I think this video should properly be aimed at people who have deleted their character and decided to start again for whatever reason.
For new players this is just showing how to skip the fun and exciting beginning part of the game and move straight into end game, if you're only interested in the pvp or something I guess.
I don't recommend this video to new players.
As a new player, it took me quite a while to actually finish what this tutorial taught me how to do. Found this vid about a month ago, and began following. Very quickly made enough $$$ to buy an anaconda, so I did. Then I discovered the Phantom, fell in love, worked on engineering to get it's jump range up, unlocked about 8 engineers. Then I discovered combat, bought a Chieftain, and did a few wing missions. Eventually, I got down to about $40M in the bank and decided to get back to mining to make some more cheddar. But this time I've been mining in the anaconda, using the python as a fast hauler. Been doing that for the last couple days and am sitting at 97% Elite trader status. Would have been there 2 weeks ago but I've been too distracted having fun with all this cheddar!! Thanks, Hawkes!

Me, too. Started elite just a week ago, and im already addicted to the game, soo much fun, even when i still don't know or understand everything. It does'nt matter that much, cause I have so much fun with it! 😄

I also am feeling clueless.I love this game so much I have completely started over like 5 times now. I get to where you pic a job to do like go mine uranium. Ok great, where the hell do I find uranium??? I look on my list of places to go and see a (high) mining site? I go out and explore and find nothing. I put out my hard points and point at stuff to scan…. Nothing… I have watched many videos only to be more frustrated.
He really does, he misses out explaining so many smaller steps during the core mining parts. I've rewatched about 5 times and I still have no clue how seismic charges work, all of mine just bounce off the roid

the game has an extremely steep learning curve but once you get the hang of it, it’s very rewarding
You will be fine...... once you get your Diploma. But could be worse, you could be taking up Eve, in which case you would need to pass a Degree......
In 2021 Elite Dangerous is for you if:
1) you have no job, no hobby and no life, willing to travel to almost every mission above 10 real-time min;
2) you like to grind, grind and more grind;
3) you can ignore annoying bugs, annoying rules, repetitive and boring gameplay;
4) you are ready to spend more time googling things than actually playing, because this game is THE MOST unintuitive and unnecessarily complicated one I've ever played with no useful tutorial whatsoever;
5) you are ok with no goal in the game;
6) you like meditative games;
7) you like realistic cosmos and starships.
Advice: just go play No Man's Sky instead.

Also, a note about overlaps: While they don't increase the amount of cores, it DOES increase the type of cores, meaning that in double overlaps most cores will be musgravite.
I noticed this with overlapping platinum hotspots. The shape is as common as normal (like, 1 out of 5), they are just muuuuch more likely to contain platinum. Same with alexandrite and ltd, so I would assume this applies to any mineral/metal.

After personally doing nearly 600 hours in-game, my buddy finally just got into Elite! This was my first port of call for a good starter video to send her, as well as the stackable wing mission team start video. Great guide as always Hawkes. Wasn't too long ago I was watching your guides myself to get a good start ;)

If you're new to Elite Dangerous, make sure you watch Hawkes videos, it helped me restart everything and start making space bucks real quick. Don't do those random missions from the space stations without knowing what's it for. Time is money and Elite Dangerous is dangerous... Don't fly out without a buyout.

Bruh, I just started this game, literally can’t even fly the ship properly and Hawkes’ FIRST recommendation for new players is to collect combat bounties from groups of pirates in ship to ship combat? If this is an indicator of the content of his “beginners guides”, that’s gonna be a HARD pass for me.

Edit: maybe I spoke too soon. I can’t even manage fly the ship, yet this dude’s FIRST recommendation for brand new players is to go collect combat bounties from groups pirates? Yikes. I think maybe a delivery mission would be a good place to start, not ship to ship combat against multiple enemies.
Day two for me and all I did was bounty hunting till I hit 100m. Off to buy a Python man. Best to learn how to fly in pve and get used to combat when you're in a side winder. It's free if you fuck up

I just started playing this year, got the game on the Steam Winter Sale, and I just wanted to say thank you a lot for all your effort making these guides! I found your 2019 starter video and oh boy, it did help me A LOT. I know that video is almost 2 years old but that one taught me all the essentials and what to google to learn more. Now I am already on my 5th trip with the Python and very close to Elite rank thanks to your help. Maybe it took me a little longer than it should but I am enjoying this game a lot. Keep up the great job.

