Gonna have to watch that episode again.
I found it to be an interesting film for around the first half hour, but then something about it dropped off and lost me. Part of it may have been when the main character became invincible to death. No danger, no thrill.
have you ever watched train to busan? it's such a wonderful zombie movie, probably the best I have seen in years. the characters are actually relatable and not a former government worker with ties lol

It was just amazing that it came out as good as it did considering the trouble behind the scenes, and the differences from the book. It was big budget, and it honestly did something different with zombies having them behave as if they were part of nature. A flesh and blood virus on legs with teeth and claws. The waves of zombie hordes rushing the streets and getting gunned down is still intense to this day. I enjoyed it even though finding the lack of gore damn near disrespectful to the zombie genre lol.
They found camouflage not quite a cure. Still have a world of zombies lol and a sequel should be a close adaptation of the book. More of s reboot or something
Also 28 days later had no point for a sequel... and they made it. Or a "World War Z - The beinning"... or "Episode 1"... or "Chapter 1", after Brad Pitt died in the 3rd part and returned once with the "Resurrection" part.
Yeah, WTF happened to this movie? I was hoping it would be good. I thought it was super generic and uninspired. It was like War of the World but with running zombies, which was not a new trope.
I really don't like this movie, and I'm lowkey angry the book wasn't the plot. It was practically a Brad Pitt vehicle like Tom Cruise did to the Mummy. The zombies were PG-13 watered down generic runners ripped off from 28 Days and Dawn of the Dead, instead of the Romero-style zombies mixed with Return of the Living Dead, where they rose from the ground, the ocean, and consumed in slow to moderate swarms. None of the chilling accounts in the book shone, but instead, we got slapped with cartoonish CGI. They might have cherry-picked references and easter eggs but why even bother. This movie was packaged for teenage girls who would brag, "I like scary movies! I saw World War Z! Date me."
The book is really good and nothing at all like the movie. Not structured like typical novel and is very creative story that isn’t what you would expect.
They messed up by NONE OF THE BOOK BEING IN THE MOVIE. Mystery solved. Also, just release Chinese movie cuts for China, stop ruining all the films you make.
Honestly, i think "Contagion" is a better representation of COVID-19 pandemic. But i did really like World War Z. not perfect, but a pretty good movie, IMO.
Brad Pitt happened to it. He took a wonderful book, cast himself as the protagonist/narrator (who didn't participate in ANY of the events-he was chronicling events that happened 10 years earlier) and changed, oh, everything. The zombies were slow, not fast. They moaned, not screeched. And people didn't turn in seconds after being bitten-they died and reanimated hours later. And so many interesting side stories were missed-the Chinese nuclear missile sub was the best of the lot. But if you didn't read the book you'll never know.
The only thing they got from the book is Israel and Jurgen Warmbrunn. (Never read the book. Did research on it.) That's it. The rest was just made up. Now the game, though. It's more faithful to the book.

People overrrated this movie. It's not even that good as a whole. It's mediocre It's boring, safe, PG-13 and very very corporate. And my god, the amount of cliches and tropes in this movie...
WWZ is my favorite book. It's really so damn good. Smart and comprehensive and a downright fascinating read. This movie is complete trash that has nothing at all to do with the book. They just used the title.
While far from being a masterpiece, I really enjoyed world war z. It had some very astounding scenes, and I liked how the focus was on CURING it. In all zombie movies, nobody freaking cares about curing it. It's always about surviving. About time to see someone TRYING TO DO SOMETHING over it. The interpretations were amazing too, even the kids were really... well. They were ok, that's more than you usually can expect from children.
They should have just made a tv-series and followed the book more; have a reporter traveling the post pandemic world interviewing people in different countries and hearing their experiences during the war. Every episode could feature a new cast, location and they would all stand alone from each other. The book has some seriously varied stories, settings and characters - there is so much content to draw from and expand on, this movie barely managed to depict 5% of the overall book experience.
I spoke with Max Brooks at a London Comic Con after the film was released. He said "when i went to the premiere i kept thinking "please don't ruin my book, please don't ruin my book." But when i saw the movie i realised they didn't ruin my book at all. They flat out fucking ignored it!" A sentiment he also shared on stage in a Q&A about an hour later in almost the exact same wording. He also said the only reason he liked the casting of Brad Pitt in the lead is because in the book, the lead was himself. He said "Incase you hadn't noticed, i don't look like Brad Pitt. I look like Jon Cryer."
The scene where the young doctor talked about ‘bread crumbs’, the search for ‘patient zero’ in Korean Peninsula, the Mosad agent’s insight into the danger of echo chamber, the question about how realities concerning human relationships are only as good as the memory, how belief systems and ideals changed by the end of the film were some of the most intriguing features of World War Z.
Brooks' commentary on the inability of governments to deal with a pandemic proved to be all too accurate. I really enjoyed the book, particularly humanity's fightback.
If only they had just stuck to the damn novel, this could have been legendary. It should never have been a feature, but rather a 12 hour mini-series on HBO or Netflix. The zombies should have remained the regular zombie trope, and it should have just been the UN investigator going around the globe and having the scenes shown in flashbacks. They blew it.
@Gelatin Skeleton that's what we have been talking about Dune. . . . . . .Just appreciate this film didn't come out like Justice League or Suicide Squad.
The brilliant part about the zombies in the book was their slow relentlessness. When winter came they froze solid and were stuck until spring came and they thawed up to just continue. Or if they fell into the sea they crawled on the seabed until they reached shore. Who in their right mind reads this and decides that they should make a movie where the defining characteristic of the zombies is their amazing speed?
@@JakeSchwepker If they had stuck to the interview format, I'm thinking it could have been harrowing with the interviewee narrating over events unfolding.
World War Z didn’t need a big star. Tell the story just like in the book: by showing the short story experiences of various people that when viewed as a whole it would tell the full story. It would be even better if it used relatively unknown actors. This movie was WWZ in name only. When I first read the book, I was surprised to find out Max was Mel’s son. They ruined this movie just like they did with I Am Legend. Read the book to understand the impact (and irony) of the title.
It became a Pitt vanity project when he got involved, and it is very apparent when you watch it. I don't blame all of the problems of this sh&tshow on Pitt, but if you watch the film, it is very true that it is not character-driven - more let's see Pitt save the world. This isn't Fast and the Furious. He's not the Rock. We can forgive those silly things in a F&F but not in this kind of film. Bleh!

