Omfg thank you so much! This helped me out! I got an msi for Christmas and I started receiving problems with the sound. I was so unhappy when I couldn't listen to the games I played. I've had this problem for months, and have had to disable Windows update to keep my audio working, but windows has a mind of its own and tries its darndest to update. Today I found an answer that works! Look down in the system tray in the lower right-hand corner of and find the Speaker Icon. Click on it. Look above the Volume Control line and you will see some text with an arrow to its right. Click the arrow and pick one of the playback devices. Mine had Headphone select, which wasn't working. I tried using the ----> Speaker (High Definition Audio Device)

Hey Brian..I had a problem with my sound a while back, but I didn't do the steps you did....I used the HP Support Assistant to fox it and it worked just fine
How did you fix it with that?
thought it was my cooler then even worried it was the gpu or psu, booted with speakers off no buzzing thank the lawd, now looking for a solution and stumbled on this 👍

Great Video Brian. The only problem I have with disabling sound effects is when someone has low sound and cant get it got ho any higher there stuck in most cases i have seen. What I do to fix there problem is right click on the spear icon in the right corner next to the clock then click on open volume mixer. Then under device is the speaker left click it witch will take you in to enhancements. In enhancements I leave the tick in immediate mode. Then where the box is with all the effects take out all the tick but leaving it in equalizer making sure you have EQ highlighted blue as well once it is then go to sound effect properties you see setting there with a larger box and a littler box with 3 dots next to it click the one with the 3 dots. then the EQ will pop up sliding all the sliders to the top then it will ask you to give it a name I just call it" loud" some done click save then apply and your sound should be much louder. if you use stereo mix you may need to go and Stereo mix in recording and adjust the level if it's to loud.

Hi Brian update on my g6 notebook, i have managed to download and install IDT driver from the HP website and installed it, and its loads better....seems like the answer, when this notebook came out it had dolby on, that seemed to have vanished over the years...from Fred in Essex.

Yeah, my computer had a bug where the microphone was constantly recording and playing back my audio through the speaker. So annoying. I don't know whether it was a bug or virus. But I fixed it then with the troubleshooter.

Hi Brian, i have g6 HP Laptop and the sound is poor, i have done all above more or less except reinstall Hp driver....sound gone down abut 50% since the last windows 10 update, the sound test on the control panel is perfect, but what comes out the speakers is awful from Fred in Essex.

I have a new HP Slimline Windows 10 computer and have old Logitech speakers with 3.5mm plug that work great on my old computer and had them plugged into the new computer for about a week and they stopped working. I tried everything you showed to no avail and all there is for driver downloads is those sites that want to charge you. I plugged in some USB speakers and they work fine. I see many people online are having problems with Realtek audio on Windows 10 and I think Microsoft should fix the problem. Great job on the video though.

I tried your method, and when I brought up the playback I am showing only one set of speakers. It says Speaker/HP realtek no other available speakers. And I can see the sound on the sound bar working but I cannot get sound. I do however get sound if I use headphone jack or external speakers in the jack on the back of my Lenovo X230 . I have tried everything you suggest with no good results. I even went as far as to reset my laptop to factory settings hoping it would undo whatever I did but still no sound.

Ok I got a problem here got a Lenovo 100 15iby Lappy its playing sound out of the speakers but not through headphones Ive checked playback devices which shows only speakers no headphones. However there is an icon for digital Audio (HDMI). And bellow it says ( High definition audio device not plugged in ) even when I plug in the headphones? Ive tried everything to sort this issue and when I uninstall and begin re-installing the drivers the headphones do show in the playback devices until it starts installing the drivers then it disappears to be replaced by the above mentioned icon. When I check the properties of this it states it's installed correctly yet when I check the events tab it gives me this.
( Device HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8086&DEV_2882&SUBSYS_80860101&REV_1000\4&44ebddf&0&0201 requires further installation.)
It looks like this is the controller for the headphones but for the life of me I cant seem to sort this issue out after 3 days of trying.
Any help appreciated buddy.
The Laptop is running Windows 10 home 64bit with 4Gb of Ram.

Im recieving a popping noice from my audio and a program you recommended in on of your videos says it has something to do with it handling real-time audio and other tasks. I have tried uninstalling the drivers and getting the newest but nothing is working. Any suggestions?

For the red cross, I have that problem except when I open device manager and sound and video game controller file, it comes up with two headphones and no Realtek Speaker.

My problem after Windows 10 is that the sound gets very loud sometimes by itself without raising it, it goes to maximum but without any change in the sound bar, the sound returns to its normal volume after changing the level with +1 or -1.
This happens a lot when pausing something and playing it again, after playing it the sound gets very very loud even if the sound level is just on 1%
I tried updating the Realtek driver, uninstalling it, troubleshooting, Disabling audio enhancements but the problem is still present.
How can I solve this ?

I have an HP Compaq 8000 Elite Minitower PC running Windows 10 64 bit. My issue is that the Pc recognizes my Logitech headset when it’s plugged into the headphone jack, but when I plug into the mic/headphone jack I get no sound but the mic works and the sound still comes from the internal computer speaker. I plugged these same headset into my asus laptop with the one port mic/headphone port and I had no issues. I’ve tried looking for drivers but that wasn’t the issue because it said I had the latest. HELP.

The problem I have is when I'm playing a game or something on my laptop or watching a video the sound will just turn off and then I have to plug in my headphones and then unplug them to make the sound work again but it happens way to much it's really annoying I'll try one of these steps.

What do i do if an update took away all of the sound devices? Id uninstaled the update but now its forced me to update again and im having the problem of no sound at all. Its also interfearing with some of my apps.
I have no realtek sound menu install on my pc. Do i have to download that software? Or it's only an optional? Sorry i try to figure it out on what's the problem on my sounds. I have no idea about fixing a pc. But i try fix it by myself.