This is so incredibly confusing
New player here, if you prefer controls like that of space engineers, go into control settings and set mouse X axis to yaw, flight rotation for roll to Q and E, and lastly flight thrust for left and right thrust to A and D. Hope it helps. :)

That mug is symbolic, you'll find it at the end of many long grinds in different forms. There's no reward, just time spent getting there, so get used to it.

06:00 if you have become WANTED then open up nav panel (just press key 1 in the top row of keyboard) and find a system that is represented in green colour, this means it's a low security system and you can pay your fine there and get right back to the action. ty Cmdr Hawks Gaming and please keep uploading.
dude I am loving all the UHF clips in your videos. Weird Al was my first live concert I ever saw, it was like 1997 and I was in 6th grade. UHF is still one of the funniest stoner movies in my collection.

Thanks Hawkes, great guide. It got me into a python super quick and helped me learn core mining from the point of being complete space newb. If others are struggling to recognise cores just persevere. Once you find a few you'll get it and you'll be farming space lemons in no time.
I've sunk over 277hours into this game and barely got anywhere i hope some of these guides will help me figure out better ways to play the game.
though i'll admit being a space tourist bus is a lot of fun.
I orginally picked up ED a few yrs ago got frustrated from being lost and stopped playing, decided to give it another go build a sim rig wtched this video and a few days later i just bought a python thanks alot man!

I particularly appreciate the heads up on scanning ships before shooting them, as that likely would've been something I missed as I'm too bloodthirsty lmao.
Thanks so much, I basically went from 0 to hero with this guide. Seriously, a few tens of hours playing and I'm over 150mil and running a python because of following this guide closely. May have been shorter, but I spent a lot of time just learning other stuff like FA off flying and exploring random planets in VR lol.
Hawk gives the best info on any game he touches, and what's more important is he cares about the community... not just his subs.

@Hawks Gaming Though the long-range exploration has been nerfed, you just had a lower yield run on this one. I still made 12.2m from just 20 jumps.
I hadn't played on PC yet until I built my system (mostly console). I started out with 49k after the tutorial and hit up a high res site in my Sidewinder and followed the police around for about an hour.
I kept seeing bounty rewards like 85-140k. But then I looked in transactions....4.5 MILLION!!! This was in Nana btw...Thanks for the vid!
I'm not new to the game, original kickstarter backer but did take a fairly prolonged break before getting back into late 2020. Just wanted to say that your videos have been invaluable in minimizing the grind so that I can maximize my limited play sessions - adulthood, eh? Sure there is still a bit of a grind, but I don't expect to have it all handed to me either, and what grind there is has been made considerably more fun by folk such as yourself. So thanks very much, keep it up!

(I'm playing on enjoying the game with a Krait MKII, wouldn't want to spend that much time in that tiny sidewinder x)

New commander here, just wanna say thank you for this guide. A friend recommended me to this game and I'm glad I got it. In game tutorials are nice but your much more entertaining to watch. I'm on console and it was a bit overwhelming to see how many actions and button combo's there are to do things.

Watched this several times and learned a lot, but the mining just isn't working. I drift around for HOURS and might find one core. Very few light up bright, and when they do, they don't have that black grid but I prospect them anyway thinking I might be second guessing myself, but they end up being duds. I went back to detail scanning planets because I was making more money doing that than wasting hours on end in an asteroid field.
Mining sucks ass, space trucking rules. Also passenger missions at robigo mines
A better power set up for the python is with a 6A power plant and a 4A life support to boost the integrity back up. The 7A power plant is no good as its over by 0.1 which means you have to switch off a module, which you failed to mention if you go with your set up.
As a returning player this is great. But i can imagine for new players would be confusing cause you're not showing everything or the keybinds for them

If anyone is lost after arriving at the blue giant and seeing no pirates, make sure you target one of the "high resource" locations around the blue giant then fly there to get started farming.

