I think the biggest thing that blew my mind about having a clean home is that you need to clean your house while it's already clean. It seems silly to wipe a clean counter or baseboard or mop a clean floor but in order to always have a home that looks consistently clean you can't let it get to the point of actually seeing the dirt and dust.
A couple years ago (when she became an empty nester) my mother began decluttering 3 things a day. Sometimes they were big things, other times it was just small receipts or knickknacks. For a few months there wasn’t a visible change, but one day it suddenly started to become apparent. It was crazy what her house looked like after a year. Sometimes she would change the challenge up, and clean out a drawer or shelf. But just the sheer consistency is what did it. It’s important to note that my mom lives with chronic health problems, and this was a doable thing she could manage.
That's awesome! I'm 60 yrs old and started this road to declutter in January 2023. I have made visible progress and it feels great. Makes the house easier to keep clean and I know I'm not going to burden my kids with a lot of stuff when I depart this world. Decluttering has wonderful benefits. I've also discovered I can't handle a lot of visual stimulation. So I keep pictures on walls to a minimum and got rid of the knick knacks. I didn't know I don't like busy patterns. So I have simple curtains on windows. What a life changer decluttering has been for me. I love it! So glad to hear your Mom is doing great in this process. 💕
This is so encouraging! I look at my clutter and feel the impossible. Did your mom start with a drawer here, a room here? Or did she say “I’m going to go through all the receipts I have lying around?”
Don't forget everyone - cleanliness is morally neutral. Having a messy house or finding yourself unable to keep up does not make you a bad person and you should not be ashamed.

The moral overtones just make it More Work! Releasing the judgement takes the sexy element of revolution OUT and makes it just like brushing hair: something we do for ourselves because it's more efficient, attractive, and empowering!
@@mariekastler5391 It's a care task, for yourself. And it's morally neutral. You can do it, and hopefully you do, to treat yourself well - but if you can't do it, that's totally fine. It doesn't change who you are.
My place is a little messy, but I get so overwhelmed with everything. I just had my first baby in January and nearly all my attention has gone to him. My fiance is great with cleaning and moving things around. His Mom came over to help organize and whatnot and I felt so judged and it made me feel so horrible because she kept saying things here and there. She was very helpful but I still felt very judged. When I get to a point of getting used to having a baby, I'm sure I'll be able to work on being more organized, tidy and clean

Funny thing is, my home became a hoarders house the moment I became screen addicted, I bought things online that I didn't need at all, all because I saw hundreds of DIY's videos and advertisements popping up all the time, I always ignored it because I didn't see how bad it was getting until one day I stopped spending so much time on my screen and that's when it hit me😅 now I'm recovering my life, my home and my finances.
Honestly I left all social media platforms (unless you count RUclips as social media) but I'm much more productive because I'm at home with time and have no guilt over not having the perfect life to post

I have been dealing with severe depression lately due to money issues and legal issues related to my boyfriend (arrested 3 weeks ago). 😭😭😭 I have literally been a mess. For 2 weeks I didn't do anything in the kitchen. I literally would cook in one pot and eat with one bowl that I would wash over and over. My floors were literally turning black. But I couldn't face the kitchen as my bf is usually the cook. I ate to survive. A few days ago I finally did some dishes. A small amount, but that was all I could manage. I was trying to get motivated to clean more. But no, dishes soaked in the sink for 2 days. This morning I watched your video and thought... I need to do those dishes and clean that floor. My kitchen is literally a health hazard! So as unmotivated as I was, I put if off and then suddenly it was 11pm. I thought about you and your video. I got up and I did it! I did 99% of the dishes, I cleaned the counter, I swept and mopped. Sure, I didn't do the stove and there are dishes piled high drying now. But, I did it. Thanks ❤️❤️❤️

