Any chance you remember where you purchased your blinker arm thing? Mine recently broke and its exactly how yours was when It was wobbly. I cant seem to find it anywhere
@HowtoAutomotive this looks like a very easy process to change out the switch I watched your video a few times because I too am experiencing a problem with mine recently. If I push the lever forward to activate my bright lights sometimes it will work sometimes not a few times I had to push the lever inwards and at the same time forward too to activate the brights and also same way to get them to shut off so I’m assuming my switch is bad this is the only problem as of now is with the brights the wipers and turn signals are fine I’m glad you posted this video ! Is the switch still working good ? Im kind of a DIY guy and think I can handle this. Where did you get the new switch ? any other things I need to know or expect? Thanks for helping all of us!!
@HowtoAutomotive Thanks for such an awesome video this was actually an easy job the only panel that was a pain in the arse was the bottom one under the steering wheel a little cussing and pushing with a plastic radio removal tool got that piece out new switch went in like butter and just more cussing to get that under wheel piece back in lol I did disconnect negative battery cable before starting NOTE: before disconnecting battery move your drivers seat back as far as you can if your a bigger guy like me 230lbs lol. The extra room helps. Tools I used were 7/32 socket ( I had no 5.5 metric) 7 mm for two screws holding big bottom plastic panel 5/16 socket for battery cable removal plastic fork type stereo removal pry bar and a cup of coffee. Once switch was mounted I made sure all features worked and they did. I like how the new one is stiffer when activating the directionals in either direction. But then again my old one was oem since 2007. Thanks for your detailed video!!
Super detailed video! Thanks so much. I'm a 60 year old grandmother and was able to replace mine by watching this. Having you tell us which screw size was a big help. I actually didn't have a 5.5mm socket but a 7/32 fit.
I checked 3 or 4 different socket sets and none had a 5.5mm socket, a little math showed that 7/32 is almost the same. Worked great for me. Thanks for the short and to the point video.
Thank you so much for making this video ! I was quoted 300 bucks for a new turn signal and the install. I found the turn signal on Amazon for 53 bucks and I installed it myself , I couldn't be any happier !!!
wait a video on how to fix something on youtube where you don't have to listen to 20 mins about the history of the car or truck ... or what the guy fixing the truck is doing that weekend, or about his wife's cousin's, daughter's, boy friend's, next door neighbor's dog? How to automotive I think you are my new fave youtube channel of all time!
There is also a SPRING that inserts into a channel under the switch. Don't lose it when you lift the switch up from the column. Make sure you install it into the new switch.
It's the best video I have ever seen!!!! In fact, I bought the tools to remove the steering wheel since all videos were showing that. Thankfully, I had something else to do it and today, when I decided to install this part, I found this video making everything much easier. Thank you for your contribution!!!!!
GREAT VIDEO! Thank you SO MUCH for posting this. Ordered switch from Amazon and installed on my 2007 F150 following your instructions. Taking it all out was easy, putting a couple covers back in place took a bit of tweaking, but I got it done! I am NOT a do-it-yourself person, but I could do this thanks to you. Thanks again!!!
Toughest part was that bottom trim, coming out & especially going back in. Helped when you described it as "flaring" those flanges that tuck into the steering wheel. Thanks & good job.
Worked like a dream ... thank you. Took45 minutes, total. Normally I'm very slow. Longest delay was getting the plastic covers back in place at the very end.
Thank you so much! This video was perfect! I was going to take my truck to the dealership, but I decided to order my part and replace it myself. I am so grateful that you took the time to make this video!
Thanks for the video! Very easy to follow step by step. Took me about a half hour to complete. Most of that time was getting the plastic housing back together and in place.
I want to thank you for this video. It saved me a ton of money and gave me the confidence I needed to complete this. I have an 06 expedition and the only difference is instead of the 5.5 mm screws they are Phillips head. Super easy to do... thank you again!
Dude! THANK YOU for posting this. It took me a little over an hour (I have 10 thumbs) but after wrestling the bottom section of the steering column back on required the most grunting effort, it looks and works great.
Thank you for this video, went step by step and behold I installed it, with a few hiccups from bottom small panel getting it back in. Can’t be afraid to bend the panel a little it won’t break. Didn’t take that long and saved probably hundreds. Thanks again
Thank you very much for the easy to follow video. The first video I found had many steps. Requiring me to pull fuses, disassemble the airbag, blah, blah. At that point, I decided to call PepBoys. They didn't have the part so I researched again and found this video. It gave the confidence to go buy the part and do it myself. Bravo to you Sir greasy to follow instructions!
FYI if you don't get the covers seated correctly around the ignition switch it might not engage. I needed a new battery anyway, but that could have been an avoided expense had I realized that the switch was not engaging enough to allow the truck to crank. Thank you so much for this video.... I, uh, (kick the dirt) won't say how long it took me, but it is done! :D
Thanks for the video. I wasn't looking forward to having to remove the steering wheel. Your instructions made the process easy. Removed and replaced within 20 mins.
Fantastic video. I am not very savvy when it comes to this sort of work but after following this video I am a pro and am available to help anyone dealing with this problem 😂😂😂
Man you save me a ton of money with this video! I Had the whole thing done in less than 20 minutes with the only hang up being the bottom plastic piece being so tight under the steering wheel. Thanks for the video!
I just wanted to thank you for this video, I was hesitant about removing my airbag to replace this combo switch but coming across your video I didn’t have to.
Hi Brian, Thanks for taking the time to do this, it's an excellent how-to video and better than most I've seen. I just replaced the TS combination switch on my 2005 F-150 and everything went well EXCEPT when it came to getting the lower half of the plastic cover back onto the column.(I noticed this issue has been mentioned in several comments here.) After trying every possible angle and fighting with it for 15 minutes I started thinking it would have been faster and easier to just pull the steering wheel. I finally got it on somehow but I still have no idea how I finally got it into place. After the bottom cover was finally over the column I noticed the bottom and top halves were tweaked just enough that it was now impossible to get them to line up and snap together even though I worked on aligning them for about 15 minutes. It seems like the bottom plastic cover got stretched out of shape just enough that the two halves would no longer align properly leaving a small gap that would really bother me if this had been a newer vehicle. I noticed another video where the guy removed the mounting screw from the bottom half cover but didn't pull the cover completely off--he just let it dangle under the column, held in place by the cover's two plastic flanges which were still in place under the steering wheel. That might be something to consider. Anyway, just my experience and a heads-up to anyone thinking of doing this. Thanks again!
Thanks. Great video. Helped me out. The hardest thing for me was getting that plastic piece under the steering column back on. I got the left side up and then used s flathead to pop the right side up and seated properly. I couldn’t do it with my hands.
Your video was very helpful. Everything went exactly as you said. I was prepared to remove the steering wheel and air bag, etc. Then I happened upon your video which seemed like a much easier job, as well as safer. About 20 minutes of work. Thank you again.
It took me about 40 minutes to replace, thanks to your very informative video. It DID take some finagling to get the bezels back together, but it worked. Thanks!
Thank you for the video, did this on my own per your vid. Getting the plastic back together was a chore. Especially the last part of plastic housing. 1 1/2 hours job done. Disassembly 15 minutes, balance of time dickin with plastic.
Bottom plastic panel!!! 2 things. 1. I have no 5.5mm socket but 7/32 worked fine. 2. Most my time was spent on reinstalling that bottom trim panel. On a hunch, I started the truck and turned the steering wheel 1/4 left. Turn off and remove key.. Was able to get the panel in (dare I say "easily"?) by starting on the right side. Wasn't really easy but I was going nowhere otherwise. Great video. Even fighting that bottom panel it's still gotta be easier than steering wheel. removal.
Great video! Worse part was getting upper and lower plastic covers to fit. Actually decided to trim pieces to get them back in easier. Besides, only Ford would notice. Thanks!
Wanted to thank you for sharing your knowledge, I followed your instructions and it went well, though putting the panel under the steering column was unfun. Thanks again...subbed
Thanks for the video Brian. I was driving my dad's F150 & @ first I thought the high beam dash light was inoperable.... Then, head first toward a wall I clicked for high beams - nothing. Jiggled switch & it worked.... but wouldn't go back to low beam.. another jiggle & lever came out. Yes, broken I found your video & I'll change the lever in the morning. i appreciate it. Thank you
Muchas gracias por el video...excelente información paso a paso desde principio a fin...again thank you for the excelent step by step video information..i have a 2006 f150 southern comfort truck
The 2004 Ford Expedition (which most F150 repair videos describe just as well) is just slightly different in this case. FYI, the top housing is just one piece, which is a little easier. But there's also a different screw to that housing that I missed. It holds the back of the housing down. You reach it from under the steering column. It's not terribly obvious because it's surrounded by other brackets and wiring, but you'll need to undo it as well.
Definitely one of the best videos I've seen. One question...is there any chance of the air bag deploying if you make a simple mistake, and would that be dangerous? It's not unusual for instructions to start with disconnecting the battery before messing with the steering column.
Getting those covers back on are a pain. Be careful not to break the tabs. This is why its recommended to take the steering wheel off. Anyway I accomplished the task. Thanks for the video.
I've watched several of these- one mentions you have to pull out a small spring and transfer it. From the left side on the bottom, take it out with a pick. There is a tab on the left side that goes up into the new housing and that tab compresses the spring in place...

