Remember in the arcade version of SVC Chaos Mai Shiranui jiggle cleavage was removed in the arcade version. And later, it came out on Xbox original console on September 28, 2004, and Mai Shiranui jiggle cleavage is uncensored.
The American MVS, AES and home console releases of previous KOF games also remove her jiggle too, but with the right gameshark code on consoles or bios tweak would easily enable it. Just like this game.
Twitter is where people argue the politics of... and not the actual subject they're supposed to be arguing about. 😂 For example, when was the last time someone argued about how good a basketball player Caitlin Clark is? Smh.
I grew up in the 90s and while seeing some helicopter parents most of us were left to learn and grow up as actual kids having fun. My parents being latino Christians never once told me not to play Mortal Kombat or Street fighter. As long as I cleaned and my homework was done my parents wouldn't complain and even sat down and played games with me :).
Yeah that was just your personal experience and there are probably some others that didn’t get hassled. Plenty of others did not have the same experience. Same thing with music. Anything with guitars and screaming was “satanic”
@@MrFernadz Right? I definitely remember the news reports about bans, and there were literally Bipartisan congressional hearings. Mortal Kombat is directly responsible for the ESRB and the little rating stickers on games that still exist today. There's also the SNES version, replacing the red "blood" with grey "sweat" and removing some of the fatalities. Like, what 90s is dude even talking about?
@@lennyface5182 dude, this is why Mai Shiranui is the boob goat. This is why I love her as the part of KoF lore. So imagine censoring the one feature that has defined Mai sexuality (which is the boobies)? You'd be killing the character's aura
Somebody said in anl comments section, "I'll just stick to my original Xbox copy if it's censored then", to which I had to point out how that release was actually censored while this one was not.
@@edwinvaniersel But in all seriousness, this is an old-school SNK game, notorious for difficulty in a pre-Dark Souls era. The CPUs *will* read your inputs and bosses will delete your health bars with unfair attacks. If you’re shooting for story mode clears, it requires a completely different skillset from vs play, learning CPU patterns and exploits.
Neither of these issues bother me as much as many others. The thing that bothers me is the fact that the Single Player option only allows for 4 continues. As an incredibly hard fighting game, being brought home, we should have unlimited continues. I cannot think of a single other fighting game with such limitations on play. Even having this same game on PS2, Xbox, and the Neo Geo AES, allowed you to keep playing until your heart was content.
@@axe6279 I don't really play them, but if this is your definition of incredibly hard i don't know what to tell you 🤷♂ You probably think tying your own shoelaces is incredibly hard.
The one thing that i don't like with svc chaos is the fact in the arcade mode we're only given 3-4 continues a run. I've tried a lot of buttons to see if any add continues but there is nothing I've found so far. Meaning for people to play the game at level 4 and onward we're only given so little tries to beat the arcade. I hope there's something I'm missing to it or there'll be a small update to change it
I think by saying cleavage has always been censored by the squeamish US population, doesn't mean that censorship should be allowed (even though i get what you mean that we can't blame the woke mob on this one). I live in the united states and i'm always shocked that the audience will more readily accept decapitations in Mortal Kombat but then clutch their pearls when there is underboob. It is very hypocritical in my opinion since acts of violence depict someone getting hurt, wheras most guys AND girls love a good sideboob smh. Great take though Tophat! can't blame the blue haired brigade on this one! The americans should behave like the americans the japanese think we are!
The limited credits is a bigger issue than any of these things. It's basically a "broke-ass at the arcade w/ only $1" simulator. Makes no sense when you bought the game, it should be like owning the cabinet w/ the keys to open it up and spin the coin flipper or at least having a bucket full of quarters/tokens - continue at your own prerogative.
While trigger warning is unnecessary silly the game is completely uncensored along with art on physical edition, well here in Europe anyway. It seems the art in question was only changed on likes of American western YT as it's fine on Euro physical edition cover I'm getting :-)
Has to be an ESRB issue cause alot of games have been having censored or altered promo and cover art of games. This is far from the first game to do this.
@@ChrisMS0815that what I been thinking. I do know the esrb have been forcing guidelines for publisher on what can and cannot be shown on boxart. One of these is any weapons being pointed at the viewers or as you shown. Any revealing outfits
Probably only the PS4/5 version of the art is censored. I can imagine it won't be on Switch, the ironically best place to play most games without censorship on consoles.
I play on the easiest level and turn super gauge on max with single round matches on arcade and I have problems beating it with 4 continues. The game is hard. They need to add unlimited continues.
