I've been cruising back and forth between Ceos and Sothis in a Sidewinder, doing primarily courier and sensitive data missions, and carrying no cargo. I didn't get interdicted a single time until I reached the rank of Petty Officer, and now get interdicted constantly. Fortunately, I learned the escape vector mini-game pretty quickly (easy in an agile Sidewinder), and haven't been stopped once yet. Having said that, I'll probably lose my little ship soon, lol - luck is made to run out
Thank you! I'm a few days in, and thanks to your vids I am running these Ceos / Sothis missions in my Asp Explorer and beginning to rank up. And that supercruise trick? Awesome! saves *so* much time!
It seems we share a love of Sci-fi and space. Love your videos and they have taught me quite a bit. Not far into the game, and currently mining in Type 9, just doing Painite runs from Delkar to Kommovy, but inching closer to buying the Anaconda, and starting faction work on the Cutter. Thanks for the great content.
Time to fill up the Type 9 with platinum, I think I'm gonna need the cash. I will get a Cutter and Corvette, and I will stay married, I hope. Great vid btw, helped me out a lot subb'd!
This is an awesome guide. I also used a Diamondbacks explorer and tore through 60m by the time I got to Earl. Just a heads up though, I got an interdiction every 3rd cycle, and the last time he got me, my own fault. I got complacent with super cruise assist and didn’t see I was about to get smacked until it was too late to evade. Keep enough cash on hand to pay the insurance on your boat and you’ll be fine. I’m a little slower but did the grind this way in 7 hours.
The grind is real. Took me probably over 12 hrs total to grind to Duke and over 100 million in donations! And now on to the Vette! Thanks for the videos love your tutorials
I didn't realize the recipient faction affected reputation also, thanks for pointing that out. I'll use this when I go for the Cutter (already unlocked my death star)
I’ve been looking for a video like this for weeks. I’ve seen others that were meh but someone on a random vid mentioned these systems in the comments but no guidance. I spent days trying to get there and even needed to call the fuel rats lol. Literally the day I made it to ceros this vid came out. Also yesterday was my birthday so the galaxy is good to me!
Try also the systems near Mainani! Tewinicnii-HIP 10716-Wu Guinagi-Rynchi... Always maxed out courier missions, nearly only empire minor factions, and a lot of donation missions as well. The stations are close to the central star. You will rank much faster and you have a backup, if the system states of the mainani-loop are switching.
When I did this , I donated about 5 million for the rep . Then did a round trip between the 3 stations ( 20 missions ) . That should net you about 4 / 5 million. Then you go back , cash it all in , load up another 20 worth , then donate the 5 million you just made back for extra rep . Rinse and repeat that . You´ll be done quickly and not cost you any money ( except the 5 mill you started with) I used to mix in a few easy assassin pirate missions just to break it up abit . You get some good rep / money . You dont have to do that though ( takes longer , but if you get bored, lol ! ). Those Imperial War Grannies LOL !
One thing about the assist is that its easier to think about it like this. 75% throttle (blue) when target is 6 seconds away. I just have a bind to throttle me to 75% (RS+LB) or whatever u want.
hey i saw this video and i have been doing this for a bit and i decided to do passenger missions in brunell hub instead. it probably takes a little bit longer but some of the passengers give a high rep boost and almost all of them require me to jump to the same system and scan the same beacon that isnt too far away from the systems sun. also they give more money even if i choose the rep boost. not only did this video did help me grind my ranks, but i found a new way to make loads of money and parts too.
@@HawkesGaming Thank you so much! I wasted so much time on the Ochosi(?) route... I left the imperials for the next, so a bit more 'pleasant' grind will be my last. Again, huge thanks!
OK, so I've been doing the Sothis-Ceos Loop for a little over a day. This is a GREAT LOOP, THANK YOU! But a couple modifications to make to the advice how to do this. First, do not take a DBX or any other small/medium ship set up to explore, with tiny shields. There are 1-4 Killer Anaconda NPCs sent to kill you on every leg of this loop. Much better, bring a solid fighting medium ship like a Krait M2 and kill an Anaconda or two when they Interdict you on each leg of the loop. You can build Combat Rating while you grind Fed Rank, pick up tons of those juicy new bounties, and a pile of engineering materials to boot. There are also 4-5 star Rep missions for delivering 80-180T along the loop, and some of them pay very well once you're Allied w/ Federation Unite! faction. So take your Fuel Scoop, Guardian FSD Booster, and a couple HRP out of your build and put Cargo in so you can do those in one trip. Just make sure you're confident killing Anaconda NPCs because they are out in force, everywhere.
