I am very grateful that you keep making these guides (Elite Dangerous and No Man's Sky). The universes are changing, the games are updated so we need them. Please keep it up!
oh great, i bought it recently, completed the ship tutorial and have no clue how to get a mission i can do and how to join the Space (i have fps dlc) it just feel like there is nothing to do, the game doesnt propose anything
Your videos are A1. You have no idea how much your videos helped me out when I was starting out in this game and I am really happy that you made an updated guide! You rock!
I hardly comment, but I really enjoy your videos. This is a niche sim and I apperiate the humor and concentrated information with pleanty of needed detail. Thank you for updating them, a lot of people don't realise a lot has changed and some old information is completely useless. Keep on truckn' Commander!
Why not just buy some extra containers ,you do it for the limpets so I don't get why you need to engineer a container. What are you going to do put a scope and extra msg on it
Hm, I think cross sample contamination would be bad. It might mutate into an elite dangerous alien intelligence ....like... the... Thargoid.... oh... oh my....Did I do that?
I totally approve this guide. I follow Hawkes best start videos, and have hundreds of millions in Star Citizen, billions in ED, its absurd. Thank you for making this guides for most confusing game genre out there. You definitely will end up with mire money then you ever need
FYI for Surface Scanning he forgot to mention in the loadout that you need a Detailed Surface Scanner in your optional internal slot. Just replace the 2G Planetary Vehicle Hangar.
You actually don't need to delete the Vehicle Hangar, you can put the surface scanner in a size Ii slot. Keep the Vehicle Hangar and Size 3 fuel scoop, removing the 2 x Cargo Pods the Hauler comes with. Bear in mind the surface scanner is 250k so adds significantly to the cost estimate above. You should still be able to outfit the hauler for right around 1Mill if you go with a slightly less expensive scoop and B class upgrades instead of A (albeit quite a bit more mass)
Thanks a lot for making this. Im not not a beginner at all. But I remember being so overwhelmed when I started a few years ago. And your video's helped me a lot. So I really appreciate you putting in the effort for the new commanders out there
It’s nice too bc following this guide you touch on every part. Exploring, mining, fighting, trading, missions. So by the end of it you’ll probably know what part you like the most
Always love these how to have the best start videos, brings me back to the one you did in 2019. If it wasn't for that video and the engineering vids you did. I don't think I would've stuck with the game for this long.
Love your content CMDR Hawkes! When I started playing a year ago, your Road to Riches video put me on the right path in the game! Your mining videos taught me the love of Core and Subsurface mining! Thanks for all you for the community! o7 CMDR
I did a bunch of life form scanning in a hauler a while back (before the $$ buff, go figure). One thing I can say is you can find patches really easily in your ship. In fact, I found flying from patch to patch was so fast, I stopped deploying my SRV Boarding and disembarking a ship works as fast as it does in an SRV so the barrier to this method is landing and taking off. I found this easy enough to outweigh the benefits of using the SRV.
I'm just now returning to this game after dropping it just before Odyssey came out, so this helps out a lot! Gonna take my time, linger around the protected systems before ultimately braving the frontier.
Well done Badger. Very good. I just shared it with one of my new noobie Sqn members, on his way form Harmless, Penniless and Directionless. The only way is up.
9:57 - Minor correction here about the requirements for life on a planet (for those who go outside the bubble to look for undiscovered life): Brain Trees are a scannable lifeform found on planets with no atmosphere and have geographic activity. Typically these planets are very hot, so scan as quickly as possible and get back in your ship. They're even found on high G planets. They're even sometimes found on planets that are too high G to disembark to scan, or entirely too hot to disembark. They're also indicators of Guardian-related material.
Nice to see a "how I get rich" video from you again! When I rejoined Elite Dangerous a few years ago, your videos were THE entry point for me. Not only did you show me how to earn credits, but you also provided precise quick reference guides for almost every area of Elite. THANK YOU! I have only one problem, I can't find any minor factions that have expansion and bust. Is that possibly due to the current "situation"? I'm looking forward to your next video!
