I do mostly like this review, but I do disagree with Eber about the design. Especially compared to the 2022 model, which puts the LEGION branding even more obnoxiously on the top. And the Legion 5 P (as it was called before 2021 and also wasn't originally sold in most countries) always looked a bit more gamer-focused than the Legion 5 & Legion 7. My main concerns include that the hinge, while obviously better than the 2020 Legion 7 and earlier, which seemed to have faulty hinge designs but fixed starting in 2021, doesn't fold 180 degrees back like on the Legion 7 or even the Legion 5. The other (minor) complaint is that the laptop tops out at an RTX 3070; while it is full-powered, I do video-edit sometimes on my laptop, and 8 GB of vRAM on my current Windows laptop just isn't cutting it. I am glad that unlike my current laptop, the Legions all have a MUX switch for gaming. I'd take having to reboot to switch over the issues right now with Advanced Optimus (there are several, include screen brightness being significantly lower in hybrid mode while the dGPU is active). And that 16:10 2560x1600 screen is gorgeous! Sure, it could have used a bit more color space coverage, but for most gamers, 100% sRGB, 165 hz refresh rate, higher than 1440p resolution and the fast response times are good enough. And while I can see that some people would be bothered by the 16:10 aspect ratio for gaming or watching videos, I'd take it over having it wasted on screen bezels. Honestly, I don't see any reason at the moment to get the 2022 Legion models, given that only the 2022 Intel Legion 5i Pro is available (and is currently out of stock), and at a ridiculous price of 1,800 USD for an RTX 3050 Ti. Honestly, for $1,800, I'd get a 2021 AMD Legion 5 Pro with AMD Ryzen 5800H, RTX 3070 (full-powered), 16 GB of the x16 RAM (and just upgrade it myself, given how much cheaper DDR4 RAM is compared to DDR5), and a 2 TB SSD with an open second slot for the future. You'll likely still be able to run most games at 1440p or 1200p with great graphics quality and for much cheaper too. Not to mention that the while the laptops with Intel 12th gen CPU do get big performance boosts over AMD Ryzen 5000/6000 and Intel 11th gen, they also get significantly worse battery life to the point of being mostly desktop replacements.
Got my L5P, the 5600H + 3060 model, last week. Performance is great and the screen, mine needed some color calibration, is the best PC screen I've ever used. Games run great, but more demanding titles require me to lower the resolution to 1920 x 1200 which still looks really good on the 16 inch screen.
Are you having the RAM performance issue that Jarrod reported in his Lenovo Legion 5 Pro/Lenovo Legion 7 previews? Maybe a 3rd party RAM kit could allow this thing to top the charts ;)
Thanks for another great review. Just one thing wanted to point out here, and actually all of your laptop reviews, is the max memory capacity. For example, you mentioned 32gb max, which is just the max ram Lenovo sells this model with, not the actual maximum ram capacity, which is 64gb for all 4000 and 5000 series Ryzen processors. You can put two 32gb modules to run it at 64gb and lot of folks are running the last year's Legion 5 with 64gb memory.
It’s an awesome laptop just wish the Y logo was smaller and with the light on that brings the fact that it’s overly big to my attention even more. I would probably always keep it off, unless I’m showing off.
I compared it to my 3700x rtx 2080 desktop (not ti or super) and in shadows of the tomb raider the performance was very close. High settings 1440p ultra wide, 87fps (rtx 2080) 85fps (legion 5 pro rtx 3070) But I've undervolted my rtx 2080 cause it has shit cooling.
by then usb4 will be standardized which will be nice perhaps they will further e-gpu potential and compatibility with usb4 we can only hope. Then we can get a legion 7 or legion 5 slim with an AMD apu that has RDNA2 onboard with a 4k oled as an option....and thus the e-gpu.
Very excited to see this laptop vs the 3080 model. This might be my purchase. I am thrilled they resolved the battery drain of the Corsair iCue...i much prefer fewer RGB choices than the problems of the last model due to that software.
Thanks a lot for making this simple to the point video; having watched so many videos the last few days, I actually was blown away by the tdp and gpu freq graphs, this is simply what I wanted from all the videos, but youtubers keep making game play and hundreds of benchmark videos, which are really secondary to this. Since I intend to use it for my work, the only things I care about are the specs, voltage, freq and overall feel. I wish it was actually available in India despite the release date being last month :P
With often deals/coupons, it can be bought for an attractive price. With coupons you can get the R7+3070 variant for around $1450 (at least in where I live)
Its epic , theres also another thing , the ram sticks that come with it are not that great , just change them with crucial and you will see a real boost in performance. up to 20% in performance
I bought a Legion 5 with RTX 2060 in January, and I'm very happy so far. 115W GPU and a 144Hz, 100% sRGB screen all for €1,200 - pretty amazing compared to Omens, TUFs, and MSIs of that generation
@@cybercery5271 That was me for 2 years 😓 finally saved enough money to get a 3060 laptop. But no laptop fucking available. I AM ANGRY. No legion, No omen, No Alienware, No Zephyrus G15 nothing launched here. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Thank you for the thorough review. I'm very tempted by that panel... 16:10 QHD will be great for my spreadsheet work, and gaming play. Quite an upgrade from my 2013 Ivybridge Lenovo with Nvidia 660M GPU, which is what I'm watching and typing on now. I feel Lenovo is a quality brand.
I have a laptop from 2013 too xD Asus G75VX with Nvidia 670MX, which is what I'm watching and typing on now. This lenovo looks incredible, although I'll miss the 17,3" display and the much better cooling on my current laptop. Over 90 degrees on the processor is too too much.
Bought mine Legion 5 PRO 3070 yesterday and really considering to return it already due to very poor battery life. From 100% charge battery it went to 0% in 3 hours while doing nothing but being mostly idle with occasional Google chrome tab being updated on Hybrid mode with 60% brightness. I am very disappointed by this. I mean 3 hours of battery life while doing nothing is ridiculous to me. As I look into the issue it seems like lots of other people are facing the same issue with this laptop. Right now I wish I knew that battery would be this bad before the purchase. Thinking about trying ASUS G15 Zephyrus instead.
From my research its likely 5 hours max with all on low. going down to 3 hours would be expected over time. they arent meant for battery life period. buy a model that is if u need 5 hours min.
Absolutely a perfect machine, only issue I've heard is that the keyboard lighting customizations are limited, slow and choppy. Definitely getting this.
Under $1500 which gaming machine is best please suggest me 🙏🏻 I'm confusion about legion 5 pro, ROG Zephyrus G 15. Is there is any other laptop which is best under $1500 plz suggest me ❤❤
I am looking forward in seeing the h2h comparison vs the incoming Asus ROG Zephyrus M16 which seems like its only 16:10 ratio QHD gaming laptop competitor
Anybody that got their 5 Pro, did any of you have problems with the battery draining while charging while gaming on high settings? Saw that the Omen 15z had the problem, so I might cancel the order and switch if it's the case
Great overview, thank you 😊. At this point in the game (as well as from last year), Lenovo should have worked out their hinge issues long ago. Fujitsu have built single hinged notebooks since 2004 with no issues at all. So, what's Lenovo's excuse? Ravi Peiris M.D.
So true. I have a Fujitsu laptop/tablet with a single swiveling hinge that you can rotate 180 and lay flat and it is built like a tank. A shame these other laptop manufacturers can't even come close when it comes to robust hinges.
It's actually replacing the Legion 5P from last year. That model didn't launch worldwide. It was basically a Legion 5 with the "gamery Y" logo, but with higher TDP GPU; 115 Watt 2060 instead of the 85 watt 2060 that the Legion 5 had.
I have this one since two months and I 100% agree with everything you said, especially the "Y" design. I do absolutely love the screen too. Really good work on this review! Maybe you could have mentioned that NVENC isn't working (can't record with Geforce Expierience f.e.) when hybrid mode is disabled(!). Other than that, I love this Notebook.
I disagree with Eber about the design. Especially compared to the 2022 model, which puts the LEGION branding even more obnoxiously on the top. And this laptop was originally called the Lenovo Legion 5 P, which actually looked even more gamery and before 2021, wasn't sold in many countries. If they just had the RTX 3080 and the screen folded all the way back like on the Legion 5 and Legion 7, I would have bought the 5 Pro instead... Oh well, apart from iQUE, I do prefer the Legion 7...
why and since when it starts at 1599$ it was starting at 999$ the 999$ mark for the legion 5 pro would be perfect because the pro gets a body upgrade and screen upgrade.. thats it. normal legion 5 799$ staring mark would be great aswell
I think when they stated that the base model will be at 999$ they were thinking about the model with the RTX 3050 that is about to release, not the model with the RTX 3060.
My old GE72 7RE Apache Pro of 5 years had the plastic near the hinges broken out of nowhere. Never dropped nor ill-taken care of. It was always in my room without having to close at all. MSI, Gigabyte, and ASUS has some QC issues across the board
Hello. Anyone who using Legion 5 PRO could help to check and advice if you have AMD Radeon Software installed ? I'm using but unable to get installed... Looking for HELP PLEASE !!! Was told by the shop seller that Lenovo has replied saying this model does not comes with Radeon Software Installed, is it TRUE ?
Like you said, it's basically no extra work so you shouldn't have a problem doing the conversation yourself. I do it at work all the time. Barely takes a few seconds.
Out of all the loud gamer logos, Lenovo's bother me the least. They're still *kinda* obnoxious but for the most part they just remind of a flux capacitor or something.
I just purchased this laptop after watching reviews. I must say, I was not disappointed. The quality is very nice, the keyboard is fantastic, and the speed in incredible. However, I have only 1 thing to say, I purchased the samsung Pro 980. And found out after, it only supports Gen 3 PCI. And not Gen 4. But the one just above this laptop is a Gen 4. That is to me just a little cheaping out. It's still fast. But cmon Lenovo. That was cheap.
I wanted to love this laptop. Got one for 1 months but the lid design just isn’t for me. The touchpad is crap, it’s plastic and it’s shifted to where your left palm would normally rest. And I don’t appreciate the numpad. I return mine and change to ROG Strix G15. Eventho the screen is kinda worse (got 1080p 300Hz sub 400 nits 16:9 display) and the performance is worse (barely), but it has better ergonomics, better touchpad that you actually would be able to use, and amazing battery life and speaker. It’s not perfect by any means but I’m satisfied with it.
I hope that dbrand will consider this laptop significant enough to make a skin for it. The laptop is pretty much perfect if we're able to _"de-brand"_ it.
I like the display, but the one thing I'd single out about this laptop is Quiet mode. It allows you to get work done without the ridiculous noise and heat emissions gaming laptops usually suffer from. Really great job by the Lenovo team.

