We are a couple that are affected and this is why we are not happy.
We are experienced Carnival cruisers and have done about 30 B2B with several including the Naming Ceremonies.
Port Canaveral , Galveston, New York, New Orleans US Customs Port Authorities allowed B2B guests with Naming Ceremonies happening to simply walk off, get cleared by Customs and get right back on the ship like a typical B2B.
We always get the same cabin for both sailings , so we do not have to pack up.
However Carnival is saying Miami Customs said NO.
And I am actually ok with that except, Miami Customs told Carnival absolutely not
    SIX MONTHS AGO!
Carnival’s error was not notifying the 300 B2B and letting them know.
Personally, we would have cancelled the 2nd cruise and booked a Virgin cruise we have been wanting to try or moved to the Carnival Sunrise that we have not sailed on yet for a fraction of the price .
But we did not make that choice originally because we are away from home for a month and I have 6 pieces of luggage .
I did not want to pack it up, haul it to a hotel, spend the night, haul 6 pieces of luggage back to the terminal and go through the check in process again and unpack for a 6 day cruise.
Also, this would have given people who are willing to keep the 2nd cruise the opportunity to book hotels ( use points - which is difficult to do last minute ) and make transportation arrangements ( especially is they are in a scooter - which a lot of our guests are). If you have a scooter, you do not just walk out and hail a taxi.
And then there is the gnawing feeling of WHY we were not informed . Was it sheer Carnival incompetence or did they not want 300 people cancelling the 2nd cruise?
This is why the “hey we want you to come to the Naming Ceremony for 5 hours “ is to me insulting .
We were not invited because we are special to Carnival.
We were invited because Carnival’s incompetence is going to cost us $100’s of unexpected costs and they want to give us a cookie !
We declined the Naming Ceremony invitation.

Even though they might have to disembark for a few hours… It should not be overnight. Those rooms could be cleaned first possibly so other people could get back on… Or have the people just spend the time in a common area until their new rooms are clean

That is how they do it, b2b passengers are dedicated to a meeting point, wait to be escorted to customs then back on board. Hang out once again with a drink, get your picture taken and off you go! The people doing the complaining here are not on a b2b cruise. The ship docks in Miami, spends the balance of that day tied up and does not leave until the next day. These winers are looking for a free nights accommodation and free meals. When booked it was not booked b2b but 2 totally separate cruises with no connection. I can understand how someone would prefer to leave their 6 bags of luggage on board so they won’t have to drag it around but then I wonder what!? 6 suitcases! you have to learn to pack lighter, wow!

@@TripReviews no, it was quite odd. we received a letter 2 days before disembarkation notifying us that we didn’t have to do anything! we could stay on the Discovery but if we got off we would go through Customs at that time. otherwise, we’d visit them when we finished our cruise a week later. we took advantage of the empty lido deck hot tub and had a nice walk around the empty perimeter.
last week in the middle of a California Coastal aboard the Royal we were notified that all passengers would get off the next morning in San Diego, by 9:30AM, go through Customs and when EVERYONE had seen an agent then we could all get back on. if you wanted to leave of course you were free to go but if you didn’t want to leave yet, or leave at all, you had to wait. and so about 1000 passengers waited until 10:30 to get back on. 2 people aboard held us up for an extra hour until located and escorted off. hot beverages and pastries were available. sadly the disembarkation was staggered so some folks waited from 7:30! it wasn’t fun.

When vista came over years ago when we docked in New York there was a 3 day gap to the first sailing. The b2b people were allowed to use it as their hotel. Only about 30 or so of us. So we stayed on the ship while docked for 3 days. It was nice not having to worry about a hotel. We were treated very well with special events planned. So this is the first time I’ve ever heard of them making you get off.

Apparently some people assumed they’d be allowed to spend a night on a cruise ship they didn’t book, which seems odd. But that’s on them. Right? They didn’t book that night or pay for it, so what’s the issue?

That’s terrible. In my opinion since Carnival is requiring people to disembark the ship, Carnival should be required to pay for the hotel stay. Ummmm, that’s common sense. Cruise ends on one day and next cruise is the next day. That means you have to leave the ship. It’s technically not a back to back. A back 2 back, by definition, is when you dock, disembark,-and embark all in the same day. There are things that the ship has to do once is docks. Hence the day in between. If you assumed, thats on you. Maybe you should of inquired. Check the hotel airports, they offer free shuttles to and from the port

It sounds like that they are not being fair to the back to back cruisers. There should be a better transition for them. Either give them a voucher of some kind for an overlay or let them stay on the ship until there rooms are ready. I’ve never done a back to back so I’m not sure what can be done out of fairness.

    • @jahbern
      @jahbern Год назад

If this were a back to back it would make sense. But this isn’t. A back to back is two cruises that return and then depart on the same day. These people booked two totally separate cruises with a day in between. Would you assume you’d just be allowed to hang out on the cruise in between two separate sailings? I wouldn’t. And I don’t recommend trying it 😂

But…it’s not a back to back cruise if they done disembark/embark on the same day. Right? I’ve never heard of a cruise line allowing you to stay onboard for free, but I guess it could happen. I just wouldn’t assume that, ever, under any circumstances. If you booked a hotel for 2 nights and then skipped a night and booked it for three more, would you expect to be allowed to stay at the hotel for the in-between night? That just seems like a strange assumption. But if Carnival published guidance saying passengers could stay on board for free - in that case wouldn’t carnival reimburse people? Or at the very least, travel insurance. Something’s off here.

My dad and I love cruises. We historically chose ships other than ccl, but the other day there was yet another story describing fist fights on carnival. My father in jest asked if we should try CCL to to witness some of different kind of cruising and the shenanigans in contrast of the rather boring cruises we've most recently experienced on other ships. My question is....are fights on ccl that common? Does the originating departure port have a large influence on the potential of a circus (violent) atmosphere ? Serious question btw. 🤔

While I’ve been on cruises that you needed you disembark for a full day we’ve been offered tours for that day. In several cases it was because of Noro!
The only time I saw folks required to get off overnight was when we actually arrived the day before the next cruise was to sail. Yes, this happened because of Ian. Our 4 day cruise was extended 2 days and the 3 day that followed ours was cancelled thus leaving 1 day that wasn’t a cruise day until the next embarkation.
On transatlantic sailings into Miami, the rules are at best wonky: but there’s usually not an overnight involved. Getting through customer, immigrations etc with a ship that’s just arrived has all sorts of hurdles.
Hoping you get better info soon.

As someone who was a self admitted Disney Freak I only sailed on Disney from 2016 until the shut down spending around 20 nights a year at sea. Then Disney pulled it's little stunt of catering the the shareholders and board of directors instead of the fans and priced gouged the day lights out of us souring my feelings for Disney Travel. If you need to for your RUclips business (and lord knows there are a whole lot of brainwashed Disney Fans who ignore all the nonsense who will drive up your views with a title like "First Time on A Disney Cruise, Was it Worth It?") go ahead and do it just to get it out of the way... as a business with a budget though.... unless you can write off the cost... the dollar value is not there for a Disney cruise. This is from a former die hard Disney Fan who created a facegroup page devoted to recipes that morphed into recipes and news... now I almost never post there I am so jaded.
