That MMC figure is probably the most articulate figure you will ever get. If you ever need a drawing reference, you can probably put it into any pose to help you.
Hey Thew, I was the guy who sent Megatron and Optus, Sorry the prime wasen't for you but I'm glad you loved Megatron Also, the Optimus Prime Cosplay was one I made many years ago, unfortunatly it was breaking apart and i had to scrap it, I still have the Helmet somewhere so part of it still survived
Third-Party Engineers: For my next trick, I will fold up 40 square cm of robot skin into a little solid prism of plastic while using only 30(!) pin hinges! Per side!
To be fair, MMC isn’t usually like that. I’ve definitely had figures that *are* like that, and the spaghetti engineering is annoying, but MMC is actually pretty good about it when it comes to their engineering.
@@InfernalBanana True. I am being a little unfair claiming that it's _all_ 3P engineers. Call it a reaction to be so very spoiled by the amazing designs out there for those who want to have posable and fascinating figures. We do truly live in a golden age for this hobby.
Im tempted to send him my FansToys Motormaster. It was lauded by reviewers like Skullface for being a pinnacle of engineering....took me three hours to get to vehicle and back 😅
With Optus Prominon (MMC Optimus) I think you can pop the hip skirt back in. It’s not the easiest thing, but if you straighten the skirt assembly out and keep it vertical relative to the waist you can slide that peg back in. Did it enough myself to know how to fix it.
My dad recently got a KO of MP Megatron. Watching him try to transform it was an absolute joy. He got fed up with the instructions and asked me to pull up a video. That's a memory that will stay with us forever. And now I want one. (PS, I also have the MP Skywarp. I absolutely LOVE it.)
As someone with limited third party experience (one of which being the pexus version of your optus), I've found that they do feel quite good once you get to know them. And I think that's the point where most breakages happen, during the learning process. I broke the back knee filler pieces out of my own misunderstanding, but aside from that he feels quite durable. They are a kind of special beast, you gotta learn how to play with them on their terms. If you try to force them to play by your rules, they're probably gonna snap. For example, I learned that you gotta bend the knees back, then pull them straight to line up the inner leg piece so it goes in the hole when transforming to alt mode. If they don't slide in, they will cause problems and you won't be able to do it, and if you force it, the little clips will break. Now I know, and hopefully you do too. and also that hip piece will go back in, unless the peg is broken, but I didn't see any remnants in the hole. The fingies on mine don't feel like they're going to snap any time soon, and he does come with a few spares just in case. I have had eris's hand explode on me twice, but that's only because it's not glued together. And I'd much rather pick up the fingers and palm and reassemble the hand, rather than have it snap and I have to replace one of the fingers. I do agree that you don't *need* individual knuckles for each finger, but when it's done well (like on optus, eris, and the big overlord we got) it is quite fun. You sacrifice utility for mobility. You can still hold pretty much anything fairly well if you take the time to get all the fingers in place, but it is hard to get a firm grip on anything that wasn't designed specifically to be held by that figure. However, what you can do instead is a whole lot of fun gestures. You can flip the bird, do the finger circle, thwip webs, the star trek thing, you really have no limit.
You don't know true terror until you try to transform the first MP Megatron, with the trigger split into his lower shins... I've had it for over 20 years now and I've only ever transformed him to gun mode ONCE! I was so terrified that I was going to break something, snap off a tab, or shatter one of the multiple fiddly-as-f*ck hinges on that thing... Trying to figure out the Japanese instructions was a nightmare in itself! Thank you again for everything you do, Thew!
that optus figure’s hip skirt that came off can go back on that same thing happened to me but a shame it isn’t your cup of tea that figure is seriously awesome
Damn Thew, everywhere I look, that Optus Prominon, 3rd party IDW Orion Pax, is sold out or ridiculously expensive. The fact that it's supernaturally articulated always amazes me. I was gonna offer to buy it, but a giveaway IS better!!! Here's hoping!!
Kind of surprised NO 3P, and their obsession with Cartoon Accuracy, hasn't done a Sunbow Megs to overthrow MP Megs. (Considering MP's back looks like a mess) Took 'em awhile to get a good 3P SB Optimus, and even a Soundwave with both cartoon design and toy design as swappable parts.
I have one of the versions of the 3rd party MMC Optus Nox and he is a very, very articulated figure that can pull of just about any pose you can think of! Balanced well and just amazes me. I def want a couple more of the different versions.
For the record, afail, Unleash the Archers didnt use AI to write songs, just to make a music video. The idea was to fit in with the theme of machines/artificial life. Obviously fell flat, band apologized, said they aren't doing anything with AI again. Just wanted to clear that up. Have a great day, man. Keep on keeping on.
I remember that MMC Prime, as it got viral for how posable it is. Especially the previous use of the mold, *Optus Pexus!* That name is definitely the superior 3rd party name 😂👌! Shame the transformation turned you off though. I guess transformations that get complex ain’t for everyone.
I actually own the nemesis version of that Optimus and if you buy it it comes already in robot mode so the guy who sent thew that prime transformed it into truck mode then packed it up. Just Incase anyone's wondering
Thew, the mmc figure has an easier transformation than mp36. Thats the objective truth. the fact that you nearly got the mmc optimus right without a manual shows this. You wouldnt ever been able to transform that megs without a manual.
3:53 For the Unleash the Archers it wasn't song writing but they used AI to make artwork for a music video, according to them they paid the specific artist that the AI was trained on. doesn't look great though.. and even if it's true they paid him its still iffy..