My one rule of laundry: if it comes out of the dryer, it gets folded/hung right away. My clothes don't have wrinkles, I don't have a (ever growing) pile of clean laundry on top of the dryer, and my cats don't have the chance to deposit more hair on nice, WARM fabric!
I love this! I am a 55 year old grandma and still struggle to keep an organized and clean space! I’ve been following the clean kitchen sink habit for a month or so now with a few missed nights. Seeing that clean sparkly sink in the morning is truly a wonderful start to my day. Thank you 🙏
We had similar rules growing up and I implemented them while I raised my 3 children. We never went to bed with a dirty sink or kitchen. Dishes washed, counters, table and appliances wiped down. Kitchen was swept and spot mopped if that was required. No dirty clothes ever on the floor and living room/den and bedrooms were picked up of anything. My mantra is everything has a place so put it there when done using. That helps keep a tidy home.
One of the things I do is make my bed every morning. My cleaning “ripple effect” started with that one change. As for decluttering, my advice is to not buy more storage boxes, bins, or organizers until you’ve decluttered a specific area or a specific room, and then shop your own house first because you may already have what you need.
It starts the day with a win, and I feel great every time I go in my room. My mom did me a big favor growing up, because we always made our beds, and had daily routines. Growing up in a clean home was wonderful.
Yes - me too. Dress my bed in the first 2 mins of waking up. Then empty dishwasher while kettle is boiling. Once I got these two things down, your then ready to move on to the next few things! As per this video. Love flylady. Shine your sink, even if you’ve to pile your dirty dishes on a tray to the side. As you get satisfaction from that, you’ll naturally move to adding in more things to a routine!! It really works.
@@daisybuchanan5378 I grew up with a clean grandma - as I lived most of my childhood and youth with the grandparents. And while it was easy for me to maintain a certain level of cleanness there (at least when I was a little older) - I suck at doing so in my own much smaller flat. The declutter is something I have never learned, as my grandparents had strong hoarding instincts (both lived through WW II and the aftermath) - so what could be reused stayed. But they did not spend much money. Buying all that knick-knackery and the latest gadgets was not for them. Sadly I failed to learn THAT from them. But yes, making my bed is helpful. I have two cats - and when they get hairballs it is much easier when it is only the top blanket over the duvet I have wash.
I found that I went to bed feeling a lot better knowing the kitchen is clean. Waking up in the morning and going downstairs to a clean and tidy kitchen is a great start to the day. Yesterday, I cleared out the space under thr stairs and the shelving. My house has no storage so that became a storage space. The problem? The stairs are wooden slats you can see through so the stuff stored there was on display. I decluttered that area yesterday, found new places to store certain items and stored the rest of of stuff I was keeping in new boxes that all fit on the shelves leaving the floor COMPLETELY empty. It is such a fantastic feeling to see it now
The "homeblessing" we named "cleaning-party" - we hear motivating music, put snacks on the dining table (only on that day ! not the much healthy versions from everyday life) and my kids got a basket especcially for tidiing theire rooms (1, 4 and 5 years) - so they are easy able to pick up evreything and together or alone put it back where it belongs - so we do it as a family and after that we treat ourselfes with a movie and popcorn and gess what - its tidy and my kids are proud of themselves.
*Bathroom Cleaning* . I adopted the habit of ALWAYS using a squeegee after I shower on the surround and tub. This process has eliminated the majority of hard water deposits and soap scum, two things that make cleaning that area a dreaded task. I also keep a roll of paper towels and a bottle of all purpose cleaner handy in the bathroom, for me, a quick wipe down every three days keeps the space looking fresh.
While taking care of my aunt's place while they were on vacation, my uncle implored me to squeegee after my shower and wipe the fixtures. I adopted it when I came home and it is a game changer! I'm now going to keep a surface cleaner in there with paper towels to adopt Kallie's sink, mirror, toilet seat strategy.
Wow! So I am new to this channel, and going thru major life changes atm. I’m a stay at home mom with a special needs child, divorcing my husband of 21 years who was controlling and kept our lives as chaotic as possible. Everything you said? I’ve tried to teach my son, with my self worth in the rebuilding stages, THANK YOU, for empowering me with things I KNEW to be correct, as I try and bring my son and I into a better place! I’ve been able to keep my place clean and tidy by having individual tasks broken down into what you’re going to do and how long to spend on each task. Otherwise my ADHD takes over and nothing gets completed or I end up procrastinating! Also, perfection is not necessary. Good enough is good enough.
Thank you for this! I am starting this 30 day challenge today. A mantra I've been hearing a lot lately is "the magic is in the mundane" and it's so true! My struggle with tidyness is linked to depression but I've found that sticking to simple sustainable routines are suprisingly powerful in recovery.
@@hsin-yiwang5273 I need to try this again more fully. I really focused on the dishes the first time round and I'm still doing well most days. This may go against the over-entertainment part but I will watch a show on Netflix while doing the dishes after putting the kids to bed. I got some super soft dish cloths and a really nice scented dish soap to make it even more enjoyable. Afterwards I wipe down the counters, prep the coffee machine and make myself a cup of tea. It's a routine I really look forward to each day now :)
Same with me. I've struggled with depression since my husband died 11 years ago. He died quite suddenly, 4 months later his mom died (she was like a mom to me since my mom had dementia), my mom moved in with us, I was a single mom with a 3 year old child to raise and my dear mom to care for, and while I didn't mind, it was harder than I even realized at the time. Then a few years later my cousin, who was one of my very closest friends died. But my house has become the biggest depressing thing in my life, and these videos are very motivational and I believe I am going to pull out of this. WE CAN DO THIS!!!
I don’t reach for RUclips often, I myself am very conscious of rummiging through any form of social media. I have a 3 YO daughter and I don’t want her to see mommy staring at her screen like the majority of our population. Though, I’ve been in a funk these past two weeks. Overwhelmed, stressed, foggy brain- and so I sought out RUclips for some type of answer. I found it. YOUR videos have opened my mind up to all of the right answers and a pathway to clarity once again. I lost my pet cat on February 1st and I’m beyond devastated. I know it might sound silly to a lot of people, but I grew up in a really toxic household where my only relief was playing alone on our acres of land, hanging out with my aunt that also lived with us, or going to my grandparents house. But then my grandparents died and we moved without my aunt into a small house surrounded by neighbors with no where to play and then I got this incredibly sweet cat. He was sooo affectionate. He was always on my chest or shoulder day and night, my mom called him my parrot lmao… We just had an incredible bond and after losing something so extremely important to you, you realize not much else matters at all. My parents and grandparents were hoarders and raised me up with a lot of that mindset so I’m taking this time to purge a lot of my things. It’s distracting and cathartic while also being extremely helpful long term. Especially for when I move again. But I’ve been binge-watching a lot of your videos for tips and inspiration while I go through my things and I really appreciate you. Thank you. ❤️
I thank my Mom for teaching me since a kid - I'm 77! - that ea room has to be kept clean n cleared. She had 7 kids and did this everyday w our help! I also showed my 2 girls how to have a clean, lovely, comfortable house. Thanks Mom!!
@@raychlc5959 I also have 5 kiddos! Only my 12, 7 & 1yr old is at home now. The older 2 are in college! But the 12 & 7 yr old will not take responsibility for their things🤦♀️ We just recently moved into our home & we set strict guidelines for them like keeping their bathroom & rooms clean! No eating anything besides at the table or bar area. Well that lasted maybe a few weeks & now my 7yr old drags out all her toys & things out into our living room area & will not pick up anything! Her room was neatly organized several times by me & now it’s a mess! We set consequences for not following our rules & they do not care!! I’m at my breaking point with all of it. I already have so much on me plus caring for a 1yr old. I wish there was something (ex: challenge) to get them to be more responsible & do their part. I eventually get tired of looking at their messy rooms & just clean/organize again! BUT I know that’s not teaching them anything, but I can’t stand my house to be like that. Also have to say my 2 oldest that are in college right now were way worse!! Destroy their rooms, sneak food & drinks & hide the trash under their beds or wherever they could stick it thinking they were hiding it🤦♀️ Total nightmare! Now these 2 are trying to do the same thing as the oldest ones. I’m the strict parent, my husband is the one they run to when I get onto them about all the things. He’s a main source of the problem also! I just feel like throwing my hands up most days!! The struggle is REAL. If you have any tips or tricks to help me out, I would love to hear them 😊
@@lynseycrittenden5789 My oldest son wouldn't take responsibility, either. After he tripped in his filthy room and got a fishing hook through his finger (before school - just the time you want a trip to the doctor), I took a shovel (literally) to his room and cleared it all out. Everything went except necessities. He still didn't care, because he doesn't become attached to inanimate objects whatsoever, so I periodically cleaned everything out in order to avoid more horrors. I kept this up until he moved out. He's much better now; of course he's 40 and a dad, too.
I tend to be a clean person but live with two slobs…. Over the years I kind of gave up cleaning up after everyone and have let the house get to a cluttered state. Need another video on how to change others’ habits lol!
Are the two slobs family or roommates? I find if I were in this situation.. I’d just have them agree to not use a section that you have sectioned out as YOUR area that’s YOURS that they should NOT TOUCH, table or chairs etc.. or go into, or use 1/3 of the fridge, 1/3 or the kitchen, 1/3 living room, 1/3 bathroom, etc. maybe after seeing how your area is cleaned and theirs is a mess and dirty maybe it’ll help them change to be like that.
I think I would have to move before I lived in other peoples mess. I know sometimes that is impossible. I hope you find help in changing those around you if you do let us know!
I've found that the person who likes to have a neat and tidy home in the relationship/shared space ends up doing most of the work because the other people just don't care what it looks like. Maybe some negotiation to get some help... like others can pick specific chores they'll be responsible for. YOU didn't "let" the house get to a cluttered state..sounds to me like it's the two slobs that are responsible. Just saying.
I think moving and leaving the toxic unclean situation as last resort. Also sometimes I think it’s also the people may not feel they “own” the place or space.. like if I’m honest, I’ve noticed I’m more vested in cleaning my own place & keeping it spotless clean when I’m the person solely on the lease in my days after college or house title now than when I was in dorm college and had to live with a roommate.. And just keep to my side.. or when I’m at say my bf just because I don’t feel it’s my right or responsibility to clean it not does it benefits me much as I’m not living ft there per se.
Preach sister preach!! I love this. Yes to everything you said. The dishes in the sink is my pet peeve. I never go to bed with dishes in the sink. To me, next day dirty dishes is such a disgusting thing. I get so upset when my husband or 14 year old son says… leave it and we will do it, but then I get up the next day and there they are. The disgusting sink. I am sending this to both of them.
Same!!! I'll go to bed knowing my sink is clean, and wake up to a knife with pb or mayo on it from husband making his lunch..a glass...a bowl of he had a snack . The dishwasher is RIGHT THERE!!!
Great tips! I also really like Dana K. White's decluttering method of "progress and only progress" so that when your ten minutes of decluttering are up, you don't have a pile of things you still have to deal with.
when you mentioned people being over entertained...it hit me. you are absolutely right! my phone has become my life and this is not the way things used to be.
Something to add to your weekly routine: Go through the fridge, clearing out any food past its sell-by date. I take 15 minutes or so the evening before Food Waste is collected, checking Best Before labels and looking for anything that needs to be used immediately. I then make my Meal Plan for the coming week based on the food in the fridge, noting on a shopping list any additional ingredients that I need to pick up in order to make the recipes that use the food that I already have. I make a game out of seeing how far I can go toward emptying the fridge each week (with points off for every time I have to throw food away). This way, there are never horrible surprises lurking at the back of the fridge, which can make opening it a malodorous experience! The Meal Plan and shopping list hang on the fridge door with a magnetic bulldog clip so that my son can add any items to the list that he knows we need. Once a year, I go through my cupboards and removing out of date grains and spices, etc.--this is part of my New Year's Day ritual, which feels great to purge the cupboards, making space for the abundance of the coming year.
I also do this before going out of town. Taking a few minutes to clear out the fridge before I leave makes for less work when I get home. Coming home to a clean fridge also makes grocery shopping easier, as I don’t have to cram things into the fridge to put them away.
You do realize that the Sell By date is not the same as the Use By date, right? And if you’re throwing out stuff that looks and smells good post Sell By date is wasting food and money. WRT food staples (not fresh produce or meat/chicken/fish) manufacturers put an arbitrary date of several weeks up to a year, and this date means nothing at all, it is simply a ploy to sell more product.
@@cherylmcnutt9905 95% of the food in my fridge is fresh produce and, as I have had food poisoning more than once from eating food past it's Sell by date, I have learned to be conservative regarding saving food. Having said that, most weeks, I manage to eat everything in tumble down meals so there is only a bit of rocket or lettuce to dump out of the salad spinner. Also, like 25% of people, I have a high sensitivity to mould so need to be vigilant about keeping an eye out for food that has gone 'fuzzy'. Clearing the fridge used to be a chore but now it takes about 5 minutes as most of the food is gone by the time I'm making my Meal Plan for the following week.
I’ve been doing the clean sink and kitchen every night for a few months. I love it! Sometimes I’m tempted to take a night off but I remember how nice the morning is when I come down to a clean kitchen! I used to work with someone who talked about having a ‘chore night’. I thought that was silly but it’s a great idea that would lighten up my weekends. I’m going to try it and hopefully make a new habit. ❤️
Thank you for giving me the freedom to love my small house by reminding me that this small house is a home if tended to. I sometimes ignore parts of my house and just start looking at bigger houses online and begging husband to move. You're spot-on as always! One word of caution for you, Kalli, and all of you out there in But First, Coffee fan land: Don't use cell phones while pumping gas. Could cause ignition of fumes! Don't even get back into your car. Sliding across your seat could produce a static spark and ignite the fumes. There are warnings posted all over our gas pumps here in Indiana. Bizarre-O as this might seem, ignition and fires have happened. Absolutely love this channel. Just want you and all your fans and followers to be safe! :)

