I woke up today feeling the urge to find more information on IFS and healing a mother wound. My first thought when entering RUclips was “I wish almost 30 had an episode on this” I found another video and started listening. Somehow, a few minutes into the other video, I accidentally clicked the next which ended up being this episode. So thankful for this! ❤️‍🔥

I feel very seen in this testimony because talking about my hurt in my family and setting boundaries of no yelling etc in my family has totally backfired and I jus have to cope with that. Thank you so much Dr. Webster.

I think many feel a deep loyalty to their mothers, either because they saw her struggle and "suffer"and suffer for "you as the children",sacrifice her own unconscious desires and aspirations and silently hate her children for it,resent them, maybe even resent them for having to marry a man she didn't love due to social pressures etc
I think I idealise my mother and thought I owed her everything, that she had given "everything of herself"when now I see clearly she hadn't,she'd just played the eternal victim and took zero responsibility for say an unhappy marriage or not seeing her own faults and inadequacies and simply always being a victim of circumstance.
The desire I think we can often have as some daughters to protect our mothers or make things "better for them",feel like we owe them, guilt and shame that we are just not doing enough for them.
There can also be this weird paradox that there is a lack of availability or emotional connection as well as demands that YOU understand her emotions or are there for her,as her listener, confident but she never gives this herself, she is NEVER safe space to talk about things or work things thorugh or talk about what is happening in your life but she expects you to somehow know what is going on for her, there is little room for your own emotions or needs.
Also when you talk about feeling sad about your mother not having access to the healing or therapy...well yeah that can also be a choice as well, and their choice, they may not have had the access when they were younger and of another generation but they have the opportunity today if they wished to to become more conscious and aware..they just choose not to and thats a painful thing to realise, that actually even when they have a chance to know btter they still choose not to.
