This brings me back to the good ol' days of LTD mining with a minimum sell price of 750,000/per and top price of about 1,600,000/per diamond. Kinda sucks they nerfed mining hard but gave a major boost in Combat bonds and Bounty payouts... Compromised Nav Beacons with Massacre Missions is how I make the majority of my money now and I can't be too upset about that part, but man do I miss mining being super profitable lol.

It was like no other mining in any game.
The part that was the most confusing was the refinery, and almost no one online tells exactly how to use it. I kept doing it wrong because the UI for it is weird. I knew the triangular symbols were obviously eject, but the whole "resources unallocated" and "bin full" warnings were confusing because when I went to the refinery it gave me 2 options and an eject for whatever was in the bin, and at first I thought I was selecting the materials I wanted it to be refined into, but apparently I was doing the opposite and that's why it was taking me so long to refine materials into the valuable stuff I actually wanted like platinum. Oh well, once I figured it out it was smooth sailing. Thanks a lot for the video. I did mining my own way for awhile because I didn't want to meta game too much and spoil the discovery and learning aspect of the game. Now I am allowing myself to use your guide so I can earn some faster income. I started out flying around and scanning systems for easy money and it was also a great way to get the hang of the game. I worked my way up into the cockpit of an Asp Explorer which had a big enough cargo hold to get me started mining. Eventually I'm probably going to get a bigger ship and take off on a deep space expedition to get my name in the game as the first to discover and map some areas. I'm really enjoying the game so far. It's relaxing and has a ton of depth. I wish I'd started playing years ago when it was more popular.
If you travel full throttle and get interdicted you want to hit your 70% key as fast as possible. This puts you in the blue zone which maximizes you ships maneuverability which greatly helps to follow the escape target. If your mining ship is fast in a straight line but doesn't turn very fast. You can try setting your throttle to zero and submit then go full throttle with afterburners until you can reactivate you frameshift drive. If you choose the submit option I highly recommend equipping your ship with defense turrets to shoot down the hatch breaker limpets they send your way.
Tip you can test if you have time. Yesterday I've sold 30 units of some cheap mineral to station with demand of 1. I think that as long as there is demand over 1, you can sell everything at once
I remember when this first came out and all I use to do was mine! They either didn't have limpets or I just didn't know but I use to mine on a certain angle so they land straight into my cargo hold lol
I'd add: By putting the majority of the rock above your screen you can make the fragments go below you and with practice can make the fragments fly toward your collector swarm. You can release the trigger and re-laser to make fragments spawn from a different laser tip. You can rotate your ship so the belly scoop is facing the fragment debris cloud. o7 Cmdr BlakeA
I would swap one of the 5a collector limpets to a 3c multi-mining limpet, and put a 5a prospector there. 3c multi-limpet gives 4 collector limpets (just do not use the multi limpet prospector, it is only c rated, always use the A rated prospectors for better yield). 5A prospector lets you send out 4 prospectors, lets you find good rocks faster.
I'm gonna try platinum laser mining to see the profit difference, I usually just do deep core mining in GCRV 1568, turn about 40 mil profit in around 1.5-2 hours, really depends on my luck. The carrier I use buys the resources for around 400k a piece, so I'd love to see how surface plat mining goes.
I did miss hearing you talk about "The glorious Python." Really scratched an itch. Unfortunately, I'm still on console and if F-Dev is alright leaving me high and dry, well, I guess they really don't need any more of my money anyway.
Yeah it's really sad to hear about consoles who can't transfer. It's kind of like I hope all you other Commanders can have fun with Odyssey. I'm just thankful some of my ps4 friends we're able to transfer over to PC. Sorry you couldn't.
I tested this yesterday and made about 23mio. Cr. in a bit over an hour. Would it make sense to upgrade from a Python to a Type 9 or Type 10 for more profit? how would that build look like?
I used to mine with a T9 with some 600something cargo, and I didn't really like it because that thing moves like a brick even with fully engineered thrusters, and filling that amount of cargo, you might as well do mining as a full-time job. With this system, it became a part time job, lol. I ditched the T9 though. I guess I could sacrifice cargo space for more limpets and such and make that mining process faster but I'm happy using an Anaconda that can handle 4 mining lasers, 5 collectors and 4 prospectors, shields and all. And with engineered thrusters, it maneuvers far better. It has only 208 cargo space but hey, that just means I get to take breaks faster.
