    It’s hard not to love a plant with glossy eye-catching foliage & a stunning form; oh yes it is. I’ve grown plenty of the schefflera plants for years (there are quite a few of them on the market now) but this is my favorite. I want to share these Schefflera Amate care & growing tips so your home can have some wild and wonderful tropical vibes.
    Most houseplants are native to the tropics or subtropics & the Amate is no different. What sets it apart and kicks it up a notch is the abundance of large leaves. I find this plant, commonly called an Umbrella Tree, easy to care for (even here in the Arizona desert where I live) & I think you will too.

    I've had one of these for a couple years, rescued it from a bar! I grow it indoors because I live in Chicago. When I got it, it was a very sad lil thing and is now it's over 4ft tall! one of my favorite plants, thanks Nel!

    I love schefflera as they make beautiful hedges or trees. And the flowers are gorgeous. Unfortunately as I am in south Louisiana they rarely reach more than 6 feet tall due to freezing temperatures in winter. I’ve noticed they look good and green until about 25 or 26 degrees F. And they’re root hardy to about 19 F. I’ve always had schefflera around, whether in the landscape or in my house growing up so it’s a bit of a nostalgic feeling seeing one.

      Hi - I used to live in Santa Barbara CA where Scheffleras grow outdoors. The Tupids would reach 20" tall. And yes, the flowers are gorgeous. Nell

    I've had this plant for over 15 years inside my home in Tennessee and it is about 7 feet tall, just one long stalk. The leaves occasionally fall from the bottom leaving just the top covered. It has sat in the same window getting plenty of light. What do I do with this plant, the top is pretty the bottom half is not. I hate to cut it back it would only be a stalk (stick in the mud -lol). I'm not sure it would grow back and the half I cut off could I put it in water to get it to root to plant again.

      The only way to get a plant to grow more branches is to cut it. Start small don't cut the whole top off, cut back to a node with a leaf. As it starts to branch you and begin trimming those branches to create more splits and branching. And yes you can propagate this plant in water or soil.

    Hello, I like your videos I live in Phoenix, I bought 2 Schefflera Amate. However where I bought them from soaked the soil with water. I’m afraid it will get root rot. Ive had it for about 2 weeks. It’s winter now, would it be ok to transplant it into a dryer soil? Thanks 😊

    • @rosesparks5148
      @rosesparks5148 3 года назад

      Yeah totally. Letting it sit in cold soggy soil for too long is a sure way to get root rot.

    Do you think cactus and palm soil would work with this beautiful plant? I’ve had mine for a few years and I think I’ve over water it recently because it has a couple leaves that are soggy and a few that are getting lighter in color.

      Palm soil with some compost mixed in will be fine.
