Koss is the most underrated audio brand imo. Their sound signature well refined and despite their price, they do keep up with hifi audio. They're a diamond in the rough for us audiophiles.
I don't even know if we can say they're underrated amongst audiophiles or if they have a regal status. But yes certainly as a consumer facing product for normies they are wildly underappreciated. Between the KSC-75 the Porta pro and the KP-30HI I mean all three of those are legendary. I guess there's a sequel to the latter. I don't know if they're quite as revered but I think it they have much better build quality at least which was probably the biggest weakness of these products. But that's reflected in the price and the sounds is just ridiculously good.
A couple of FYIs: 1. If you get the Porta Pros, also get the Yaxi earpads. Much more comfortable, and somehow opens up the sound more (they're a little muddy stock) 2. There is also a Porta Pro Communication model, which includes a gooseneck mic, and this mic is legitimately fantastic sounding, although it will pick up some ambient noise. And it's currently on sale for Black Friday.
I was going to mention the porta pro headset. Its my go to when I needs something wired quick. I have been wanting one for so long, super glad it finally came back!. I should really pickup a second for backup. When I had a temp pc setup I used it as my maininterface for work and play, can be driven by any half decent USB-C headset adapter. And yes the mic is LEGIT better than whats on most gaming headsets out there.
I *would* totally just rock Koss, but the problem with them is the wire is absolute dogshit. Then you have to buy a whole new pair. If they had a replaceable cable like every other enthusiast brand allows us to, these would be perfect
Replace them with some nylon sleeved cables, if you are capable of soldering, then you just spend 10-20 more to get basically undestructible headphones. I made my superlux hd 681 evo last 7 years, till the last week one speaker completely decided to die.... but 7 years for 35 bucks + 10 bucks of replacemente cables is a no brainer.
I got the wireless version of Porta Pros after having several wired ones made useless by the bad wires, well the only dangling wires in the wireless model also had the same bad contact issues with the wires... I liked all the versions of Porta Pro so far but I'll never buy one again unless they do something to the wires.
You're wearing the Porta Pro's backwards in the intro, and in some of the b-roll shots.. I only know this as I've made the same mistake countless times haha.
@@HardwareCanucks Well you're supposed to hold the bridge when putting them on, then you automatically put them on the right way around. :D Also, the cups can be adjusted outwards with the sliders above the speakers when they're on your ears, this moves the clamping force to your temples and away from the ears.
I am a mobile dj and have been using my Koss Pro4/X Plus 5 nights a week since 1988 and work flawlessly since the day I bought them and still sound incredible
I used the standard model Porta Pro's in the early 2000s on my PC for music & games (had a separate USB Logitech microphone) I just remember them having better than expected sound for their size and comfort was never an issue, The thin wiring eventually failed on one side but this was after several years, definitely got my moneys worth.
I actually use KPH30i for all of my computer needs, only issue is the build quality. As the plastic ages, it becomes brittle and snaps easily. There are 3D printed headband mods so you can easily repair when it eventually fails.
@@clippedwings2121Ehh just get an appropriate mic so no one has to deal with how bad it’ll sound to others 😂 If you can afford a gaming system and games, a $20 or so mic shouldn’t be an issue.
@@ВоробьёваАлександра-е5ф If the "clip" piece at the back that holds it in place is wire you can bend it. If not, have a look for different ear pads, there's larger ones that might help keep them in place.
I just picked up a pair of KPH30i's a few months ago. I got them as a spare until I felt like soldering my broken headphones. I moved my modmic over to them, and I've been so satisfied that I haven't bothered fixing my K7XX's. Can't recommend them enough for the price.
The 30s and Porta Pros are legendary, but the 40s are the best of the bunch. Make sure you get the YAXI pads for the Porta Pros with any of them. YAXI will work on all three, and it is 100% worth it.
I have a set of KSC75 that I absolutely love. When I get tired of my IEMs or my set of Sennheiser HD599, the clip on "set it and forget it" style of the KSC75 is a very welcome thing. They sound great, and are extremely comfortable. They are a perfect option for one ear on, one ear off gaming with friends sessions. I just let the game come through my speakers and send the chat through the one headphone. Occasionally I like giving my ears a rest and the KSC75 is the perfect headphone for me to do that.
