I've watched this video a couple of times now (picking up my new Model Y tomorrow!) and I still laugh every time the steering wheel is coming towards you and gets a "hello"
From one short, middle-aged, overweight man to another, gday! I love your videos. I'm taking delivery of a Model Y end of April and have found your videos most helpful. Keep making more of these!
Thank you for mentioning that your mum may not know. Assumed knowledge I call it, we're not all techy geeks Elon. By the way the dome lights are the interior lights so why not call them that. From the UK we don't use the term hoot, we beep the horn ... Love your presentation, you're a natural.
So helpful thank you. For those who don’t know, the dome lights are the interior lights. Setting to auto makes them come on when you open the door. Also I would STRONGLY recommend using lock confirmation sound because if you are dozy like me and you leave your phone on the seat then your car is unlocked with your phone in view. Fortunately I realised before both phone and car were stolen 😂
You're VERY good at talking on camera. The way you present is excellent. And obviously the production quality is 10/10 (no surprise there 😉) ... It's only a matter of time before this channel blows up ! 🔥
@RyanCowan it's sooooo good to see your comment here. I watch videos in your channel at least once a day👌 Ryan comes No.1 and this channel No 2. You two helped me a lot with my Model Y.
I love your sense of humour . Thank you for the video. Funny that there isnt a lot of videos about first set up of car. Also. Not many people know everything. You did well.
Great info. I just ordered my model Y long range yesterday. I live in Arizona, USA. Really enjoyed your tutorial. I will come back you watch it again when I get my car.
Thanks, so glad you found it useful. Looking forward to hearing about your experience with the long range. Unfortunately we don't get the long range in Australia. Which seems odd as we have some pretty long distance we could drive with it here. 🤣
Hey Lee, Great video, mate. FYI, you can use your high beams wherever you like, as long as it's not within 200m of another car or an oncoming car with low beam lights on. In other words, don't blind anyone.
Thanks, that's good to know. I generally try not to blind folks, but the auto high beams had their moments when first using the feature.I do think it's gotten a lot better since then. Though I don't use much in suburbia as it's not really needed in those situations.
“Miracles happen” 😊 your videos always give me a chuckle or 2. Very helpful information as well. I’m 2 weeks out from picking up my blue Model Y ( 1st time EV buyer).. I’m certain that your videos will help ease the technology overload. Assuming I can open the door, I’ll check on the Hooter LOL
Glad I could help. Hope you really enjoy getting to know your new EV. This was my first too. I've found the transition pretty cool. Hope it's the same for you. ☺️
The concept of calibration is perfect. Everyone drives differently so the car learns from the way you drive and how you do stuff. That way it saves it to your profile. Same as your cellphone having only the apps you like on it and not fluffy stuff that you dont care about. Overall i would say the model y seems to be exactly the best thing that should happen to me. And yes in south africa we call it a hooter. Cause we have taxi drivers (in minibuses ) that drive like sheet.
Thank you for a great explanation to setting up the car. Picking up my MY RWD in 4 weeks and very excited, but appreciate there's a lot to learn about driving a Tesla. Going through your videos will make it that little bit easier. Thanks again from a UK watcher.
Hi, so glad you found this helpful. That's very much my intention with this channel. Hope the weather in the UK is starting to get a bit warmer. I understand it's been a bit of an unpleasant winter.
Thanks for yet another great video. What about the "easy entry" profile. Think i saw somewhere, that you can link you profile to this, so when you enter the car, its the Ease entry and once you step on the break, its your own.
Yes, that's the way it works for us. As I open the door it's in easy entry, then when I put my foot on the break, it goes into my profile and then when I got back into park, it goes back into easy entry.
Thanks Lee, waiting for my new MY, been without since April (accident). Good refresher, due to arrive second if half of November. First go round only lasted a year, fingers crossed, second go round is the charm
That really suck to be without your car because of an accident. Hope no one was hurt. Glad to hear your replacement isn't far away. Keeping fingers crossed for you it comes soon. ☺️

Hi Lee.Just a comment on the 'regionalisation'... I've been watching Ian Bailey from Scotland, and his car is actually labelled with boot, bonnet etc. Weird that ours don't. Regards, Greg.