Question for everyone, I am using the same core components as in the video but not able to keep my mining lasers with 100% uptime to drain an asteroid. I am able to have all four up for about 30% and then use the 2 till it's depleted
Great timing with your videos. I came back to Elite after a year of Star Citizen. I missed the VR, and the game play dynamics for Space Trucking and Mining are sooooo satisfying.... 😀 Oh yeah and I bought myself a fleet carrier... making so much space cheddar... 😃
Quick question, This is applicable to players on Horizon right?, havent played ED for a year and some and wanna go back by starting with the ol mining way.
Is it worth dropping a collector limit control for another 6E cargo rack if you're not speed running and just out mining for general gameplay? I'm not a speedrunner and not really bothered about how long it takes (as long as I can do some mining to relax and just brain off, no thoughts, relax money making) or will I get too many units to sell in one go?
Youre good to go with one less collector limpet controller. Overall it just means your collecting slower but not like super slow cause you'll still have 6 out at all times.
@@HawkesGaming Ohh awesome! Thanks for the info and build! Doing passenger missions is easy but mission board breaks too frequently and kills the farming run instantly so having a good miner will be far better!
Thanks for the info! Do you have a similar laser mining loadout guide for the Anaconda? Or is the Python still better in this case? I've been away from the game a long time.
Simplistically: The benefits of the Python are that you can do a mining run pretty quickly and have less issues moving around the asteroids. In an Anaconda you have at least double the cargo capacity to fill and it flies like a brick. You are also limited in terms of landing pads. However, there are a whole host of other factors that are player specific. (1) What ships do you have (2) What activities do you do (3) Available time to play etc. Personally (back when I played more regularly) I used the Anaconda to mine as I could do both laser and core without changing loadouts. I then had a python fitted for planetary stuff, mostly engineering / guardian mat farming. Lastly a Krait to mess about for combat missions etc. That being said I farmed the credits for the Anaconda using a mining Python and it was less of a hassle.
Say sir, never asked a question before and I'm fairly new. Was able to with trade get to the python. My question is on the limpet controllers. WHy so many? why not just one multi-controller? what is the limitations with that? I just got to Denebola (on a list of good on the net) and I don't find hot spots on the rings, only sites (resource sites, low, high, etc). Is that wrong? I did a scan but no hot spots show. Been to the rings 3 times now. The other thing I've noticed is that I can mine along time and only end up with say 12 to 14 T of stuff to sell (here usually gold, silver, plat, and a few minerals). What am i doing wrong? Really could use help.
Im following this ship build, but I cant install 5A Collector Limpet Controllers, says its incompatible. Did something change in the last couple months?
Would you make a video about a mining of cores in asteroid belts?.. Briefly, this is like to go to eddb, select systems which have icy belts around an arrival star. Then take any of your ships and visit all systems from the list and all clusters. Most of the systems will have one to three clusters with an asteroid with a RHODPLUMSITE core. It can be sold at a good price (550-750 right now). When you will have 15-18 clusters (enough to fill up 256 tons cargo), take your Conda, and a show begins. There are two things that make this type of mining interesting. First, you can make this map during two-three evenings by your self. This is a relaxing activity itself. Second, in a half of these clusters 3 pirate ships will wait for you )))) So, this is why you need two sets: weapons to destroy pirate ships, and equipment for a core mining. Cores will respawn in 6 days afaik. If you want to mine all week long, 7 maps of 15-18 cores are needed.
I know this video is a little bit older but hoping someone might see this. You mention having the mining lasers set to 4 pips instead of two. Not sure if I am missing something or not but how do you do that?
It depends on your keybinds and what you're playing on. If you go into your controller settings there will be a specific category for PIP management, I forget what it's called in-game. I play on PS4, so mine are default mapped to the d-pad. Down will reset to 2/2/2, left will allocate SYS, right allocates WEP, up allocates ENG. I would assume you've probably figured it out already, but if not I hope that helped.
'Conda for more storage if you're gonna be in the rings for AWHILE!! Python better for tighter group 'roids since it's so much more maneuverable..Got both & I switch off for boredom's sake...
Other ships are sexier, look better & you will want them to be better than the Python... But whether we like it or not? The Python is without any arguement, the most versatile medium sized ship. (My own personal perspective, is that it is the most versatile in the game) So I would suggest getting one. It is a hard ship to love... But it is the ship I fly the most, cos it just works. Once you get the Corvette? It is unlikely you will fly the Anaconda much again... Personally, I am normally so bored of mining by the time I fill the hold of the Python, that I would say that the Conda, is to much? But do whatever you want to do? There are no rules... ;) Good luck!