@Asagi Asagiri There are multiple triple hot spots for diamonds as well as a super strong three / four on diamonds. Right now there are at least 3 really good places to farm diamonds in. Before we only had Borann and one triple near Colonia. The triple I showed off the day of the patch is only 60 ly from Borann.
Thanks for the vid...almost there with the Federation grind. Hope the Empire one is easier and quicker. Taken so long... sort of knew the super cruise time saver but didn’t know the speed and distance it works from; will be taking note for the future. Didn’t know the pick missions via destination either so that should help. Two more tips; filter on Transport for the missions and if you don’t get a courier rank up mission, try exiting game into Open play and check the board again as sometimes it changes that mission. Then can enter back into Solo play to continue. Cheers for the vidz Hawkes! Much appreciated. Luckily I started the grind after a few good LTD mining runs so plenty of cheddar in the bank!
Doing your credit grind at the moment. After I get enough credits I'll start looking into things like this! I got the Python thanks to you and those 2D mining lasers kick ass compared to the ASP explorer with 1 2D and some 1D's.
What about passenger missions with a beluga? I read somewhere that was a way to rank up for fed as well. I did the grind for imperial and have a cutter all engineered. Now I want a vette. Let me know hawk as I have a beluga parked at ceos. You forgot to mention to the viewer's how far away these 2 systems are from the bubble. Something to consider. You remind me of my self when I was your age. I'm 62 and am fascinated with space exploration but back in the late 80's and early 90's there wasn't much as far as pc games that let someone explore that dream. Keep up the great work.
Do you keep doing rep missions even though you are ally with each of the factions in the systems shown here? Do the rep missions count toward the factions or Imperial once you are ally with the factions?
Supercruise, by accident i found that if you are either going a little faster than 2c, or if you lock to the target just before 3s it will actually drop you within docking request range, usually just 3km i dont have this down as a science just yet and i've actually passed through a few stations and emerged with the station behind me(but still within docking range)
if the planetary mission is for the same settlement it works out. the mission data point will reset after 2 min no logout and in stuff. scan it 20 times tour all set deliver, i think it was HIP 68065 near ceos.
Sothis and Ceos don't work any more as there is only one Federation faction there now. Chakpa and Ochosi might work if the faction states are right. Otherwise just find a system with 3+ Federation factions in them and just keep running any missions that offer 4 or 5 rep.
Once I learned to land myself, this game opened up to me, the next thing I knew, I was trying to boost a beluga through the port hole of every station carrying illegal passengers, and slaughtering everything in sight with an FDL or larger.
It's worth mentioning that if you do this in open play you will eventually come across someone who is chilling on the landing pad so you won't be able to dock. Just another reason to do in solo mode.
I did the Fed rank grind almost exactly the way you suggest. This was about a month ago. The game kept siccing NPC assassins to interdict me and some of those had godlike powers. There was no way to avoid interdiction, and I would essentially die within about 30 seconds of dropping out of FSD. And they wouldn't always stop after killing me once. Many times the same NPC would kill a second and third time. I had one kill me 6 times in a row while I was traveling between the same two stations because I had courier missions to hand in, which by the way don't go away when you die, they are still valid. I can't tell you how close I came to rage quitting and uninstalling. The whole grind, because of the repeated interdictions took, I am guessing, about 30 hours. And it was miserable.
@@bamandabp You don't understand. I would only get maybe 5 seconds to evade the interdiction, then be forced out of cruise and be dead in less than a minute. I don't think there is a player alive who could have beaten that, not flying an Asp Explorer.
@@mikewilson3169 Mike that usually happens when you accidentally throttle back. Youre very best bet is to do those types of missions with a ship that is very maneuverable. That way evading interdiction is a piece of cake. Just dont throttle back on accident.
Huh, what great timing. Just one day after I'm done with both (finished the Fed grind yesterday and can now buy my very on Elite Star Destroyer)! I did Mainani-Ngalinn for Empire, I only rarely went to Aitvas (mostly when there were next to no missions to either of the former systems), and I used next to no donations, just courier jobs. For Federation, I did the Canopus-Exphiay trade runs, doing cargo/courier jobs in a Type 9 Heavy, with a few donation missions - most of them eventually gave me some followup missions, it seems. It may not have been the most efficient route, but I watched a lot of YT in the background, while waiting for the 40k Ls trip in Canopus to end. Plus I got paid a bunch of credits and engineering mats.
