At first, I thought I couldn't watch a 50-minute video about a plant I just wanted a bit of information on. Turns out, I watched the whole video and really appreciated it!
I just "rescued" an umbrella plant and this video has been the most helpful I have seen so far. I have never had one before and needed a broad spectrum video, and this was perfect. Am definitely following the channel noe, thanks guys! 😊
For anyone with hard water, dusting with a brush might be a better option than showering the plant. As the water evaporates, dissolved solids will be left behind that leave a chalky layer or residue on the leaves. Thanks for the video.
Repotted my Schefflera 6 weeks ago. The soil mix I added with the repotting (into the next size up pot) is still wet after 45 days! Thanks to this channel, I know that I can replace that poorly draining newly added soil with pumice and avoid this overly wet situation for the roots now and in the future. I might’ve lost this beautiful 4 foot tall tree without his advice. Thank you! This is a beautiful large plant that feels like a member of the family - would have hated losing it!
I have watched you & your team for a couple of years. Honestly, I have watched you many times during this year just for your voice and impressive body of knowledge. Intelligence soothes me. This particular video inspired me to finally leave you a note. My Schefflera, sitting here with me is about to have a spectacular life! Thank you. Thank you for sharing your life's work with us & Thank you for your work particularly this year. I hope you and yours are healthy and continue to thrive💪 🌎 Sincerely, -L⚘
Very interesting to know that this plant apparently has a pest problem. I legit have had this plant in my house for 20 years, it's HUGE lol. My mom bought it for me for 50 cents at the grocery store 20 years ago, and this plant has had zero pests. I mean, if it has had any, we would never know because it has flourished. Thank you for this video because for years I never knew what type of plant we had
this was very helpful. thanks a lot. I was very hesitant in cutting back my Schefflera, but it became quite tall and can't stand on its own anymore. So I guess it's about time. fingers crossed it goes well :)
THANKS SO MUCH FOR THIS. I just bougt Schefflera today ( I just recently bought my first plant whatsoever) and im learning how to take care of them. It would have been better to watch this video before but im so happy to find this channel!! I love it when I find precise and detailed information on what im looking for so Im gonna keep on watching.
I have them outside. Full sun for at least 6 hours. I love them. In the philippines, we call them 5 fingers but mine normally have 7 or 8. So fast grower, i cant keep up upotting them, so i simply cut some and stick them onto soil. Now i have 6 large pots of them
Your videos are just amazing. The quality of information is far beyond other plant RUclipsrs! Thank you so much for sharing. I have both an abricola and amate, and would love to learn the differences between the two! I would also love to see any videos on your business. So fascinating!
Thank you, great video! I have started to care for one that was my in-laws. It looks even worse than the plant at 31:30. My mother in law fell Ill and the plant went a couple months indoors with no water! The pot had no holes so that could be why it survived? My father in law had been caring for it for 40 years, and I was told it never actually looked very good. In fact, when I saw a healthy one for the first time, I had no idea it was the same plant. In fact, bless his heart, he told me it was a fig...! I sent a picture to an office here and they said it was a "very sick" arbicola. Oops! I've had it for almost 3 months. I've trimmed off all the dead stuff. There was so much! I've put holes in the pot and am purchasing perculite. What acidity does the plant like? Once I fix the basics like water, soil, and fertilizer, do you have any advice for nursing it back from the brink? Thank you!
Today is purchased my 1st Schefflera plant ,and immediately saw ur video to how to take care of this plant .Your guidance is soooo valuable to me ,thanks alot .My good wishes for u n ur lovely family..God bless you
merci ! 50 minutes vidéo ! I can now try to save the plant my sister gave me. if the plant dies, there will be a price on my head! 😂 so, basically you helped save 2 lives 🙏
Another great video! I have 2 Scheffleras that are probably 20 years old. Didn’t know they could bloom. That would be a nice surprise, but I won’t hold my breath! Thanks for great info!
