Yes agreed that car was a few short steps away from the scrap and I don’t think the money you’re selling it for is excessive considering all the work it’s had done and probably all the running around involved. Profit is not the same as rip off.
Your attention to detail and honest approach deserves a 👏. It's great to see another future classic being saved from the crusher. Another 👍🏻s up from me for a great YT vid.
The price is totally fair for a V8 luxury saloon that is sorted. It's great to see a car dealer genuinely sort a car before selling it, instead of just doing cheap fixes here and there just to make a quick profit for the expense of the customer.
I used to be an avid watcher of Wheeler Dealers (up until Ed China left). And when they were working on the cars and putting everything right I was thinking THIS is how used car dealers should be, repairing or replacing things which are clearly showing signs of age. In other words NOT spending all their time trying to cover up defects while falsely claiming everything is "in very good condition for its age sir". But I thought at the time there is no such dealer anywhere like that, and never will be, that behaviour is 'dyed in the wool'. Enter Matt - YOU are that mythical car dealer! and from all I can gather is someone that anyone would like to buy a used car from, and when that one needs changing, will come back for another one. Well Done Matt, that car is worth every penny of what you are asking. 👌😉
Every penny well spent, it looks superb! Good luck with the selling, looks like a great car for the money. As with your excellent report on that Disco 3, the amount of work/cash that can go into sorting older vehicles is considerable!
As you were reeling off what you spent on the Jaaaag , I was thinking a jag lover would give you 4 to 4.5k for that now , when you think though you paid professionals to do it for you , a lot of those jobs ( not all like the wheels ) could have been done quite easily by the man in the street really. Well done for saving it .
I have a Colt for sale, 2005. Chap called and said 'That's well over book price for that year and model!' I said, If you think that's expensive, wait until you buy a cheap one..' I'd spent well over £1500 (garage prices) on getting it near perfect. Sailed through the MOT. Cheap cars are fine if you can do a great deal of the work yourself properly, but garage costs will turn any bargain into a wallet-opener.
Love seeing a car properly cared for and done to a good standard, a rare thing these days sadly. I'll be keeping an eye on your stock when it's time for a change of car myself.
Great video very enjoyable. The reason brits can be bitter and negative is they're not willing to put their balls on the line to run their own business. There's a price to pay to be succesfull working for yourself, most aren't willing to and are jealous of those that do.
Not sure I totally agree Nick I think it is more we are fixated on price rather than value. People just see £750 and the current price but don't see the work or effort to get it there which is a shame
Just bought a 2008 V6 3.2L Jag S type. Here in the US, they are not very common. In fact, my car was quite difficult to find. It only has 65,000 miles on it so you would think it would have been well cared for since the warranty only expired 5,000 miles ago. I paid double (in USD) what you paid. It will probably cost me another $2,000 USD to give it the care that the previous owner neglected. It needed new brakes, a new spare tire, a working turn signal which I negotiated with the dealership to correct. There are various minor fluid leaks (seals, etc) that my mechanic is going to correct for me. I will be giving it proper maintenance on a schedule. It's a beautiful, classic car which really stands out from the sea of Mercedes and BMWs we have here in southern California. Looking forward to owning this car the rest of my life!
Thought your S Type looked well worth saving particularly as its a V8 with a nice spec. You have done a great job restoring it to its former glory and I'm glad you kept it original. I'm sure most Jag lovers will appreciate the time and money you have invested in it to get it to such a high standard. Think its well worth 4.5k and if the new owner looks after it and perhaps gets it rust proofed it should have years of service left in it. Only a matter of time before these become modern classics and then the values will increase - so a win win really!
Well done for perseverance with the Jag. You've kept a British classic on the road for other people in the future to enjoy. I was genuinely surprised it didn't cost more. Keep up the good work
I bought my 2007 S Type diesel in 2013 with 52000 miles under its wheels. After 30,000 miles, service at each MoT (including oil change), de rusting of sills and subframe, some paint rectifications and general TLC it remains a fast, quiet and comfortable car. Not worth a lot but I can still buy (subject to supply) lots of fuel for the price of a new Micra! Good video. Thanks.