If there are damaged stations about (which I think there is in Imperial space right now), passenger rescue missions grind rank even faster. In a Python fitted to carry 96 passengers, three runs allowed me to jump two ranks in no time.
At first, all three destinations were filling me up completely on missions but now none of the three areas are giving me any carrier missions, all 3 systems are in boom
I guess they nerfed something, but there's no way you can grind federal rep from zero to corvette in 7 hours, i've been following this guide to the letter and spent over 2 days grinding, still no federal corvette, also there are no engineering resources available as rewards.
No way this is possible in 7 hours even if you are getting 20 missions per run. I'm doing it now and it sis taking longer than 7 hours. But I guess he's got to lie about the time for the views.
Could you explain how to see if it 'ends with Federal agent'? I see no hint anywhere in the mission text on whether it's turned in on Federation rep or not.
As Usuall great tutorial and it's good that it's mostly work even now, But they are changes... U need 200M not 100M, and caourier missions not spawn that often, so it took me around 7h to get Imperial Duke for Cutter. But still, supercruise assist trick work like charm! I cannot live without it now ;) Problem is only one: I spend all money (because mistakes too) and now start to grind for cutter again, but thanks to another tutorial with mining, I get it in 2-3 days :D
Only 7 hours? What did you do? It took me around 12 hours to get duke and ive spent over 12 hours for the federal navy rank and i am only at Lieutenant. Is the federal navy meant to be harder? And are you selecting missions only for the empire or are you getting missions from all the agents at each station
I'd suggest starting the Imperial rank grind first when you get a Cobra with an A-rated FSD. I did the Imperial grind first. By the time I got to Sothis and Ceos I had a Clipper and Cutter, doing the cargo missions as well as the data mission made me a great deal of money while I did the Fed rank grind. I ended up making enough money to fully kit out my Cutter, a new Krait MK2, 6 other ships(3 of them Medium), and still have enough to buy a Federal Corvette at base price, much more then two birds with one stone. There's a lot of money to be made, I'd suggest at least having a ship with the same cargo capacity as a Python as a minimum for the Sothis and Ceos runs.
I was literally in Sothis, Ceos, and Robigo doing passenger mnissions for cash. Then I went back to the bubble to do rank griding. Didn't realize I now have to go back 250 LY to do your guide :(.
Of course you can pick planetary landing missions. Just outfit a small ship with enhanced thrusters with dirty drag drives (Viper Mk.3 is a cheap and reliable choice), head down to the planetary settlement, scan the beacon from inside your ship at point blank range then scram your 4$$ off before ground weaponry inflicts significant dmg on your ship. From personal experience, the great majority of imperial rank missions were planetary scans.
Lol I was just about to look for a vid to grind rank then yours came out Imao :)

Needed this for my Cutter. Thank you!!
You're most welcome!
That's about what it took me too. Very happy to see that duke rank finally pop up.
I didn't realize the recipient faction affected reputation also, thanks for pointing that out. I'll use this when I go for the Cutter (already unlocked my death star)
How can you tell the recipient faction is federation?
What did you fit on the "Aged cheddar"(Diamondback exsplorer)
When I did this , I donated about 5 million for the rep . Then did a round trip between the 3 stations ( 20 missions ) . That should net you about 4 / 5 million. Then you go back , cash it all in , load up another 20 worth , then donate the 5 million you just made back for extra rep . Rinse and repeat that . You´ll be done quickly and not cost you any money ( except the 5 mill you started with)
I used to mix in a few easy assassin pirate missions just to break it up abit .
Still working as of April 2021 for fed grind
At first i was a bit annoyed the gutamaya ships dont get luxury cabins. Then i remembered who the Gutamaya ships are FOR.
Not your passengers
hey i saw this video and i have been doing this for a bit and i decided to do passenger missions in brunell hub instead. it probably takes a little bit longer but some of the passengers give a high rep boost and almost all of them require me to jump to the same system and scan the same beacon that isnt too far away from the systems sun. also they give more money even if i choose the rep boost. not only did this video did help me grind my ranks, but i found a new way to make loads of money and parts too.
Thanks to your mining guides I have found myself with too many credits and too little imperial rank... timing couldn't have been better! 😊
How awesome! Glad to have helped your gameplay Commander!
