I have been working on my Troybuilt mower for weeks, as of today still without sucess. This is far an above the absolute BEST video on these Briggs carburetors yet. No body else has even seemed to know exactly what that solenoid is. I have removed, cleaned my carb twice now even thought it was very clean. I removed the float with that """!!** tiny damn pin, cleaned out everything as far as you can go. My mower just died halfway thru the job late last fall but i even easily drain my gas all through from the tank out of where it attaches to the carburetor. Damn MTD used rtv, or some kinda glue on the plug to the solenoid so my grey wire came out of the plug an dont wanna go back in, but ill get it. I think thanks to you my whole focus is now on that solenoid. Your info an teaching manner is top notch.
Exactly what I needed. Thank you! When I tested my solenoid I got power but no click. I removed it and found the stem that goes up and down was rusted shut. Since I was also getting tons of gas in my oil, I watched your other video as well. Found a full carburetor kit on Amazon that comes with a new solenoid for $24 that will hopefully fix my issues. If not, I'm out $24, but worth it to suss this thing out. 🤞
Great video! Thanks. My knowledge is limited and a new spark plug is always good. I probably would spray carb starter fluid in carb to see if will start. If starts pretty sure main problem is fuel/carb.
Wow, as a DIY, I would never have thought the solenoid was the problem. Thanks a lot, I replaced the solenoid and worked perfectly. Thanks again, and keep up the great work 👍

What is your opinion about cutting the tip of the fuel solenoid off to allow machine to start? I have done it in the past with no negative results that I am aware of. I always throttle down before shutting engine off.
Yes, you can cut the tip off. I run a business so that is not an option (lability reasons) and throttling down is what everyone should do but it a lot of people do not.
I watched this video because I'm wanting to bypass the clutch safety. Had a difficult time locating the darned thing on the mower. As an added note, I only have one leg. Lost a leg due to a faulty electric can opener. Now, when I go swimming...I just swim in circles. *Note: amputation was actually caused by a head on motorcycle collision when an old lady pulled into my lane...in a 1962 Chrysler.
What I’ve done to mine I took it off and grind it off screwed it back in and my lawnmower started right up saved all that money and I put a fuel shut off valve on it
I read somewhere that the power to the solenoid is routed through the seat safety switch and if you disable that switch the solenoid will not work. Is this true?

gunna check this on my 2014 Craftsman T1000 now. It was runing great, stalled out, I pushed it home, & now won't start. I checked fuel its getting to carb, & checked spark already. I will also probably set the valves too, as soon as i find feeler guages. awesone vid
Did you figure it out? Check to make sure your gas cap vent is letting air into your gas tank? Also this video may help but this is a guess. ruclips.net/video/Y4hWgv5OEYI/видео.html. Without seeing the machine to diagnose it is impossible to diagnose correctly.
I have a Craftsman lawn tractor given to me and the gas tank is under the seat and I am not getting any gas up to the carburetor. Is there a fuel pump on these?
If the gas tank is under the seat then yes you should have a fuel pump. what is the model of your machine? If it is a craftsman, there is a model number underneath the seat. It should have three numbers than a dot then more numbers. If you can get me those numbers, I can look to see what kind of motor is on your machine and try and give you pointers. I can Say if you have a twin cylinder engine and it is a Briggs & Stratton sometimes you have to make sure you hold the choke in the on position and sometimes you have to crank a very long time to get the fuel to get pulled from the gas tank. Also make sure you have a full tank of gas.
I found the fuel pump, and I got it running. It surges until you engage the blades, and then it runs great . But it's been sitting for an undetermined length of time, and maybe after a while, it will straighten up . Thank you for your help with this problem .😊
I was driving my john deere and it stopped running and wouldnt start back up but cranks and was running good. And it just stopped and wouldn't start but cranks over
Impossible to diagnose with out seeing the machine but It could as simple as a clogged fuel cap.ruclips.net/video/6nxy6K_cYJo/видео.html. Possible failed spark plug? Try a new spark plug. Ignition coil can fail, you would need a spark tester or know how to use the spark plug to check spark. Worst case the engine blew up (check compression). You also may have valve issues.
I would suggest looking up your exact one you need for the model engine you have using your model type and code on a part lookup web site. This is the OEM part from Brigss on Amazon. amzn.to/3QDXWx9
I have had problems with my Yard tractor a Kohler 24HP 7000 pro series. I have learned a lot watching your videos...I am so impressed. I am not a mechanic but I managed to change my oil filer, air filter, spark plugs, fuel pump, choke and recently the ignition coil. The tractor has had problems and will not keep running evern after all of that. It runs but when I activate the PTO... it shuts off. I need to know how to change out the carborator..... I was told it is the solenoid on the carborator. I really don't know.... but my other alternative is have someone pick it up and pay a pick up and drop off fee as well as maintenance Ive already performed. Just wondering if you have a video on changing out a carborator. PS ...Please can you tell me if you can purchase just the selonid? I have an '08 tractor with a 15.5 Briggs. Came with a Nikki carb that performed erratically. Lots of folks don't like them. Replaced it with a Walbro off an even older Murray & it runs fine. The carb in your video looks like the Walbro style. Did Briggs start using them in later models?
Thank you! info about the solenoid helped... not "as dreadful" as I expected...STILL I don't have the ability to grind down an open end wrench. (options?) Long ago...maybe before husband died I thought I saw some really thin open end --like something that was included with some OEM kit...but that is likely long since gone. Thanks - this was a great help. Ran out of gas, which caused the electronic fuel shut off to lock up. I removed the fuel shutoff and reinstalled and everything started working.
Same problem I had with my john deere. Same motor afaik, 1cyl briggs & stratton. My solenoid burned out, happened in the middle of a cut, couldn't figure it out until I looked closely at the clip going into the solenoid and noticed what looked like melted black plastic. No click coming from the solenoid. Had to order the replacement part which was #AUC11057. Like $75 bucks or something, still waiting to get it in. Pain in the ass lol. I don't know what would've caused it to overheat like that. Tractor isn't that old, about 160 hours.

Thanks my one handed friend, your clear and easy to understand, my R110 sat for a while until my health condition improved so I could replace the rack and pinion steering I dinged up going thru my gate to the backyard. I might have a stuck or bad solenoid. Thanks for the instructional video. Let you know how it turns out!
That's a good video. Had a similar problem with a Kohler V twin. I was able to take the valve out, take the end out put it back together and it works fine now.
My 19 year old Troy Bilt riding mower is on its 3rd (or 4th) carburetor, and the bad solenoid is a common problem. Actually, I have also replaced the starter solenoid several times. The cheap e.g. $16-20 carbs from, for example, China are not very durable. I recently ordered a $100 Briggs & Stratton brand new carb and hope it will last significantly longer. I appreciate your vids and admire your expertise.

Hi there I have no power going to fuel solenoid but have power everywhere else. Checked all connections and they look fine, where should I look next? Thanks! I Cranks but won't start.
You found your problem. Now you just have to find out why you don’t have power to that wire? Could be many possibilities from bad wire too bad ignition switch but to correctly diagnose it you would need a 12 V meter or test light.
@@hellapellanyc6465 Just a suggestion, if you remove the valve, cut the tip off put the valve back in. It may back fire when you shut it off. If you back off the Idle screw so when you move it to Idle it will die without back fire. Again just a suggestion. Good luck 😊