I HATE that part! Where did that truck come from?? It's absolutely silent as it plows through 4 lanes of gridlocked traffic, then comes roaring up next to Brad Pitt's car. Worst example of a lack of object permanence in film. And I will never let it go.
Same thing happened to Brett Leonard's Lawnmower Man. Thank God for the director's cut cause it allows the story to grow. Say what you want about that film, it was so incredibly done for someone my age at the theater. As someone who works in production, I'm interested to know where they got the information about the receipts, because the way they're reporting it doesn't make sense. Hypothetically, if I spent $1000 on extras, but lost all the payment receipts, I wouldn't magically be over budget. That money was already in the budget for the extras. Accounting is going to chew me out and I might have to go to extreme measures to get documentation of where that money went, but I wouldn't be over budget 🤔

This story needs to be adapted into an anthology TV show or mini series that focuses on the characters who experience world war Z. Each episode or arc could focus on the characters struggle or growth. You could even add some new stories to the mix to provide new perspectives as well. Think of it like a show akin to Star Wars the Clone Wars. You can flesh out some characters across the series and some can be one off shorts. I could see someone making several seasons out of it if done properly, showing the progression of events. However, you certainly shouldn’t make this a movie that has nothing to do with WWZ. I don’t even think several movies would work because WWZ is about having a diverse cast of fleshed out characters across different locations, not Brad Pitt going across them all. What a huge mistake that was. Here’s to hoping that we finally get a faithful adaptation someday that does this great story justice.

The only thing keeping this from being a Syfy channel original is Brad Pitt's involvement. The growing piles of zombies were very "Sharknado." I think South Park roasted this movie perfectly. Gonna have to watch that episode again.
DAFTBONCHKOOPA the book had laughable moments idk what you mean😂.
Fear the walking dead have this arc and it kinda suck.

World War Z needs to be a HBO or FX-type series more closely aligned with the actual book.

I was so disappointed it had nothing to do with the book.
I remember at one point they were talking up the Battle of Yonkers, at least. Which of course never happened
@Vincent The Keeper
RE: "I was so disappointed it had nothing to do with the book."
I wasn't. As soon as I first heard that a World War Z movie was "in development," I KNEW that Hollywood was going to mess it up. Why? Because that's what they do!
They found the cure...no point for sequels
virus mutation could be a excuse for a sequal
They found camouflage not quite a cure. Still have a world of zombies lol and a sequel should be a close adaptation of the book. More of s reboot or something
You know nothing of film
The cure isnt really a cure. To inject "psuedo" illness might just allow new problems/mutations.
Dude this movie is great
Jarrod Edson, I guess it was great to you
@@jarrodedson5441 If it was great this video wouldn't exist. I'm glad you're proud of your terrible taste in film though.
The running zombies make this movie so much better I don't want no lame ass walking zombies
Try the unabridged audio book. It is even better as different "readers" tell their stories. Mark Hamill relates the battle of Yonkers.
Cry me a river, who gives a shit the movie is absolutely amazing 😊 The reason it made so well it’s because it’s awesome 👏
They messed up by NONE OF THE BOOK BEING IN THE MOVIE.
Mystery solved.
Also, just release Chinese movie cuts for China, stop ruining all the films you make.
It could have been a really great fake documentary.
Fuck China, the rest of the world wants zombie, ghost and other supernatural movies... not our damn problem China is afraid of zombies.
Honestly, i think "Contagion" is a better representation of COVID-19 pandemic.
But i did really like World War Z. not perfect, but a pretty good movie, IMO.
sure, but from memory 'Contagion' lacks zombies, Covid-19 seems to be bringing out all the Main Stream Media eating brain-dead zombies.