Mine are 20 y/o this year , but are outdoor in the Spring / Summer & inside from late Oct-Nov & I will likely put them out in a week or 2 ( early April ) , here in N Ga USA . Congratz on yr old Sheffs
I need care on the big leave one you spoke of in the beginning... I was gifted a very very old one and I don't want to mess it up. Its beautiful 🪴 thank you for all of your content 🌱🌿🌱
I've had a Nora for three years. It's such an easy plant to take care of. It grows leaves all year long (although it grows the most in summer). I never seen ONE leaf fall off. its very leafy, it has one thick stem. About 40cm tall
Sir, really value your scientific approach. Yours is the go-to channel when I look for tips to take care of my city jungle at home. My sincere gratitude to your channel.
I'm only about 9 minutes in. I'm loving this. Thanks so much. I have to figure out what to do with my almost 12 ft tall plant that I let get way too leggy I guess and I have to figure out how to trim it back but I wanted to let you know. Mine flowers all the time and I have tons of berries to propagate
I purchased my Princess at Home Depot. She looked like she was on the brink of death. I have very little knowledge on plant care. She has grown so much. I have another plant by cutting the stem from my original plant. Now , I may have a third plant. She is growing a lot. I need more knowledge on how to care for her. Thank you for the tips.
Thank you for the experience of this plant,I just bought this plant today I hope this plant will stay with me for the long time.Thank you so much for your experience.
Very detailed, informative and well-presented videos you have on your channel. The way you put things forth for novices and experts alike makes any plant enthusiast like me to subscribe to your channel. I have two of these schefflera varieties-one regular all green and one richly variegated. Thank you so much for the information and the care tips. Hope to be in touch with you often. Love from Nepal.
Swedish PLANT GUYS you are AMAZING 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙏🏽✨✨✨✨ Thank you for sharing such gentle and passionate info on your plant journey. I would love to go to some plant events or plant swaps.
I learned so much about this plant. I don't have one because I live in a pretty dry area but now I think maybe it can survive here with a little extra effort. The various examples , such as the root-bound plant and the one needing water, were very helpful.
I recently bought the varigated schefflera 2-3 weeks ago.( It is a highly varigated one. ) It's tall, full and in a 6 inch pot. When I brought it home I sprayed it down with neem oil, just like I do with all my new plants. I placed the plant in front of a northeastern window. Gets an hour or so of morning direct sunlight, on part of it. I have turned the plant a couple of times to ensure even growth. I keep testing the soils moisture off and on, with my meter. It had just been watered when I bought it. The soil isn't even reading a moist measurement yet. The other day I noticed some lower leaves had dark brown dry tips. When I touched the leaves, they fell off. One of the lower stems fell off as well the next day when I touched it. Today I noticed the small new growth on top was wilting. I checked the soil moisture again. This time I used both my meters. Both gave the same measurement. I checked for pests and didn't see any. Took it out of the pot, soil smelled normal and roots looked good. So I repotted it in an 8 inch pot with some dry cactus soil, to help absorb some of that excess moisture. Other than that, IDK what to do for it. Any suggestions on how to help the plant and what would be causing this?
The same thing happened to mine when I brought it home. These are VERY delicate plants. I don't think they like the moving from one place to another (store to your home). Mine had a bunch of leaves & stems fall off. I made sure it was NOT standing in any water in the bottom "drip" pot. But now mine is thriving! Its getting big! Dark shiny leaves. Lots of umbrellas..but it took awhile to revover from the move.
I bought a schefflera before seeing this video However I can verify that most of the conditions at home are perfect in accordance with your recommendations in the tutorial I just wish to get it develop a lot of the multy green with lemon coloured leaves as they are quite few on the level below the top level leaves on one if the stems
Thanks for the detailed information! I just received one today that I ordered online, and I noticed the leaves are quite upright, like closed hands, not as ‘laying flat’ as yours or others that I see from the internet. Could you please possibly diagnose the problem? The leaves are standing but not lying relax. I hope I explained what it means 😂😂 visually. They now act like prayer plants at night. Thank you!!