Started doing this last week and what a difference it has made! Small goals everyday and I can already see the difference. My kitchen drawers, and pantry, bathroom, utility closet and my son’s room, completely clutter free in 7 days. Aside from my sons room, got all this done 15-20 minutes a day! Couldn’t be happier.
This is my goal that I have been striving for as I am trying to organize and declutter my small house. It got out of control since my health has ups and downs. Got to love surgery and chronic health conditions. Yesterday had a big bag donation to Catholic Charities. Getting the bag out of my house felt great!
I had the "sink" habit before I heard about the Flylady also. We got up from dinner, all 4 of my boys cleared the table and cleaned up the kitchen WITH us! (We also are clean as you go types). Kitchen was always clean when we would start the morning. Although they are not as good about it now! It stresses me if I go to their house and see a sink full if dishes. And I would much rather wash by hand than leave dirty in a dishwasher until it's full! I also have a weekly routine and the first 5 days of the month have extra tasks added. And at 53 they diagnosed me with ADHD!😂😂
The two things from your Tips that changed things for me was keeping the flat surfaces cleared. I set a timer and worked on them at 15 minute increments and within two days it has really changed the feeling of my home. The second thing was the clean sink rule. I’m totally sold on it. Because it has spilled over into the rest of my house and oddly enough it isn’t more work it’s less work. One thing I find is that because I have things in an orderly state, people tend to put Stuff back where it belongs and it has caused everyone in the house to be more tidy.

I have cleaned my kitchen sink every day, thanks to FlyLady. I found her years ago, still waiting for that ripple effect to take hold. My mother cleaned every week, weather it needed to be cleaned or not. I never got it, however my sister did. It seemed like a unsurmountable task. I had a friend, years ago, tell me to take 10 minutes each evening to pick up before I went to bed. I have gotten better about that. It seems so simple but having you break it down into tasks makes it seem doable. Thank you! I will be trying your 30 day challenge.

I have the habit of cleaning dishes every night, tidying surfaces daily and doing short periods of decluttering daily as well. I know I do best when I'm adding one new idea for thirty days. So I'm going to add being home more this month with screen entertainment turned off.

I have found that the clean sink in the morning is SO helpful! My biggest hindrance was- myself; the way I was "encouraging" myself was not encouraging at all. I had to learn how to be positive- to MYSELF!
16:00 I first heard about cleaning the kitchen each night from another RUclipsr. Can't remember who it was, but she calls it "putting the kitchen to bed". I love it! Just like you said, even if you're tired or whatever, it's highly motivating to remind yourself of how great it feels to wake up to a clean kitchen.
I downloaded the ebook "Atomic Habits" and downloaded your freebies but actually about to buy the ebook as well. So far since I watched this video... yesterday... I have kept the kitchen sink clean and empty and I wake up in the morning and I do appreciate it being done every morning. I'm a single mom, with a 6 year old, living in an apartment that use to have another adult... my father, who passed away suddenly last November and the apartment has become a disaster (if I'm being honest it's been a disaster for 2 years cause I tried the Kon Marie method and then life kept happening and before I knew it i had piles everywhere and so much stress) I really enjoy each new video and watching the old ones so I start getting motivated daily to continue changing small habits til they become a way of life.
I loved this vidio. I shared it with my Daughter. 😄 I was a fly lady subscriber when my children were young. I had five and the laundry load was driving me nuts. She helped me a lot. I thought about how just like you she said, "shine that sink! " 🧚♀️ I enjoy your vidios a bit more than reading the emails back then.
I’m working on being more tidy, spending less, and only keeping what I love. The mantra about dishes reminds me of the phrase that’s keeping me going in trying to change. “My future self will thank me.”
WOW - I have started implementing all of these tips and I am AMAZED! I can't believe it when I scan my home during the day and see a clean home with shiny counters and no clutter piled up on the dining room table. My bedside tables and dresser are always dust free and everything is put away. I used to clean once a week and then feel totally betrayed when my house looked like a bomb hit it 2 hours later. Doing a few 10 minute stints throughout the day keeps it looking in tip-top shape all day. Anyone can stop in at any time and I won't feel any "house shame". I am naturally messy, but I love order. Thanks so much, this has literally changed my life!