Cars of this quality, when looked after in a way Matt does, have a further 25 years life in them at least before a full restoration is required. Well done
I have an 06 S Type R. I’ve had it for over 6 years and have done a lot of work like you did to that one. Wheels, paint correction, etc. I used it as a daily and it’s the most reliable car I ever owned. The R is mad when you put your foot down. It’s also docile when on the highway. Amazingly underrated Jag.
I’m very glad you’re giving this great S-type a full treatment. My compliments to you, Matt. As mentioned before the S-type is one of my favorite drivers. My 2005 2.7 D Executive has had few expenses over the last 11 years, just routine maintenance. If something serious happens to it, I wouldn’t hesitate to get it fixed.
Top job. These old Jaguars are worth saving. Done something similar with my 3.0 V6 and will do it again if ever needed. Whoever buys your V8 will love it.
Lovely car for someone at a cheap price. I miss mine and while I like my XF it sometimes feels less of a Jag than the S type (or maybe I’m just getting old)!!!!!
Matt, what a great car! It’s the right color combo and right spec. Someone could easily drive that another 10 years with basic maintenance. The S-Type really is the perfect, reliable daily driver Jag. Brilliant job!
After being in the building trade and with family in the motor trade I see this as fair money for good work done as well as other traders charging fair prices. You have kept a classic car from the dismantlers and I know someone will really enjoy this S-Type. Good on ya..... Bob
I’ve always loved these Jaguars. I remember my dad getting one when I was just a kid - the speed at which that 4.2 V8 took off when he pushed the great big S button on the centre console blew my 12 year old mind. The credit crunch and cost of petrol ultimately led to him selling it on, a real shame because it was such a nice car. You can pick the smaller engine ones up for pennies nowadays! This video has me scouring eBay!
Turned into a little gem and excellent value for money, well worth the effort and the expenditure. Here's hoping the new owner cherishes and looks after her as she deserves. Nice house by the by. Profit is not a dirty word, it's reward for fair dealing and hard work especially in the motor trade.
Glad you've done that, rather than selling it on as a cheap runaround. Earlier model being cheaper tax too, so saving £260 a year compared to later model.
Fantastic transformation. Its deffiently worth the money it's been brought up to a1 condition both cosmetically and mechanically. Great video as always.
Don’t stop doing what you do Matt, saving beautiful old cars from the crusher! A job well done 👍🏻 and if you make a profit (modest or otherwise) then good luck to you mate. I bet that V8 sounds so good when you floor it!
The very fact that you do everything that needs done and do it properly means we can have confidence in buying from you, which is rare amongst second hand car dealers and personally I think you fully deserve a reasonable profit margin. Great job Matt 👍🏼
The mesh-type grille is what the S Type-R’s had from the factory. My former Boss also installed the mesh type grille along with the leaping cat on the bonnet on his 2000 model S type some years ago, The chrome door mirror covers you have weren’t from the factory for that early model S type either.
I greatly admire your open book approach when it comes to talking about your business. Those of us that run businesses (not the billion pound empires I hasten to add!) turning a profit contribute our fair share in taxes etc. Making a profit means you’re not having to live off others and are able to help those that are less fortunate, I think the keyboard warriors should remember that. 👍
I've been looking at Jags for a while, but just can't find as yet what i really want. A XJ or XF is what i've been looking at which you have covered before, but the brand has really grown on me. You got to love a Jag
Love all your videos and your honest attitude. You mentioned XKR... I'm a member of a couple of Jaguar clubs. I know another member selling a gorgeous silver 2009 XKR coupe. He's gotten discouraged by time wasters and criminals so has backed off from the sale, but interest from a genuine buyer would seal the deal...
Just the fact that you gave us your personal costs and what you hoped you could sell it for is admirable. Not many do that. That is what stands you out.Thanks.
You have saved a Jag, profit is not a dirty word You haven't taken the cheap option as you have said how many 'good ones' do you see now? A definite future classic and who ever gets that one will be pleased Keep up the very good work
Lovely car well worth it's price . Ignore the nothing good to say folk . Someone is going to have a bit of a beauty on their hands for not a lot of money . Nice work lad ! More power to you 💪
We have just returned from spain for the eight.th holiday in my 3.0 pet .s type once again never missed a beat have just this past week change engine oil etc. plus gearbox oil &pan filter it returned 35.9 miles per gallon ! they really are fantastic value
Very interesting; I know unconnected people who have done something similar for two S classes. Both had to have their back door locks changed for some problem when locking. Not here but you might want to check that.
