Dude thank you so much I've been working on my mower with a 17.5hp in it for days and put a new battery and cleaned all the terminals checked the solenoid still couldn't get it running. Super slow cranking. Just finished watching your video and Immediately went out and checked my valve lash they were super loose! Put them to 4 thousands and tried it and it fired up first crank!!!!

I have a tractor with a Tecumseh 17.5 hp OHV with the same carb and it is NOT a vector carb, these are Tecumseh (Series 7) carbs which give few problems and easy to clean. The Vector carbs were used on the smaller hp Tecumseh (VLV Vector) engines on push mowers. These were not as common (Thank God) and a lot were used for the export market.
Yes, people get confused and the only similarity is the plastic bowl and the Vector carb has an extruded aluminum, machined, unfinished look to it.
Any ways a nice easy fix... simple carb adjustment and set the valve lash. Congratz on the new F150 Pickup too Henry... I like the red color and for most of us it's also the color of choice for mowers too.

I had that same one last year . Same engine . Painted a fresh coat of sunrise red and put a battery in it . Asked 550 sold 500 in a couple days.
Excellent bro...glad it started for ya. Oh well on the stator, if anyone watching has a tecumseh stator, I need one. I just did a 24hp vtwin briggs, and the valves were way off, now it run like new. Gotta love it.

Oil is new! Not changing new oil just because. I’ll let the new owner do what he wants. No one needs a fuel shutoff til next winter
i had the same problem. i thought it was a valve ajustment. still no go so i lubed the starter and that is what it was
I recommend taking a jumper cable set and connect the negative to the battery neg post, then connect the other end to a frame bolt close to the motor. Try starting now. If that fixes your problem you have a weak negative connection to the motor ( which also means the starter). Either correct a loose battery or neg frame connection. If you can’t find a loose one, go to auto zone and get a run of thick black wire and two eye connectors. Run an additional negative wire from the battery to a frame bolt. Easy fix if this is your issue. Fixed mine!

...nice DIY video Henry.....thanks for posting. If it were me, I would run a tank of gas treated with Seafoam thru that carb....just might clean it up a little and eliminate a bit of that surging.... 🙂
I think Seafoam sucks, has NEVER worked for me, not once!
Seafoam makes people feel like they are doing something. It rarely has any real benefit to poor running conditions. Good job on the valves Henry. In a case like this, valves out of spec is usually the cause.
@@mikespain8655 yeah people boast about how Seafoam fixes carbs, that’s BS, people clean carbs not a magic potion. It has done nothing for me

I just picked up a locked up push mower. What was wrong
Too much caked on grass and dirt under the deck .
My mower has got me scratching my head...start it up, it's running really fast, bent the governor spring back though it was in the factory position, didn't help, still running crazy fast. Never hit/ran over anything. Now when I start it, it starts off slow, and seems like within 30 sec of running/warming up turns to an airplane again. It's a craftsman M125, bought 2 years ago. All I could think of is maybe something internal or something with the autochoke setup on the muffler, if that sounds possible? Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
Replace the carburetor as the throttle may be stuck open. Or remove it and clean it thoroughly. Try and get the Governor back to where it was. A small adjustment can mess it up to where you can’t get it back exactly anymore

Mower and Blower, you didn't check the engine oil and engine sparks. Most machines will check those before they start the engine. You are very lucky you didn't blow up the engine.

I can not believe the price of that little rear engine rider these days. Back in 2021 I remember those little mowers use to sell for $999.99 here and now there 2 grand. Soon your going to have to sell your car just to buy a push mower.