@@RoverIAC ah fair enough. :)
@@RoverIAC yeah why is that why is covid-19 brining our all mainstream zombie film's and shows?
"Carriers" is a darker, more thoughtful representation than "Contagion," I think. Although I do prefer "Contagion" to "Outbreak."
But if you didn't read the book you'll never know.
ahhaahhaah so true... basically they could have picked one random story from the book, articulate it more and it would have been better
Brad pitt actually wanted the movie to follow the book more closely but was out manuvered and forced to make what we got. Fucking Hollywood.
The only thing they got from the book is Israel and Jurgen Warmbrunn. (Never read the book. Did research on it.) That's it. The rest was just made up. Now the game, though. It's more faithful to the book.
Bullshit, Brad wasn't the gulity party here.
@@princekiro1596 I mean, they took the wall of Israel. In the books don't full under the zombies, but they let the Palestinian go inside, wich ends in a civil war between ultra orthodox and the Israeli army
I was so excited for this movie after the book and the zombie survival guide. The movie botched what made the book so good, should have been an animated miniseries. Brad Pitt should stick to the supporting characters that he crushes every time.

RE: "I was so excited for this movie after the book and the zombie survival guide."
When I first heard that the movie World War Z was "in development," I KNEW that Hollywood would mess it up - just as they had done with Starship Troopers. And I was absolutely right!
Sad, sad movie. Not in a "tear-jerker" way, more like a "jerking around a great author and fans of his work" way. One of the biggest cinema disappointments ever.
The movie where I decided never to watch a movie w Brad Pitt again. He obviously did this movie for a money grab. Disgusting.
People overrrated this movie. It's not even that good as a whole. It's mediocre
It's boring, safe, PG-13 and very very corporate.
And my god, the amount of cliches and tropes in this movie...
WWZ is my favorite book. It's really so damn good. Smart and comprehensive and a downright fascinating read.
This movie is complete trash that has nothing at all to do with the book. They just used the title.
it has nothing to do with the book, but it is still good if they adapted the book it would fail terribly.
The full cast audiobook is pretty fricken awesome too. But yeah, one of the best Zombie apocalypse novels of all time, arguably the best.
They tried. There is no cure. The disease is 100% fatal, even in the smallest amounts.
they paid 1 million for the name of the book, not the book itself X)
@Shoedi .L yeah no shite
Lol too bad a movie named, "World War Z" wasnt a serious character study and became an action movie... i think they shouldve kept the original ending
Absolutely would have been better than the ridiculous Disney ending they gave it
@@Andrew-zq3ip i know right why didn't we get the original ending
Except the origin was in China, not Korea.
Brooks' commentary on the inability of governments to deal with a pandemic proved to be all too accurate. I really enjoyed the book, particularly humanity's fightback.
I think my biggest disappointment is how much money they made ignoring the source material.
Pretty much what I said when I met Max again at NYCC! But god knows it was not his fault at ALL.
Brad Pitt and many others shit all over this book. They ruined what could have been the greatest zombie film ever.

*Amazing Episode, keep it coming guys*
The brilliant part about the zombies in the book was their slow relentlessness. When winter came they froze solid and were stuck until spring came and they thawed up to just continue. Or if they fell into the sea they crawled on the seabed until they reached shore.
Who in their right mind reads this and decides that they should make a movie where the defining characteristic of the zombies is their amazing speed?
It doesn’t really make for a good visual story

Bleh!
@Poppy Kneegrow LOL Having a hard time of late. It's COVID time. I am pretty much fired up about everything lately. Don't even get me started with my Steelers, so I am focusing on movies right now - thought they would calm me down. NOT. hehe

I especially like the part where that yelling cop got hit by the big truck, couldn’t stop😂😂😂
I HATE that part! Where did that truck come from?? It's absolutely silent as it plows through 4 lanes of gridlocked traffic, then comes roaring up next to Brad Pitt's car.
Worst example of a lack of object permanence in film. And I will never let it go.