Is there a more up to date version of this grind?
Did I undestand it correctly? I could pick up non-fed missions and they could lead me to federation ranks when I turn them in in other stations?
As long as the beginning or ending agent is federation then yes. You can tell by the picture when you to go select it.
@@HawkesGaming Thank you so much! I wasted so much time on the Ochosi(?) route... I left the imperials for the next, so a bit more 'pleasant' grind will be my last. Again, huge thanks!
I literally kissed a planet doing that trick... but overall 10/10!
Can you explain or point me to that slingshot you're talking about?
I only used delivery missions FROM feds... thank you commander !
just did this exact grind a few weeks ago to get the cutter, and then head to the new Boronn to make a space cheddar
You must be rich at this point then Commander! =)
Up to Count following this method. Thanks for the guide.
The Empire Grind is way faster than the Federal one when you do the donation method.
Keep up the great work.
just reached Duke rank thanks to this vid! gotta grind for the money now lol
Do you keep doing rep missions even though you are ally with each of the factions in the systems shown here? Do the rep missions count toward the factions or Imperial once you are ally with the factions?
Awesome. It was aggravating doing assassinations and courier missions in other areas.
Supercruise, by accident i found that if you are either going a little faster than 2c, or if you lock to the target just before 3s it will actually drop you within docking request range, usually just 3km i dont have this down as a science just yet and i've actually passed through a few stations and emerged with the station behind me(but still within docking range)
been playing since the beginning and I got my corvette this year ;) not been into grind after grinding the cutter which is awesome
if the planetary mission is for the same settlement it works out. the mission data point will reset after 2 min no logout and in stuff. scan it 20 times tour all set deliver, i think it was HIP 68065 near ceos.
Sothis and Ceos don't work any more as there is only one Federation faction there now. Chakpa and Ochosi might work if the faction states are right. Otherwise just find a system with 3+ Federation factions in them and just keep running any missions that offer 4 or 5 rep.
i did the corvette grind and it took me two weeks of constant grinding to do it so hopefully for the cutter it will take me a few hours or days.
You can easily win the interdiction mini game, it isn't that hard. I took about 7 hours for imperial and 10 hours for federation ranks.
Canopus-Exphiay is the best way to grind Fed rank in my opinion.
Same
Oh man this is so helpful, how am i only now seeing this video
As always Great guide Hawkes, don't know how you do it buddy.
If there are damaged stations about (which I think there is in Imperial space right now), passenger rescue missions grind rank even faster.
In a Python fitted to carry 96 passengers, three runs allowed me to jump two ranks in no time.
I’m watching this while in my corvette. With my cutter in the hanger. Why am I watching it? Cause it’s hawkes!
You are the man!
I just got my cutter, and am hesitant on the corvette. Is it worth it?
At first, all three destinations were filling me up completely on missions but now none of the three areas are giving me any carrier missions, all 3 systems are in boom
I guess they nerfed something, but there's no way you can grind federal rep from zero to corvette in 7 hours, i've been following this guide to the letter and spent over 2 days grinding, still no federal corvette, also there are no engineering resources available as rewards.
Got it in 8 hours
I dont remember working this hard to get my fed rank. All I did was delivery missions from what I remember and this was probably in 2015
No way this is possible in 7 hours even if you are getting 20 missions per run. I'm doing it now and it sis taking longer than 7 hours. But I guess he's got to lie about the time for the views.
@@TWIGGSTO Look at the upload date smart boy probably this has been patched to the heavens.
Could you explain how to see if it 'ends with Federal agent'? I see no hint anywhere in the mission text on whether it's turned in on Federation rep or not.
"Mobile Death Star" omg I lolled so hard 😂 epic
@@rmimpact it was mostly luck with missions.
Great guide, thanks man!
I was literally in Sothis, Ceos, and Robigo doing passenger mnissions for cash. Then I went back to the bubble to do rank griding. Didn't realize I now have to go back 250 LY to do your guide :(.
Just got the clipper today now im working on the cutter then the corvette
Im not trying to insult you but you sound like frank from raising hope. Its why i subbed
Started my Federal rank grind yesterday taking a break from the LTD mining..
Super helpful that i've got a Cutter to do it.
Hey man, Velinski is under lockdown right now, didn't know until i arrived. What do you recommend?
Very much appreciate your video - thank you
Thanks for this update. It's so painful to try to figure this out on your own!