I thought you’d spent money hand over fist for the sake of it but it’s nice to know you’ve still got a margin for some profit. Obviously you know what you’re doing and the car looks great.
The government do do rather better financially than the dealer..as they do nothing towards the vehicles resale. Always use Auto Reserve at Ilkeston in Derbyshire for Jaguar spares, they have most bits in stock. Excellent video.
I love how when you tell us the price for the alloys you’ve paid your High Peak Autos clothing advert pops up! Like a please help me to keep doing what I’m doing #feedmycarobsession ☺️☺️☺️ Love what you’ve done with the jaaaaggg mate!
Well done! I’ve got 2003 S type too! Love my Jag. Sad to say, I need my garage and need to put up for sale. I, like spent more than allowed, but felt genuinely satisfied it was well worth a car that looked like it still came off the showroom floor! Kudos to saving a magnificent, classic, elegant Jag!
Great work on this vehicle. Transformed to an excellent example of that modern classic. Whoever gets it - and I hope they pay every penny of the asking price - will have a wonderful car. Only wish it could have been me. I’ve always loved these. You deserve all the profit you get from this and then some for saving this Jaguar. A brilliant video showing how something like this should be done.
Looks lovely, I’ve got to get all disks pads and tyres for my 2000 S-type ready for winter. Completely not worth it financially , but definitely worth it to keep it on the road..
I'd love the jag especially with the work put in . That gorgeous soundtrack is nearly justifying the 16MPG round town. Would expect an enthusiast to snap it up and continue to keep it burbling along nicely . Thanks for sharing costs etc . Interesting to know how tight margins are even when it's done right.
Thank you for saving a car that no one else would even care about. Here in America people are looking for excellent examples of older vehicles from the early 2000's especially the Nissan Pathfinder, 4Runner and other well built and rugged SUV's of that time.
If I lived near to your business I would definitely check it out. So nice to hear someone talking straight and open about cars. Love that old Jag, cheap at 4.5 k considering it has been sorted
I feel your pain for the cost of the alloy refurb. I managed to get my 19" Alfa 159 ti alloys refurbished and my brake calipers repainted for £360 all in.
You're closing comments reminded me of something I read years ago Matt. 20 Americans at a bus stop in Chicago were drenched in the rain by a Rolls-Royce wafting past! The consensus of those awaiting public transport was..... "One day I'm going to have one of those!. A similar scenario in Birmingham?.the response was? Who does he think he is ... Needs taking down a peg or two, disgruntlement to the N th. Sounds about right still! Loved my "S" type by the way! Albeit a 2.7 D... Great car and we still miss it!
Haha youre right. I watched an interview on youtube with Stephen Fry and Craig Ferguson on America. It made me realise what the difference in mentality was/is
Matt, I'm sure you'll find a buyer who's more than willing to pay your asking price - that Jag is now a solid example of a beautiful car. And this video clearly demonstrates your faith in there being plenty of life left in it, otherwise you wouldn't have gone to all the effort.
Check the rear tyres before you swap the wheel bearings the common for saw toothing - swap front to back and road test. All stems from those rear tie bars! New tyres and 4 wheels alignment normally sorts it
Thank you for a really enjoyable trip. I have a 2004 E class Mercedes saloon that I feel is an old friend, because I bought it a year before I retired, it only has 50k on the clock. I have recently been offered £600 pounds for it as a part exchange. My car is stunning, comfortable, reliable, well cared for, so I know exactly how you feel about your jag. I have also learnt something important about you. Your a good man! Well done.
for some reason i have always liked the look of the S type Jaaaaag. i watched this film at work on my break time and on my desk is a small silver Jaguar S type Matchbox type car.
I enjoyed refurbin this vehichle such a genuine car . This one is a future classic hands down well worth every penny off anybody's money . Didn't want to give it back lovely car . JP
I'm on the list of the few who actually like the S Type. I remember the TV ad with Shirley Bassey singing.... Fair play for saving another V8 Jaaaaaaag 👍🏻
The problem is that the general public have absolutely no idea how much things cost. You have given this car a new lease of life but when you explain the costings your profit margins are not that good. I work as a electrical contract and people still think a full house rewire can be done for a grand the materials alone cost near that. Good video yet again.