Yeah it’s kind of a big flaw with this game. They should have adjusted that for the re release for sure… it’s not the 90s anymore where slot machines and coins are used. Then again, this is technically an SNK game that’s pretty much KOF vs SF, I didn’t know what else I was expecting when this came out. Anything SNK puts out is always gonna be much cheaper.
SNK: This is how it was. You’re all responsible for how you respond to it. Internet: HOW COULD YOU! JUST LET US BE RESPONSIBLE FOR HOW WE RESPOND TO IT!!!
Honestly tired of these nerds they harshly judge everything to controllers, graphics, remakes, anything gaming in general just shut up. I used to play this game at the arcade in early 2000 brings back memories I like it so what!, and we are getting mvc collection
5:07 not the fans. People who play these games and like these games have never been afraid of cleavage. The catering to people who have no desire to play these games is why Americans are so upset.
Not the first time that happens, but the point is: after even so many time we told that we hate censorships and changes in general, they still keep going with that bullsh*t because "sensitive modern audience" i mean wtf lol But the problem its that some games are getting censored beside the illustrations, like see how many retro Capcom games got slightly censored, its maybe "not important" for some people but it matter for the principle. We areally live in such sensitive era? Seriously? When games like The Last of Us and Mortal Kombat are showing the most brutal gore contents ever? Oh boy...
Glad SvC's actual game itself isn't touched by censorship, but its art cover is Plus, I found out that this game (made by SNK) is overshadowed by its 2 counterparts (made by Capcom) for some reasons. And so overshadowed I don't mind its haters either way
The Switch version its uncensored. When Bison defeats Earthquoke his victory quote in the spanish translation it's: "Que rival mas flacido y maricon" (What a puny and f**got rival)
yes this is true, i remember growing up hearing about that one lawyer (forgot his name) that tried to make a case that video games like gta3 was the reason for the increase in mass shootings and other violent crime. then from 2016 onwards with gamergate, conservatives realized that it's better for them to recruit gamers rather than antagonizing them.
why is that disclaimer even needed? What's so offensive in the game? Does it feature Song of the South Uncle Remus as a secret character? Hitler hidden away in a background?
Yeah it’s kind of a big flaw with this game. They should have adjusted that for the re release for sure… it’s not the 90s anymore where slot machines and coins are used. indeed, should have released SVC Chaos: The Good Edition. Though do appreciate it for posterity. If they wanted to release the game, better to do what was done with the MvC series and do a collection with QoL changes and add the other crossovers done with Capcom like the card fighrers
The biggest problem with this, the capcom is censoring a character that isn't even their own character that is not cool. 4:52 America being squeamish when it comes to cleavage is just straight up a lie because some of the best-selling video games in America happen to be games with heavy amounts of fan service in them. And to all the people saying, "It's just promotional artwork, why does it matter that's censored, it's not a big deal." If it's not a big deal then why did I need to be censored in the first place?
Its like you didn't even watch the video or listen to him. He said SNK. SNK are the developers and the only publishers that were involved in this games re-release. The devs for the port were code mystics and the publishers are SNK because this is an SNK game. This is why people in the comments and youtube videos are spouting the wrong publishers to blame saying its capcom but its not. Your all thinking of Capcom VS SNK which is capcoms game series, this one isn't that. Which is unfortunately sending all the hate comments to the wrong company. The game isn't even censored in game either. You should edit this comment to say SNK. The reason the artwork is censored is for age ratings in america probably. Nintendo censors alot of their box art for their games too. Senran Kagura, Disgaea 6, Dusk Diver 2, Amazing Princess Sarah and so on. Its done for the west only with nintendo switch games too.
