In the abridged series Rin admits to breaking a girls leg to win a race. She also threatens and blackmails others to get her way. Yes, she half asses it but that isn't something a neutral character would be doing on the regular. Chaotic good.

I know you'll never read this but I'm pretty sure the Shin Megami Tensei games would give you and your writers a heart attack if you were to ever attempt to analyze them.
One of my favorite parts is when she uses the advanced Magecraft technique "These Hands" to beat up Medea, who has never seen mages fighting hand to hand in her life.
Which is a nod to the fact that Rin's family started as Magical Martial Artists before they were given the foundation of their gem magic.

In the VN if Shirou fail to negotiate with Rin during their chase scene, she will just knock him out and erase Shirou's memory.
So that's what was missing...two of them.
Homeboy ain't wrong.
Of the 3 routes, Rin's route seems to be the closest to a "Happy Ending" for Shiro.
On Saber's route he spends his life trying to find the way to Avalon to reunite with her and Sakura's Route is a Carnival of trauma and death. In Rin's route, he strikes a good balance between maintaining heroic ideals and not allowing himself to be destroyed in the process, and he has a supportive partner who is there to help if he goes too far.
(I didn't have the opportunity to play the original VN so I may have missed information)
You could make an argument that HF is Shirou's Happiest ending, since he gives up being a thankless hero to life with his love interest, finds out Iliya is his sister and this time she goes out on her own terms, and just overall, despite suffering the most HF Shirou might still end up okay here.
You can argue that for every route. Saber route has him spending time with the woman he loves for eternity in happiness and comfort for example

But you would be forgetting all the times, where Shirou just drops all of that for an unhealthy obssession of "I must save Sakura, i must do this to save Sakura... Saving Illya is a means to save Sakura, trusting Rin and Rider is a means to save Sakura"... Seriously all that matter for Shirou in HF is saving Sakura and everyone else is just a means to an end... And suddenly in the true ending he has a harem... Im sorry but no, that route is horribly manage, he becomes a version of Archer only that instead of justice it's all about Sakura... And the True ending is disconnected with what happens in the story, while the good ending... It's just him dying and Sakura losing her mind because Shirou died for her... Which to be honest is a more fitting ending for the machine that wants to save Sakura.
@@ultimateshadeofwar Shirou has always been obssesed, it's just that the focus of that obssession changes between saving many in the previous two routes and to the few in Heaven's Feel. Shirou's ideals of heroism aren't good for him; he can be manipulated those who would prey on his good nature and has no self-preservation. Which is why when he admits that he wants to live at the end, it's a relief. This is because he's finally acknowledging his own needs as a person rather than his title as a self-sacrificing hero which he inhereted from his father. Heaven's Feel is about Shirou, along with Rin and especially Sakura, working to free themselves from the roles given to them by their families and finding their own happiness. It's not perfect and you're welcome not to like it if you don't want to, but it does have it's merits and several people don't just like them, but love them.
Nah HF is arguably the happiest route for everyone but Saber.
It's the only route where Sakura is finally free, the sisters are reunited, Illya gets her closure, the main plot of FSN(the HGW) is solved permanently, and most importantly Shirou gets rid of his trauma and just bangs.Sakura.
Wow, it sure would be dumb if Type Moon never released the original VN in english after over 20 years and the franchise becoming as massive as it is

Should have started at Chaotic Neutral
Hold up! Rin is a Mage exceptionalist, who upholds that *all* mages are evil, and insists that she herself is a true mage. By her own admittance, Rin's starting alignment should be Neutral Evil, even if she performs almost exclusively good actions.
For me, her considering that mages are evil shows that she deserves to be in the good alignment.
Any other truly evil mage would not see anything he and other mages do as evil, merely as a necessity to advance magecraft.
D&D Alignments are different than TypeMoon alignments in that they are cosmologically determined by intent and outcome. What the individual themselves believes themselves and their actions to be are completely irrelevant in D&D canon as it is the universe itself which judges them. If Rin is both intending to and actually performing moral and just actions without a bias towards law or chaos then her alignment is definitively Neutral Good regardless of how Rin herself views it.
I dunno,Rin was kinda more Neutral-Neutral Alignment.
But saving Shirou’s life is a pure good alignment.
Yeah alignment and morality isn't self attributed. That would be like a serial killer having a good alignment just because they believe their actions are righteous.

As for the video, I get it. I get why Rin is popular. I get why people argue "Best girl" more than most people that do.
And he things she does feel like they have a genuine impact on the story.
Not bad for smut from 2006.
That said, this series still makes my brain go to sleep like it's name was "Wolf's Rain".
But I had fun with the videos this month and I enjoy hearing your breakdowns at the end cause it makes me think about the characters I write.

Around 12:30 Fun fact, that was the original intent of the visual novel, you were going to play as 2 protagonist, Shirou and Rin, and you had multiple routes and the actions of each other would affect the other's route... As you realize this is insanely complicated to write not even think about the nightmare to program this would had been... So yeah because she was design to be the second protagonist, she basically is on all the routes to some extend.
So what's going on. Are they okay? They been quiet for a few months