For example, you mentioned 32gb max, which is just the max ram Lenovo sells this model with, not the actual maximum ram capacity, which is 64gb for all 4000 and 5000 series Ryzen processors. You can put two 32gb modules to run it at 64gb and lot of folks are running the last year's Legion 5 with 64gb memory.
my 3070 of my 5 pro hits 210w peak lmao, crazy laptop !
I love your voice , watch your review is kind of enjoyment for me 😄
That shot alone at 7:54 made me decide to buy this laptop
Thanks for the comparisons of the different performance modes, super helpful.
Inches? Pounds? Please mention in standard measurement system as well
It’s an awesome laptop just wish the Y logo was smaller and with the light on that brings the fact that it’s overly big to my attention even more. I would probably always keep it off, unless I’m showing off.
@TomTomTwig they have a standard version without RGB keyboard but with backlight only
Meanwhile the 2022 version for the 5 pro will not have the Y logo but with grey lettering of legion instead.
Got one a few weeks ago. Really happy with it so far!
3070 beats my old 1070 desktop pretty handily.
I compared it to my 3700x rtx 2080 desktop (not ti or super) and in shadows of the tomb raider the performance was very close. High settings 1440p ultra wide, 87fps (rtx 2080) 85fps (legion 5 pro rtx 3070) But I've undervolted my rtx 2080 cause it has shit cooling.
will buy either this or the legion 7 / 7i in 1 or 2 years when the prices are back to normal again
by then usb4 will be standardized which will be nice perhaps they will further e-gpu potential and compatibility with usb4 we can only hope.
For future videos you could put metric and imperial size and weight. It si very usefull for the rest of the world xD
Canada still uses a lot of imperial units day to day
That Y logo definitely looks cool. Absolutely not a downer.
I love the new editing, clean as heck. Keep it up
With often deals/coupons, it can be bought for an attractive price. With coupons you can get the R7+3070 variant for around $1450 (at least in where I live)
Came out in US at 1849 for 32g ram 3070 r7 5800X xD
8:11 that transition is GOLD
Its epic , theres also another thing , the ram sticks that come with it are not that great , just change them with crucial and you will see a real boost in performance. up to 20% in performance
Ram is getting upgraded by Lenovo in July > there were supply issues + the ram in the current model was selected for QHD+ gaming
@@barrierankin2234 Sounds very good so far. But is there a source for that? I plan to buy a Legion 5i Pro in June, hence the question.