Owned both of these and I definitely disagree. I prefer the HD6XX sound for sure, but even the Grado pads are uncomfortable for me. Maybe I've just got big ears though
Man we've really come full circle. The good old hair puller pros (the adjustment mechanism isnt perfect) were really good back then- cool to see this still is true.
I recommend the KPH30i with a protable cd-player. The 60 Ohm rejects hiss and interference from the motor spinning the CD. The Koss KPH75 has a bigger soundstage/headspace. Especially on a full tube amplifier, the Koss KPH75 really gives you an out of head experience. This is great for first-person games. Robocop Rogue City has fantastic audio design. The Koss KPH75 gives the illusion that ambient sounds are coming from your room. If you do not like the ear-hooks, you can always buy a headband. I spent responsibly. I bought two KPH30i and two KPH75.
Why bother? Years ago, I saw the "Windows Not Activated" watermark in one of PewDiePie's meme review videos. Since then, the shame I felt about running non-activated Window is gone, never to come back. At least I'm not pirating by using activation crack.

Yes bring back the KOSSS hype train. I've been on the KSC75s for a few years now. They unfortunately have gone up in price, used to be $20-25 CAD but now in the $40s. I should've bought more but I'm careful with my pair have had no issues. Pro tip, the you can get compatible headbands for the 75s and not have to use the ear clip, I never could keep wearing the ear clips for long periods of time. KOSS has a good line up of over-ears headphones that are underrated in the gaming scene, but they are well known in budget audio.
I had used KPH30I's for YEARS and i got them for 20 dollars. They are a great value and the sound quality is really good. Koss also makes gaming headsets with a more traditional form factor and i got the GMR 545 AIR open back USB headset for $30, AND I LOVE THEM!!!!!!
Koss KSC75X from Mass Drop is the best in my opinion, worth better than any headset. There is literally no weight; you get great open-back drivers and great imaging. It is also amazing for listening to music and has a decent mic (only the x).
It's always a little frustrating when Hardware Canucks features a product that's much more expensive to get (or sometimes even totally unavailable) in Canada. I know the US is a big market and you review everything in USD but this $35 headset ends up costing $70 CAD with shipping
Been using the Porta Pro Wireless (gen1) with yaxi pads for about 6 years as my go to everyday headphones. Absolutely love them and 100% thinking of getting the Porta Pro Wireless 2.0 once I can
Finally headphones get recognition they deserve, they also have ksc 75 and sPorta pro models which are basicly Porta pros drivers on different chassis my favorite are ksc 75 because how easy it is to just put them in your pocket and go, the only problem ALL of the KOSS headphones is a cable it will 100% get hard break somewhere and you will have to replace it which really easy as long as you have soldering iron and a spare cable or you can even mod them add connectors like mmcx and have replacable cable
Porta Pro were very popular back at the day. They can break quite easily, keep that in mind. But the fact they retained the same price over years is cool.
I've been using Koss Porta-pros on a daily basis for over a decade. They are really great headphones. They sound great and are very portable (you can buy hard cases for them online). I will be using them for years to come.
you wear these the wrong way in most of the shots but you acknowledged it :) when it comes to Porta Pros I had the version without the mic and the sound quality, clarity, stage and positioning was great, I think it beats most of the headphones that are 3 times more expensive. The annoying thing is that they spill and let in outside sound. Many people recable these to get even more from them. Styling is great, I had the classic black with blue and silver accents but KOSS needs to release these in an translucent shell, these would look great!!!
I literally wear my KHP40s with Yaxi pads probably 90% of the time now, because they're just that much more comfortable. They also just sound incredible for the price. I have $500 IEMs and headphones getting sporadic use.
15 year old me just arrived with a time machine and wonders if the cables still breaks after a month? Loved that these had lifetime warranty, so I probably went through 10 of these during my teens.