I am clean by nature, and continually do all of this already. So I love whenever I watch your cleaning videos, it gives me motivation to tackle a chore. So today while watching/listening to this video I put new sheets on the bed, brought out the trash for pickup tomorrow, and cleaned the toilet bowl. Thanks for the boost Kallie! 😀
The cleaning for 10 minutes fits right in with with flylady zones in the home. This week is week two ...the kitchen ...So this week any 10 minute cleaning will be in the kitchen. It is a huge help to clean in small chunks in one area. Next week bedrooms etc. Another fly lady young mom has lists for zone cleaning ..The Secret Slob ALL you young moms inspire me, a grandmother of 25! Homemaking always changes and it's fun to learn new skills!

Thank you so much for this! I started this challenge the day after you posted this video. I’ve developed the habits that you talked about. Now, my home is noticeably different. I feel better, and my house looks so much better. I have a super small house and 7 people live in it (my 5 sons, husband, and me). I felt so overwhelmed about organization, because I felt like it all had to be done at once. I’ve learned that by breaking things up into 10 minute chores, here and there, I do have enough time to stay on top of things.
I did flylady for a few weeks, and while it did work, it was just too much for me and I gave up. I like your system, it’s like a simplified flylady. I also like the idea of setting a timer and just doing what you can in 10 minutes. Everyone has 10 minutes to spare in their day. Thank you for this video, I’ll be trying your 30 day challenge :)
When women say that Flylady was "too much," it always means (always) that they misunderstood it. Flylady is a 15 minute morning routine, a 15 minute evening routine, one 15 minute period cleaning in one zone of your home, and a one-hour Weekly Home Blessing that can be broken up into 10-minute periods. It is literally the shortest housekeeping routine in existence. The thing is, if you set your timer for a ten-minute task and you aren't "done," you stop anyway. You don't work beyond the time. You can always pick up tomorrow where you left off.
Great advice…..one thing that I have come to learn over my yrs of learning how to be more organized, is to have a home for everything. It really helps with the daily decluttering process….if it has a home, it’s a lot easier to put away, while if it doesn’t, I find you either just stuff everything in a draw which really is just move the clutter from one spot to another.
I really came into your video thinking i already know this stuff but decided to watch it all the way through anyway and so glad that I did!!! A bunch of light bulbs went off, especially the phone part of being entertained all the time. Thank you for sharing and I will definitely take a lot from this video.
The over entertained situation is just mind blowing. So true! I have enjoyed staying home and really enjoying my living space. My friends and I pick one Sunday a month and go to brunch instead of going out all the time. You have such great content! Start small, one space at a time. It can be done! Committing to a general (not super detailed) weekly clean like you talked about has really made a difference to the overall time I spend cleaning. Surfaces and areas don’t take near as long to clean when I do a bit each week. Also having decluttered so much in recent years also makes it easier to clean. Spaces that have less stuff in them are so much easier to maintain. Great video!
I am going to start with the clean sink habit. One small step. And the daily decluttering though I am setting my self a goal each day of one drawer or one cupboard, doing it by container not by time as it gives a feeling of accomplishment.
Definitely a skill to be learned! I was a hot mess until I had 3 kids 😆😆 It took doing the dishes every day and creating a laundry system. Wish I would have started sooner!!

I’ve watched you for a long time, your ideas really work! My favorite is doing something today that tomorrow you will be thankful for! I watch some of these videos several times, especially the shorts, for inspiration. I used to be a lot neater but over the years things kept coming up that messed up my good habits. I used to clean some throughout the week, and then if I got behind, I would spend most of a Saturday cleaning and decluttering until after midnight. I didn’t mind it at all. But that was in my twenties!! I’m in my 50’s now and don’t have the energy for that lol. Kallie’s videos really inspire me and she’s so fun to watch.

I've only been at this a couple of days, but decided today was the day to do the Weekly 1-hour clean; which turned into more and I feel accomplished! I am that overly entertained, under motivated person who thinks every night that the house fairies are coming to take care of the house...I believe that the pandemic had a lot to do with it. I went through the closets, drawers, etc, and got the place in order. Now I've just gotten increasingly frustrated with my lack of desire to get back into it. Thank you Kallie, this all sounds doable. I’ve seen a few vids about, or featuring The Fly Lady, but it’s all rather intimidating. However you itemised and broke down the lists so they’re not overwhelming. I really like your adaptions. One thing nobody has ever mentioned afaik-if your family is going out, if one person (including children) is dressed and ready significantly earlier than others, they do some tidying or housework-non messy stuff. Even if it’s only three or five minutes, something can get done. Empty wastebaskets, put away some washing, or put a load on to wash while you’re out…there’s countless tasks, and because you start from a less than five minute time, they won’t whinge, or only a little. Obviously you need tasks that will let them stay presentable!
I'm not sure if that would motivate some to NOT be ready early - they would get extra 'chores'. Perhaps if they are more mature they would appreciate the benefit.
Clutterbug RUclipsr is awesome too!! She's reason I decluttered like I did and got rid of things. This reminds me of her. I feel less stressed with my house because of it. But I love your ideas too!
The stupid kitchen sink lol I know a dirty sink in the morning puts me in a bad mood and yet I still seem to leave the sink dirty to deal with in the morning. Definitely love how you say to start small with the clean sink! This means for me dishes cleaned/loaded in dishwasher and 100% builds momentum to be more tidy! I found the flylady system and then made it my own! But my morning and evening routines have been the most lifechanging ingredient!
You were talking and I thought "this is the FlyLady system", and then you said it. Breaking down the routines is so helpful. And the more you do it, it seems the deeper and deeper you get.
What I do is “10% change”! I try and do a project everyday that results in 10% change. Hard to quantify exactly what 10% is, but the real goal is to do something everyday. Whether it’s clean or a project to better my home. I love it. It is flexible and I’m like allergic to schedules. So perfect for me and keeps me motivated. I always feel accomplished even if I dont do everything needing done. I’m just glad I did something!
I like the structure of this plan and I will be taking the 30 challenge. My issue is that my partner and I are on slightly different schedules. Also he’s often more of the mess maker and clutter doesn’t seem to bug him. Haha So something like me cleaning the sink after I get ready won’t be that helpful because when he gets up later he will then be messing up the sink. So I will likely tweek some of the timing. But excited to try and make some new habits for keeping my house clean. I also have followed a verse of the clean sink system for years.
I’m with you on the entertainment, I love being without it but lately I’ve been stuck to my phone but truly it’s helping me so much to declutter, I just put one of yours or one of the other Mama yourtubers playlists and go nuts! You inspire me so much! I’m on the decluttering journey because since becoming a mom I’ve totally been overwhelmed by regular life and haven’t done anything for myself. I think the biggest thing that blew my mind about having a clean home is that you need to clean your house while it's already clean. It seems silly to wipe a clean counter or baseboard or mop a clean floor but in order to always have a home that looks consistently clean you can't let it get to the point of actually seeing the dirt and dust.