To ED Newbs; Don't get discouraged. Once you get past the steep Elite Dangerous learning curve, AND the steep Hawkes Gaming lingo and speed talking curves, then everything makes sense. It all just falls into place and "clicks" suddenly.
Hawkes "drink from the firehose" approach is a good thing though. It forces you to learn quickly and seek answers elsewhere, i.e. the support sites Hawkes links. I am already accustomed to Hawkes lingo and methods from his NMS best start videos, so this made sense to me after viewing once; albeit with several pauses and rewinds. In NMS I can do Hawkes best start in my sleep.
I will add one tip not seen elsewhere. Everyone says "Do the training." But what should be emphasized is "Do the training several times until you are familiar with the controls and feel comfortable." Then just get out there and be someone!
Did this scanning the interesting planets with DSS (those that were less than 1000Ls from the star at least) and got 33m credits. It most definetely pays off. Still i pretty much followed this vid to the letter and got a whole bunch of money for it :D Great guide!..
A double musgravite spot wont spawn more rocks but it will increase the chance of a musgravite core

Hell yeah. Another easy way alone in a sidewinder or eagle for very, very FIRST starters is do a easy mission or two after learning the basic scanning and flying, and whip out that DSS (Detailed Surface Scanner.) as soon as you get a better FSD. Set your star map to (I think) to K and M stars only. The cooler ones, like ours in real life. Jump to a system with these stars and DS, FSS. the said planets to see if they are there. Easy start up money in the millions if you're soloing. You'll most likely find high value planets in those "planet habital" stars. Like an Earth-like world would more likely be there so if you do all the scans, that's an easy 3,249,900 credits. "Terraformable" worlds will pay 7 figures, too. Like, a rocky body isn't much, but a terraformable rocky body will be about 1.5 million credits, and a water world like this is about 3.2 million with all the scans. Just turn them in further away than where you found them and rack up to get better stuff to do the "better" stuff like the video quicker. Fire... I was literally thinking of naming one of my Corvettes "Beavis" and have it yellow. lol

My guy the title said for new players, you go so fast you are clearly teaching to returning players. Your title is misleading. I dont have a clue what your saying and go so fast I'm not sure if you are trying to do a speed run on the video itself or what.

I feel like this is more of a basic guide, like: Do A, B, then C. After you’ve watched this, you can then find in depth tutorials for A, B, and C.

If you have odyssey expansion, you can complete high intensity ground conflict zones to get a headstart
Go to a system with "War" state
Dock at a station, Disembark and head to frontline solutions
PIck a high intensity conflict zone, choose any faction with best standing
I would finish enemys while they have very little health
THen juust go to frontline solutions and cash in your bonds
This hotspot is so empty, I've been flying for half an hour and can't find a single asteroid to deep core >.
Very helpful video, ED is hard to get into! Minor issue with the Python build in the description; it's 0.1 over the power output so when you deploy at a site it will offline your cargo hatch. Either upgrade power plant to 6A or get clever with the priorities so it changes state as you deploy/retract. I wasn't paying attention when I dropped into a ring and it took me a while to figure out my hatch was powered off.
I bought this game for like $5 in the Summer sale last year, and got a Quest 2 a few weeks ago, and waiting on a X52 Hotas. Haven't even touched the game yet, gonna wait until I have the complete setup for VR.
I know I'll like it, been playing EvE Online since 2007, and I want a more complex space sim.
Spent the weekend on a brand new character after a few years hiatus. This guide works like a charm! Things to note:
When in the Hauler be sure to do 1 of two things; Surface Scan all ELW and TWW to 30 on R2R or explore another 10-20. When you upgrade to the Explorer spend the extra space cheddar and upgrade that powerplant to 5B. That'll help with trying to figure out the module management.
Do the same thing for the python. Make some extra space bucks in the ASP Explorer and upgrade that Powerplant one letter grade.
P.S. Musgravite is becoming saturated- at least this past weekend so expect making a few extra trips Commander.

i used your guide to unlock the engineers, i never thought id be able to do it, but with some perseverance i have unlocked most of the important once and have being engineering a few of my fleet of 15 ships, thank you for making these helpful videos it got me right back into the game again
This is a high level summary not a guide. I can't get past the step where I'm supposed to travel somewhere and NPCs would pop up that I could fight.

Super helpful. I'm about to get back into ED after being away for a couple years. Migrated from Xbox to PC, so I am starting over from almost 0. I am still transfering all my wealth from Xbox which will give me a serious leg up. BUT having a fast track to rank is ideal. I can't wait to get back into a corvette and anaconda.