I mean I love Rin and I do like how she has agency but I can defenitely say that Rin's importance to the story is a massive double-edged sword as while sure she's a great character but she does tend to muscle into the other 2 heroine's stories a bit too much for my tastes.
In the Fate route she's basically the second main character and gets the 2nd most importance next to Saber
in UBW she's the main heroine and the main focus, being central to the story and conflict
And then in Heaven's feel in the Visual Novel, Rin is practically the main focus, being near close to central to the conflict of the entire route... with Shirou taking nearly half the route to get over his feelings for Rin.
Shirou starts the visual novel already crushing on Rin so the other 2 heroines have to play catch up, my buddy coined the phrase "every route is Rin's route" specifically because it's clear based on everything Rin is ultimately the main heroine of Fate/Stay Night, even more so than Saber.
I love her and love what the abridged series has done with her, but Rin as a character is defenitely a case of "why aren't you the main character if all of the plots connect back to you in some way?"
I mean it took Saber two seconds of just existing in Shirou's line of sight to "catch up" to the other two girls. Rin, who has spent the last few years of Shirou's school life being Ms Perfect for every straight guy and lesbian at their school, and Sakura, who has spent the last year not so subtly to everybody not Shirou being Shirou's wife, got done kinda dirty by Saber. Especially Sakura, say what you will, but she was the only one putting in the work before the magical death game got to be the matchmaker. In a universe where HGW 5 never happened but otherwise followed the FSN timeline up to it (so not Apocrypha, FGO, Extra, Prillya, etc...) Sakura would've been the winner of the Shirou-Bowl. Saber would've been absent, and Rin would've never acted on her feelings; especially because she'd quickly notice Sakura staking her claim and absent a compelling reason to stick her nose in her whole bag of issues with not interfering in Sakura's life would shut her down.
@dustinbragg1921 importantly while yes Saber can "catch up" to Rin in terms of importance to Shirou as a person, seeing her as a romantic interrest isn't guaranteed, his romance with Saber specifically starts with him watching her get wrecked by Berserker or Kuzuki and (at least in the Fate route) becoming too protective of her, this protective feeling can become love over the course of the game, with Shirou developing feelings for Saber over time being alone with her, otherwise he just sees her as a reliable ally and contrast to Taiga as an older woman in his life.
As for Sakura, Shirou is a bit too dense to realize he does have feelings for her because she is the little sister of his friend Shinji, as him liking Sakura is treated as a massive revelation halfway through the route, so actually it's not a guarantee Shirou would get together with Sakura, especially since her own self image issues means that she's not really staking her claim, like she dissapears out of the plot in both of the other routes once Rider leaves the story, and while in a non HGW timeline things might be different, Shirou would still be crushing on Rin and Sakura would still only be the 2nd choice, and that isn't even assuming the other ladies in Shirou's life don't swoop in out of nowhere and take him for themselves, but these hypotheticals doesn't change that Rin is still central in nearly every aspect of the story in the Visual Novels.
Heck we are forgetting that if there is no Holy Grail War 5 then that means Sakura's life would likely be short and tragic since naturally Zouken's influence on her means she'd likely die before getting up the courage to act on her feelings just by the nature of Zouken's relationship with her, with the 5th Holy Grail War's Heaven's Feel route being the only route where Zouken is addressed directly (granted UBW does hint that Gilgamesh deals with Zouken but that is never stated), so honestly Sakura has no chance of winning the Shirou-bowl even in the best scenario of following the Fate timeline but with no Holy Grail War 5...
But neither of these scenarios are here nor there in the case of Rin's over importance because it doesn't stop the fact that in the Visual Novel Rin is still central to the whole story of every route while the other 2 heroines are while important on their own routes, sidelined in favor of the other on 2 out of the 3 other routes...

From what I remember from the actual anime, I always felt like Rin WAS the main character, and whats-his-face felt like he was just along for the ride for most of it. Partly because she was very motivated and proactive, and he was neither
It’s a little different that what you usually do, but you should 100% watch Blue Eyed Samurai. It has been one of the best animated shows I’ve seen this year with a lot of character growth. I think you would really enjoy it

Around 8:16 To be fair, because Logan didn't change this, the spell that Rin uses, it's more dangerous if it doesn't make full contact with a living being then if it makes full contact with them, the spell just produces a strong Flu... So i would Argue chaotic good.
While I think I know who you want to cover next, I would be interested in eventually seeing you cover The Boys (the TV show, not Garth Ennis' portrayal of the superhero genre as the soyjak). Billy Butcher would be interesting to cover

Honestly one of the character I would love to see would be Nox the Xelor from Wakfu, While in the show it was pretty cut and dry that he is the villain, like dracula in castlevania, he is the one who sets everything in motion.
This is a good tome to mention again that Fate Extra CCC recently got its fan translation its a great if not very lewd JRPG that features three of my favorite ladies in this franchise Nero, BB and Tamamo along with a more heroic version of Gilgamesh its a fun time and everyone should check it out

Honestly with Archer being true neutral, ANY alignment would be within one step of him, so her being chaotic good would fit with your preference just as much as her being neutral good.
technically incorrect. in Pathfinder rules, as he said he prefers, adjacent alignment to true neutral is the other neutral alignments. for example, if you play a cleric of a true neutral deity, your alignment can be any of the neutral alignments, but none of the lawful/chaotic good/evil alignments. Neutral MUST be involved somewhere.
Finally best girls turn. Such a best girl she even makes two crazy goddesses best girls through influence.

Btw, you still have to spoof your language setting for lot of visual novels and their unofficial translations.
Also, he is exaggerating over the difficulty in most cases.
Oh, and the reliability of the unofficial translations have and apparently still tend to be better than the official translations in many cases (due to the official translation teams being afraid/vindictive regarding translating certain pieces or hell, censoring/cutting out entire branches out of the games)
Let us not even mentioning using 6-8 different translation softwares running at the same time to have a decent idea what an untranslated game was saying here and there.
*That* was lot of work. Seriously, you had to find certain serials just so the translation software app could read the game you were playing.