A couple years ago (when she became an empty nester) my mother began decluttering 3 things a day. Sometimes they were big things, other times it was just small receipts or knickknacks. For a few months there wasn’t a visible change, but one day it suddenly started to become apparent. It was crazy what her house looked like after a year. Sometimes she would change the challenge up, and clean out a drawer or shelf. But just the sheer consistency is what did it. It’s important to note that my mom lives with chronic health problems, and this was a doable thing she could manage.
That's awesome! I'm 60 yrs old and started this road to declutter in January 2023. I have made visible progress and it feels great. Makes the house easier to keep clean and I know I'm not going to burden my kids with a lot of stuff when I depart this world. Decluttering has wonderful benefits. I've also discovered I can't handle a lot of visual stimulation. So I keep pictures on walls to a minimum and got rid of the knick knacks. I didn't know I don't like busy patterns. So I have simple curtains on windows. What a life changer decluttering has been for me. I love it! So glad to hear your Mom is doing great in this process. 💕

My place is a little messy, but I get so overwhelmed with everything. I just had my first baby in January and nearly all my attention has gone to him. My fiance is great with cleaning and moving things around. His Mom came over to help organize and whatnot and I felt so judged and it made me feel so horrible because she kept saying things here and there. She was very helpful but I still felt very judged. When I get to a point of getting used to having a baby, I'm sure I'll be able to work on being more organized, tidy and clean

Funny thing is, my home became a hoarders house the moment I became screen addicted, I bought things online that I didn't need at all, all because I saw hundreds of DIY's videos and advertisements popping up all the time, I always ignored it because I didn't see how bad it was getting until one day I stopped spending so much time on my screen and that's when it hit me😅 now I'm recovering my life, my home and my finances.
Honestly I left all social media platforms (unless you count RUclips as social media) but I'm much more productive because I'm at home with time and have no guilt over not having the perfect life to post
I've taken to switching my phone off and putting it somewhere not easliy accessible. Only way I can stop looking at it constantly !

I have been dealing with severe depression lately due to money issues and legal issues related to my boyfriend (arrested 3 weeks ago). 😭😭😭 I have literally been a mess. For 2 weeks I didn't do anything in the kitchen. I literally would cook in one pot and eat with one bowl that I would wash over and over. My floors were literally turning black. But I couldn't face the kitchen as my bf is usually the cook. I ate to survive. A few days ago I finally did some dishes. A small amount, but that was all I could manage. I was trying to get motivated to clean more. But no, dishes soaked in the sink for 2 days.
This morning I watched your video and thought... I need to do those dishes and clean that floor. My kitchen is literally a health hazard! So as unmotivated as I was, I put if off and then suddenly it was 11pm. I thought about you and your video. I got up and I did it! I did 99% of the dishes, I cleaned the counter, I swept and mopped. Sure, I didn't do the stove and there are dishes piled high drying now. But, I did it.

My one rule of laundry: if it comes out of the dryer, it gets folded/hung right away. My clothes don't have wrinkles, I don't have a (ever growing) pile of clean laundry on top of the dryer, and my cats don't have the chance to deposit more hair on nice, WARM fabric!

I’m 74 & have even more junk than I did in my 50’s. Don’t put off cuz it never gets easier.
I always forget people are grandmothers at 55!! That seems so young to me, although that could be because my parents had their first kid at 40.
We had similar rules growing up and I implemented them while I raised my 3 children. We never went to bed with a dirty sink or kitchen. Dishes washed, counters, table and appliances wiped down. Kitchen was swept and spot mopped if that was required. No dirty clothes ever on the floor and living room/den and bedrooms were picked up of anything. My mantra is everything has a place so put it there when done using. That helps keep a tidy home.
One of the things I do is make my bed every morning. My cleaning “ripple effect” started with that one change.
As for decluttering, my advice is to not buy more storage boxes, bins, or organizers until you’ve decluttered a specific area or a specific room, and then shop your own house first because you may already have what you need.
A made bed is the bedroom's version of a clean and shiny sink haha. Once I made the bed, I want the rest of the room to match how nice it looks :-)
It starts the day with a win, and I feel great every time I go in my room. My mom did me a big favor growing up, because we always made our beds, and had daily routines. Growing up in a clean home was wonderful.
Yes - me too. Dress my bed in the first 2 mins of waking up.
Then empty dishwasher while kettle is boiling.
Once I got these two things down, your then ready to move on to the next few things! As per this video.
Love flylady. Shine your sink, even if you’ve to pile your dirty dishes on a tray to the side. As you get satisfaction from that, you’ll naturally move to adding in more things to a routine!! It really works.

@@daisybuchanan5378 I grew up with a clean grandma - as I lived most of my childhood and youth with the grandparents. And while it was easy for me to maintain a certain level of cleanness there (at least when I was a little older) - I suck at doing so in my own much smaller flat. The declutter is something I have never learned, as my grandparents had strong hoarding instincts (both lived through WW II and the aftermath) - so what could be reused stayed. But they did not spend much money. Buying all that knick-knackery and the latest gadgets was not for them. Sadly I failed to learn THAT from them.
But yes, making my bed is helpful. I have two cats - and when they get hairballs it is much easier when it is only the top blanket over the duvet I have wash.
I found that I went to bed feeling a lot better knowing the kitchen is clean. Waking up in the morning and going downstairs to a clean and tidy kitchen is a great start to the day.
Yesterday, I cleared out the space under thr stairs and the shelving. My house has no storage so that became a storage space. The problem? The stairs are wooden slats you can see through so the stuff stored there was on display. I decluttered that area yesterday, found new places to store certain items and stored the rest of of stuff I was keeping in new boxes that all fit on the shelves leaving the floor COMPLETELY empty. It is such a fantastic feeling to see it now
The "homeblessing" we named "cleaning-party" - we hear motivating music, put snacks on the dining table (only on that day ! not the much healthy versions from everyday life) and my kids got a basket especcially for tidiing theire rooms (1, 4 and 5 years) - so they are easy able to pick up evreything and together or alone put it back where it belongs - so we do it as a family and after that we treat ourselfes with a movie and popcorn and gess what - its tidy and my kids are proud of themselves.
I love the idea of a 'cleaning party'. It certainly puts a positive spin on that habit.
*Bathroom Cleaning* . I adopted the habit of ALWAYS using a squeegee after I shower on the surround and tub. This process has eliminated the majority of hard water deposits and soap scum, two things that make cleaning that area a dreaded task. I also keep a roll of paper towels and a bottle of all purpose cleaner handy in the bathroom, for me, a quick wipe down every three days keeps the space looking fresh.
While taking care of my aunt's place while they were on vacation, my uncle implored me to squeegee after my shower and wipe the fixtures. I adopted it when I came home and it is a game changer! I'm now going to keep a surface cleaner in there with paper towels to adopt Kallie's sink, mirror, toilet seat strategy.
I steam cleaned my shower and then sprayed it with car wax. Wiped it down and now the water repels. We will see if this helps.