Im a veteran and I still like the videos. I would have killed for these kind of videos when I first started ED well before Horizons Xpac came out. Starting back then was absolutely brutal. I was stuck in a lowly Cobra forever as nothing you did in game then was very profitable. Youd mine Painite and Palladium for hours (LTD and deep core mining wasnt a thing then) and MIGHT make 1M profit lol. BH was a joke, exploration income was pretty much non existant, passenger missions werent a thing then, well you get the jist lol
Love your videos, I'm explorer Elite 3*, but your videos helped me about pretty much everything else. Keep up the good work, and all the best from Croatia! o7!
This is an awesome tutorial. The game should have it as like "Main Quest" with steps like "Mine 100 Platinum" and Anaconda as final ultimate reward (after doing all the steps from the video). Please post more guide like videos!
Training: When I bought Elite Dangerous I started with that training session and for some reason I could not get the hang of it. Since Steam back then had another refund policy and it was actually quite hard to get refunds I didn't bother and just uninstalled after a while of trying. For some reason abot a year later I decided to give it another try and i don't know why but.. it clicked. Heve been exploring the Galaxy eversince. Wish I had a guide like this back then lmao. It is good to see you updating tis with the evolving game.People like you, doing these guides, are on the same level to me as Rats.... In any other game, this would have been an insult lmao, in Elite.... not so much :) Mapping: Getting the bonus is actually pretty easy with most planets except for the gas giants. A planet with 6 shots given can be done in 4, a planet with 7 shots given can be done in 5 (most common numbers you will come across). In fact both can be done with one less if you place the probes exactly right. Just divide the planet in 3 when facing head on. Place one probe top side , one probe close to 4 o clock and one probe slightly over 8 o clock using the center of your middle reticule as the targeting point. if done exactly correct, a 6 will be done, if slightly off, just shoot another probe straight ahead to finis the last bit. For a 7 you might need to shoot an aditional 5th, aim slightly below the bottom point of your centre reticule and it should be done.. Is it a little bit of money extra... yes... is it a matter of pride to get the bonus... also yes. Happy Holidays Hawkes
Whats funny is i just picked up the game last week, and i was watching your 2020 version, hoping there would be an update soon. I made about 80mil mining in the Asp Explorer and now this just came out! Perfect!
Watching this gets me excited for starting a roleplay playthrough on my second account. And I know a lot of people hate on the Hauler, including myself, but...I've gotta admit, it's growing on me. I went straight to an Adder on my first account, so maybe I should grab a Hauler this time.
The new secret method is so amazing! It works like a charm. If only I could have some friends to do those mission with me, then I could make even more money
@Everyone who ist starting to do the exploration part: Make sure to add an FUEL SCOOP to ur Hauler, since using those routes from the website, WILL lead you outside of the bubble. You won't be able to refuel when there are no stations and no fuel means ur fucked. The fuel sccop allows you to refuel at star, while flying close to it. Also make sure to have ur heatsink ready incase u get to hot. The fuel scoop for 900k is very quick and easy to use.
To those who read this comment, keep in mind if you DO end up running out of fuel, there is a lovely community known as the fuel rats who will help save you and get you to a station if need be. Be sure to check out their site!
I bought Elite a long time ago but just never really got into it. I just picked up Odyssey yesterday as i have started to hear good things about it since its had some updates and man am I having a blast. I'm not a roleplaying kind of person, but there is something about this game that just draws me in and before i know it my wife is laughing at me as i'm acting like a real space CMDR. Thanks so much for these vids.
"Finally" I've watched every out of date guide. Almost all ut gave up and just did 10mil trade runs in a type-7 Now I know the Secret and already have a Python
Been playing Elite for a couple years, and I have to say the Expansion+Bust trick was brand new to me (hunting missions by system state as a whole is new, tbh). I will admit though, trying to find that pairing has been somewhat infuriating lately, as I have found 1 such system in the last month. Made the most of it while I could though, and was able to upgrade the armor on my 'Conda to get military grade and reactive surface composite. All in all, I am very appreciative of your videos and the new little tricks that I've learned from them.