This helped so much. I've kitted out an anaconda the same but with double the storage and still have hard points for defense. Mining takes longer but bigger payouts have been nice. Now for engineering
Can anyone help me fairly new to the game trying ti find hotspots on ps5 my dss probes go straight through rings. Do i have to bind something cant figure out what im doing wrong. Thanks in advance
hello there mister hawkes commander sir. i`ve gotten back into elite after a few years of absence and so far your videos have been a really big help for me to get back into the game. i`d like to ask something in regards of "how to" guides. especially when it comes to mining. your vids give a quick and eay to comprehend overview about the task and how to perform it but it would be really helpful if you could make a more "in depth" one. meaning stuff like your control set up, where to put the prospector and normal drone, how to engage the specific scan mode. hell, so far i wasnt even able to move my aim in DSS mode, let alone fire my drones in a way to actually scan 100% of what i`m looking at. i`d highly appreciate such a guide and think i`m not alone in this since this game has quite a steap learning curve for dummies like me. thank you very much in advance and may you make all the space cheddar you desire.
Was there at Omicron Capricorni B a few days ago, but decided to carrier mine at HIP 22352 7 A's inner ring with my Minerconda. It has 320t cargo space. Two overlapping hotspots there that you can mindlessly fill your carrier up in. No pirates there, since it's a good way out of the bubble. As soon as I'm filled up to maximum, I'll then use Inara to find locations to sell. Great video man, appreciate your efforts to get everyone to become rich without grinding their butts off 👍 o7
on video looks cool but in reality is completely different it takes you much more time to find platinum or low temp diamonds Evan on triple overlapping hot spots
played this game a couple years ago on console recently got it again on pc. completely forgot everything and yet here I find myself saying thankyou again 😂
I need a guide like this that starts with the newbie ship and not the kitted out ship. I need to know what I should be doing first with that ship and my starting 250k.
@@HawkesGaming I will dig around more. I was just searching for "elite dangerous mining 2023" since I am new. I ended up just poaching kills from NPCs until I got 2 million. Now I am trying to track down a better ship.
Thanks for the refresher especially for the selling part! Always used Miner's Tool but now see how much better Inara is for timely pricing. Surprised to see no weapons on your ship. I use a Type 10 armed up the ying yang with fighter escort. I look forward to pirate scanning this way I can mine AND collect bounties. :)
I'm so dumb, I'm brand new and didn't know that the prospector limpets showed you the composition to the asteroids... just thought they doubled the output and showed the subsurface stuff. Thanks for making this CMDR, fly safe! o7
So im confused.... i have the exact same ship and the exact same build but your ship can jump 28.43 LY and mine can only jump 15.58..... what gives? And yes everything is EXACTLY the same.
Why is my inara always wrong about where to sell? Always tell me 200k etc. then when I arrive it sells for way less like 50k or something no matter if it was updated very recently or not
Great tutorial for the super rich. Thought it was funny you called the 17 million credit ship a poor man's ship. I'm out here barely scraping by in a cobra and this mining isn't working. Guess I gotta figure out another way..
17 million is indeed a poor man's ship. What I would recommend you to do would be to go to a ressource extraction site (high), wait for the system security to shoot at a wanted ship, and help them a bit, you can just wait for the targeted ship to be low health, and just snatch the reward by attacking it at the end, you don't even have to be the one killing it. If you really hate combat, I recommend the road to riches, exploring is easy, can be done in nearly anything, and has no cost. At the end, if you like mining, just mine, you will get enough money for a better ship in less than a day.
I'm finding 'Blind mining' in that area quicker than using the prospector limpet atm. Filling up my Anaconda in about 90 mins as almost every rock has some platinum in it!
dont do that, an A rated prospector limpet will multiply the amount of loot an asteroid drops by 3.4 times. You may think it's faster but it's actually much much slower.
this video didnt help me. I wanted to know as a beginner how to mine. specifically what i need. but more importantly, where to mine by using the galaxy map's filters.
Actually, prospector is not needed: 5 mining lances, 4x5A collectors, 1x3A collector, and mine everything cruising at 20 m/s in a Cutter. No extra firegroups needed too.
I did too for over a year and a half. It's hard to forget when Elite gameplay transcended any other gameplay. So I'm going to see if I can spark some of those old feels again.