Some great insights but I disagree on just calling it a marketing issue in regard to the promo material. I don't think it's intentional but i feel like using "marketing" as the reason slightly hides the nature of what we are talking about. And if we take your statement about the US at face value, and that Europe is less prudish, why then did we get the promo art of America and not the Japanese in Europe? It would have taken no additional effort to give us the JP one and if we are less prudish, would indicate we'd prefer the Japanese uncensored promo art, yet that isn't what we got. And why would that be? They've seen the regular outrage of the left/woke on prudish matters, often dressed up as female rights issues (the male gaze, unrealistic beauty standards and so on) It's a perfectly valid point to bring up that in the past the right wing was to blame for censorship in gaming, but it did generally get targeted towards violence, rather than sexuality. I'm sure we all remember the various examples from the 90s like MK (yet we had their revealing outfits still) and likewise, mentioning SNK self censoring the game in the past itself is worthy of discussion. But really, when you say "marketing" we are talking cultural sensitivity and it is undeniable the Left wing is leading the charge on being prudish to how women are portrayed in media and by extension, culture in modern times with the real risk of accusations of sexism etc being thrown around at the drop of a hat. And whilst we can definitely point to recent left and right wing examples of policing sexuality it's also not 50/50 In the modern day, Twitter mobs and campaigns are launched to police things people don't like on the regular and it's given off the impression that cultural sensitivity to sexuality is higher than it actually is. But who then are this loud minority? It's just a fact that Twitter skews left, has done for sometime AND is used more by left to boycott than the right. That's not to say the right doesn't also, but again, it's disproportionately the left/woke. So when we say "marketing" w we are saying in effect "what's permissable to progressive mob" So, I think it's valid to highlight that. I know it's easy to say "it's just promo art, the games still uncensored" but the very reason you are making the video is that people have seen the censored promo art and thought it would lead to censorship in game. THAT'S a marketing issue in it's own right, as SNK should want people to know the game ISN'T censored, yet the promo art makes it look like it is. As for your wife, people should leave her alone and let her do her thing, her videos are great and, you sir, are a lucky man ;)
The mere fact that there is a video about this is crazy. Fighting game lover since playing SF 1 in the arcades in 87. Just enjoy the damn game people. Or don"t. Also GREAT video sir.
I'll be honest, the art with Mai being covered more looks better because the arm placement in the original looks a bit awkward. Though personally I would have loved a compromise between Athena being more visible and the Mai change.
This generation of gamers are so privileged that they boycott over disclaimers and promotional art. That's like if Capcom still had it's "This Game Contains Scenes of Explicit Violence and Gore" disclaimer and everyone ran to Twitter to cry about how soft this generation has become.
Bought it back on the OG Xbox and enjoyed it for what they tried to do. I'll give the remaster a shot, too. The silly thing is that game companies have been doing this for decades. So why the outrage now all of a sudden.
Yeah, people getting their knickers twisted about nothing really. Censorship or lack there of has never been consistent across the globe with differences between regions in respect of religious, political and cultural sensitivities. Final Fight changed Poison and Roxy’s appearance so many times in respect of the different conversions of the game to various systems during the 90’s. The SNES version of the original Mortal Kombat was heavily censored and altered compared to the arcade version.
Hey great video bud and I just about agree with all that u say except for parts of the Bobbie.. section. Yes u are right Japan has always censored there games due the regions but I believe the censorship has gotten so extreme to not offend anybody hence the disclaimer in the beginning of the game. Folks are just so tired of it games like Dead or Alive or Senren kagura can't be made this day of age or it's heavily watered down to appease the west. So folks maybe jumping at shadows when anything gets censored but I don't blame them given the way things are now of days. I also appreciate the fact that u say both sides are extreme but lets not kid ourselves the majority of the reasons why things need to be watered down comes from one side. This isn't just going on in the gaming industry but it's all over especially if these companies have places in California. 🎉🎉 Cheers yall
OOOhhhhh Lady Decade is your wife, that explains everything. A few of her videos were recommended to me and when I watched I had the thought "hmm, her videos feel very similar to Top Hat's." Now I know why lol
i doubt anyone's truly forgotten the tradcons and their role in censorship over the years, but right now, it does seem like the progressive types are the louder ones, and they do complain about beautiful women in media just as much as the tradcons do, just for different reasons, i think. honestly its hard to tell the two apart sometimes. people are getting sick of the censorship from either side and it is getting to the point where censoring some promo art will be taken as a bad omen, with the more vocal side pushing for that stuff getting the blame for it
Probably because of the egos from both tradcons AND progressive (should I dare reeegressives) that we're in thia type og situation. For example, I've seen one female player who was very iffy about Iroha (Samurai Shodown) for her...full course of swan style fanservice...you get the idea.
Great game for the the smack talking at the start of the bouts if nothing else! I still have it on the PS2. SNK Vs Capcom 2: Mark of the Millennium 2001 is better IMHO with the 3D backgrounds but this is more memorable. The brown colour palette for Chaos is a little bit questionable though!
This "controversy" is ridiculous. Ok, so an image that you'll see for all of five seconds before you boot up the game (read: not even in the game itself) has been altered from the Japanese version. Who cares? The game itself is completely unchanged, and that's what matters. You can tell that some of these people weren't around in the early 2000s, when Mai's sprite in KoF 2000/2001 was edited in the NA version (PS2) to remove the bounce from her idle animation. That's something worth getting into an uproar about, but that was nearly 25 years ago so who cares at this point. EDIT: As for the disclaimer, it's clear CYA. It's just them saying, "If you get pissy about something in this game, don't complain to us." Makes sense to me, especially when you have characters like Genjuro telling the other characters to off themselves in one of his win quotes.