I bought a Legion 5 with RTX 2060 in January, and I'm very happy so far. 115W GPU and a 144Hz, 100% sRGB screen all for €1,200 - pretty amazing compared to Omens, TUFs, and MSIs of that generation
had you waited you might have got a 3060 for that price
@@prisai03 And next year you will say this for 4060 ? This waiting game is stupid unless next gen release is under 2-3 months.
@@pratyushsharma6655 the best way of waiting is not having enough money to buy anything
Laptop RTX 3060s have little to no negligible differences compared to the RTX 2060s while costing much more money.
Keys and trackpad looks convenient with the greyhound grey color, a fine notebook review.
Just bought a low spec version of this laptop with an intel i7 11800 and a 3050 for only $850. Insane steal.
Well, you convinced me)) i ordered the beast!
9:00 maximum supported memory is actually 64 GB, Lenovo says 32 GB but that is only their highest configuration.
Thinking about trying ASUS G15 Zephyrus instead.
the same problem with mine. Only 2 hours of battery life doing nothing.
From my research its likely 5 hours max with all on low. going down to 3 hours would be expected over time. they arent meant for battery life period. buy a model that is if u need 5 hours min.
man ur channel has such great vibes...supremely chill and relaxing😎
Surprises me that this 6:07 is considered good for a laptop of this price.