@Hawkes Gaming - When getting to a system and fuel scooping, pro tip: If you get the pirate's warning message. Get as close to the star, about 80% heat level and face your back to it. Interdiction requires a cone behind you. When the pirate tries to fly back there - they crash into the star. Then resume enjoying the wait as your refuel knowing the former threat is now a messy molten memory.
I love the last method of trading missions. Discovered it by myself a while ago. Cash is in abundance. First in Anaconda, later in Type 9, and now in Cutter. Cutter is really best for this. I almost never got interdicted, but the few times it happenes, NPCs do not have a chance of catch up with me. Cutter engeneered ofc. I fly without shields and weapons so fight is not an option. Type 9 is soooo much slower that I wonder why I waited for so long to switch to Cutter. I had it for some time...
Video is awesome, a massive help for a nube. Wish you included the advanced planetary scanner in the load out. As I was following it, and I got to that part and didn't have the device I needed after my first load of jumps 😂. Had to fly all the way back.
when i reset my commander i first did a few missions to get enough for a cobra then outfitted for piracy and headed to a good hunting ground.. turns out even though nerfed, piracy is still substantially faster than pretty much everything else in game, if you know where to look. best thing is piracy doesnt require stupid op builds or anything just a pulse lazser and a seeker rack 1 collector limpet and 1 hatch breaker and some somewhat quick drives the rest can be cargo racks and if youre good you can even run shieldless as youre primarily targeting lakon ships and they typically use mine launchers.
I might be appropriate candidate for "Training Day" anti-achievement - for having Anaconda (from coffee mug event obviously) without any trainings. No struggle at all. And yes - than You for deep mining guide - EZ Anaconda in 2019 for an couple of hours. Yes $1.5M were nice boost for starters.
Really good video, one thing tho, i've (atleast for me personally) found that it's faster to use the ship to go around for plants, and also i suffer from massive motion sickness/naussia when i use the SRV, so that's something to consider. And yes i've tried the focus on horrizon and all that, but without success i often spend about 5 mins on a surface when i use the ship, to seach for plants, when i only go after one type of plant.
Don't need this but I like watching. As of now I hardly ever even fly myself. I use space taxis around and just buy new ships where I need to or transfer my ship to the area.
I don't even use the srv for plant gunning. Just fly around and jump out and scan. Then fly a little bit away with landing gear still down. Seems to be faster for me. What I really would like is a fighter that can land.
i just picked the game up! debating between solo or multiplayer. i do want to do some combat later down the line but i also want to chill and enjoy my time exploring and gathering things
You eventually learn what ships are pirates and/or hostiles based on how they fly. I've gotten pretty accurate on picking out the pirates w/out scanning
Great stuff. The only thing that threw me off is i was taking 16 jumps for what spansh said was a 4 jump trip. Beginner's need to know to change route settings on the galaxy map! I got blasted by some Thargoids.
I just made my first Billion in game by mission stacking team massacre pirates missions, we would take every mission against this one faction in an area from every faction that would offer it. If you take missions against the same targets from different factions, they all stack and you only have to kill 1 pirate for it to count for 1 in each mission total. BIG money in a few hours, especially with friends who have engineered Corvettes with healing lasers.
Picked up the game last week and decided to go the explorer rout with a tinge of bounty hunter, and damn, I thought I was doin good when I got 5 mil credits from cartographic data on my last expedition which lasted like 6 hrs and was so happy to get the diamondback explorer which was what I was gunning for when I started. This video is properly making me feel like the noob that I am, but damn do I just find exploration fun
Tip: If you're close to the optimum yield strength don't just tap your charge on any fissure, make sure you're tapping it on a high strength fissure as low strengths will pretty much always go beyond optimum yield.
I did 13 jumps of my road to riches route today. I did a bunch of exobiology and turned it in for about 85 million. I think I'm going to do the rest of the route in my new diamondback explorer!
