I've had this game since kickstarter but never really got into it until now. Of the few starter vids I've watched yours is the most informative. It's a beginner guide and that's what you've made. So many beginner guides treat you like you have some idea how mining (among other things) works and don't tell you the bits that experienced players take for granted. This has helped me a ton. Thank you thank you. Subscribed. Please keep the videos coming.

FYI to new players, if you are destroyed with unclaimed bounties on your 1 screen, you will lose all those unclaimed bounty credits...Also, I recommend you play in Solo mode for quite a while. There's so many extremely over powered engineered ships, that even a fully built Fer De Lance(non engineered) will stand no chance against even the smallest fully engineered ships with experienced players behind the helm

@@TsvetanVR right, I have about 1,100 hours into ED now, close to Elite rank in Combat, have my Federal Corvette fully A rated, and STILL only play in Solo, never once been to open. Ide stand zero chance in open even with a fully A rated Corvette. However, I will say that 2 of my 3 multi cannons are grade 2-3 engineered. The rest of my Vette is just A rated

8:29 no, you will not get kicked out if you get combat rank, you will loose the permit if you rank up *and then* land at any station outside the starter area. you can rank up, go all the way to beagle point, and be able to return to the starter system, so long as you don't actually land at a station/settlement outside the starter area
and to avoid confusion, you can leave the starter system and return so long as you dont rank up. i was able to leave once, picked up a kill warrant scanner, an imperial eagle and a rate some of the core internals and was able to return because I didn't rank up

A couple of pointers to make this start even easier. When looking for cores turn on your night vision. It makes finding the fissures of the core asteroids easier to spot before launching a probe into it. When cracking those cores look first to see what types of fissures you have. If you have 2 or more low types start with those. First charge set it to max by holding the button you use to launch until all 3 bars fill (think of them as low, medium, high) and on the second only go to low charge. This should almost put you in the blue zone if not in it. Finish getting the blue zone by using either a third low fissure or a medium and simply tap the launch button. Jet away to just over the 1 km mark and detonate. If you only have 1 low fissure from the list go max charge on the low, then max on a high. Once again tap charge on a medium to get yourself in the blue. I've found this saves a lot on wasting fissures if you screw up.
Another thing I've found is when you're about to leave the starter zone make certain to fill your mission board with 30K+ missions (you can get a max of 20 missions). Don't load any cargo from the transport missions (you won't actually be doing these missions). When you land on the station outside the starter zone you'll get messages saying that you failed the missions but you'll still get paid for them as if you'd completed them. It's an easy extra 800K+. I do this all the time when I'm experimenting with fresh starts and usually go from the start port to Otegine, Matet, and then to wherever the exploring the galaxy mission takes me.

    Some remarks:
    1. At 27:50 "stuff is not going anywhere"
Actually if you wait long enough, they will self-destroy. Don't know the exact time, but if I had to guess it's somewhere to 10...15 minutes range.
    2. In relation to 1., there is a long standing bug FD never solved or cared about, it's the clipping of fragments into the bigger asteroids. In fact, if you don't have the experience, these things will cause you a lot of headache since any rooky player will repeatedly launch a collector limpet, since the one launched a second ago destroys itself by heading banzai right into the asteroid hoping to reach for the clipped chunks.

Great guide, it's fun to start with combat, and quickly making banks in the process. I actually accidentally level pass harmless, but at that point I already have over 6m to start with. No choice but to find a spot somewhere else to mine. Wanted to see a Neutron Star so went to nearby LHS 145, found some really nice material at planets with rocky rings that sells for decently high price (~80% of max price) just one jump away in neighbouring systems. Also relatively safe, no pirates or anyone around. I didn't quite make 40m per run, just 15~20m as I also equip a shield instead of cargo space. The real headache once you had about 70~80m is... WHICH ONE TO CHOOSE : KRAIT MK ii OR PYTHON ?!?! 😩🤣

Judging from the comments it looks like you did a great job, but for me I'm going to have to read the manual first because a lot of the terms you are using don't make sense and I assume that most of the other commentators have a good foundation for this game. I've played elite since 2017 and for 3 years I only made money doing missions from various stations and selling cartographs. I've managed to climb to an upgraded asp explorer with that horrible habbit. In early 2022, I introduced a friend to the game and after I went to bed one night, He figured out how to deep core mine and was able to surpass me in one day compared to me in 3 years. I took me a while to figure out how to use third party tools and my equipment to do it but I am already rolling in over 500 mil and climbing to get the corvette and maybe a fleet carrier if it's worth.

Another tip if you’re starting out guys: if you can be bothered fly around to lots of stations and collect the expensive mission, (as long as you haven’t ranked up in any category you can land anywhere without losing your permit and go back). Look for missions that pay out 100k+ fill up your transaction log with 20 mission and DONT COMPLETE THEM. After you follow the rest of the start of this tutorial, when you rank up you will have about 3M from the pirates and I got a further 3M from missions that get paid out for sitting in your log when your permit gets revoked. Sorry it’s a bit long but thought it might be helpful. I started out with 6.5m

A good mod for this process might be to buy the Cobra after you get about 1.5 mil and buy the burst laser and the cannon to finish the pirate segment: better shield, thrust , and handling out of the box. Then, finish the pirate segment and jump to NANABOZHO for the refit. I ended up making almost 3.5 million before I hit about 95% Harmless. Another thought: I don't know if this is consistently the case, but I had much better spawns in the inner DROMI High Resource area. The one near DROMI 3 was dead for more than half an hour, and it never picked up.