The cables are still fine on my Porta Pro after few years of daily use but the pads worn out, but thankfully there's replacement pads available for them
I grew up with the Porta Pro. I have had at least five, six of them under the years. The first one when I was around 10 years old. That was in 1993. Good sfuff
I love the KPH30i, they have crazy good sound quality for such simple and light pair of headphones. I'm not as big of a fan of Porta Pros, mostly because they are not as cheap at all, and the headset really plucks hair out of your head if you adjust them while on your head. The Koss KSC75 are also fantastic, if you want koss headphones that don't sit on your head.
I had Koss PortaPro 25th Anniversary Edition back in the day. They sound amazing, but the mechanism is terrible. It pulled out hair constantly, hurt my ears, and broke after a year.
As a kid of the 90's, the Koss KPH40x is very reminiscent of the same headphone i used growing up. More specifically, they were the same ones that came in the 1990's chevy conversion vans with the VHS player and TV.
I love my Koss headphones. Use them all the time over my expensive Sennheisers. Slap some Yaxi pads on them for more comfort. You can even make them use better detachable cables with a bit of soldering and some cheap parts on ebay or ali.
The Koss KPH 30i will break pretty much guaranteed. I have them, I love them for their sound and comfort. Especialy the comfort is MUCH better because of the plastic/rubber construction instead of metal. The rubber headband makes them much more wearable for me, because I am bald. I very much recommend replacing the cushions for something with a bit thicker foam.(Yaxi defo the best, but I had similar success with much cheaper aliexpress knock-offs) The MIC is good enough for teams calls where everyone pretty much sounds like crap anyway. My first pair lasted about a year, then snapped on the place where you adjust the headband size, I then had them repaired by KOSS, because one thing you kinda forgott to mention is their lifetime warranty service. (Not entirely free of charges though and kinda not worth it for these) Unfortunately, even though I then proceeded to handle them with the utmost care, they snapped in half again in a different spot right in the center of the headband this time.
I bought mine in the 1996. They have been on the market 12 years already and every audiophile used them with their walkmans. Then apple ipod came and audio quality went bad, but people accepted it. Idk why?
Koss Porta Pros are a great model, especially as they're virtually the same from the engineering standpoint as they were at launch 30 years ago. Have you checked out the new Koss Porta Pro Wireless? They're definitely not reviewed enough!
bro I have upgraded my laptop by installing 500gb SSD I have a dell Inspiron 15 3593 laptop in which 1 tb hdd comes so the problem is i use the clone process and clone my data + windows from hdd to SSD now I am unable to set my SSD as the primary boot drive the windows still boot from hdd . i have done all the methods from google like BIOS setting ... but it still boot from hdd . please help me how can i fix this??
Honestly the difference in sound quality between the DAC and your motherboard could be an impedance issue. My Fiio K5Pro will drive most everything I have very well, except for my Tin T2's. They are flirting with that minimum 16 ohm impedance that the DAC/AMP combo provides, so entire frequency ranges just get blasted into oblivion. Plugging my T2's into something like the Legion Go however, they just come alive and sound amazing. With the Koss' being about 60 ohms, it would make sense that a less powerful DAC would not be able to drive those properly
Had the KPH30 clears. Very nice. Some major noise bleed that made me switch to push to talk cuz my mic would pick it up but pretty good for the price tbh
Try KSC75 and even mod it with headband like KPH40. You just get incredible Gaming headphone just 20~30USD. Soundstage is wide and mid-treble focus tuning, which good for gaming, yet sound quite decent for music as well.
I used to rock this for gaming until i use it mic..sadly the mic has an issue called crosstalk. The internal cabling is not separated nor shielded between each other, Making your friends in discord can hear whatever you watching on your pc.
Honestly, old headphone designs like this were brilliant. No blasting your eardrums. No gawdy look. Just good sound. Need to hear whats going on around you? You can at lower volume. Or take one off your ear. The old addage, if it aint broke dont fix it stands firm. If these give good directional sound. Then the whole over ear headphone craze, is mostly for the built in mic. After getting the pc38x after having nothing but closed back. I will never buy a closed back headset again. Open back is just superior in comfort for your ears, and surroundings. No booming from your own voice either when you talk.
0:30 I think the headphones are working too hard because they are catching fire and smoking in the scenes. I don't want headphones that work so hard they catch fire!
