I have the 2021 Legion 7 with 5900hx and 3080. Absolutely a beast for a laptop. Still trying to figure out why Nvidia decided to equip a mobile 3080 with 16gb of GDDR6 but not their desktop 3080s though.
The desktop 3080 is based on the GA102 die what has a 384 bit bus, which by default allows either 12 or 24 GB of VRAM. Nvidia disabled 64 bits to reduce VRAM to 10 GB. To get 16 GB of VRAM, they’ll have to cut down the bus down to 256 bit, severely reducing bandwidth. On the other hand, the mobile 3080 uses the same die as the desktop 3070: the GA104, which has a 256 bit bus that allows for 8 GB of 16 GB of VRAM.

I have last years model of Legion 5 Pro, it has the weird three spike light logo on the backside, but the overall design is pretty sleek with the gray on gray color. 16:10 165hz with a 3070 is great.
That weird Y shape logo on the back is suppose to resemble the look of a Roman Legion Helmet. Hence the word "LEGION". Yea it's a great laptop. I have the Legion 5 Pro 3070 too but in white color.
How is it regarding performance, temps, noise and screen? At the moment it's between this and the msi gp66 with 12700h and 3070ti. The only issue is, is that the msi lacks gsync and I'm not sure the 70ti is enough to drive 1440p without the aid of gsync to keeps things smooth at lower framerates. Does the system maintain high frame rates? Have you noticed any thermal throttling?

Done many of my masters assignments on it since the keyboard is comfortable for long hour of typing as well as the screen is large enough to accomodate wide excel sheets. Though there are some drawbacks like the nowadays it seems to throttle often when gaming (maybe dust building uo inside), there's a noticeable crackling sound in my headphones when I plugged it into the laptop though not noticeable when plugging it onto a speaker (fixed this by reducing the wifi signal), and battery isn't that great but still doable.
I have the Legion 5 with a Ryzen 7 4800H and Nvidia 1660TI. I use it as a Linux workstation. I have the 80Whr battery and get around 7 hours on battery when I power down the dGPU.

I just subscribed. I found your videos super helpful and clear in most cases. However... I think in the future... please use a lower third to help identify which laptop is which. there were parts where it was hard to follow which was which. Your hand gestures sometimes pointed to the 5 when you were talking about the pro and visa versa. A lower third helps the audience to identify which laptop is which off the bat with less friction. More visual help the better. thank you!
A lower third is a text graphic that is located near the bottom of the screen to help give some info to describe the scene. Text that appears in the lower third of the screen. You can google the term. Its a fairly common jargon used in video editing.

Just got this Legion 5 like a week ago in darker Storm Grey color and with 12700H/RTX 3060. This is the best looking gaming laptop Ive used, it also has the best build quality and materials. I even prefer the design of it over the 5 Pro (except the side vents and that extra display estate on the bottom). Ive used HP pavilion, Acer Nitro, Asus TUF series and several other non gaming laptops but this feels much higher quality than any of those. Even when Im holding it, feels significantly more dense and pleasant, even tho the bottom panel is plastic, its just some high grade one, feels satisfying. Not to mention all the features it offers and the exceptional amount of ports with vast functionality as well, Im using gaming laptops as the desktop replacements and these ports cleaned up up setup immensely, I got basically no visible cables no thanks to the ports on its back. thank you your Legion 5 review last year was made me purchase the device no regrets .. thanks you
I just last week ordered the Legion 5 Pro 16" Gaming Laptop QHD 165Hz R9-6900HX 16GB RAM 1TB SSD RTX 3070 Ti from the USA Ebay shipping to Canada, and also ordered Fury Impact 32GB ram upgrade from Amazon. I been reviewing gamers/putters for quite a while before committing and this video totally convinced me this was a very good/best choice. Anxiously awaiting my delivery...
Nice video. I’m not much into gaming. But more into photo editing and video(Just an advanced enthusiast). Hope it performs them well. I was looking into MacBook Pro. But the price point and software licence issue is pushing me towards Microsoft.
Quite on time. Can you do a comparison video on this year with the last year in terms of everything for AMD version?
I'm excited to watch your next review. XD
Was really excited for the AMD versions as well. Please do a comparison of 5 pro and 5i pro with their respective specifications.
More visual help the better. thank you!
What's a lower third?
A lower third is a text graphic that is located near the bottom of the screen to help give some info to describe the scene. Text that appears in the lower third of the screen. You can google the term. Its a fairly common jargon used in video editing.
I bought lenovo legion 5i G7 I7-12700H yesterday for 2k dollars . Was this good price?
32 GB RAM
2T MEMORY SSD
Can't wait for the 5 pro review!!!!!! It was my favorite laptop last year but I wanted pcle gen 4 and the last gen of the AMD CPUs didn't support it so I decided to wait a year and I really hope this laptop is everything I hoped it will be 🙏🙏
Just got this Legion 5 like a week ago in darker Storm Grey color and with 12700H/RTX 3060.
I think Im going for Lenovo again for my next gaming laptop.
1 hour of keyboard asmr when?
Getting the 5 in 2 months. Can't wait.
@user-ib3hj2zp5u bruh
I've been fan of Legion series since Y530 but damn, the price hike hit these hard. The cheapest model (RTX 3060) available in Canada is near $2000
2200 eur in the netherlands
It's just under $3k AUD for the 3060 model for me...and that's 10% off.😅
Same price in Indonesia, around $2030 CAD
10:24 a man of culture.
great detailed comparison, appreciated. 300 usd difference for the same specs, though alluminum on pro sounds enticing, in addition to 500 nits
I have recently purchased legion 5 with 5800h 3050 165Hz and 100%srgb............ Works like charm
Happy with my laptop
I think you are from india too. For how much you purchased that laptop and from where ? I'm planning to get that same model too