Can you kindly add the build as a link to the description please? Not that I wouldn't love to keep coming back. You've earned my like and subscribe. Cheers bud!
I just jumped into the game & it was a little awkward to say the least but I like a good challenge that's what game's are for and it's nice to come on a site and learn how to mine or learn the ropes & personally looking back I'm happier I did it without the help of anything outside of the game.
1. For the probing, there is an easy fix for most planets. They want you to use 6 probes for efficiency and you can simply use 2 triangels to always get it. the first tirangle is used on max range, so aim out as far as possible which makes it hits the back of the planet. You can start at 12 and then move to 4 and 7 o'clock respectively. Then you make a second triangle which is upside down. Aim your circles outer line so it touches the middle line for the distance. Shoot that one on 10, 2 and 6 o'clock. you wont need to shoot the middle of the planet at the start, as the second triangle overlaps the middle anyways, which takes down the probes used from 7 to 6. PS: You guys need to buy the "Detailed Surface Scanner 1I" in your optional internal 1 slot or you cant probe any planets. 2. You can use Inara to find a system which has the python and all its A-Rated parts, as of 08.02.2024 its the 109 Piscium system. Simply give the system as your endpoint on spansh and the system you're in as the starting one. take out loop, give it all the other stuff like jump distance and how many systems you wanna work on your way to the python and have a pleasant time working towards the python not only economically but phyiscally as well. GL to all the new commanders who stumble across this gem of a video. Update: Finding Monazite is a real pain, for a skilled player its very easy to do but as a new player youre basicly down to chance because it feels like 1/3 of asteroids are bright enough. Notice tho, that smaller asteroids tend to be brighter and bait you, if you ever find a monazite core, dont destroy it. instead you want to go to mdules and turn your prospector controller off and back on, this makes it so that the asteroid is no longer marked and you can ping it again to see how it brightens up at different distances, what the exact shape is from different angles and what you need to look for in order to identify different asteroids later. This wont make it 100% but you will get better at finding them faster this way. Its still gonna suck until you are at least somewhat accurate at spotting them. Laser Mining is really chill but also boring, go for the overlapping ones, engage the middle of the bigger one facing at the smaller point and have it marked. This way, when you enter you will autofocus on the second point whenever you arent focusing on other things, so you can fly from one hotspot in the direction of the other one and have a better chance at finding higher % Asteroids. taking about 100 limpets is a good mark so you can get close to the 190 units of whatever youre grabbing. Its boring but consistant and it only takes a around 5-7 trips to get the type-9 with all upgrades and have enough money to buy allied status in your system of choice while also having the rebuy.
38:20 So remember, Rookies. Never go to hazard enough RES with your paper hull, get at least Reinforced hull pack and if you can engineer it at least on Heavy duty 3 + Angled
nice video, bro like all you did about ED. I'm kinda stuck trying to find any "bust+expansion agricultural player faction rulled system". Got the VF1 FSD and decided to go for the Guardian FSD booster first. After that i'll try again.
They can be a pain to track down. If you give up though you can still do it in expansion only no other system states attached to the system. It just wont be as good as bust plus expansion can be.
Dude, you could make videos about paint drying or grass growing, and I would still like your relaxing, informative, and funny way to learn everything about it.
really nice video, thank you so much. Can you do it with only fighting ? I'm really curious to know if you can be profitable from start to end game with combat
Thank you for the content! P.S. You can hit "End" button to make your 3rd person camera stable P.P.S. Aaaaaaaaaaaaand your Hauler build lacks DSS itself I think
Love your content so missing elite. They killed it on console so got a pc. Hope it’s good never played on pc and we’ll need a few more things. Hotas or hosas with throttle control. 🤷🏽. But should be ok. 49” ultra wide
Nice vid! But my starting experience is contrary to the chain of events you propose. So, I reset my char to begin Odyssey, (haven't played for at least a year) created a character, did the little intro ground mission, and ended up on HIP-29970, (or something) quite a distance from the noobula and Dromi. And I don't have a noobula permit. There didn't seem to be any way to influence my starting location either. So I guess I'll just either fly around until I find a high extraction site to mooch in, or just start with RTR and get a Hauler as soon as I can. *shrugs* Oh, and I wasn't offered the Welcome to the Universe mission either. Also the "exact" hauler layout you show doesn't contain a DSS... so I guess it's not all that exact.
