    this vid was AWESOME... totally helped me. I had some goofy freaking safety switch issue, where, it was running fine one minute. then i got off the mower (Cub Cadet XT1 Enduro 42 inch) to move something out of the way (it stops because of the seat safety switch). then got back on, and it wouldn't start. checked everything. no joy. seemed like a safety switch issue, but, good luck getting to them all. started disabling them 1 by 1, but it still wouldn't start. the couple that were left were either too confusing or hard to reach. then i found your video. bypassed the whole lot of them, and now it starts. THANK YOU !!! (I'm glad you made the mistake about the original issue and decided to bypass them all... or I wouldn't have learned how to do this.)

    As much mechanically inclined as I am, I never worked on electrical part of riders. At first I was upset because you said I don't know how much easier I can make this, because you were far away in some. But I watched diligently 4 times and with no black wires, just yellow, I did what you said. My mower now goes into gear and the blade moves. Thank you so much for all your help. If you can't get a tire to seat on the bead , give a squirt of starter fluid or carb cleaner for a few seconds into the tire ignite and tire will blow on to the bead , I work on tractors and offroad equipment for 30+ years its so much easier than ratchet straps , grease, etc. especially on wider tires

    Thanks so much for the tech tip to buy pass the safety switches. Unfortunately I threw some parts at it (new ignition switch and solenoid) before watching your video but it still would not turn over. Then I went to your video to by pass the safety switches. Did everything as you explained but still nothing. Had no 12v at the switch so went a drank a cold bottle of water and came back to it. Started inspecting the wire loom and shazam, there is a 20 amp fuse in line. Pulled it out and duh it was blown. Replaced the fuse and hit the switch and viola started right up. So if anyone is having no cranking issues, check the fuse first! Hahaha

    hey Henry. I have 2 of those craftsman mowers . I discovered as you just did there are safty switches to prevent cranking and swiches to keep you on the mower. Even if you want to trouble shoot the diagrams are very confusing. One of my mowers has a switch inside the male side of the seat switch so if you unplug it it kills the mag. Have to ut it off. Another mower to be careful of is an old yard machine sold by monkey wards. Friend gave me on with all the switches bypassed including the neutral switch on the shifter. The shifter is between your legs. If you get off with it running it is very easy to kick that shift lever. You will then have a GHOST
    RIDER . Love your vids.

    I have same rider my dad used on his farm house and blew head gasket. I installed new head. Gasket and did what you’re not supposed to do, using silicone on each side of gasket. I guess that’s been about 5-6 years ago. I have several junk mowers. So, after new clutch cable, battery, and carb cleanout I’ve mowed 3 times with it already this season. I refuse to get rid of a mower I can keep running but I have well over an acre and it grows so fast sometimes I have to mow twice a week or it gets too thick and rolls up and chugs down mower, etc.
    The only downside of those craftsman is needing a driver side wheel added to front of deck to prevent deck banging into roots and so forth. But they are amazingly good little inexpensive mowers used.

      Just got in from fixing my husqvarna, a fine Kawasaki 15 hp v twin. Was safety switch on it mounted under starter solenoid. Being a bunghole, I clipped the switch, black wire to black wire and white wire to white wire, twisted good with Klein lineman pliers, soldered, taped, bam! Cranking again. About a 20-22 year old husky parked 10 years ago from high miles. Had to tear down to bare frame to remove gas tank cracked at bottom leaking all out.
      The craftsman is not aggravating at all. It is easiest to work on. All they need to last forever is maybe head gasket, and careful deck use or mount wheel on driver front to prevent root damage. The deck has a vulnerable spot there without a roller wheel. This is often the case with lower cost riders, they scrimp on anti-scalping wheels, which are great to save your deck from roots and such. But this craftsman was abused by my dad, and myself for quite awhile now. All my riders are so worn, the hour meters if they have them, all stick or break at around 300 hours.

    This Video Saved me, however to add a few things at the Ignition switch Harness there are 2 wires that are black, 1 has a white stripe, that goes to the magneto tang and the grey connector for the magneto. The Solid black I believe goes through the interlocks.
    I used spade connectors so I can reverse this once I find the short to fix the harness the correct way

    Henry loved that tutorial and performed it on my Briggs & Straton 19.5 horse Craftsman. I have one unsolved problem that I hope you can help me with. When looking to bypass the Magneto it appears to have 3 wires coming out from under the top cover. One solo black wire and then a pair that have a coupling about 3 inches out. From the coupling to the wire loom both lines are red. above that 1 each black and red. I cut the black and jumpered it to the double black leads on the back of the ignition. Mower starts and the transmission functions, but the key does not kill the engine. Should I try the jumper attached to that other black lead ?? Thanks for those great vids .. Kent

      Take the cover off to expose the ignition coil. There should be one solo black wire to the M tab of your key switch

    Hi Henry, came across your blog and it was extremely helpful to get my engine running. Bypassed the safety switches with cutting the solenoid wire from the switch to the solenoid and replaced with a separate wire. However, now it will not move when engaging gears. Any suggestion what may be wrong. Didn’t have your luck with anything loose that a nut and bolt will fix. Hope it’s not the transmission. I have a 12 hp rear engine Murray. Thank you!

    • @MowersNBlowers
      @MowersNBlowers  2 года назад

      If it’s a hydro, make sure the trans engage lever is engaged. If it’s a manual, check belts are attached to pulleys one both ends front and back.

    • @awongutume

      @@MowersNBlowers Thanks for your speedy reply. This rear engine Murray does not have a pulley in front for a belt (or is it missing). Currently, no deck is attached, but there is a pulley from the main to connect to the single blade deck.

    awesome video, thank you! i would like to share my experience with a Husqvarna RZ4623 zero turn mower. this mower would not start it is a safety switch that is keeping my mower from starting. i checked the switches and tested each one and they are suppose to be working. every wire on these safety switches has a white wire connected to the socket. tracing most of these wires there are about three of these wires joined to the negative ground cable. The solenoid has a white wire as the trigger wire. on the ignition switch i found the S on the switch either it stands for solenoid or starter. i cut the wire from the switch leaving enough room for splicing.. i connected a direct wire from the ignition switch S to the solenoid and disconnected the white wire in the solenoid with my spliced wire from the ignition switch. The engine started and to my surprise i bypassed the safety switches on my husqvarna zero turn.