Yeah, I think maybe if I change the language on the car or the voice assistant then it can change it. But I haven't looked at those settings for a while.
@@notacarguy_au I think mine is already English (British) or whatever, but I'll have to check. Are you coming to the TOCA coffee meet on Sunday? Regards, Greg.
Hi Lee - I watched a few of these and like your info. Our Y is coming in the next few weeks can you please share the site and the type of car mats you bought and what I should be expecting to pay. Also keen to know what home chargers people have bought and had installed. Alistair
HI Alistair, I got these tessories.com.au/product/model-y-3d-floor-mats/ and they are $159. They are ok, but I've since had Jowua reach out to me and ask if I wanted to have a look at theirs. They've also given me a discount code that I can share out which is "EVEASY". So may be worth having a look at those too. The code gives you 10% off I think. We got the Tesla Gen 3 charging point installed. I looked at the Zappi, as we have solar as well. But the Zappi was twice the price of the Tesla one. So we went with Tesla and I manually manage the charge rate of the car during the day to ensure we are only using solar. Hope that helps. ☺️ PS. I've already filmed a video about the accessories that I got for the car and am in the process of editing it now. Should be out in a week or two.
@@notacarguy_au thanks Lee I was sure I saw a video of yours about mats that also had ones for the boot. Maybe I am confused. Thanks also for the info on charging. AB
Hi Lee. We finally picked up our brand new Tesla Model Y SR in Midnight Silver this Friday. My driver profile was easy to setup and so was my daughters. My wifes profile does not appear with the proper name, just with a picture and the text "Synchronized one minute ago". She can however enter the car and use it, not just get the automatic setup when hitting the brake. Do you have an idea what to do here ? I tried removing her in the app and re-invite, but it she does not appear normally with a name and picture in the profile menu.
That does seem a bit odd. I've not experienced that or heard of others experiencing that. Do you mean her driver profile on the car or her driver profile in the Tesla App? I think those are not entirely the same thing. For example, my brother-in-law is setup as another driver in the App so he can help us with the car if we are away and need something done with it. But my wife has a profile only on the car that is sync'd to her phone. For the App, my wife and I use the same account. But have our own seperate profiles on the car system which seems to work well for adjust seats and settings depending on which one of us gets in the car. I hope that makes sense and can help. Let me know how you go.
I do cover that in a few other videos. I would think that's a bit more of an advanced thing to look at. In this video I was aiming for folks who have no experience and want to get started with the basics.
how do right hand car drivers drive anywhere else in the world? Right hand car driving is so limited to specific few countries in the world, must be so confusing going anywhere
You'd be surprised how adaptable humans are. 🤣. The few times I've driven in places that drive on the other side of the road. I've been a bit nervous about it, but actually found it quite easy. The only time I've ever had an issue is when there are no other cars around. When there are other cars, you just kinda follow the herd. ☺️ I'd say it's similar to when we tend to drive the same speed as those cars around us. If that makes sense?
I just took delivery of a model Y. I have used all Apple products for years. I have done music videos of various kinds without ever referring to instructions. Tesla controls are far away the most un-intuitive I have ever encountered with any electronic device. I have no trouble with Alexa,Nest, echo, MacBook. My garage door, my garage air conditioner, my condo have all been set up without referring to instructions. Tesla controls are the most baffling I have ever encountered, nothing seems to work the way logic would suggest. Every other product I have ever used gives you an option to save the setting. Forget modifying driver profile. It seems impossible. I’m sure I’ll get it overtime, but it seems to me. It could be so much easier and the people who delivered the car did not want to show me how things work. I tried to self driving about 10 miles away from delivery come to find out they had not even mentioned it to me or enabled it even though I paid $12,000 for it..
I'm sorry to hear you didn't have a good experience at first with your car. I guess everyone learns in different ways. I did find some things a bit confusing at first, but overall I found that it was fairly intuitive for me, but that's my experience, which certainly doesn't represent all experiences. I think you're right in that Tesla could do a much better job of communication and education for new and potential clients.
