We have noir filtered through Johnny Mnemonic, an androgenous Vasquez impersonation from Aliens, almost pitiful callouts to '80s consumer electronics and pop culture, and even a Final Fantasy VII big sword moment. None of it fits into any kind of original aesthetic, character, or narrative vision. The creators are obviously just throwing stuff against the wall and hoping that it sticks.
I don't think I will ever understand this new generation of liking the look of the 80s aesthetic but mixing and mashing it with the modern trends of today when it comes to character design and making women look very masculine. It doesn't look right and heavily clashes, also many women from that period in the 80s did not look like a bald space marine.

I'm ignoring the comments section here very deliberately to offer the following thoughts: 1. I do wonder how ND's very linear design will mesh with a spacefaring game. It might feel too constrained, or too derivitive. We haven't seen any actual gameplay yet, so based purely on what I'm seeing here, I'm guessing the flow will be a bit more Fallen Orderish by way of Guardians of the Galaxy. 2. I actually like the character. We have a lot of visual storytelling in very little time with the newspaper clippings and some of the dynamics between the MC and her bounty handler. Not sure how I feel about the branding being thrown about, but Cowboy Bebop thrived on this sort of thing with old media like Betamax being highly sought after collectibles, so I'll give it the benefit of the doubt. 3. I've wanted a bounty hunting space game with more freedom to take contracts, and if ND takes a more freeform route for the game I'd be on board to try it when it comes to PC.