To be honest, I kinda felt a similar way with how they released Missing Link Convoy. Except I wanted the cartoon/anime colors cab with the trailer. (I already owned a G1 toy colors Optimus, but I didn't own any G1 Prime trailers as it was one of the reissues that didn't come with the trailer) But instead of waiting it out and eventually missing out because it ran out of stock, I coughed up the ~$200 USD for both the Missing Link Convoys during the preorder period. And now that I have them both, I actually think I want to keep the toy colors one too because it feels a lot better to transform than my anime colors one. (As in it converts into truck mode way more smoother without any parts getting caught on eachother)
Had a bit of a surge of anxiety when Thew just casual-as-you-please slipped off the silencer from Megatron's barrell XD Maybe they did a running change later, but I remember when it first released that it was super tight and some people pulled off their barrels from the figure while trying to get the silencer off

There's a bit of anxiety about that. You become so protective of it, it may as well be an art statue you find a display for only to seldom ever touch again. It becomes a "serious" toy, instead of a fun little knick knack you can take with you to fiddle with wherever. Can't speak for Thew specifically, but I know I prefer official Generations style figures over third-party, or even official Masterpiece, for pretty much all the reasons I've written. Over the years I've fiddled with stuff like Peru Kill or MP Soundwave, but they seldom ever scratched the itch for me like Legacy United has been doing recently. Origins Wheeljack is terrific, btw. Tldr; it's all subjective. Some people want their collectables to be fancy works of value and engineering, but others just appreciate a fun, simple toy.
I waited years to get my hands on a MP36 I finally got a KO one and within days broke it trying to get 1 of his nappy flaps to move that's really really stiff I could see what was going to happen a mile off if I used to much pressure but I did it anyway !duuuh

That MP Megatron is pretty impressive. Definitely not for me as a collector as I wouldn't have the patience or trust in myself to transform it and not break it. Third party options are an absolute no go as well as sometimes the quality is subpar to an official release and transformations are way to convoluted as demonstrated here to be any real fun despite the articulation. Missing Link Optimus is a neat idea conceptionally but I'm good with the G1 commemorative and be holding out for the 86 movie Commander later in the year. Just circle back on the Megatron, while I have absolutely no problem with him being reimagined as a tank it'll be interesting to see what Hasbro decides to do with his gun for in the upcoming 86 movie release. If not a gun how can they expect to present him accurately to the film.

I've honestly and truly always wanted that mmc optimus since I was released. But I doubt I'll ever get it or mp36 with me being disabled.
On missing link cartoon edition, it allegedly calmed with stickers to make it look more like the toy version. Don’t know if you’re big on stickers.