Dude, this is a great video. I also love your wife's channel. And I think you are right. Both sides of the political spectrum (the most radicals) are idiots.
And here I thought this might be about the price, which I think is the biggest issue. It's one emulated game, and a controversial and not that popular one at that, at half the price of whole collections of way more popular emulated games. And some would even argue that those were already a bit too expensive and I kinda agree.
Also, great info on SVC Chaos American version. I never knew about the jiggle physics in the American version back in the day because I played the Japanese version on my PS2. Wild.
Yeah, SNK would censor Mai's jiggle physics and blood in alot of the early King of Fighters games in America. Later on in the 2000's they would pick and choose which games to censor or not, it was wierd.
@@ChrisMS0815 I would be inclined to say it would depend who the publisher was. They went through plenty of them in the late 90s and early 00s-10s even though they sometimes self-published themselves in between releases. But when they didn't, it was companies like Agetec, Atlus, Bamco, Ignition Entertainment, and Sony Computer Entertainment.
I personally believe that if a company of a certain media wants to change their approach to character design, that they are justified in doing so. It doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with censorship. More like when you look back on a random memory and think “yeah that was cringe.” I personally have no problem with either (nor do I think it’s “cringe”), but if they felt it poor taste then they are valid in changing it to improve their vision of their brand. Sure it will piss some people off, but you can’t make everyone happy.
What's funny, people actually think this is Capcom censorship this SNK game but if it was Capcom having any pull over this rerelease, then why isn't Chun Li nor Tabasa(the wizard) also censored since these are Capcom characters? Because isn't Capcom know for "censoring" there recent rereleases? Lol so with that in mind, it's not Capcom at all is in fact SNK who has the most pull over their own game!
You make a really good point about conservative groups being just as hard on censorship as certain left groups are. I was around when people thought video games caused violence, believe me. That said, you hear about any right wing groups condemning revealing artwork like this as much as left wing groups do(at least on the Tube), which does kind of surprise me.
I was trying to figure out why the disclaimer was put in. My best guesses are 1) The presence of religious figures (Athena and God) 2) The presence of demons and vampires 3) The Midnight Bliss move 4) “the game’s 20 years old and something in it might cause offence because the modern internet is crazy, let’s put the disclaimer in.” At first I thought it might be the Midnight Bliss, but maybe it’s just that fourth reason.
I assumed that it would have been modern day Wiccans whinging about Tessa, but a couple of comments elsewhere here mention Balrog threatening Chun-Li with violence if she didn't become his girlfriend and Bison calling someone a bundle of sticks in the Spanish version.
Haven’t had a chance to watch yet. But knowing how THGM writes headlines, I’m assuming “outrage” = some dude on TikTok said something mean. MVC is a broken game. Always has been. But it can be ridiculous fun.
@@AWMonopolyMan Thanks. So a piece of promotional art - not the game but promotional art - had less cartoon cleavage in one country than in another. People outraged about such a thing - and RUclips channels that amplify their complaints - need to serious question their value system.
I actually whole heartedly agree with everything said here, and as an American who loves breasts and fighting games, I dislike the censorship. Free the tata’s forever.
Haha this is a great video essay. There’s a lot of completely unreasonable outrage over totally good and authentic things in gaming these days, usually being a loud minority who weren’t buying as much in the first place.
This censorship in fighting game specially happens since 90s. US version of SF2 to snes, had the final Dhalsim cut scene re drawn. The snk games in the US version ha white blood. The US version of kof 99, 2000 had lots of crazy censorship, like the Whip gun move, thatin the US version she made a thumb gun. Even lots of genesis and snes games, had changes. Ristar game from genesis, had a re drawn in Ristar face, to looks less angry. Many here in Brazil always said that if you want good versions of games, animes and soon, praise to this game don't be released on US.
I think the entire point of the "censorship" was a tongue in cheek joke that went over everyone's heads. The game is from the 90s where the fighting genre specifically took a lot of hits in the form of bans etc and even some ads were banned. This is 2024, any ad released can be viewed by anyone so it's not like they were keeping anything from Americans by altering the "American" version of the ad.
No it wasn’t. You’re probably thinking of Capcom vs snk. This is snk vs Capcom. They removed her idle breast jiggle. But one of her victory celebrations had the jiggle
Top hat, i am also goign to add something here thet a releasing a physical version of these game with the artwork completely uncensored and in a big poster around the world makin it just for digital trailers where it censured
I would be happier if they didn't re-release the original game but instead do a "UM" version of it like KOF98 and KOF2002 got for the PS2 some time ago. This new version could fix the "unfinished" feel the game has and make a better finalized experience with updated graphics, sound and mechanics.