Whoa, 1kk bounty from mooching? I wish i knew this back when i started. Jumped right into ground combat, don't regret it so far but that amount of money would have really helped me save some time
The Brand NEW Updated Super Mega Best Start Guide for Elite Dangerous is Located here!

I am very grateful that you keep making these guides (Elite Dangerous and No Man's Sky). The universes are changing, the games are updated so we need them. Please keep it up!
Boy did your vids help when I started 2 years ago. Can't thank you enough! 1200 hours in, I'm gonna watch this one too!
I'll be starting work on the 2024 Best Start very soon!
oh great, i bought it recently, completed the ship tutorial and have no clue how to get a mission i can do and how to join the Space (i have fps dlc)
it just feel like there is nothing to do, the game doesnt propose anything
You forgot to mention you need to buy the detailed surface scanner, its not on the parts list of the hauler.
Your videos are A1. You have no idea how much your videos helped me out when I was starting out in this game and I am really happy that you made an updated guide! You rock!

quickly realizing a lot of this is irrelevant to an xbox player

Thank you for updating them, a lot of people don't realise a lot has changed and some old information is completely useless. Keep on truckn' Commander!
Anyone else think we totally need an engineering upgrade to the genetic sampler that allows for multiple different sample containers at once?
That would certainly be win.
Why not just buy some extra containers ,you do it for the limpets so I don't get why you need to engineer a container. What are you going to do put a scope and extra msg on it
Yes please
Any kind of update to this that would let it act like the hopper when you're mining asteroids would be welcome.

Going from SC to ED made me forget everything I thought I knew about space simulator games haha. Thank you for your helpful videos :)
I learn and I laugh every time I watch one of your videos. Thank you

Thanks for this been a while for me watching ED stuff this was cool blast from the past old and yet new.
i expected a lot of filler funny music edits or jokes but this was pure information that worked well for me, thanks.
Great video, thanks for all the information. I'm getting all the info before I dive /right in. Thanks again!
Made a quick 50 mil off your trade route video, thanks.

Type 9 is soooo much slower that I wonder why I waited for so long to switch to Cutter. I had it for some time...
I was starting to like you. Then you made the twilight comment near the end of the video. :D
Made my 1st Billion and Trade Rank Elite following this guide. Thanks @Hawkes Gaming!
Video is awesome, a massive help for a nube. Wish you included the advanced planetary scanner in the load out. As I was following it, and I got to that part and didn't have the device I needed after my first load of jumps 😂. Had to fly all the way back.
I love that you’re totally using my favorite ship for this guide lol
You are the reason why i didn't "alt+f4'ed" the game. Thanks CMDR! O7
when i reset my commander i first did a few missions to get enough for a cobra then outfitted for piracy and headed to a good hunting ground.. turns out even though nerfed, piracy is still substantially faster than pretty much everything else in game, if you know where to look. best thing is piracy doesnt require stupid op builds or anything just a pulse lazser and a seeker rack 1 collector limpet and 1 hatch breaker and some somewhat quick drives the rest can be cargo racks and if youre good you can even run shieldless as youre primarily targeting lakon ships and they typically use mine launchers.
Fantastic work! Thank you!
Makes me smile when I think back to when Elite dropped it took me nearly a month to make my first million. And that was playing every evening!
These.are.the.days.of.instant.gratification..."I.become.an.overnight.Billionair.with.no.work.envolved.for.me.or.this.game.is.a.LOSER"...
0:28 I Literally Bought it And Hopped right in and Had Fun right off the bat. That was 4 Days ago and ive already made 2 Million Creds
Awesome tips, every second of it!
Great vid. Shows how much I haven't done in Elite.