They're not worth buying if you live outside the US due to different price and added shipping and non-availability. And the driver has issues as well, it cannot play complex music or be listened to loudly or handle low bass as well as other frequencies at the same time - it distorts into buzzing territory. And if they don't they eventually will. They are also flimsy and poorly made. They will break, the wire will split, you will have to buy new earpads after just a few months etc. Might as well just buy something else as in two years you will have bought 3 pairs.
None of that has been my experience thus far, and I own a handful of different models. Perhaps your experience has been with some knock offs, which unfortunately are out there.
@@deuswulf6193 There are no knockoffs that have the Koss label itself. My comment is about the KSC75 which is the most commonly recommended Koss model online and these models share the same driver.
@@igorbog88 There are knockoffs. I know, I intentionally bought a few off aliexpress for a project. As for the KSC75, no they are not the same drivers as the ones shown in this video. The KSC75, only shared drivers with the KTXPro 1. They use a "titanium" coating on them, which I personally don't think sounds as good as the drivers used in the Porta Pro, Sporta Pro and KPH30 or 40 models. I own 4 different pairs of these headphones, so I know what they are capable of.
I used to own Porta-Pro in Mini-disc era, so they're great, but while wearing them and adjust them, they tend to bite on my hair, so they're hair pullers. Not used them for decades, so they might be better this time, and they didn't have the cable mic back then and they're very robust.
ive been saying the porta pro is amazing for a while and there is a version with a extended boom mic that sounds great and works great for gaming also if you add foam to the foam pads on the temples of the porta pro you can use the sliders and it takes the pressure off your ears i did this by cutting sum foam and double sided taping it to the foam allready there to extend it a bit
The Porta Pros are too dark and bassy, the Koss Kph40 and Ksc75 is where it's at for gaming. I own all the fairly priced koss headphones and gravitate towards the Kph40 for gaming.
I don't see why not. I would probably choose the KsC75 over them but zero latency / plug and Play/open design with great sound stage. What would you recommend for gaming instead?
@michaelcorcoran8768 well I currently use dt 900 pro x for open back and hd 620s for closed back for gaming. Can't think of many headphones you could get for the price of the koss. K361 were good for 70€
I don't like over the ear "gaming" headphones, my ears become hot and uncomfortable from too much pressure. I much prefer ear buds in most situations but these Koss look like they would be good alternatives.
you really embraced the chris pratt with the koss headphones

(Not entirely free of charges though and kinda not worth it for these) Unfortunately, even though I then proceeded to handle them with the utmost care, they snapped in half again in a different spot right in the center of the headband this time.
been using the Koss Porta Pro, for all my mobile needs, since 2007 :)
I have a pair of Koss KPH30i that I've been using for well over a year and they are great.
I bought mine in the 1996. They have been on the market 12 years already and every audiophile used them with their walkmans.
Then apple ipod came and audio quality went bad, but people accepted it. Idk why?
They look like my first ever walkman headphones from ages ago 👴🏽
Is there any difference between the Koss Prota pro and the Porta Pro X?
No difference. They also sound the same as the Sporta Pro which is even cheaper and can be fully rotated.
@deuswulf6193 Thanks!
do these really sound that good? going to have to try them❤
Wait till you try the KSC75s, and upgrade them with a Porta Pro/KPH40 headband. Those are end game headphones imo.
I still think Porta Pros and KPH30/40 sound better than the titanium driver based KSC75s.
Koss Porta Pros are a great model, especially as they're virtually the same from the engineering standpoint as they were at launch 30 years ago.
Have you checked out the new Koss Porta Pro Wireless? They're definitely not reviewed enough!
Watching this from my Porta Pro Wireless ❤
Hows the sound with steam deck?
This looking nicely comfortable for my ear while wearing glasses.
Koss rules in ultra budget sector!
bro I have upgraded my laptop by installing 500gb SSD I have a dell Inspiron 15 3593 laptop in which 1 tb hdd comes so the problem is i use the clone process and clone my data + windows from hdd to SSD now I am unable to set my SSD as the primary boot drive the windows still boot from hdd . i have done all the methods from google like BIOS setting ... but it still boot from hdd . please help me how can i fix this??
