    Hey Just came across your tutorial
    This drive system is same as the Craftsman utility mower. They over engineered both with too many pulleys and springs. Most parts are discontinued and obsolete. Craftsman does this ten year mark they discontinue parts then call them obsolete
    I’m a small engine tech fix and flip I found one of these in excellent shape.
    I’m thinking of buying it but don’t want to waste money if I can’t find parts if I happen to need for a sale.
    Nice tutorial

      Thanks for taking the time to comment and subscribe it really helps.. your best bet for finding parts would be ebay for sure. I often find what I need there for this type of machine. I also have a local mower junkyard which comes in handy. I am actively looking for another one of these as the videos have been successful and people have other questions on them.. but no joy so far on finding another. Thankfully there are not too many parts on them to go bad or break. I donated this one to a local church after fixing it up.

    Hey my friend. Thanks for your videos.Help me with some issues on the yard bug.I just bought.
    I am having an issue with the transmission. Going to replace the cables but as of right now, i'm not getting anything forward or reverse, even when I put it in gear manually. Maybe you would be able to help me out. Thank you.

    • @MunkyWrench

      Thanks for checking out my video.. the question is are you sure it's being put into gear? If the cables are broken inside the outer casing you will think it's going into gear but it's not. There is a T shaped piece of metal on the Trans itself .. that's on the back left side.. u have to remove the wheel to get to it.. trace the cable back to find the T where the cables connect.. it's about 4 inch wide if I remember correctly.. and make sure it's moving. Once u find it you can move it by hand u will feel it click in place when u move it.. I've seen that t shape bent or full of dirt n not moving.. try that first .. if it is actually moving and engaging then it's a trans issue (very rare) but I believe those trans are NOT SERVICEABLE.. so u can try messing with it. Look for leaks but normally you gotta find one on ebay.. let me know what u find

    Munky I really appreciate your videos on the Yard Bug. On mine after I replaced the drive & trans belts my gas pedal aka variable speed pedal is very tight and will only go about half way forward. Can you give me any tips on how to adjust and fix this? Also the Video you did on how to trouble the non-starting was very helpful. I am trying to fix it so my son with Autism can ride it around the yard with me for fun.

    • @MunkyWrench
      @MunkyWrench  3 месяца назад

      Hi Travis usually if you put a new belt on and the pedal doesn't move much its a couple things to check.. 1st is belt size.. the length has to be correct for your specific mower.. there are several brands that make similar machines and the belts can vary in length from a quarter inch to 3/3 inch longer so be sure you have the right length.. the thickness is also important.. if it calls for 1/2 inch and you put on a 5/8 it actually makes it shorter because its thicker.. make sure the v side is facing the v.. make sure the belt is routed correctly, not outside of a keeper.. and make sure the spring on the tension lever is not jammed to the side or stuck somehow.. check those things and get back to me and we will try to figure out what else might be causing the problem

    I have a Craftsman yard bug 500 and it is not that much different than this one. What I need is information on how to tighten the deck belt. I can't find anything and then I found you. Are you able to help me?

    • @MunkyWrench
      @MunkyWrench  3 месяца назад

      There is not really a way to tighten the deck belt per say.. they get stretched and worn and begin to slip and be too long .. that's when you know its time to change them.. Having said that, there is an arm with a pulley on it and a spring that keeps tension , if the new belt is too long and your sure its the correct size you can check the spring.. it can be rusted, broken or stretched.. if it looks damaged in any way it won't hold the correct tension and the belt will slip and be loose.. they are cheap and easy to change with a piece of string.. Be sure you get the correct length belt.. each manufacturer has a specified size and sometimes they are half inch sizes.. so if you got a belt from a box store it might be a bit too long.. if you need more information or part numbers or diagrams just let me know I will help you in any way I can. I am proud of you for fixing it yourself and I am glad to help.. please subscribe if you haven't already it really helps.. if you need more in depth info or diagrams just email me and we can get you sorted out

      Yeah they only have tire that fit the smaller front wheels. Tires held up fine as far as I know.. I had it for months then donated it to a needy family and as far as I know tire still in good shape. As a mower tire it's great. We also use them on gokarts we build and they are pretty good

You wouldn’t happen to have one for sell or the side chute either one would be great. Thank you for your time.