Wow! So I am new to this channel, and going thru major life changes atm. I’m a stay at home mom with a special needs child, divorcing my husband of 21 years who was controlling and kept our lives as chaotic as possible. Everything you said? I’ve tried to teach my son, with my self worth in the rebuilding stages, THANK YOU, for empowering me with things I KNEW to be correct, as I try and bring my son and I into a better place! I’ve been able to keep my place clean and tidy by having individual tasks broken down into what you’re going to do and how long to spend on each task. Otherwise my ADHD takes over and nothing gets completed or I end up procrastinating! Also, perfection is not necessary. Good enough is good enough.

My struggle with tidyness is linked to depression but I've found that sticking to simple sustainable routines are suprisingly powerful in recovery.

@@hsin-yiwang5273 I need to try this again more fully. I really focused on the dishes the first time round and I'm still doing well most days. This may go against the over-entertainment part but I will watch a show on Netflix while doing the dishes after putting the kids to bed. I got some super soft dish cloths and a really nice scented dish soap to make it even more enjoyable. Afterwards I wipe down the counters, prep the coffee machine and make myself a cup of tea. It's a routine I really look forward to each day now :)
This is so true. Depression gets worse the less you do, and the more you do the more likely you are to pull yourself out of it
Same with me. I've struggled with depression since my husband died 11 years ago. He died quite suddenly, 4 months later his mom died (she was like a mom to me since my mom had dementia), my mom moved in with us, I was a single mom with a 3 year old child to raise and my dear mom to care for, and while I didn't mind, it was harder than I even realized at the time. Then a few years later my cousin, who was one of my very closest friends died. But my house has become the biggest depressing thing in my life, and these videos are very motivational and I believe I am going to pull out of this. WE CAN DO THIS!!!
I don’t reach for RUclips often, I myself am very conscious of rummiging through any form of social media. I have a 3 YO daughter and I don’t want her to see mommy staring at her screen like the majority of our population. Though, I’ve been in a funk these past two weeks. Overwhelmed, stressed, foggy brain- and so I sought out RUclips for some type of answer. I found it. YOUR videos have opened my mind up to all of the right answers and a pathway to clarity once again. I lost my pet cat on February 1st and I’m beyond devastated. I know it might sound silly to a lot of people, but I grew up in a really toxic household where my only relief was playing alone on our acres of land, hanging out with my aunt that also lived with us, or going to my grandparents house. But then my grandparents died and we moved without my aunt into a small house surrounded by neighbors with no where to play and then I got this incredibly sweet cat. He was sooo affectionate. He was always on my chest or shoulder day and night, my mom called him my parrot lmao… We just had an incredible bond and after losing something so extremely important to you, you realize not much else matters at all. My parents and grandparents were hoarders and raised me up with a lot of that mindset so I’m taking this time to purge a lot of my things. It’s distracting and cathartic while also being extremely helpful long term. Especially for when I move again. But I’ve been binge-watching a lot of your videos for tips and inspiration while I go through my things and I really appreciate you. Thank you. ❤️
I thank my Mom for teaching me since a kid - I'm 77! - that ea room has to be kept clean n cleared. She had 7 kids and did this everyday w our help! I also showed my 2 girls how to have a clean, lovely, comfortable house. Thanks Mom!!

But the 12 & 7 yr old will not take responsibility for their things🤦♀️ We just recently moved into our home & we set strict guidelines for them like keeping their bathroom & rooms clean! No eating anything besides at the table or bar area. Well that lasted maybe a few weeks & now my 7yr old drags out all her toys & things out into our living room area & will not pick up anything! Her room was neatly organized several times by me & now it’s a mess! We set consequences for not following our rules & they do not care!! I’m at my breaking point with all of it. I already have so much on me plus caring for a 1yr old. I wish there was something (ex: challenge) to get them to be more responsible & do their part. I eventually get tired of looking at their messy rooms & just clean/organize again! BUT I know that’s not teaching them anything, but I can’t stand my house to be like that. Also have to say my 2 oldest that are in college right now were way worse!! Destroy their rooms, sneak food & drinks & hide the trash under their beds or wherever they could stick it thinking they were hiding it🤦♀️ Total nightmare! Now these 2 are trying to do the same thing as the oldest ones. I’m the strict parent, my husband is the one they run to when I get onto them about all the things. He’s a main source of the problem also! I just feel like throwing my hands up most days!! The struggle is REAL. If you have any tips or tricks to help me out, I would love to hear them 😊
@@lynseycrittenden5789 My oldest son wouldn't take responsibility, either. After he tripped in his filthy room and got a fishing hook through his finger (before school - just the time you want a trip to the doctor), I took a shovel (literally) to his room and cleared it all out. Everything went except necessities. He still didn't care, because he doesn't become attached to inanimate objects whatsoever, so I periodically cleaned everything out in order to avoid more horrors. I kept this up until he moved out. He's much better now; of course he's 40 and a dad, too.
I tend to be a clean person but live with two slobs…. Over the years I kind of gave up cleaning up after everyone and have let the house get to a cluttered state. Need another video on how to change others’ habits lol!

I’d just have them agree to not use a section that you have sectioned out as YOUR area that’s YOURS that they should NOT TOUCH, table or chairs etc.. or go into, or use 1/3 of the fridge, 1/3 or the kitchen, 1/3 living room, 1/3 bathroom, etc. maybe after seeing how your area is cleaned and theirs is a mess and dirty maybe it’ll help them change to be like that.
I think I would have to move before I lived in other peoples mess. I know sometimes that is impossible. I hope you find help in changing those around you if you do let us know!
I've found that the person who likes to have a neat and tidy home in the relationship/shared space ends up doing most of the work because the other people just don't care what it looks like. Maybe some negotiation to get some help... like others can pick specific chores they'll be responsible for. YOU didn't "let" the house get to a cluttered state..sounds to me like it's the two slobs that are responsible. Just saying.
I think moving and leaving the toxic unclean situation as last resort.
Also sometimes I think it’s also the people may not feel they “own” the place or space.. like if I’m honest, I’ve noticed I’m more vested in cleaning my own place & keeping it spotless clean when I’m the person solely on the lease in my days after college or house title now than when I was in dorm college and had to live with a roommate..
And just keep to my side.. or when I’m at say my bf just because I don’t feel it’s my right or responsibility to clean it not does it benefits me much as I’m not living ft there per se.
Preach sister preach!! I love this. Yes to everything you said. The dishes in the sink is my pet peeve. I never go to bed with dishes in the sink. To me, next day dirty dishes is such a disgusting thing. I get so upset when my husband or 14 year old son says… leave it and we will do it, but then I get up the next day and there they are. The disgusting sink. I am sending this to both of them.
Same!!! I'll go to bed knowing my sink is clean, and wake up to a knife with pb or mayo on it from husband making his lunch..a glass...a bowl of he had a snack . The dishwasher is RIGHT THERE!!!

