Looks awesome, I really liked how the sound changed when they moved to different environments, adds a lot of immersion in my opinion
Nice commentary on the things shown. I totally agree with you about the blue marker.
They could have done the fade but at least let up walk up to the ship entrance
@@RoninX33. Yeah the blue marker was pretty poor. Looks like a place holder. I was expecting this, but like you was hoping for the ship's ramp to be extended, with the marker placed a little bit up it. At least you'd have the illusion of walking into your ship.
Markers positioned at the "official" entrance to the ship, be it a ramp, hatch or ladder would be better.
Did I miss the part where Buzz Aldrin clubbed Neil Armstrong on the back of the head and push him out of the lander?
1:21 - I love how her head follows you as you walk past.
Overall this looks good to me, and can only improve from here.
Remember folks: Its an early release, the animations will be fixed and the resolution will be upped. To paraphrase MST3k: Then repeat to yourself "It's just a game
I should really just relax"
except on PS5 where 1080p is the most you're ever gonna get because Frontier officially don't have any plans to go beyond Backwards Compatibility mode
I'd like to note that the details of the morally dubious theft mission, the flavour text explaining the mission is much better than the snippets we get right now
Just want to add that anytime you see the words "Pre-Alpha Development Footage", you need to assume that the video or footage is a proof of concept, and does not resemble anything they actually have working currently. Such videos tend to be the stuff they show to the people determining budget allocation. Best example of this was Anthem's first ever trailer; it was literally video they used to show EA's boss to get a greenlight.
So be prepared that when the playable alpha hits on Mon, that it may look or behave nothing like what was shown in this video.
While that's true, note how the GalNet section in the Terminal tells us that this footage was recorded on the 26th of March, 4 days ago. It may be entirely possible that this wasn't an up-to-date alpha branch, but I'd personally be surprised if we see any huge visual changes on Monday.
I do hope tho that Frontier will listen to the players and give some things here and there a face-lift for the official release though :)
People tend to fail to understand this
For ship entry, I think the best compromise between full interior and not running for 10 minutes to get to the bridge of your corvette is to fade in at the back of the cockpit. Then you can walk up to the seat and choose to get in, or you can explore around the bridge/cockpit (depending on the ship) a bit.
or just have the option when aproaching your ship, "go to cockpit" or "send the elevator/stairs down".
The first option would teleport you directly to the cockpit, while the second one would make an elevator or stair (depending on the ship) go down so you can explore it or manually go there
i didn't know your channel. nice to have another ED content creator. count me in. also hype a lot for odyssey.
It's Pretty Nice to be your Fan CMDR Plater 😉
The transition into the ship.... Why not walk up the gangway and black screen into the cockpit? Or, have an airlock / small room at the gangway’s end. Push a button to board. Then the black screen transition.
I mean, even X4 Foundations does this with their big ships. You can choose to use an elevator to the cockpit or hangar areas etc etc.
Would be cool to have public events hosting galactic power leaders at scheduled stations. Like a Hudson NPC giving a speech, with increased security around the station. Could add some realism to the ever-changing events. The Vice President was assassinated recently in a bombing attack. Imagine having been able to be at that location yourself, and see the attack actually happen. GalNet news could also start including video footage clips including reporters and interviewees.
This is good constructive criticism. I'm pleasantly surprised as my expectations were low. It looks ok as that was the least I expected and this is fine for what it is right now. The next proity is obviously ship interiors and hopefully a floating space bike to cruise around planets.
I think that the ship interiors is really the only major thing missing. It's a good base to build from.
This was a great review which helped me see beyond the OMG factor. I was left wondering how many CMDRs will share this space as each landing pad is overlooked by an identical structure.
4:33 Those mission providers should be given standing table kiosks which will make them more approachable and seem less out of place.
That entry holo circle thing is a PROPER immersion breaker ffs. :O Hope they replace it with something more immersive before launch.
Just an staircase or elevator going down would be better
@SPACER_NINE_NINE SPACER_NINE_NINE Why? I'm not dumb enough to get hoodwinked into SC, so no thanks.
Some fair criticisms and some strange ones. Most commanders are buzzing but you sound downbeat.
On balance, I'd say this tour is very impressive especially when compared to other games in the genre. While you describe it as 'playable' ..........
You're one of the better creators but I suggest that sometimes u might be a bit biassed toward the negative 🙂
Sounding downbeat is how ED content creators make a living.
I'm definitely not down beat about odyssey, when it comes to these breakdowns I try to fact based rather than opinions. I nitpick for sure. Truth is I'm really looking forward to playing odyssey, on my live streams you get a slightly different take as its all unscripted.
I really like the layout of these stations. When it is live and real players are added to the mix they will feel alive. It will be fun to watch other players move around the stations chatting to NPCs. Some great opportunities to any bounty hunter tracking a target to. I’m guessing voice chat will be situational? Nice vid Plater 👍🏽
I had my friend deliver a full load in a Type 9. He didnt get his free Anaconda.
Overall, i feel like it's pretty decent for an Alpha.
Good base to build upon, now lets just hope they actually build upon it.
I am really looking forward to the full release so i can play it
The mission providers' movements are inspired by Ray Charles at the piano :)
The sloppy ship boarding kills the whole experience.
Yes sure don’t buy it and just stay away then.
For me only one thing needs to drastically improve: entering ships. standing in a circle and teleporting in the pilot seat is insulting.