      Hi and thanks so much for watching my vid and subscribing it helps a ton.. unfortunately that video was over 20 months ago and I did not do too many vids on it. those bugs are hard to find these days and i donated it to a family in need through my church.. as far as the grass catcher under the seat your best bet is Ebay.. they sell a plug that fits into the hole on the top of the deck so the mower acts as a mulcher and doesn't blow grass up into the machine under the seat. if you haven't already found a video to help I do remember the machine pretty well.. in order to get to the top side of the trans cables you remove the steering wheel and the plastic collar around the steering column and you will see the cables.. 2 of them and you need a 10mm wrench to remove them.. you then can follow the cables along the frame to the back right wheel.. if you remove that wheel you will see the cables attach to a t shaped pivot arm with a simple z bend that just goes through the hole.. no tools required.. to remove the deck you will see the front side attaches by just hanging.. I don't remember any clips.. that's how you raise and lower it.. for the back side there are 2 arms that extend from the frame to the deck and its a simple cotter pin and pin set.. remove the pins and the deck drops.. disconnect the blade engagement cable the same way and remove the belt if you need to. I am always here if you have questions.. I can always make you a video as a reaction to one I find on RUclips and print out some pages with pics if I need to. I am always willing to help the best I can and teaching kids these days is important.. hope this helped.. have a great night

    • @MunkyWrench
      @MunkyWrench  6 месяцев назад

      those parts are not being made anymore.. the trick will be to keep the part number and do a search once a week.. ebay changes all the time so sooner or later one will be available.. also you can just use something to block the hole.. usually you can get some thin sheet metal from the big box store and cut it with tin snips , bend it where needed to fit drill a few holes and rivet it on or even weld it on if you can.. and you can always cut a new hole in the side of the deck for discharge.. these little mowers were fun and useful but not a huge hit for consumers so finding parts is hard.. but modifying it yourself is perfectly fine.. @@darinelliott3026

    • @MunkyWrench
      @MunkyWrench  Год назад

      Thanks so much for commenting and subscribing it means a lotCheck the reverse shift cable and find out if it's broken.. that often happens on these bugs .. check the connection at both end.. check the connection to the steering column under the plastic cover and make sure it's working and not broken inside the cable. The lever may work but if cable is broken the other end won't move.. so non function..

    • @mustafaalbouali
      @mustafaalbouali Год назад +1

      @MunkyWrench so I traced the cable that goes to the back, and when moving the lever by the steering , it moves a lever back and fourth under the engine. It's just one lever and one cable, should there be 2?

    • @MunkyWrench
      @MunkyWrench  Год назад

      @mustafaalbouali it's been a long time but I believe there are 2 cables for shifting.. they both attach at opposite sides of the same lever at both ends.. to accurate the shift lever.. but if u can shift successfully between forward and neutral when u want. Your model could be different

      If u think it's a pulley and a belt is smoking you should remove the belt asap and run it. If noise and smoke go away then u know it's a pulley.. and u don't want to smoke or break a belt

    I could really use your help with my Yard bug, Won't start, replaced battery and solenoid, no clicking nothing. you said something about safety switches, could that be the problem?

      Yes there's several safety switches . 1 under the seat.. one on brake pedal.. I think 4 total I can't remember.. if u want to know . Get pair pliers.. rubber handles lol.. turn key on position. The 1st on position. Use the pliers to touch both terminals on the solonoid and see if motor spins.. if it does its a safety switch. U can email me to talk more or I'll do a live stream to talk to u

      Your throttle cable has an adjustment on it.. it can also be stretched if it's the original so often a new cable can do it.. plus if the drive belt is worn it will be slow.. new drive belt will be thicker n wider and grab better