Great timing with your videos. I came back to Elite after a year of Star Citizen. I missed the VR, and the game play dynamics for Space Trucking and Mining are sooooo satisfying.... 😀 Oh yeah and I bought myself a fleet carrier... making so much space cheddar... 😃
One other question, the exclusion list, does it stick between sessions? I'm assuming not.
o7 hawkes do you know any good setting for odyssey for low performance? im planning to buy odyssey and a better graphics card
Thank you for showing your fire groups. That is really helpful. Nice to you back in the cockpit Commander. o7
Can we get a build link for the ship, please? 🙏
Quick question, This is applicable to players on Horizon right?, havent played ED for a year and some and wanna go back by starting with the ol mining way.
Great seeing a new Hawkes Gaming ED(O) video
Is it worth dropping a collector limit control for another 6E cargo rack if you're not speed running and just out mining for general gameplay?
I'm not a speedrunner and not really bothered about how long it takes (as long as I can do some mining to relax and just brain off, no thoughts, relax money making) or will I get too many units to sell in one go?
Youre good to go with one less collector limpet controller. Overall it just means your collecting slower but not like super slow cause you'll still have 6 out at all times.
@@HawkesGaming Ohh awesome! Thanks for the info and build! Doing passenger missions is easy but mission board breaks too frequently and kills the farming run instantly so having a good miner will be far better!
i see you have a lot of engineered things on it, are they needed or is it user preference?
Yes! My dumbass got the hauler thinking it would come with mining gear. Thank you
Damn, I really wish we had at least some of the Elite Dangerous' space/spaceship mechanics in No Man's Sky....
1d modified vs 1d vs 2d... which is better 🤔
Wait you have collectors and lasers on the same button? Doesn't that just keep wasting the limits? I have no idea.
Im following this ship build, but I cant install 5A Collector Limpet Controllers, says its incompatible. Did something change in the last couple months?
Do you know why the hotspots arent showing up for me, i am shooting the probes, dropping out of supercruise and going back in but they wont show up
I'm here because I hate mining...I see the resources floating...I use a limpet ..I don't get them....
How do you choose which rocks to mine?
Your title mentions Odyssey. How do things change if I’m only using Horizons?
Very nice guide - appreciate the ED community.
This is for example the dumbest map around Shinrarta (in 30 ly sphere)
RHODPLUMSITE
LHS 2552 :: Cluster 2
Puppis Sector TO-R b4-4 :: Cluster 3
LHS 346 :: Cluster 3
Timbalderis :: Cluster 1
Timbalderis :: Cluster 4
Timbalderis :: Cluster 5
Timbalderis :: Cluster 6
Aeneas :: Cluster 2
Aeneas :: Cluster 5
Aeneas :: Cluster 7
Puppis Sector OI-T b3-6 :: Clustrer 2 *
Puppis Sector OI-T b3-6 :: Clustrer 5
Heveri :: Cluster 3
Heveri :: Cluster 6 (star atmosphere)
Amalangkan :: Cluster 2
Amalangkan :: Cluster 3
I am pretty sure one of his older vids will give you the right information for that?
There's no platinum spots on Horizons version, also spots won't show even after resetting supercruise. Is there something wrong with this method?
Well made tutorial! Short and to the point! ← Comment for algorithm + 👍 'd
Would an anaconda be better than a python for mining if you could afford it or is python better for faster gather faster return ?
'Conda for more storage if you're gonna be in the rings for AWHILE!! Python better for tighter group 'roids since it's so much more maneuverable..Got both & I switch off for boredom's sake...
Other ships are sexier, look better & you will want them to be better than the Python...
But whether we like it or not?
The Python is without any arguement, the most versatile medium sized ship. (My own personal perspective, is that it is the most versatile in the game)
So I would suggest getting one.
There are no rules... ;)
Good luck!
@@Roblstar But the seat's on the wrong side..lol...
Another great vid bro!!
This helped so much. I've kitted out an anaconda the same but with double the storage and still have hard points for defense. Mining takes longer but bigger payouts have been nice. Now for engineering
Could this work with a type 6? I'm new at the game and I farmed bounty's till 20mil at the noob zone and I needed a better way to make credits
Yes I have a laser mining video for the type 6. You can go it in that ship as well to big profits early on.