I've had the game for about 2 years now and just recently came back after a very long hiatus from it. When i stopped playing i had about 260m and my trusty ASP Explorer and a big ole cargo ship. I restarted from 0 because I didn't know the controls anymore and wanted to get back into it. In the time that I played since i have gotten the game, I have NEVER ran into another player at all. I play solo in open all the time. So when I come back recently, nothing has changed. Still no other players ever in my part of the universe, which is fine by me lol. Anyways, THIS start is not something i would recommend for new players. My suggestion is to get more than your combat rating up while in the "noob" zone. Do all the missions that are within you level range (which is just about 1 level higher and less). When you get about 10 million and gotten a better ship, consider leaving the noob area and heading off to explore on your own. More than that, you should be prepared to choose a side. I RP as an Imperial under Aisling Duval. She gives great $$ bonuses for high valued sales of wares. I also use Inara and my Type 7 to find the best trade routes, making about 20 million an hour. Right now I'm sitting on 90 Million and 6 ships, 1 or 2 for each class (fighter, hauling, taxi, etc). Don't get me wrong, this is a good start, but you can make more casual money and NEVER risk dying as much by just doing trade run loops.

hell, i even fit one to my mining ship. while my ship piloting itself to drop off mining equipment to get more jump range, ill be alt tabbed on inara looking for the best sell point, which actually saves time on the landing pad if you were to alt tab and look for sell point on the pad

The Detailed Surface Scanner must be used while in supercruise and within a certain range, typically, I prefer to supercruise over the top of the planet so I can see the whole ring from above, then use the DSS on the ring from there, and cruise down into the spots you want, then you want to drop out of super cruise and swap to your pulse wave scanner, full throttle your ship in one direction but don't enter SC, scan things as you go that way, typically the asteroids that light up super far away are the ones you want. Hope this helps and I'm not too late a month later lol.
Also, useful websites for this are Inara.cz and EDDB.io

Thanks Zephyr! I watched a vid that showed a ship slowly over a ring & hitting the DSS periodically & it would light up the rocks with cores. I can't recreate that detailed search method. Any suggestions? Thanks much for the help.

@@jimraue4801 No problem, well the DSS is the Detailed Surface Scanner, that's the one you use to light up the planet's ring and discover ore hotspots, the one that you repeatedly pulse is the Pulse Wave Scanner, which you flash again and again while inside those hotspots.
There could a number of issues as to why things aren't working properly, I specified which tool was which just in case you might have gotten them mixed up too. One problem is that, not only does the DSS require you to be in supercruise to use it, but it also has a maximum range you use it within, basically, you should be in as low of speed as you can be in supercruise, slow and close enough to the ring and planet that the "Too fast" or "Out of Range" text under the Surface Scanner text goes away. You also must have your cockpit set to be in analysis mode, you don't need combat mode whatsoever for mining unless a pirate gets frisky with you, the cockpit mode is set to be blue for analysis mode and orange for combat mode.
Once you're inside a hotspot, you want to swap fire groups to your Pulse Wave, remaining in analysis mode too (all scanners, mining lasers, seismic charge launchers and abrasion blasters will work in analysis mode as well) Then, like I mentioned, you want to deploy hardpoints and throttle up, typically I like to allocate power to mainly engines and systems with one pip left for weapons, angle myself so the asteroids are above me so I can see them easier by either flipping over or flying underneath, going in a straight line so I don't double back on asteroids I already saw, and spam my Pulse wave.
That's about as detailed as I can put it I think, if you followed the video regarding setting up all the equipment and setting your fire groups correctly then power and button assignments shouldn't a problem, also turning on night vision is always a good idea unless you're in a bright ice ring. You *can* go into third person camera as well, sometimes that helps if you have a ship with a less fishbowl style of cockpit, you just have to press a certain button to switch from camera controls to ship controls, I currently use a controller so that's the left stick click to me. Apart from that I'd say stick fairly close to the asteroids as your flying by them too, you definitely want to stay out of the cluster of them but as close as you can fly without hitting them is best so you can maximize the coverage of the Pulse Wave and not have to dodge rocks constantly.
I hope this helps, it's hard to diagnose issues without seeing things for myself but I can try to offer some more detail and clarifications

And also I recently had my docking assist get me fined because it decided to have make my ship have a seizure at the entrance of the station

My biggest problem with this guide is your Cobra not having shields.
*Don't suggest new players attempt core mining for the first time without shields* , especially when they just spent all their credits and might not have enough for a rebuy.
I know you're trying to maximize space, but it's not worth the risk for a new player.

Well this is easy but i recon as a beginner to just start trading and selling data and start with trading missions and cargo hauling even tho at start you will not be able to sell cargo for big bucks you sure will get a easier start then core mining its ok if you dissagree with me, but that's how i started out and within 3 hours bought a bigger ship enough to haul more cargo to sell for profit, within 6 hours into the game i was able to get a big jumper like the scout to sell data and scan systems within 1 full day i bough the krait mk III to fight pirates take on bounty's cash them in and boom annaconda in no time

Anyone doing this bounty hunting start. Remember you can see the bounty value on the contacts menu section. Don’t hit any worth less then 50K.
Are you still making videos. When I started your videos are so much more to my liking then most of the other content creators. If so I would love to see a core mining spotters guide. I still struggle to spot them. With the scanner.

After that one mining run, how much of your % in the starter system did you use? I didn't have as much cargo space as you and after 2 asteroids mined I was at 47% left before getting kicked out of the starter system. I mined 2 different things that were both around 800k Cr. but I made the mistake of forgetting to go to the places that would pay that much. :(

Im wondering if they changed it so this plan is not possible. I checked to see if I could get a transport booking to matet but even under long range it say its too far (I believe 130+ LY from HIP 97950).