I hate censorship, but in a poster... well.. I don't care. Now in the game the only think I find pretty much dissapointing is the MUSIC. SNK vs CAPCOM CHAOS always had that low point, the music is kinda boring and doesn't fit the action of the game, it just felt generic. They could invest on the music rights for every character's classic BGM. The port doesn't feel like made with love at all.
This was in 2003 and SNK was crawling out of bankruptcy. They had no resources. Pretty much this followed after KOF 2001 and 2002 which have a lot of reduced stages/music. Certainly nothing like peak KOF or Last Blade. They were also working on KOF 2003 at the same time so I imagine this game only had scraps to work with.
It's been proven time and time again that censoring leads to more people not wanting the product due to word of mouth. As a side tangent i remember they didn't put mai in as a smash cameo because "it's for good boys and girls" the response to that was clearr and is probably why Pyra and Mythra were the way they are.
Wait, you didn't go over what is in the game for them to out that message in there, in the first place. I had a modded PS2 and played an import if the game when it came out. I am struggling to find anything offensive. Can someone let me know what I am missing?
There are some weird scenes, like I recall one where Balrog threatens to beat the shit out of Chun Li if she doesn't become his girlfriend. When we remember that he was original based on Mike Tyson, you can connect the dots. But nothing worth sticking a warning on over.
The difference between the censorship of the 90's was that it was usually Nintendo's fault and how it targeted the kids market. Would there have been even more difference if you included the Genesis, Neo Geo, Saturn and Dreamcast?
If people would mind their own business we wouldn’t need these levels of censorship. If you get offended then don’t play the game. It’s that easy. I for one cannot wait to see what Demitri’s Midnight Bliss does to other Capcom and the SNK characters
Me: Man, why have they not at least patched this game? It would have been nice after all these years to- Others: They censored a pic!?! Let's fight! Me: 😒
I see so the jiggle is behind the whole no mai no buy. Besides in this era of games, there can be toggles created for all this stuff so the people that don't want to see it don't have to and the people that want to still can.
There has been a version without jiggle since forever if you put the old NEO GEO bios on USA English, MAI 8008s will not move. Is nothing new. That happened since the 90s
As a person who owned this game in College a video game design school mind you. I was the only one who owned it and for the most part very few people even knew SNK outside of that weird arcade machine they'd seen from time to time. So I think a lot of people are just jumping in on the it because terminally online people are weird and need something to yell about. I think gamers need to stop raging over this kind of stuff, it adds to the stigma that gamers are weird sweaty sex creeps. They likely changed the marketing art because parents are more apt to buy a game not covered in lewd imagery. As a card carrying leftist I don't mind or care about cheesecake but I understand why it would be cleaned up and don't care either way. If you need endless cheesecake steam has a whole section for that.
Yes your right both sides are oppressive in their own rights. That's why I just want games to be just what there are with zero changes regardless of what some moral police want to censor. Simply put screw them both.
Whether left- or right- wing, the people who call for games to be pared down to a form that is acceptable to them... Don't tend to be the people who keep those games afloat with sales. I just wish that companies would recognize this. Social media "outrage" is short-lived, constantly on a search for new fodder, but a fan base has a long memory if they feel patronized or slighted.
I NEVER KNEW THIS GAME ACTUALLY EXISTED UNTIL TODAY! I don’t care about the censorship I just wanna buy this game. I honestly thought it was a fan made game.
Seems like more & more someone is going to get salty about something no matter what. I’m just happy this banger isn’t locked in PS2 & OG Xbox era anymore. It’s definitely one of the more challenging fighters out there. Would I rather the cover art stayed original? Sure. Boobs are great. But I’m not going to let it keep me from appreciating the re-release of this or any other fighter they decide to breathe new life into. Keep em coming. 👺👍🏽
Dawg there are things within the game that aren’t good but I still loved this game for a long time. It’s one of the first arcades that ever attracted me and it was in a damn checkers😭😭 you’re telling me people are mad over no cleavage. You cannot be serious😭
Without a doubt it's not that they are neglecting to mention that the game is more uncensored now, it's just that they honestly don't know because none of them have played the original or this rerelease. I'm under the assumption that at minimum 80% of the people who complain about fighting games have never actually touched one.
I love SVC, have the OG game still but just hate one thing about it. The damn lack of adding credits or just letting us continue more than a few times.

