really clear Char wasn't trying to kill Amuro because he wanted to fight him in the Nu Gundam. Gyunei on the other hand...well, he was. But then again, Gyunei was kind of a try hard. Personally, I think Char would have probably been able to hold his own in the Zaku III, after all, one of this type fought off a bunch of Doven Wolves and took a couple with it. But I don't think he'd have the edge to beat the Re-GZ.
@@DrForrester87 nah personally less impressive than the Sazabi so would of endanger him even. Remember Amuro almost always in a fight try to go all (and was much better than Char that stage) and go all out to beat out Char so giving him a performance degrade, in that it doesn't even have funnels in it. Would make him worse off against Regz.
@@gerogyzurkov2259 The argument that Amuro was "much better" than Char at being a pilot never holds water when you removed two things: Newtype abilities and technological edge. Amuro and Char as pure pilots are fairly even in their abilities. Though Char does seem to be a bit stiff in his approach by this point. Amuro's edge has always been in being a stronger and more developed Newtype and in having a more advanced mobile suit. However, with the Re-GZ, only the Newtype issue really comes into play. The Re-GZ is by no means a bad machine...but it's not going to give Amuro what he needs to defeat Char for good in a Zaku III Custom. Especially one that was specifically fine-tuned to play to Char's strengths. A fight between them in those machines would likely end more like their fights through most of the OYW which saw both of them reaching a point where they are forced by direct combat or circumstance to withdraw.
Though, ultimately, considering this Zaku was meant for Char's use by Haman there is little chance Char would want to use it if only because of his disgust for Haman.
@@DrForrester87 zaku 3 is a high performance prototype of the 1st Neo Zeon era. Regz is an attempt of MP Zeta gundam of which performance is from Gyps war era. Sazabi is better than Zaku 3 more so by that logic Char would of had harder. Sazabi is a much later custom made better machine than the Zaku 3. Amuro in his Regz is able to fight Char with Sazabi head on.
While Char won't kill Amuro until his Nu gundam. The same cannot be said of Amuro towards Char. So by this way Zaku 3 custom with Char would of been much harder for Char to fight in and likely even more worse off for Char.
The wounded Byalant be like "Tis but a scratch!" and Tristan just "Shut it or I'll take the other arm."

ザクⅢ改のパイロット｢ダントン・ハイレッグ｣は旧ジオン公国軍のMS乗りで操縦技術はよかったけれど、人を殺める戦闘に抵抗があり軍内で腫れ物扱いされていたところをシャアがダントンの操縦技術に目を付け(ダントンとシャアの操縦が似ている)自身の専用機の専属テストパイロットとして拾い上げた経歴がある人物なのよ。
だとしても手足切って無力化はできたろうに…なんて話はやめておこう

ザク3改やバイアランイゾルデ、ジェガンバーナム所属機、Rジャジャが好きです。（ほぼぜんぶかな）
特にジェガンとRジャジャが好きで、ジェガンは後のデナンゾンとかにつながるデザインだし、Rジャジャはキュベレイみたいな白やピンクのカラーが好きです。
でもアニメ本編個人的に好きになれないかな…(^_^;)

The Tristan got a retail release but it was a lackluster retool of the old HGUC Alex.

0:36 I am now confused as to how beams from sabers work
From what I gathered... or theorize is that the Beam Sabers have their own I-Fields. Which explains how the beam is able to hold it's shape. This also encourages the pilot to go for a stabbing attack but I also think the pilots can adjust the Field if they want to. So... the beam rifle is only being held by the Zaku III beam sabers I-Field.
Sorry I don't know if that make any sense... it's difficult for me explain because English is my second language.

やっぱガンダムはこの作画方法でアニメにすると機体がプラスチック同士の、軽い戦いに見えてイマイチになっちゃう気がするんだよな……(トワイライトアクシズ、ビルドファイターズ、等)
セル画か、ジ・オリジンの作画方法か、ユニコーンの作画方法が、メカの重厚で機会的な感じをだすのにぴったり合ってると思う

I guess this shows that if Neo Zeon fought the Titans, then Neo Zeon would have come out on top. The Zaku III was beating the Byarlant.
First off, difference in pilot skill is important. Second, the zaku III custom is a specialized ace unit and the byarlant was going to be mass produced. Also the zaku III was created far after the byarlant, only the time of like a year, but people also managed to go from the original zaku II to the Zeong in one year.
The Byarlant pilot is kinda shit tbh, I man come on, charging in with a beam saber? the RX-160's lighter frame should be outmaneuvering the Zaku III in speed. just look at how insane the Byarlant is in Unicorn with a good pilot.

@@nt249-hoa-ong9if we’re talking the custom the most impressive thing it did was take down two Zee Zulu’s but overall seeing how it was probably shot down I’d say it’s pilot survived due to fans liking the suit as his battle was pretty much in his favor.

はしょった部分が多いけど戦闘シーンはそれなりにカッコいいんだわ
Twilight Axisって評価微妙だし、実際漫画もストーリーつまらんかったけどアニメはどんな感じなんかなー……って思ってたけど、想像の三倍は戦闘に迫力がなかった。
描写そのものにしても、最初のトリスタンとか同じ無力化にしても手足もぎ取らない理由がなくて不自然だし、不殺にしてもやっぱり武装解除をしない理由がない。イゾルテとの戦闘描写も動きとかちゃちで今の動きで何がどうなったらそう破損するの？って感じの違和感がある。
GBO2 devs need to fix the sound of Zaku and other monoeye MS start up. Sounds like I'm starting up my car, not a menacing and powerful ms. Even in the crappy parodies they have the proper deep ping start up noise. Ain't no reason for them to sound like an old ass S10 struggling to come to life.

アプローチが映画的戦闘というより少年漫画的バトルみたいな。
方針の話だから、どちらがいいという話じゃないんだけど宇宙世紀には合わないよね
ビームサーベルの発色の明るさとか、動きのメリハリをつけすぎたりとか、わざとらしさ感じちゃうよね...
イゾルデとザク切り合うシーン、直後のダメージ描写の説明っぽさよ。
逆シャアならひとつの画面で互いにスレスレを切りつけられるニューとサザビー写してた。
ただモビルスーツの線はめちゃめちゃ綺麗でアップの部分とかは書き込みに拘りを感じる
マジで方向性の不一致が出てしまったのだと思う
富野的バトルやるんなら多分もっと引きの画面多かったり
枚数制限あるならメカの線は雑めでも場面転換多くして止めでビーム打ちつつ
カットイン口パク喋らせたりとかやって間を持たせてドラマ展開するとかしそう。

一説では、かの赤い彗星の為に建造された
物だとも言われている。
第一次ネオジオン抗争時に運用された物と
異なる点として、バックパックが一般機の
物になっておりカラーリングが赤を基調と
した物になっている。
完全個人的意見だけど、この作品の連邦？のキャラの性格、口癖がとにかく悪すぎるような気がする、トリスタンのパイロットは多分強化人間だし、イゾルデも強化人間でしょ？もう強化人間にったら性格が悪くなるってことでいいかな？

プラモの出来もバイアラン以外これでもかってくらい酷いトワイライトよ ジェガンはまだマシだけれども
トリスタンのプラモが何十年前のアレックスを少し弄った程度とか言う化石だとか？そこまで再現しなくても良いのに。転売クズが騙されて買い込んだと言う愉快な話があるとかないとか。