👍🏼 agreed
So glad you posted this, I was not looking forward to pulling the entire steering wheel.
This seams much easier than removing the entire Steering Wheel just to get to the Multi-function Switch for replacement... THX
There is also a SPRING that inserts into a channel under the switch. Don't lose it when you lift the switch up from the column. Make sure you install it into the new switch.
The new switch comes with a new spring inside
Didn't know of about the springs. Seems to me it's working fine
Son was able to do this after watching your video in less than 20 minutes. Thanks for saving me a lot of trouble and money.

Just wanted to say thanks for this video. No removal of the steering wheel! 45 minutes and I have turn signals again!
OUTSTANDING video and well done! I always though that the air bag needed to be removed but I guess not now ...
Excellent video. Have to change mine and didn't want to remove the airbag..now feel confident enough to tackle. Thanks 👍

Hi thanks a lot for the video, really helpful. I was able to changed my signal assembly in no time.
👍👍👍
Sweet thanks! I was putting this off because I didn't want to go thru pulling off the steering wheel.
Thanks for the great video. Other than the housing under the steering column (that was all me), I had very little problems changing out the switch.
Just the video I'm looking for. Thanks for the big help.
Need an entire video on how to put that bottom cover back in place. I was about to saw it in half in rage.
Getting those covers back on are a pain. Be careful not to break the tabs. This is why its recommended to take the steering wheel off. Anyway I accomplished the task. Thanks for the video.
Yeah, that under-column panel was a bit of a bear. Luckily, I was able to finagle it back on without any tabs breaking. I'm glad you did as well.
awesome i did the same as the video and came out perfect.. good tutorial
I've watched several of these- one mentions you have to pull out a small spring and transfer it. From the left side on the bottom, take it out with a pick. There is a tab on the left side that goes up into the new housing and that tab compresses the spring in place...
Right. Some replacement switches have a new spring; some don't. It's a pesky little thing because it doesn't want to stay in.
Thanks for this demo.
Great video, saved me a lot of time. Thanks :)