We American gamers hate censorship, that's 1 reason we had Japanese modded systems
The Japanese have much more casual attitudes towards sexyaluty and nudity in art than the US. Most countries do, really.
Unless you're in the FGC, then they'll call you the usual insults
I guess that explains all the nude mods y'all come up with. Makes y'all look like a bunch lonely ass people out there.
I still do 😂
Dumb
Remember in the arcade version of SVC Chaos Mai Shiranui jiggle cleavage was removed in the arcade version. And later, it came out on Xbox original console on September 28, 2004, and Mai Shiranui jiggle cleavage is uncensored.
Mai tended to be censored on the US. I think it stopped on ps2 02 and newer like 03 and svc chaos.
The American MVS, AES and home console releases of previous KOF games also remove her jiggle too, but with the right gameshark code on consoles or bios tweak would easily enable it. Just like this game.
Exactly. Let not forget that, kof 00/01 was censored on the PS2 version.
Mai, had jiggle effects since Fatal Fury 2.
@kwizzeh What home versions? I pretty much own all the KOF games and Mai has jiggle effects in those games,
“Online commentators…"
By that you mean “Twitter.”
Not been on there, it's a shit hole.
That is true
@TopHatGamingManChannel That is Also true! 😅
Twat-X. It's Twat-X
This video turned into a venting session 😂
It really did. I thought I was coming here for something else.
North Americans: "NOOOOO NOT BOOBS"
Chad Asians: "YEEEES MORE BOOBS"
Virgin Americans : WHY IS THERE NO TRANS GIRL WITH PENIS

@@lennyface5182 dude, this is why Mai Shiranui is the boob goat. This is why I love her as the part of KoF lore. So imagine censoring the one feature that has defined Mai sexuality (which is the boobies)? You'd be killing the character's aura
Mai and Chun-li are waifus
Somebody said in anl comments section, "I'll just stick to my original Xbox copy if it's censored then", to which I had to point out how that release was actually censored while this one was not.
Yeah, those type of people just complaints about anything.
Biggest problem is the 5 continues max thing. Kills the gameplay.
Skill issues…
@@maxspecs true not denying it :) but at least let me play the story mode stuff properly.
@@maxspecs I will try that a bit more hopefully it works hate akuma haha 😂
It doesn't. Just get good.
How did you stretch an issue about a poster into a rambling 14 minute video?
Neither of these issues bother me as much as many others. The thing that bothers me is the fact that the Single Player option only allows for 4 continues. As an incredibly hard fighting game, being brought home, we should have unlimited continues. I cannot think of a single other fighting game with such limitations on play. Even having this same game on PS2, Xbox, and the Neo Geo AES, allowed you to keep playing until your heart was content.
incredibly hard lol
@@drunkplaylists1829 Some people have more in their lives than video games, mate.
Spin the coin flipper? Lol what
While trigger warning is unnecessary silly the game is completely uncensored along with art on physical edition, well here in Europe anyway. It seems the art in question was only changed on likes of American western YT as it's fine on Euro physical edition cover I'm getting :-)
Has to be an ESRB issue cause alot of games have been having censored or altered promo and cover art of games. This is far from the first game to do this.
North Americans don't want boobs 😂
@@ChrisMS0815that what I been thinking. I do know the esrb have been forcing guidelines for publisher on what can and cannot be shown on boxart. One of these is any weapons being pointed at the viewers or as you shown. Any revealing outfits
Probably only the PS4/5 version of the art is censored. I can imagine it won't be on Switch, the ironically best place to play most games without censorship on consoles.
Will the Pal version also be uncensored...?
I play on the easiest level and turn super gauge on max with single round matches on arcade and I have problems beating it with 4 continues. The game is hard. They need to add unlimited continues.
I agree I'm bad at fighting games but I thought the easiest difficulty wouldn't be input reading verything I do lol
Op blocking and counter not to mention the spam projectiles from Sagat.
Thats Old school SNK for ya. We call that, "SNK Boss Syndrome" Only way to beat it, is to improve, or find exploits lol
@etrotm1226 yeah. I'm on a pad. Gotta build up thumb calluses.
Radical left. Radical right. 2 ugly sides of the same coin
5:07 not the fans. People who play these games and like these games have never been afraid of cleavage. The catering to people who have no desire to play these games is why Americans are so upset.
Not the first time that happens, but the point is: after even so many time we told that we hate censorships and changes in general, they still keep going with that bullsh*t because "sensitive modern audience" i mean wtf lol
But the problem its that some games are getting censored beside the illustrations, like see how many retro Capcom games got slightly censored, its maybe "not important" for some people but it matter for the principle.