This is what a video on plants should be like!!! Great presentation, information and teaching skiills! Congratulations and good luck! Please continue sharing your videos...Mily from Florida
I have a huge tree stem. It's five feet tall. I topped it and started a new tree. It's the giant leafed umbrella. Now the trunk is wiggled, not nice. It's starting to grow again both from the top, as well as the lower section. I'd like to have a straight trunk, not sure if I can cut the actual trunk at one and half inch thickness and root it. I removed all leaves to see if it would start to branch. It's forming nodules or new growth, as bumps, along the top stem. I did not know it could survive low temps.
Good video. I have Schefflera arboricola trinette, Schefflera elegantissima, Schefflera amante Alpine jr., and a varigated Schefflera elegantissima in my garden. They are slow growing shurbs and trees.
Beautiful plant. I'll pass on purchasing lol...I live in NY where our winters are longer than our summers. Wouldn't make any sense to go through the drama lol
I would love to see a video about the Schefflera Amate. I got one from my grandmother and it has shown amazing growth (10 inches in 6 months) but I want to know how to propagate it. Any quick suggestions?
Question: I have a scheflerra actinofolia I've had for about 5-6 years first four years or so it grew beautifully. But the last year or so all of the new leaves don't spread out like fans as they normally would. They come out folded back on their stems and stay that way. What is wrong with it and can I remedy the problem?
My umbrella plant is suffering right now. I moved house and she was due for a repott due to size and she is behaving like she is super dehydrated. I am misting her and keep her in my bathroom when I shower to encourage humidity. I hope I can get her back to normal as her leaves are brown and droopy like the dehydrated one in the video. I have high hopes and high anxiety lol wish me luck
Thanks for the information on arbor icons plants(I have one). Also please give information on the care of china doll plants. I have purchase this plant several times. HELP!!!!
Hi I really enjoy listening to your videos. Fantastic and so much detail and so beautifully explained . I would like some advice please. I had a gorgeous Schefflera Actinophylla . It’s been growing beautifully indoors for around a year now. Then we had hot weather and I decided to put it outside for sun and fresh air . It was ok at first but a few weeks in. It’s got horrible discoloured leaves. Some the then have white shady bits some of them bits of brown with some still perfect . I cleaned every leaf with warm water, there are no visible insects . Should I cut it all back and let it start again? I feel so disappointed. Any advice would be greatly appreciated . Thank you
I’ve had mine for about 6 months. It had 3 individual stems in one pot. I lost one to rot and the other one is the tallest and the smallest. I know they aren’t supposed to get giant but it’s very leggy and doesn’t seem to have much growth. And what growth for come out it’s 50/50 chance it survives also the leaf drop ont his plant is insane. If you even move the plant soemtiems you can lose a few leaves. Very pretty but not my favorite.
Wow, this is a very informative and well taught video about schefflera that I have have found out there. It seems long at the first sight, but it is all worth to listen to it all!!! Thank you so much!!
I have a variegated umbrella tree, it’s about 10 years old, and I have never trimmed it. It’s healthy and happy, but it’s just one single 1.5 metre trunk with leaves. I want to cut it in half...but my question is, if I cut the tree bark area from this plant will it still propagate and produce new foliage? Or do I only cut it at the green soft areas?
In the case of Schleffera- the growth form is a single stem and a cut will produce new growth from the closest lateral node. The main shoot will stop producing, resulting in a new direction of growth and changed shape. Yes, new foliage can grow from woody plant tissues.
Fantastic video, thank you! This is one of my favorite houseplants! Mine started to have problems about a month ago - never experienced problems with these plants before.. Yellow veining, and some leaves have a slightly flushed out appearance. Even though I don't over-water, I thought maybe it's root-rot and let the plant dry - next, dry spots appeared in some leaves.. Maybe this came from the drying. Now I'm thinking the yellow veining was caused by lack of fertilizer. Have checked for pests and couldn't find any. Very baffling. But anyway, THANK YOU for this fantastic video!! Have added it to my Favorites and subscribed to your channel now. :)
If the plant is very thin leggy and lays over due to no care, does it need to be tied up to poles, or would that even help it get stronger and grow upward?