@@HawkesGaming cool thanks!
hawkes spittin facts as always
Thanks for this. I was wanting a good tutorial on how to mine. You make it look easy. ;)
does anyone play elite, but no odyssey? Is combat missions still a thing? Does Blitz still play?
Yes blitz is playing. He started a new save I believe.
Your good mood is great.
Thank you for the tips.🤣
Can anyone help me fairly new to the game trying ti find hotspots on ps5 my dss probes go straight through rings. Do i have to bind something cant figure out what im doing wrong. Thanks in advance
step one get python,
step two buy cutter
the gloorious python
hello there mister hawkes commander sir.
i`ve gotten back into elite after a few years of absence and so far your videos have been a really big help for me to get back into the game.
i`d like to ask something in regards of "how to" guides. especially when it comes to mining. your vids give a quick and eay to comprehend overview about the task and how to perform it but it would be really helpful if you could make a more "in depth" one.
meaning stuff like your control set up, where to put the prospector and normal drone, how to engage the specific scan mode. hell, so far i wasnt even able to move my aim in DSS mode, let alone fire my drones in a way to actually scan 100% of what i`m looking at.
i`d highly appreciate such a guide and think i`m not alone in this since this game has quite a steap learning curve for dummies like me.
thank you very much in advance and may you make all the space cheddar you desire.
Haven't played ED for a while, needed the refresher, bout to head out for a load in my Type 9 lol
Great video man, appreciate your efforts to get everyone to become rich without grinding their butts off 👍
o7
on video looks cool but in reality is completely different it takes you much more time to find platinum or low temp diamonds Evan on triple overlapping hot spots
excellent video as always!
played this game a couple years ago on console recently got it again on pc. completely forgot everything and yet here I find myself saying thankyou again 😂
I need a guide like this that starts with the newbie ship and not the kitted out ship. I need to know what I should be doing first with that ship and my starting 250k.
I have multiple guides like that in newb ships.
@@HawkesGaming I will dig around more. I was just searching for "elite dangerous mining 2023" since I am new. I ended up just poaching kills from NPCs until I got 2 million. Now I am trying to track down a better ship.
Thanks Commander o7
Thanks for the refresher especially for the selling part! Always used Miner's Tool but now see how much better Inara is for timely pricing.
Surprised to see no weapons on your ship. I use a Type 10 armed up the ying yang with fighter escort. I look forward to pirate scanning this way I can mine AND collect bounties. :)
I don't bother with prospector limpets any more, I just zap rocks, I think it's faster.
So is engineering required or not? Your build is engineered but you don't show what modifications you used..
Did you engineer it?
His ship definitely is
What's the best way to get Elite explorer rack
I mostly got mine doing passenger missions in robigo.
@@HawkesGaming I didn't know if that still worked. But cool thanks
Thak you 👍
Why is my inara always wrong about where to sell?
Always tell me 200k etc. then when I arrive it sells for way less like 50k or something no matter if it was updated very recently or not
U on xbox or playstation?
Man i wish there was a tractor beam instead of those bloody collector limpets 😭😭
Did FD nerf this planet? I can't target the hotspots and actually drop in
No? I literally went there yesterday and dropped in with no hassle
You may think it's faster but it's actually much much slower.
why did i choose to do core ming sigh
Here I am doing bounties and not making no where near that amount in that time
how do i do without the f python????
I did like cobra mkIII > asp explorer > python
Dude I just wanna mine some rocks and no one explains how to start doing that.
This game is frustrating. Hot spots don't show up regardless on whether or not I go in or out of supercruise. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.
Are you in analysis mode or combat mode? If in combat mode the hotspots will not show up bright.
@@stealth50541 I'm in analysis mode.
this video didnt help me. I wanted to know as a beginner how to mine. specifically what i need. but more importantly, where to mine by using the galaxy map's filters.
I thought Elite was dead to all RUclips and Star Citizen was the future?
Um where's a break down of the build... like the engineering
Actually, prospector is not needed: 5 mining lances, 4x5A collectors, 1x3A collector, and mine everything cruising at 20 m/s in a Cutter. No extra firegroups needed too.
This is not the way you should be laser mining, double overlaps was nerfed in like 2020.
nope
Suggest looking into mining a hotspot overlapping res sites
I gave up on elite
I did too for over a year and a half. It's hard to forget when Elite gameplay transcended any other gameplay. So I'm going to see if I can spark some of those old feels again.
@@HawkesGaming if you’ll be back Hawks then I’ll keep my eye, like button, and more on you buddy