We areally live in such sensitive era? Seriously? When games like The Last of Us and Mortal Kombat are showing the most brutal gore contents ever?
Oh boy...
Glad SvC's actual game itself isn't touched by censorship, but its art cover is
Plus, I found out that this game (made by SNK) is overshadowed by its 2 counterparts (made by Capcom) for some reasons. And so overshadowed I don't mind its haters either way
The Switch version its uncensored. When Bison defeats Earthquoke his victory quote in the spanish translation it's: "Que rival mas flacido y maricon" (What a puny and f**got rival)
Woah, Based Bison?
Nintendo really don't care about this kind of stuff lol and I hope they will keep this tradition for their next console
@@NetBattler
Correction, they don't care about that stuff outside the US.
I grew up in the 90s. Conservatives (Or at least most of them.) were the main antagonist against video games right up until 2010 to 2015.
yes this is true, i remember growing up hearing about that one lawyer (forgot his name) that tried to make a case that video games like gta3 was the reason for the increase in mass shootings and other violent crime. then from 2016 onwards with gamergate, conservatives realized that it's better for them to recruit gamers rather than antagonizing them.
Joe Lieberman was not conservative
why is that disclaimer even needed? What's so offensive in the game? Does it feature Song of the South Uncle Remus as a secret character? Hitler hidden away in a background?
As long as the content in the game isn't removed/censored, I don't mind
I heard this game uses a limited amount of credits to continue. WTF?!
Yeah perma death after 4
People complaining about everything BUT the gameplay that didn't get fixed at all.
So true lol

the gameplay is ok, you know, this is an old game, a newer version would be different for sure.
indeed, should have released SVC Chaos: The Good Edition. Though do appreciate it for posterity.
If they wanted to release the game, better to do what was done with the MvC series and do a collection with QoL changes and add the other crossovers done with Capcom like the card fighrers
They didn't fix Guile's charging?
As an american I agree with you. American'a and peoplw that live in america have become too sensitive.
Capcom didn't make this game, SNK did. You are confusing the Capcom vs SNK series with the SNK vs Capcom series.
There is no way the decision to center that artwork came from SNK because SNK has never censored fan service in the past
@@JoobyMcGee dawg THEY OWN THE GAME. It is their decision.
@ManaSamaSRK Just because they own the game doesn't mean it's their decision. Now stop trying to defend censorship
They've seen the regular outrage of the left/woke on prudish matters, often dressed up as female rights issues (the male gaze, unrealistic beauty standards and so on)
It's a perfectly valid point to bring up that in the past the right wing was to blame for censorship in gaming, but it did generally get targeted towards violence, rather than sexuality.
And whilst we can definitely point to recent left and right wing examples of policing sexuality it's also not 50/50
In the modern day, Twitter mobs and campaigns are launched to police things people don't like on the regular and it's given off the impression that cultural sensitivity to sexuality is higher than it actually is.
But who then are this loud minority?
It's just a fact that Twitter skews left, has done for sometime AND is used more by left to boycott than the right.
That's not to say the right doesn't also, but again, it's disproportionately the left/woke.
So when we say "marketing" w we are saying in effect "what's permissable to progressive mob"
So, I think it's valid to highlight that.
As for your wife, people should leave her alone and let her do her thing, her videos are great and, you sir, are a lucky man ;)
Yu-Gi-Oh players want uncensored arts too, especially dark magician players
I thought Top Hat wasn’t going to cover SNK games because of the Saudi Prince’s ownership. 😂
He's in Britainstan. He'd have to move Countries if he really wanted to boycott
@@IrishKyokushin 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
The mere fact that there is a video about this is crazy. Fighting game lover since playing SF 1 in the arcades in 87. Just enjoy the damn game people. Or don"t. Also GREAT video sir.
I disagree with the "they are even worse" part, but still I agree with you that both sides can be very extreme!! 🙄
If you're referring to conservatives and religious people regarding censorship, you weren't around in the 80's and 90's.
Many people were upset that SVC CHAOS didn't get re released for the new xbox
By many you mean a group of insignificant dung flingers gotcha
Hit the nail on the head Tophat. Been playing it on switch. Getting it on ps4 next. Always was my favorite crossover game.
Bought it back on the OG Xbox and enjoyed it for what they tried to do. I'll give the remaster a shot, too. The silly thing is that game companies have been doing this for decades. So why the outrage now all of a sudden.
Been gaming since I was 3 (1980) and we've had censorship since I remember. Mortal Kombat? Pilotwings 64? Tons of JRPGs.