Brilliant guide…I’ve just come back to the game in the first time since 2016…and restarted it.
I agree with the bounty hunting start and did the same thing in 2016 and my restart in 2022 which is keep my finger on the trigger while attacking bounties that other ships are attacking that way you usually get the kill even if your shots are doing bugger all damage. That’s the beauty of gimballed pulses!
2 hours of bounty hunting got me 7 million by picking on deadly and deadly targets already in combat.
170 hours played and just made it into Shinatra Dezhra. Two hours after starting the game I tried to follow your old guide, very slowly learned how outdated it was, screwed around mining and grinded out a cutter, but I'm finally at the engineering part
Ended up sticking with the asp ex then exploring and then buying the krait mk2 for combat and exploration cheers for getting me this far
I would reccomend following this tutorial. it seems weird that you start blasting right away, but you cant get hurt with that method and just 10 ships killed will get you your first mission. you don't even need to deliver the killing blow to get the bounty, just let the cops take off shield and most of hull and then try to contribute as much as you can.

This guy has the best tips and tricks and guides in elite dangerous. Consis and not overwhelming at and if you do the steps as he says you will get used to the game and become even faster at each task
Man, as a person that has a bit of understanding on this game, your explanation is very good and compact. Keep it up. Just make sure to put more icons and legends for a new player to grab it more easily rather than let them guessing which is which.
My best advice if your starting new at elite dangerous is take the game to your local game-store and trade it in for a game that won’t give your a future stroke from stress.

This was absolutely my favorite game on the Commodore 64 in the mid80s.
I remember havin a fuel scoop for sun runs, the coppertop generator system( no other system looks like it or lasts like it) full perimeter military grade lasers and whatever else I could fit on it. The money was in narcotics. With 25 tonne payload i buy as lpw as .10 credit per tonne and sell as high as 100 credits a tonne. Easy money. Then just clean up the police patrols and land. And a whole 20000 planets to explore.
So far, I've managed to gain a Sol permit, buy a bunch of ships (Viper Mkiii, Hauler and a Python) and reach 100 million in the bank. Today I spent about 2 hours mining Musgravite in GCRV 375 in a newly acquired Python. I was only able to find 69T of Musgravite in the double hot spot. The rest was Monazite (15T) and Serendibite (59T). I ran out of Prospector limpets searching for core astroids :(
Everything was going amazingly up until yesterday. The previous night I had exited the game whilst mining in GCRV 375 (solo). As soon as I loaded up the game yestersay, I was being scanned by pirates then attacked. As I was mass locked I couldnt escape in my ASP explorer loaded up with 64T of Musgravite. First time I've died mining. Now my Python has enough sheilds to save me from the same mistake.

I just hopped on over to Ceos and grinded courier missions until I got my Sol permit, now I'm headed to Sol. That's all I really wanted to do in this game so I could check out our own solar system. It took me about 3 hours and I've $10 mil cr, I guess I'll buy another ship or something idk.

I started in E:D when Epic put it up for free, last fall. I had an Anaconda in 2 days. It was so easy, the way you laid it out, and so funny that it kept my attention. This is another winner, and I watched, even though I've actually started working on my Corvette, thanks to your video!
I'm off to finish grinding the Federation (just visited Sol for the first time last night), following your Sothis/Ceos plan, then I think I'll watch your core mining video, and get to that billionaires' club!

Everyone don’t watch videos until you know a lil about the game because your not going to know what anyone’s talking about. I’m a new player and just struggling and the occasional google or RUclips vid has helped me a lot
Look at my latest best start as well as complete the tutorials before playing the actual game. FDEV does a good job hold holding your hand teaching you the controls. Only if you do the tutorials though.

Once again thank you. I jumped the gun and bought the ASP Explorer instead of the Hauler (memory needs a reboot), so the route to riches is taking longer than it should; but the extra 13 million at the end of it will help me fit it out for the musgravite core mining. My main goal in own a Krait MK II, but I will continue to use your guide to keep the funds rolling in...
OK, I just came back to Elite after about a 3-4 year break. I search for Elite start 2021 and find this video. See repeated use of the greatest comedy of all time but can only like the video once.