Great tips! I also really like Dana K. White's decluttering method of "progress and only progress" so that when your ten minutes of decluttering are up, you don't have a pile of things you still have to deal with.
when you mentioned people being over entertained...it hit me. you are absolutely right! my phone has become my life and this is not the way things used to be.
Something to add to your weekly routine: Go through the fridge, clearing out any food past its sell-by date. I take 15 minutes or so the evening before Food Waste is collected, checking Best Before labels and looking for anything that needs to be used immediately. I then make my Meal Plan for the coming week based on the food in the fridge, noting on a shopping list any additional ingredients that I need to pick up in order to make the recipes that use the food that I already have. I make a game out of seeing how far I can go toward emptying the fridge each week (with points off for every time I have to throw food away). This way, there are never horrible surprises lurking at the back of the fridge, which can make opening it a malodorous experience! The Meal Plan and shopping list hang on the fridge door with a magnetic bulldog clip so that my son can add any items to the list that he knows we need. Once a year, I go through my cupboards and removing out of date grains and spices, etc.--this is part of my New Year's Day ritual, which feels great to purge the cupboards, making space for the abundance of the coming year.
I also do this before going out of town. Taking a few minutes to clear out the fridge before I leave makes for less work when I get home. Coming home to a clean fridge also makes grocery shopping easier, as I don’t have to cram things into the fridge to put them away.
Buy less to avoid all that.

You do realize that the Sell By date is not the same as the Use By date, right? And if you’re throwing out stuff that looks and smells good post Sell By date is wasting food and money.
WRT food staples (not fresh produce or meat/chicken/fish) manufacturers put an arbitrary date of several weeks up to a year, and this date means nothing at all, it is simply a ploy to sell more product.
@@cherylmcnutt9905 95% of the food in my fridge is fresh produce and, as I have had food poisoning more than once from eating food past it's Sell by date, I have learned to be conservative regarding saving food. Having said that, most weeks, I manage to eat everything in tumble down meals so there is only a bit of rocket or lettuce to dump out of the salad spinner. Also, like 25% of people, I have a high sensitivity to mould so need to be vigilant about keeping an eye out for food that has gone 'fuzzy'. Clearing the fridge used to be a chore but now it takes about 5 minutes as most of the food is gone by the time I'm making my Meal Plan for the following week.
I'm always tidy and declutted but it's the bigger jobs that get me. Cleaning windows, blinds, washing floors. Really have to be motivated.
I’ve been doing the clean sink and kitchen every night for a few months. I love it! Sometimes I’m tempted to take a night off but I remember how nice the morning is when I come down to a clean kitchen! I used to work with someone who talked about having a ‘chore night’. I thought that was silly but it’s a great idea that would lighten up my weekends. I’m going to try it and hopefully make a new habit. ❤️
I was doing it for quite awhile. However, I got sick and let parts of it slide for a couple of weeks. Now I have to start over.

I sometimes ignore parts of my house and just start looking at bigger houses online and begging husband to move. One word of caution for you, Kalli, and all of you out there in But First, Coffee fan land: Don't use cell phones while pumping gas. Could cause ignition of fumes! Don't even get back into your car. Sliding across your seat could produce a static spark and ignite the fumes. There are warnings posted all over our gas pumps here in Indiana. Bizarre-O as this might seem, ignition and fires have happened. Absolutely love this channel. Just want you and all your fans and followers to be safe! :)
This is an urban legend but it is definitely advised to stay with your car while you’re pumping gas

Started doing this last week and what a difference it has made! Small goals everyday and I can already see the difference. My kitchen drawers, and pantry, bathroom, utility closet and my son’s room, completely clutter free in 7 days. Aside from my sons room, got all this done 15-20 minutes a day! Couldn’t be happier.
This is my goal that I have been striving for as I am trying to organize and declutter my small house. It got out of control since my health has ups and downs. Got to love surgery and chronic health conditions. Yesterday had a big bag donation to Catholic Charities. Getting the bag out of my house felt great!
Watching this in bed before I go to sleep. I guess I’ll wash my dishes in the morning, lol! Starting tomorrow!
We have been doing the clean kitchen sink every night rule for about 3.5 years and it definitely has had a general ripple effect for us.
I had the "sink" habit before I heard about the Flylady also. We got up from dinner, all 4 of my boys cleared the table and cleaned up the kitchen WITH us! (We also are clean as you go types). Kitchen was always clean when we would start the morning. Although they are not as good about it now! It stresses me if I go to their house and see a sink full if dishes. And I would much rather wash by hand than leave dirty in a dishwasher until it's full! I also have a weekly routine and the first 5 days of the month have extra tasks added. And at 53 they diagnosed me with ADHD!😂😂
The two things from your Tips that changed things for me was keeping the flat surfaces cleared. I set a timer and worked on them at 15 minute increments and within two days it has really changed the feeling of my home. The second thing was the clean sink rule. I’m totally sold on it. Because it has spilled over into the rest of my house and oddly enough it isn’t more work it’s less work. One thing I find is that because I have things in an orderly state, people tend to put Stuff back where it belongs and it has caused everyone in the house to be more tidy.

I have cleaned my kitchen sink every day, thanks to FlyLady. I found her years ago, still waiting for that ripple effect to take hold. My mother cleaned every week, weather it needed to be cleaned or not. I never got it, however my sister did. It seemed like a unsurmountable task. I had a friend, years ago, tell me to take 10 minutes each evening to pick up before I went to bed. I have gotten better about that. I have the habit of cleaning dishes every night, tidying surfaces daily and doing short periods of decluttering daily as well. I know I do best when I'm adding one new idea for thirty days. So I'm going to add being home more this month with screen entertainment turned off.

I have found that the clean sink in the morning is SO helpful! My biggest hindrance was- myself; the way I was "encouraging" myself was not encouraging at all. I had to learn how to be positive- to MYSELF!
16:00 I first heard about cleaning the kitchen each night from another RUclipsr. Can't remember who it was, but she calls it "putting the kitchen to bed". I love it! Just like you said, even if you're tired or whatever, it's highly motivating to remind yourself of how great it feels to wake up to a clean kitchen.