How was pilotwings 64 censored
Yeah, people getting their knickers twisted about nothing really. Censorship or lack there of has never been consistent across the globe with differences between regions in respect of religious, political and cultural sensitivities. Final Fight changed Poison and Roxy’s appearance so many times in respect of the different conversions of the game to various systems during the 90’s. The SNES version of the original Mortal Kombat was heavily censored and altered compared to the arcade version.

@@haffyree5576 you must. I mean you said it.
9:51 A disclaimer that we all are walking on eggshells now.
Trigger Warning- this game was made at a time when we didn't care about fake fans on social media and we just wanted fans to have fun.
OOOhhhhh Lady Decade is your wife, that explains everything. A few of her videos were recommended to me and when I watched I had the thought "hmm, her videos feel very similar to Top Hat's." Now I know why lol
I love this game on the 405V ,PS2 and SNK version. The dark tone of the game 🔥
i doubt anyone's truly forgotten the tradcons and their role in censorship over the years, but right now, it does seem like the progressive types are the louder ones, and they do complain about beautiful women in media just as much as the tradcons do, just for different reasons, i think. honestly its hard to tell the two apart sometimes. people are getting sick of the censorship from either side and it is getting to the point where censoring some promo art will be taken as a bad omen, with the more vocal side pushing for that stuff getting the blame for it
Tradcons gave you the late 90s: they had no power. Late 90s the most uncensored era...ever
Do people not know what the word woke really means anymore cuz it gets thrown around for the wrong things
People who care this much about this should reconsider their priorities. We have actual problems in the world.
@@ChrisMS0815 Bizarre. I think SNK brought the japanese versions to South America and that's why I never knew this
@@ChrisMS0815 I would be inclined to say it would depend who the publisher was.
Top Hat Gaming Man says, "I used to be on Twitter".
Now he is on X
Haha
You make a really good point about conservative groups being just as hard on censorship as certain left groups are. I was around when people thought video games caused violence, believe me. That said, you hear about any right wing groups condemning revealing artwork like this as much as left wing groups do(at least on the Tube), which does kind of surprise me.
I was trying to figure out why the disclaimer was put in. My best guesses are 1) The presence of religious figures (Athena and God) 2) The presence of demons and vampires 3) The Midnight Bliss move 4) “the game’s 20 years old and something in it might cause offence because the modern internet is crazy, let’s put the disclaimer in.”
At first I thought it might be the Midnight Bliss, but maybe it’s just that fourth reason.
If anything, they did my boy Kyo dirty by not even having him in the promos at all 😭
This censorship in fighting game specially happens since 90s.
12:33-12:48 the man is speaking the truth. I see this on social media too often.
2:54 Beautiful ASSets. I saw what you did there. :)
Ah, the "could have been worse" slippery slope...
This is so ridiculous. But I’m not surprised. It’s because of the conservative US market. It always has been and always will be.
The jiggle physics for Mai were definitely in the arcade versions of the game here in the U.S back in the day, I remember them all to well.
No it wasn’t. You’re probably thinking of Capcom vs snk. This is snk vs Capcom. They removed her idle breast jiggle. But one of her victory celebrations had the jiggle
Let me just dust off my Neo Geo Gold System and Japanese copy of Chaos. There it is! Right behind Last Blade 2 and KOF 98 (aka: the best KOF).
The hilarious part was everyone saying capcom joined the woke agenda, despite capcom having little to do with the title.
The game itself is not censored just the promotional art work so what’s the outrage it’s stupid yes but the game itself is not censored
4:02 Hey, don't ignore how they also removed Firebrand's torso from the shot. That's the real issue here.
Bro, you should be banned from using the word "outrage". I know its supposed to be clìckbaity. The problem is, its boring. Move on.
Really hoping the European or Pal version doesn't have censorship of any kind including cover art, gameplay, gallery etc.
One boob at the superbowl and our country was on hold. He’s not lying. #janetjackson
It would have been nice after all these years to-
Others: They censored a pic!?!
I've always liked this game after cvsnk2 i needed more of that capcom snk fix and 20 years on i like it more
Seems like more & more someone is going to get salty about something no matter what.
I just would like to know FROM WHERE those developers took the idea that western PLAYERS don't like boobs, not deranged twitter denizens!
The lack of a physical copy is whats pissing me off.
I love SVC, have the OG game still but just hate one thing about it. The damn lack of adding credits or just letting us continue more than a few times.
The disclaimer that shows when you open the game is literally a png, you can change it to whatever you want on the pc version