Thanks. This video came to my recommendations right on time.
It's actually replacing the Legion 5P from last year. That model didn't launch worldwide. It was basically a Legion 5 with the "gamery Y" logo, but with higher TDP GPU; 115 Watt 2060 instead of the 85 watt 2060 that the Legion 5 had.
Legion 5 AMD actually already has a 115W 2060.
@@alexclarke6924 I'm aware. But the Intel one didn't. They made it 115 on the 5Pi only. Both 5 and 5P AMD were similarly specced.
I found this laptop on the Lenovo website with the same specs BUT 2TB of storage for $1499!
Is it slower speed storage?

I have this one since two months and I 100% agree with everything you said, especially the "Y" design. I do absolutely love the screen too. Really good work on this review!
Maybe you could have mentioned that NVENC isn't working (can't record with Geforce Expierience f.e.) when hybrid mode is disabled(!). Other than that, I love this Notebook.
Hi. Have you tried travel with this laptop. Is it heavy since weight is one of my concerns. Appreciate your reply.
Oh well, apart from iQUE, I do prefer the Legion 7...
why and since when it starts at 1599$
it was starting at 999$
the 999$ mark for the legion 5 pro would be perfect because the pro gets a body upgrade and screen upgrade.. thats it.
normal legion 5 799$ staring mark would be great aswell
Think the worst gpu option for the pro is the 3060 that’s why
I think when they stated that the base model will be at 999$ they were thinking about the model with the RTX 3050 that is about to release, not the model with the RTX 3060.
I think the 999$ starting price is for the 5600H + RTX3050(Ti) variant, which isn't out yet. It would explain a lot.

I am looking for a laptop for ArchiCAD work, I was looking up to this laptop
Is it good or do you recomend somenthing else?

Just wondering... The 8h battery test was on hybrid mode right?
Of course
The battery life is even better when you switch from 165Hz refresh rate to 60 Hz (about 30% better battery life)
8hr on hybrid mode which gives worse performance and up to 10hour of battery in 60hz mode which is with a keyboard shortcut I don’t remember

Hello.
Anyone who using Legion 5 PRO could help to check and advice if you have AMD Radeon Software installed ?
I'm using but unable to get installed... Looking for HELP PLEASE !!!
Was told by the shop seller that Lenovo has replied saying this model does not comes with Radeon Software Installed, is it TRUE ?
if you're gonna put measurements on screen why only have them in imperial, it's basically no extra work to just put it in metric too
Like you said, it's basically no extra work so you shouldn't have a problem doing the conversation yourself.
Are you still happy with it, I'm looking to buy it aswell
@@meinteybergen4617 i am still very happy with it! It works really really well :-)
How about the black bars when playing games or watching videos, Does it bother you?
Make it an apple 🍏