I downloaded the ebook "Atomic Habits" and downloaded your freebies but actually about to buy the ebook as well. So far since I watched this video... yesterday... I have kept the kitchen sink clean and empty and I wake up in the morning and I do appreciate it being done every morning.
I'm a single mom, with a 6 year old, living in an apartment that use to have another adult... my father, who passed away suddenly last November and the apartment has become a disaster (if I'm being honest it's been a disaster for 2 years cause I tried the Kon Marie method and then life kept happening and before I knew it i had piles everywhere and so much stress)
I really enjoy each new video and watching the old ones so I start getting motivated daily to continue changing small habits til they become a way of life.

I’m working on being more tidy, spending less, and only keeping what I love. The mantra about dishes reminds me of the phrase that’s keeping me going in trying to change. “My future self will thank me.”

WOW - I have started implementing all of these tips and I am AMAZED! I can't believe it when I scan my home during the day and see a clean home with shiny counters and no clutter piled up on the dining room table. My bedside tables and dresser are always dust free and everything is put away. I used to clean once a week and then feel totally betrayed when my house looked like a bomb hit it 2 hours later. Doing a few 10 minute stints throughout the day keeps it looking in tip-top shape all day. Anyone can stop in at any time and I won't feel any "house shame". I am naturally messy, but I love order. Thanks so much, this has literally changed my life!

I am clean by nature, and continually do all of this already. So I love whenever I watch your cleaning videos, it gives me motivation to tackle a chore. The cleaning for 10 minutes fits right in with with flylady zones in the home. This week is week two ...the kitchen ...So this week any 10 minute cleaning will be in the kitchen. It is a huge help to clean in small chunks in one area. Next week bedrooms etc. Another fly lady young mom has lists for zone cleaning ..The Secret Slob ALL you young moms inspire me, a grandmother of 25! Homemaking always changes and it's fun to learn new skills!

Thank you so much for this! I started this challenge the day after you posted this video. I’ve developed the habits that you talked about. Now, my home is noticeably different. I feel better, and my house looks so much better. I have a super small house and 7 people live in it (my 5 sons, husband, and me). I felt so overwhelmed about organization, because I felt like it all had to be done at once. I’ve learned that by breaking things up into 10 minute chores, here and there, I do have enough time to stay on top of things.
I did flylady for a few weeks, and while it did work, it was just too much for me and I gave up. I like your system, it’s like a simplified flylady. I also like the idea of setting a timer and just doing what you can in 10 minutes. Everyone has 10 minutes to spare in their day. Thank you for this video, I’ll be trying your 30 day challenge :)

When women say that Flylady was "too much," it always means (always) that they misunderstood it. Flylady is a 15 minute morning routine, a 15 minute evening routine, one 15 minute period cleaning in one zone of your home, and a one-hour Weekly Home Blessing that can be broken up into 10-minute periods. It is literally the shortest housekeeping routine in existence. The thing is, if you set your timer for a ten-minute task and you aren't "done," you stop anyway. You don't work beyond the time. You can always pick up tomorrow where you left off.

Great advice…..one thing that I have come to learn over my yrs of learning how to be more organized, is to have a home for everything. It really helps with the daily decluttering process….if it has a home, it’s a lot easier to put away, while if it doesn’t, I find you either just stuff everything in a draw which really is just move the clutter from one spot to another.
I really came into your video thinking i already know this stuff but decided to watch it all the way through anyway and so glad that I did!!! The over entertained situation is just mind blowing. So true! I have enjoyed staying home and really enjoying my living space. Committing to a general (not super detailed) weekly clean like you talked about has really made a difference to the overall time I spend cleaning. Surfaces and areas don’t take near as long to clean when I do a bit each week. Also having decluttered so much in recent years also makes it easier to clean. Spaces that have less stuff in them are so much easier to maintain. Great video!
I am going to start with the clean sink habit. One small step. And the daily decluttering though I am setting my self a goal each day of one drawer or one cupboard, doing it by container not by time as it gives a feeling of accomplishment.

I watch some of these videos several times, especially the shorts, for inspiration. I used to be a lot neater but over the years things kept coming up that messed up my good habits. I used to clean some throughout the week, and then if I got behind, I would spend most of a Saturday cleaning and decluttering until after midnight. I didn’t mind it at all. But that was in my twenties!! I’m in my 50’s now and don’t have the energy for that lol. Kallie’s videos really inspire me and she’s so fun to watch.

I am that overly entertained, under motivated person who thinks every night that the house fairies are coming to take care of the house...I believe that the pandemic had a lot to do with it. I went through the closets, drawers, etc, and got the place in order. Now I've just gotten increasingly frustrated with my lack of desire to get back into it. This video has given me the push to get back on the horse and plow through the smallest of details and really get back into loving my home and take pride in it ... Thank You Kallie❤
Thank you Kallie, this all sounds doable. I’ve seen a few vids about, or featuring The Fly Lady, but it’s all rather intimidating. However you itemised and broke down the lists so they’re not overwhelming. I really like your adaptions.
One thing nobody has ever mentioned afaik-if your family is going out, if one person (including children) is dressed and ready significantly earlier than others, they do some tidying or housework-non messy stuff. Even if it’s only three or five minutes, something can get done. Empty wastebaskets, put away some washing, or put a load on to wash while you’re out…there’s countless tasks, and because you start from a less than five minute time, they won’t whinge, or only a little. Obviously you need tasks that will let them stay presentable!
I'm not sure if that would motivate some to NOT be ready early - they would get extra 'chores'. Perhaps if they are more mature they would appreciate the benefit.
Clutterbug RUclipsr is awesome too!! She's reason I decluttered like I did and got rid of things. This reminds me of her. I feel less stressed with my house because of it. But I love your ideas too!

I found the flylady system and then made it my own! But my morning and evening routines have been the most lifechanging ingredient!
You were talking and I thought "this is the FlyLady system", and then you said it. Breaking down the routines is so helpful. And the more you do it, it seems the deeper and deeper you get.
What I do is “10% change”! I try and do a project everyday that results in 10% change. Hard to quantify exactly what 10% is, but the real goal is to do something everyday. Whether it’s clean or a project to better my home. I love it. It is flexible and I’m like allergic to schedules. So perfect for me and keeps me motivated. I always feel accomplished even if I dont do everything needing done. I’m just glad I did something!

I like the structure of this plan and I will be taking the 30 challenge. My issue is that my partner and I are on slightly different schedules. Also he’s often more of the mess maker and clutter doesn’t seem to bug him. Haha So something like me cleaning the sink after I get ready won’t be that helpful because when he gets up later he will then be messing up the sink. So I will likely tweek some of the timing. But excited to try and make some new habits for keeping my house clean. I also have followed a verse of the clean sink system for years.
He will eventually come along to enjoying a cleaner home

I’m with you on the entertainment, I love being without it but lately I’ve been stuck to my phone but truly it’s helping me so much to declutter, I just put one of yours or one of the other Mama yourtubers playlists and go nuts! You inspire me so much! I’m on the decluttering journey because since becoming a mom I’ve totally been overwhelmed by regular life and haven’t done anything for myself.