I've got 2 of these that were in the same pot when I got them. I left them to do their thing for about a month until they started looking grumpy and pale. I separated them and recall they didn't have much roots at all. A year later and they've hardly grown and seen today that the root system in tiny. I'm talking no more than a 4 inch root ball in diameter. I did transfer them today with another tropical that likes water, so u hope ull see some changes. I'll attempt to add a picture. Should I be worried about the small amount of roots? Will the plants ever grow the way it should?
Thanks for your video, when you have multiple starter (3 my case) Should we braided them between them or is it done by itself (considering the fact that it's already 40cm tall and already braided )
When are you all going to do a calathea care video? Are you avoiding this type of plant purposefully? I’m ready to give up having one during the winter in the midwest (Chicago area) part of 🇺🇸
At first, I thought I couldn't watch a 50-minute video about a plant I just wanted a bit of information on. Turns out, I watched the whole video and really appreciated it!
My schefflera blooms every year, now it has fruit. Yes! It is about 20 years old
it grows fruit?
Mine too. It is 35 years old. Too bad the fruit is not edible.
I didn’t know they had fruit , how did you get it so tall?
❤
That is the biggest root bound ball of roots I've ever seen!!! 😂😂😂 Id break that pot and repot, it'll explode with new growth 💚
I just "rescued" an umbrella plant and this video has been the most helpful I have seen so far. I have never had one before and needed a broad spectrum video, and this was perfect. Am definitely following the channel noe, thanks guys! 😊

Such great information but nothing on propagation. I will look for that!
I would love to see a video about the Schefflera Amate. I got one from my grandmother and it has shown amazing growth (10 inches in 6 months) but I want to know how to propagate it. Any quick suggestions?
I live in South Wales, UK and mine has been outside this summer! The variegation has exploded and the leaves are more gold than green!
Can you also make a video of pachira aquatica? Is it similar in its care? Esp in taking care of it when its attacked by pests?
Question: I have a scheflerra actinofolia I've had for about 5-6 years first four years or so it grew beautifully. But the last year or so all of the new leaves don't spread out like fans as they normally would. They come out folded back on their stems and stay that way. How to you make it groe like the tree in the right
You say to wash dust off in the shower, would hard water be a problem? I always use rain water to water and mist
my plants
How is your plant now, was it the fertilizer being the problem?
Wouldn't showering it just change the problem of dust to now Kalk on the leaves?
Hello. I love your videos , very informative , I have a question , can i grow my Calatheas in water? thank you
answer ? ????
Great video, thank you so much
Thanks❤
If the plant is very thin leggy and lays over due to no care, does it need to be tied up to poles, or would that even help it get stronger and grow upward?
Plus, the leaves have a sticky sap like is this normal?
I've got 2 of these that were in the same pot when I got them. I left them to do their thing for about a month until they started looking grumpy and pale. I separated them and recall they didn't have much roots at all. A year later and they've hardly grown and seen today that the root system in tiny. I'm talking no more than a 4 inch root ball in diameter. I did transfer them today with another tropical that likes water, so u hope ull see some changes. I'll attempt to add a picture.
Should I be worried about the small amount of roots? Will the plants ever grow the way it should?
Does the info on cutting between nodes goes for all plants?
Thanks for your video, when you have multiple starter (3 my case) Should we braided them between them or is it done by itself (considering the fact that it's already 40cm tall and already braided )
Brilliant, as always. What water would you recommend for watering?
I think it is easy to care for when you know what you are doing........:) It sounds complex.......:)
When are you all going to do a calathea care video? Are you avoiding this type of plant purposefully? I’m ready to give up having one during the winter in the midwest (Chicago area) part of 🇺🇸
He has a calathea video.