Its not insulting, it might be there because they have plans for a proper solution in a future update that is already planned for.
The current ship dimensions don't support proper entering of ships. They need a re-work
This exactly what I need to come back full time... twerking NPCs, dwarfed ships, and low Rez guns
100% on the "twitchy" idles, but hopefully that will improve through the Alpha and into launch.
the dolphin was a small pad
Excellent review
All the nit picking and criticism throughout the vid. If only one was aware this is Pre Alpha Development Footage. Surely, we could find this information, somewhere. Anywhere? I guess not....
If only you heard me say that at the start. This is hardly critical just in depth.
PSO 2 New Genesis by Sega Japan with implementation of space port/station walk about design is another comparison of current implementation of this walk about scenario. A 9/10 rated game currently rumoured re-worked with Yu Suzuki involvement should show that Frontier have done a good job on this. I'm happy with what I see comparing the two. Star Citizen is over involved and will lose 35% of players due to time consumption dis-interest. Frontier, DO NOT over complicate immersion, playability stalls with too much complexity. The Greatest games ever made had a perfect balance.
Do you think this was the console version considering they clicked x instead of space
They have used a controller for all versions so far for smoother camera movement, its definitely on PC.
elite dangerous, rule 1, do as much MINIMUM work as u can do to get by
You've never been to Latin America, where every conversation is a dance.
Kinda disappointed that there aren’t any new ships
I wonder if there will be a local voice chat. I hope there is some communication element.
As long as it can be turned off if there is I'm game.
@@CMDRPLATER I'd rather see opt in than opt out.
Not really a promo video, or?
I have to be honest it actually looks a lot better and less jenky than i thought it would look, I'm impressed with how many npc's are in there and walking around, (I expected only 1 or 2 npc's) but the fact that they won't adding any new ships to a game about space ships is just insane to me, If they want me to pay 40 bucks for a space game I want some new spaceships to play around with, until then I guess I'll just wait till i'ts on sale.
There are 40 ships. You probably don't even use half of them. New ships would be cool, but not essential. They will probably add more as the expansion unfolds, just like with Horizons
@@PowerofRock24 Wait! there are 40 ships? holy shit! NO WAY! I never knew! Thank Braben you were here to set my ignorant ass straight!
@@PowerofRock24. 100% agree mate. If they added another 20 ships, I probably wouldnt bother flying them unless they added new missions which took advantage of certain ships. E.g. 1) Stealth ships for recon missions which ran super cool, had no hardpoints but were very fast & manoeuvrable or 2) 10 man multicrew ships for ground assaulting a heavily defended base.
@@mikehawk5492 You're welcome
Second like
I am still don't see why VR will not be supported at launch.
It's probably because fdev cannot find the best way to balance gameplay with VR and 1st person.
@@CMDRPLATER They didn't have a problem with the SRV. It's really about the same.
Vehicular gameplay is very different to first person shooter gameplay.
@@CMDRPLATER I don't see why ,It's just a different holder for the weapon. Comes down to changing the controls. I mean how are they going to accomodate for people that just use HOTAS ?
I don't want to sound like a complainer and I am sorry if I appear to be one.
Quite a few of these people seem rather small for their boots.... Hmmm
Everyone is wearing mag boots apparently
3rd!
I'll wait till actual creators get their hands on it. This whole expansion stinks of Cyberpunk 2077.
I'm sorry, but not doing ship ingress and egress, along with detailed interiors is flat out lazy. It just screams minimal viable product, and greed. Say what you want about Star Citizen, at least they aren't throwing immersion out the airlock because they can't be bothered.
I find it odd that on the other hand, they go to great lengths to create immersion with sound design and other aspects of the game.
The current ship dimensions don't support walking entry/exit of ships. They need to re-work the ships. I suspect this will come at a later point.
@@aquaticborealis4877 The Anaconda actually has a little bit of interior in it. There's actually a commander's chair in the prow behind the big curved window.
@@aquaticborealis4877 I'd also point out that the Imperial Cutter has what is clearly an embarkation ramp that leads to an airlock door built into the front landing gear.
Wtf do you mean the blue circle looks out of place??? That's literally what ever single landing pad is, same with ship launch fighters, and the SRV bays.
I think you'll find they are orange rectangles.
Serious answer is that it feels super low effort compared to everything else we have been shown in odyssey and that's why it looks out of place.
First 🖖
Soo many unappreciative people.. half of you been crying for space legs for god knows how long.. space legs finally drops and all i see is people complain about twitchy characters and all sorts.. on a pre alpha footage video! Damn
Complain and commentary are not the same thing.
It happens to many people once you've worked your way to endgame and find ED is 95 percent rinse and repeat grind loops. It's hard to look at Odyssey with rose covered glasses. Honestly, they've shown a modified SRV mission for FPS and an updated "menu system" as their showcase pieces. I can't help but be concerned with the lack of showcasing any actual exciting game play, but I suspect there are only a few game loops at the moment. I've enjoyed Elite, but I'm simply getting tired of it now and am wishing for something interesting enough to pull me back in. So far, Frontier has not shown much to evaluate this expansion. Maybe 3000 hours is my limit for this game. I have enjoyed it, but if it becomes mainly another FPS, I'm probably done with it anyway.
Plater .... are you nit pickin ??? asking for a friend ??? lol
I would say I am, in-depth analysis by name and by nature! Also if I don't mention something I get called out for not saying it!