Got a sh rtx3070/ryzen 5800h Legion 5 for 1200€ and its the best laptop i could have gotten by far. Beautiful 1080p 165hz display, i found it to be a better option compared to the 1440p of the pro version as the hardware might not manage the resolution that well into the future (mine had some scratches but i managed to hide them with some lipstick). The gpu-cpu combo is great and can do max settings in most games easily, works well with a 1440p monitor as well. The trackpad and the keyboard are above average from what i tested in stores. The only problem is the slow ram but it doesn’t bottleneck the system in the games i played soo far, i plan to change it into the future with a 32gb kit.
Also, the base storage is a little low but mine came with an additional 1tb samsung ssd. Overall its a great affordable high end-ish system.
That's a good deal

How does the 12700H compare to the 6800H variant if primary purpose is editing 4K videos? What about GPU selection in this case? Great review, always a big fan of your videos!
I'm gonna say Intel will be superior due to QuickSync.
@@HardwareCanucks Thanks, I picked up the 5i Pro, 12700H with 3070Ti, 32GB, 1 TB SSD, made my decision easier
Does it run quiet and does it have heating issues?

Which microphone of the laptop was tested during the webcam segment of this video? I'm curious if the Legion 5 now has the same microphone quality as the 5 pro because it offers a 1080p webcam option.
I want an all amd version base model, would be sick bang for buck
Hi, nice video. Would be great if you could review the top end configuration of Legion Slim 7i Gen 7 (2022). Thanks.
Great work sir. Please make a performance comparison video between Legion 5i Pro 2022 and Legion 5 Pro 2022.

So the back exhaust space is plastic for pro and alloy for 5. Interesting choice. That's the first thing that broke for my older 5. One drop inside the bag in week 1 and that broke. The keyboards are changed and looks better. I have two broken keys and service centers don't provide just keys, they want 15% -20% of the laptops money to change the keyboard.
so it better to go for non pro.?
@@rehan8662 Yes. I think build wise , Lenovo downgraded from last year. Even the 7 series got some weaker parts. Maybe it's cost management since RTX 40 series GPUs are really expensive.
I would go for regular 5 or Asus this time.
@Soumya Chakraborty I c, thank you for opinion. I was looking at gp66, legion 5i and predator i9 variant as they are all under same price.
Watching this video on my Legion 5 2021 3060 5800H, its still a damn beast(upgraded from an Ideapad Gaming 3i which broke down in an year!)

da cooling is better than Gen 6?
Please do compare them with Strix G15 version and the MSI. Thinking which one to get, purely for gaming. Thanks.

Hey I would suggest you to use the keyword 2022 in your video title as the youtube algorithm is not showing this video when you search for legion 5 pro 2022.
Wait does the Legion 5 have a 2.5inch bay? Wouldnt that make the battery smaller?
The battery is smaller on the rtx 3060 but can upgrade and bigger for rtx 3070ti
Small battery for AMD
@@mrinferno4876 because AMD is more efficient and you can upgrade the battery like last year's version.

Why no all AMD models
ASUS ROG Strix G17 (2022) or Lenovo Legion 5 Pro (2022). Both 3070 ti and ryzen 7 6800H, which one has better cooling system?
I personally find the Legion 5 a better buy unless you really want/need that 16:10 screen aspect ratio offered on the Pro

The 3050 ti has only 4 GB Vram, biggest bottleneck.
@@KartikJayaraman79 if you want to play AAA games on a laptop then yes it does bottleneck. But I don't want to play those games on a laptop. I rather play them on a pc that can max all the settings.
@@victorcalderon3100 Yes but the 3050Ti is in an awkward spot with 4 GB Vram, you are not even using the CPUs full potential. Even for light gaming or content creation (which is what I do), I could not justify the 3950Ti.
What color is the Legion 5 ? Is it a silver color or gray?
Feel like I watched an ad
Honestly the Legion 5(i) Pro should get that design from the Legion 5 cause it so clean. You'd expect to get such design when u pay more. I guess the Legion 5 is the golden child this year. Another hot take is that as much as 16:10 is great it's far from ideal when playing games especially with FPS since I prefer the wider screen to see my enemies. Not a problem for AAA and a very good for productivity like documents, video editing and rendering.
Legion 5 and 5 Pro is getting improve year over year and I hope we can see more powerful midrange series from other brands as well. Also I'm waiting for a 17 inch of that Legion 5 especially for Lenovo to improve it over their previous 17 options.
Do they run Linux?
What about the cooling performance. I want to see if the pro version works cooler due to the whole alloy body. I am about to buy one of these things.
Is there any difference of the performance of the components or ventilation? Assuming obviously same components
Hello, I do have a very important question, do you see the difference in screen in real life between these two models? Of course one is slightly bigger, but I’m talking about hdr400 on pro model, does it make difference?
I didn't see the model with 12700 + RTX3060 yet, wondering if it is offered this year.
Where can I buy the Legion 5 Pro in white? I've been searching everywhere and I just can't find it. :(
I don't think so that 5 pro has white variant. Only 5 has it in that cloud grey silver like color
Edit- only 5i pro has that white color
the difference between similar 5i and 5i pro configurations is $50, is that normal?
what do yoi think of legion 7 2021 3070?