I picked up one here in the United States for $450.00 it needed a starter, fuel pump and alternator. It runs now but needs a tune up as it has a low speed misfire. It also needs tires because they are over 10 years old and flat spotted from sitting for 4 years. The A/C also doesn't work and it needs some interior work in the trunk/boot. I think it will be a decent car when I get done with all these fixes. It's the kind of car a mechanic needs to own.
I bought an SR (V8 Supercharged) way back in 2003 - I still have it, though I don't drive it much now that I work at home. It's only done 150,000 miles. I live in California so there's no rust and the condition is excellent both inside and out. The wife thinks I should get rid of it and get something electric instead. But trade-in value is only about $2500-$3000 US. I still love it so much - so it might come down to who I love more - the wife or the Jag!
Fantastic that you did all that work on it, and saved a classic from being scrapped within a year or so. The price you are selling it is a bargain considering how sorted it looks! I'd go for it, but not needing this sort of car this year! Another clear, honest and well-produced video. Hope you chilled a bit after the altercation with the Micra!
Wonderful job done.Wish I could get that type of repair done in the Caribbean.I think you did a good job and you did an honest repair its better than buying a 2 year old car that you do not know what will go wrong.Hope you get a line waiting to pay u 5 grand.
What a beautiful car and a great restoration. If I was in the market for a new car I would definitely consider this. Sadly not to be for me, but the new owner will love it.
It was definitely worth saving - I prefer the facelift cars but these old brit favourites won't be around forever so its worth holding on to them. My step dad had an XKR about the same age as this and it was just such a thing to behold in person. Unfortunately he had to get rid quick and sold it to WBAC for £1400. I was furious, because I obviously would have bought it for £1401.
Nice work on the Jag. Never looked at one of these and now I would not mind a V8 version. Just wish they were the same price here in Australia as what you pay there.
You should be commended for saving a lovely ol Jag. You should also be commended for your honesty! Well worth it in my book.
Thanks!
well answered, really nice comment, Bonjour de Montpellier!

Like a please help me to keep doing what I’m doing #feedmycarobsession ☺️☺️☺️
Love what you’ve done with the jaaaaggg mate!
Tbf that car does look stunning. Hope it sells 👍🏻
Looks lovely, I’ve got to get all disks pads and tyres for my 2000 S-type ready for winter. Completely not worth it financially , but definitely worth it to keep it on the road..
Great job saving and turning round a really neat car.
Nice one Matt, i think you have only done what most car guys ‘would’ do if they could to the Jag!
great job
Rob. Glasgow (just off the nite shift😊)
Love all old jags and thats a beautiful example.
Thank you for saving a car that no one else would even care about. Here in America people are looking for excellent examples of older vehicles from the early 2000's especially the Nissan Pathfinder, 4Runner and other well built and rugged SUV's of that time.
Honestly, I enjoy doing this kind of thing most of all
If I lived near to your business I would definitely check it out.
It made me realise what the difference in mentality was/is
@Scimmia that’s depressing
I have a late S-type diesel Sport, I love it even though it’s an old mans car, it’s a future classic!
Lovely Jaguar S Type you have saved. The V8 is absolutely brilliant. I think you should keep it. Certain cars age gracefully and this is one of them.
Keep it!
I’d happily buy a car off you. You’re fast becoming one of my favourite car you tubers. Genuine and occasionally funny 😉
Well done, im inbetween jags at present (had 5...including a mk II which the S type is modeled after) but always loved that model with the V8.
Very interesting video. A really lovely car. Well done in keeping it from the scrappers.
Car looks stunning Matt, a real classic. In any case it's hard to resist a V8.
Good on you for getting all the work done and giving it a new lease of life. If I had the money I would
I love my S-Type V8. On it's last MOT it got an advisory for a number plate bulb. Naturally I was furious with myself.
Very nice car Matt....well worth keeping on the road
Lovely restoration work! Great video!
That's a lovely car now, Matt. Hope it sells well for you.
I hope so too!
Great work Matt , that car is definitely worth 4.5K to somebody out there and for the work you've had done is great value . ULEZ compliant too !
