    Jackson's Art Supplies sent me some Raven and Rigger brushes and asked me if I'd do an honest review of them. So I've used them to paint a picture and recorded the process, including my comments and thoughts on the brushes as I use them for the first time.

    Beautiful, Mr. Pitt! I do like Jackson’s and order from their store in the U.S. in fact I ordered a Rigger several weeks ago. I haven’t got a Mop brush and I’m eager to try one. I don’t stand and paint but the more I watch you the more I’m wondering if I should try it. You are so accomplished and quick it doesn’t appear you’re on your feet long. This video was loaded with good advice for the student and I throughly enjoyed it. I’m going to work on that horizon issue I have I promise ! 😀

    I just discovered your watercolor tutorials and I just love your confident, airy style. And just a shout out- you do a marvelous job painting with the right side of your brain and yet being able to use your left side to teach. I struggle with that and stop talking to students as Im painting. :)

    Mr. Pitt, Your rendering of the shipyard is totally contrary to everything I've been taught. I was drilled in values, and taught to use larger to smaller brushes to render detail. I must confess you got results, and wish to experiment with your methods. Thanks for sharing.

    Andrew, just started watching your excellent videos recently. I quite enjoy them and I always seem to learn something of value from each video. I have one question about the plastic mask that you use over the paper to create the border. Did you make it yourself, or did someone else make it for you? I am curious as to how it was made.

      Thanks for getting in touch. I made my first Perspex (4mm clear acrylic) mount type drawing board myself, but have since found several companies that will make one to a diagram using a laser cutter. There’s a lot more clear acrylic used now as shields in shops to protect staff from this wretched virus. There’s a video on my website www.andrewpitt.co.uk with more details about all my painting equipment.

    I realize this is an older tutorial (I've watched them ALL!!), but I'm wondering...when you paint skies/clouds, do you have in your mind's eye what you want it to be or are you, to some degree, putting the colors up and letting them do what they will? I really struggle w/ skies/clouds and am trying to get a better handle on how to manage that. I have watched your videos over and over to see how it's done. I'll eventually get there...I HOPE!! Thank you for ALL your marvelous videos!

      Thanks for getting in touch. I always have a vision. But I’m flexible and prepared to let the paint have a say in how things turn out. For me painting is about trying to close the gap between my vision and its execution. But have an idea of what you are aiming at otherwise you won’t know where you are heading and when you have got there. Hope this helps. It is just practice.www.andrewpitt.co.uk

    Beautiful. Thank you. There is one curious point: between the two roofs starting from the right ref one, looks like the sky following the roof. Is it intentional? Great remarks.. thank you

    • @AndrewPittArtist
      @AndrewPittArtist  2 года назад

      Frankly I don’t particularly like riggers. I prefer a slightly larger brush with a belly and good point. The only rigger I got on with has this printed on the handle: ‘’ 0 Studio synthetic S503 Jackson’s’’. This is the one I used in the video. Please visit my website for more videos etc: www.andrewpitt.co.uk Thanks for getting in touch.

      @@AndrewPittArtist Many thanks for your reply. You also use a very nice rigger-like oriental calligaraphy brush, it has quite a long fine bristle. You wouldn't rremember where you got it from would you? Thank you again for the great films. I watched Two skies and Colour Mixing yesterday. I got a lot great deal. Incidentally you use the fine point oriental brush in the Mill painting.

      @@djartfilms Thanks for getting in touch. I have to say I have ‘picked up’ the Chinese calligraphy brushes I use from lots of different places. They are fairly inexpensive and I was given a selection by a kind student from Hong Kong. If you Google Chinese calligraphy brushes, goat/wolf hair I’m sure you will be able to find one that will suit you. Most good art shops sell them. Thanks for your interest.

    Andrew what was the name of the riggers from Jackson please.

    • @AndrewPittArtist

      The riggers I was asked to review were Jackson’s Studio Synthetic, S503, Sizes 0, 2 and 4. I have to say riggers don’t seem to work for me and I’m not a fan of synthetic brushes. I still prefer a larger brush with a good point.