Played console for years just jumped into pc vr version with quest 3... wow what an experience .
Not just the srv, but upgrade the pulse wave scanner to show hotspots for biologicals. maybe have an engineering blueprint to alter it that way.
Don't need this but I like watching. As of now I hardly ever even fly myself. I use space taxis around and just buy new ships where I need to or transfer my ship to the area.
6:06 Hauler Build
24:42 Python Laser Miner Build
I don't even use the srv for plant gunning. Just fly around and jump out and scan. Then fly a little bit away with landing gear still down. Seems to be faster for me. What I really would like is a fighter that can land.
i just picked the game up! debating between solo or multiplayer. i do want to do some combat later down the line but i also want to chill and enjoy my time exploring and gathering things
You can switch between open, private group and solo any time without losing any progress.
I like the exploring method the most...making a ton of money by just flying around:)
As said by Wizard Zabobon in 'The Big Knights'
"I like Cheese"
Keep them coming mate.
You eventually learn what ships are pirates and/or hostiles based on how they fly.
I've gotten pretty accurate on picking out the pirates w/out scanning
Still.gotta.scanem...
Great stuff. The only thing that threw me off is i was taking 16 jumps for what spansh said was a 4 jump trip. Beginner's need to know to change route settings on the galaxy map! I got blasted by some Thargoids.
I have over 3000 hours in this game and still enjoy your newbee vids Cmdr sir.
You are a LEGEND, and you know it Sir :)
o7
Thank you
Picked up the game last week and decided to go the explorer rout with a tinge of bounty hunter, and damn, I thought I was doin good when I got 5 mil credits from cartographic data on my last expedition which lasted like 6 hrs and was so happy to get the diamondback explorer which was what I was gunning for when I started. This video is properly making me feel like the noob that I am, but damn do I just find exploration fun
Tip: If you're close to the optimum yield strength don't just tap your charge on any fissure, make sure you're tapping it on a high strength fissure as low strengths will pretty much always go beyond optimum yield.
I subbed just because of this video. Just saying. Love this video. 😉👍
I did 13 jumps of my road to riches route today. I did a bunch of exobiology and turned it in for about 85 million. I think I'm going to do the rest of the route in my new diamondback explorer!
Awesome content like always. Hope your dad is doing good buddy.
Update:
Finding Monazite is a real pain, for a skilled player its very easy to do but as a new player youre basicly down to chance because it feels like 1/3 of asteroids are bright enough.
I love your Ren and Stimpy reference. "Nope. I don't like it." - Mr. Horse.
Just bought the Odyssey so thanks for Exobiology part, now i know what the f i should do there
Best times ever!!
Dude, you could make videos about paint drying or grass growing, and I would still like your relaxing, informative, and funny way to learn everything about it.
26:18 'Ultra Cheddar'.... What a glorious ship 🙌
Started just last month and already a billionaire from watching your videos. Robigo mine runs :)
really nice video, thank you so much. Can you do it with only fighting ? I'm really curious to know if you can be profitable from start to end game with combat
Thank you for the content!
P.S. You can hit "End" button to make your 3rd person camera stable
P.P.S. Aaaaaaaaaaaaand your Hauler build lacks DSS itself I think
Im 800 hrs in and I feel like I "played the game" more while following your vids than i ever did on my own
You helped me become a freakin space Elon musk, thank you for your videos man!
Love your content so missing elite. They killed it on console so got a pc. Hope it’s good never played on pc and we’ll need a few more things. Hotas or hosas with throttle control. 🤷🏽. But should be ok. 49” ultra wide
O7 thanks commander. returning player from years ago............
Spansh took me right through a Thargoid area, needless to say I got a good slap!
Just started again after years of being gone. Deleted my character and created a new one. My New Com ship package starts in the LHS 3447 system.
I do this and get straight into mining and trading
Whoa, 1kk bounty from mooching? I wish i knew this back when i started.
Jumped right into ground combat, don't regret it so far but that amount of money would have really helped me save some time
My monitor's broken thank you for my Elite fix :-)!