Those prices are not C$, right? Saw the PortaPro on Amazon for 3 times the cost.
OMFG, Starlord please play Awesome Mix Vol. 1 !
Love the porta pros for exercising.
Had the KPH30 clears. Very nice. Some major noise bleed that made me switch to push to talk cuz my mic would pick it up but pretty good for the price tbh
2:40 Aww shucks, I wanted to hear the mic test of the PortaPro communications model with the boom mic.
The internal cabling is not separated nor shielded between each other,
Making your friends in discord can hear whatever you watching on your pc.
Use a separate mic, its worth it for the superior comfort.
I already have a Koss Potra Pro. Should i buy this version also :v
Had a pair of Porta Pro's for many years. The only other lightweight headphones that equalled them were Sennheisers.
KHP30i is such a well balanced headphone
Honestly, old headphone designs like this were brilliant. No blasting your eardrums. No gawdy look. Just good sound. Need to hear whats going on around you? You can at lower volume. Or take one off your ear. The old addage, if it aint broke dont fix it stands firm. If these give good directional sound. Then the whole over ear headphone craze, is mostly for the built in mic. After getting the pc38x after having nothing but closed back. I will never buy a closed back headset again.
Open back is just superior in comfort for your ears, and surroundings. No booming from your own voice either when you talk.
They're such great iconic headset that are limited by their antiquated non-detachable cables. Luckily they're easy to modify.
honestly this might be the go to for mobile gaming drivers
0:30 I think the headphones are working too hard because they are catching fire and smoking in the scenes. I don't want headphones that work so hard they catch fire!
70' headphones making a comeback... We went full circle...
The portapros are so good, cult classic.
I own 4 different pairs of these headphones, so I know what they are capable of.
how are they _still_ making the portapro lol, I remember buying like 4 of them 10-15 years ago and them breaking all the time as they were so flimsy
I've bought decade ago and they still work
I used to own Porta-Pro in Mini-disc era, so they're great, but while wearing them and adjust them, they tend to bite on my hair, so they're hair pullers. Not used them for decades, so they might be better this time, and they didn't have the cable mic back then and they're very robust.
Koss literally invented the headphone.
Dude, is that intentional or are you wearing them backwards?
ive been saying the porta pro is amazing for a while and there is a version with a extended boom mic that sounds great and works great for gaming
also if you add foam to the foam pads on the temples of the porta pro you can use the sliders and it takes the pressure off your ears
i did this by cutting sum foam and double sided taping it to the foam allready there to extend it a bit
Koss released a wireless version of the porta pro a few weeks back!
Use KSC75 with the kph40 headband that's the best of the koss lineup
The Porta Pros are too dark and bassy, the Koss Kph40 and Ksc75 is where it's at for gaming. I own all the fairly priced koss headphones and gravitate towards the Kph40 for gaming.
For PS5??
I believe the 75x are better, cheaper, has a mic, and are more balanced tuned
What game is this??
awesome headphones, have had a pair since the 90s.
ps: you can get a "sportier" sporta pro version
Oh wow, been too long since I seen Koss headphones (very big part of my youth between my walkmans, portable CD Players, and music classes).
This is exactly what my first pair of Sony headphones looked like, back in the 80s. :)
I'd still go with IEM's over on-ear headphones. I'm using a pair of Final Audio a4000, all-round great earphones!
IEMs can't match the comfort of the KSC75X.
Believe it or not folks, these are some end game stuff. You can spend more, but these are just special
PortaPro are my in-office headphones
Dang. I was really excited about these but it seems like you need a DAC for it to be useful, right?
Nope, my cheap android phone can handle my ksc75 and porta pro.
@@mrkvn223ksc75 and porta pro which one is more sustainable and reliable?
My first koss porta pro were in 1988. Rhcp mother’s milk on my cd Walkman. They still sound great 👍
I do love my porta pro wireless for music and movies but can't imagine them being that good for gaming
EVERYWHERE I GO I SEE THEM. I CANT ESCAPE THE KOSS HEADPHONES GAHHHHHHH
